I have spots I fish where it's on fire one morning and I'm hooking into smallmouth topwater every few casts. Then I go back the following week and the water levels have changed from rain, temps different. I'll get nothing. Sometimes it's just right place, right time.

For real. Even on the magical stocked private ponds he fishes on, even Jimmy Houston says he gets skunked. If the fish aren't there or they aren't hungry or being too lazy to react to trigger presentations, you're not catching em.

I'm kind of surprised you're the first one that really mentioned it, while I was editing the audio I was expecting I'd get a ton of complaints about the traffic noise. I prefer the quieter spots myself but I've been striking out at a lot of those lately. It was a harsh winter and a lot of smaller lakes experienced winterkill. I had success finding some bass at one out of a half dozen spots I tried last week at a quiet little spot.

Just found your channel after catching my PD pike. I kayak fish and have bass and walleye nailed down pretty good. But pike always skunk me. So I tried a Chatterbait like yours except chartreuse. Immediately caught 3 'hammer-handle' ones, perfect for pickling. Heading in, I jigged it off the bottom just messing around and hooked into a 38" TANK. Hook popped out the second it was landed. That monster got carefully revived and released. I'm sold on using a Chatterbait for pike.

My nephew and I were out fishing with some chatter baits over the past weekend going for bass, well our day wasn't going the best so my nephew decided to start jigging the chatter bait just out desperation to catch something, well he did catch something and it was a small pike. It was the end of the day so we weren't able to get much effort on this technique. I get home and this video shows up in my feed, go figure 😂. We are definitely going to start jigging the chatter baits now where we know there are pike.

Other than bluegill, I've only caught one fish so far this spring and it was a nice pike on a tan chatterbait with a craw trailer; RIGHT before the last thaw, only about 20 feet of water was open around the bank, and I was able to sight fish him after he followed it in. Same deal, i was gently popping it like a jig.

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but you have a midwestern, Bob Ross kind of voice. Very soothing, and when appropriate, with a mild excitement.

Awesome video Matt 👍 that's a good spot I have a couple spots like that where if you can fire them up it's non stop action. That's what I love about pike even if they miss it and feel the hook they will come back for it cause they're so aggressive. Probably one of the most under rated fish in America.

Extra likes for this video because it’s nice knowing even the GOAT gets skunked on occasion.
