My mom loved her and took me to many concerts when I was just a kid…fostered a lifelong love of her, know pretty much every word to every song she sang ❤
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "Blue Bayou", "Long Long Time", "You're No Good", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. Linda also collaborated with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris on a few "Trio" albums.
With Ronstadt it's not just about singing, it;s about interpretation and that's where many of the vocalist divas with high level operatic type skills miss the entire point of singing. it's about the song, the lyrical content and emotion, not the singer.
Oh my....Linda Ronstadt. One of the best voices ever, just that. Her early song "Long, Long Time" and mid-70s tune "When Will I Be Loved" are faves of mine and I unreservedly recommend them, but just point and click with this artist: she's just that good.
Long, Long Time is such a showcase song for her! The emotional vocals are just fabulous. You MUST react to this song, if you like Linda, you'll love this.
Congratulations, you’ve just discovered the finest female vocalist of the 70s (tied with Karen carpenter), and one of the most phenomenal female voices of the last 60 years. Strong, clear, full, pure and powerful voice. Her and Karen are on the same tier together. She did so many styles and had success in all of them, including Motown, 30s old standards, operetta, Latin/mariachi, early 80s New wave, rock, pop, folk, country, etc. She has a form of Parkinson’s disease now and can no longer sing whatsoever, but her musical and recording legacy is amazing .
I would place Karen & Linda in the same tier, too. Both sang with their souls. I would love to see what Linda could do as a mentor or producer for the next generation.
Thanks for that summary. I already knew all of it but it’s nice to know that others appreciate her staggering talent. I could listen to her voice around the clock. Good luck with your channel. 🌺✌️
You have struck gold!!!! She is one of the greatest voices we’ve ever heard, and absolutely positively the most versatile voice in history. She has done Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, the Eagles and she’s done light opera, big band, and traditional Mexican mariachi music.
She is one of the GOATs. Her Trio albums with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton are epic. That you don;t know her is astounding. She was one of the founders of the LA country rock scene.
Without question one of the best voices in music. Dolly Parton said of her friend, “Linda could sing ANYTHING.” Do yourself a favor and look at her “What’s New” era. SPECTACULAR.
It amazes me when I see someone hear Linda for the first time! She's been a favorite of mine since Different Drum & Bicycle Song in 1968. Saw her open up for Jackson Browne in 1971 at a McGovern fundraiser. That Mad Love album is a fantastic showcase of her range and talent deep into her career (doing fresh Elvis Costello songs! What balls...).
Linda did a lot of covers. You should definitely do Blue Bayou, Poor Poor Pitiful Me, You're No Good. She also did some mariachi, so you should find some of that too.
"When Will I Be Loved" "You're No Good" "Heat Wave" are some radio-friendly songs that catapulted her to stardom in the mid-seventies when she had a killer band with Andrew Gold. The studio version of "You're No Good" is still a show-stopper.
You nailed it. She was so powerful. Glen Frye and Don Henley started out in her band, and then left to form The Eagles. This is an Eagles song. She sung it differently, and they adopted her version because it was so much better.
Her voice is amazing. Definitely check out some of her Spanish-language mariachi songs from the album "Canciones de mi Padre", especially "La Cigarra", "La Charreada", and "Hay Unos Ojos" among others. Her voice soars and shines with passion on that album. There are some phenomenal YT videos of her performing those songs live on stage w/ mariachis...highly recommend those versions!
Ya need to do Blue Bayou. You can really hear just how powerful her voice is while also being soft and tender. She's one of a kind. I grew up so spoiled with the 70's music I listened to and I was just a kid. Blue Bayou might be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and Linda's voice was perfect on it.
Linda has my favorite voice of all-time. Her ability to evoke the emotion of a lyric is unmatched by anyone for me. Suggestions by genre (her biggest chart hit in the genre is listed in parentheses): Ballad - *Long, Long Time* (Blue Bayou); Rock - *Poor Poor Pitiful Me* (You're No Good); Country - *'Willin* (Tracks of My Tears). Best to experience her Latin music via one of her live Mariachi performances - "La Cigarra" or "La Chareada" are both astounding.
As you can tell, Linda's music and life is a huge rabbit hole you can go down. I highly recommend watching The Sound of My Voice, a documentary about her extraordiary career. She is still with us, but sadly her voice has been silenced by a condition very similar to Parkinson's.
A rabbit hole that is huge and very deserving of a trip down all the branches of diverse style you can think of. I love her Disney-esque duets . . . . her American Song Book Classics with Nelson Riddle, her country trio with Emmy Lou and Dolly . . . and the 'Canciones de Mi Padre' latin collection. She performs any and all with expertise as though they were her only genre.
I have listened to Linda for most of my life. I was in junior high when her hit “Different Drum” (recorded with the Stone Pony) came out. She went on to a brilliant solo career. Her voice puts her in the top echelon of female singers of the 1970s (and thereafter), along with Karen Carpenter, Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell. Quick note: when I was in college, I briefly played with a coffee-house combo that called itself Rhonda Linstadt.
She has allot of hits. BUT, you say you’d like to hear more of her lower register and a longer song. Her outstanding album, Hasten Down the Wind is top notch, start to finish. But a fairly deep cut, Down So Low, is a gorgeous soul track with gospel choir backup that showcases her lower register, her vocal agility, and her explosive power
She's my hero. She could sing anything, Rock, Country, Opera, Musicals, Pop, Mariachi, Big Band. A true gift to the world. Lucky enough to have seen a her several times.
Quite simply the most versatile vocalist this country ever produced. She was one of the first women to headline and carry a tour by herself, and she was the first woman in rock to sell out stadiums. I think starting around 1974, she had five consecutive platinum albums then left it to go do operetta on Broadway. She also put out two best-selling albums of mariachi and Latin music and a couple of albums with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra doing old standards. Sadly, in the late '90s, she developed an affliction like MS, and her vocal cords are practically paralyzed and she doesn't sing anymore.
She has a ton of terrific songs! To appreciate them (and her career), I'd start towards the beginning: "Different Drum", "Long, Long Time", "You're No Good". Three different styles here, happily!
Proud of you, Salvo.... You're reaching back to some of the best generation of music history. Original artists, pouring out their own soul in their own works. Sound so unique, because it's them.
One of the best voices ever…..period. No gimmicks, no staging, no costumes or dancing. Just Linda and a microphone with her powerful lungs and vocal cords. I thought you had already reacted to her…but if not…PLEASE listen to her biggest hit (and my personal favorite) “Blue Bayou” next! You won’t be sorry and it will go the top of every playlist you have! The 70’s had some of the best female vocalists: Linda, Carly Simon and Carol King…..and those who were taken from us too soon: Janis Joplin, Karen Carpenter and Mama Cass Elliot…..more worlds to explore. Great reaction. Thank you. Lovin’ your journey of the “Best of the 70’s” artists!
Dude, you don’t realize who you just stumbled upon!…lol one of the greatest female voices of all time! Soooo many hits, but check out “you’re no good”, “blue bayou” and “long long time”. She didn’t show the range she’s capable of in this one so hold on to your seat!…lol
I was hoping you would get to listening to Linda Ronstadt! She was the Queen of everything! Her voice is just amazing. She can sing anything. She sang country, rock and roll, a stellar collection of three albums with Nelson Riddle where she covered big band standards, a coloratura soprano turn in Pirates of Penzance, an historic album of Spanish language standards…it goes on and on. She sold out huge arenas and she was the boss at a time when women generally were not in charge of their careers. She was instrumental in the forming of The Eagles (several were her band members). She can sing soft and sweet but she has a powerhouse voice and watch out when she lets it rip (and her growls are beyond great). BLUE BAYOU is certainly one to check out, JUST ONE LOOK is a good song showing range, WHEN WILL I BE LOVED, there are just so many. Most of her songs seem to be recorded for air play so you don’t get really long tracks unfortunately. One of my all-time favorites is the lesser known WHEN I GROW TOO OLD TO DREAM from Living in the USA. Just a beautiful song that always brings a tear to my eye. Her cover of HEAT WAVE is terrific! If you want her theater/movie turn, look at POOR WANDERING ONE from Pirates of PENZANCE. She’s so funny and her voice is like nothing you’ve ever heard her do. For her big band turns, check out WHAT’S NEW or IT NEVER ENTERED MY MIND. Linda is truly the GOAT.
Please respond to La Charreada by Linda Ronstadt and Mariachi Vargas. It is an homage to her heritage and really shows her vocal abilities. A gem that doesn't get enough love, in my opinion.
There used to be a cut of her doing "Desperado" live with The Eagles. It has unfortunately been taken down from UA-cam. It was an amazing display of talent, from the song writer, the musicians, and the singer.
Honestly one of the purest, most powerful and engaging singing voices I have ever heard. I would listen to her sing the ABC's and likely put it on repeat.
Linda was awesome! She bucked the system and went her own way… and the fans followed her. Keep listening and you really haven’t heard her let lose yet.
Linda was always a fantastic singer, but in her later years as she branched into all forms of music she became one of the absolute greats. Just a thing to note, she wanted to make a Latin album, her label said it would destroy her career.....it became the best selling Latin music album in American history,. She truly walked to beat of her own drum. Love Linda.
There have been and still are some great female vocalists, but there’s only one Linda. The others are fantastic in their own genres. Linda could and did sing all across the board. Her voice had awesome power, but she could softly make you cry. I haven’t come across another who had her range. She’s absolutely the very best.
Linda Ronstadt is a legend. Her voice is amazing!! She can sing rock and so much more. For a real treat, you should check out ANY song from her album What's New," which was her renditions of timeless classics from "The Great American Songbook" like "Someone to Watch Over Me," "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry," and "I've Got a Crush On You" all backed by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Even the gorgeous cover photo of her on that album is a beautiful throwback to that era of romantic, sensual music with great lyrics.
Her catalog is vast and varied so there are many directions to go in exploring. If you are looking for something in a lower register the song "Down So Low" is a good and aptly named choice. A spotlight for her upper register is "Poor Wandering One" from her time performing in the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta "The Pirates of Penzance" on Broadway. She's ventured into so many genres-folk, country, mariachi, classic popular music from the Great American Songbook, R&B, jazz and on and on. Anything she sang is worth listening to but a few suggestions to start-"I'm a Fool to Want You" (classic pop), "Tumbling Dice" (rock), La Charreda (mariachi), The Sweetest Gift (sung with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris when they recorded the album Trio), and "Long, Long Time" (country).
Finest female vocalist of the last 50 years, also the most beautiful woman singer possibly ever. Amazing so many haven't even heard of her. I talked recently to a young bartender who never heard of the Eagles either.
You should absolutely watch the huge documentary about her life and music career that has been out for a few years now called “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice”
Linda's voice was astonishingly powerful...........she could be so sweet and imploring and she could be incredibly powerful. Girls wanted to be her, and the boys wanted to know her.
My personal favorite is a a remake of the Rolling Stone song "Tumbling Dice" in the movie FM. It's saucy, sassy and sexy rock 'n roll by Linda at her best. She also featured the song in her 1977 Atlanta concert.
Every single song Linda sings, every single note Linda sings is superb. You should check out her first big hit , with the Stone Ponies Different Drum. One of my other favorites is Long Long Time, and another is High Muddy Water. She'll pin your ears back on that one. I also love Silver Threads and Golden Needles. 👍
You should see some of her live performances. See her perform onstage, and you will fall in love with her. On this song, youtube has a live recording that she made with the Eagles
The Eagles were her band before the formed. She encouraged them to form their own band. "Long,, Long Time, " You're no good, Blue Bayou, Different Drum.
You can't go wrong with any of her songs. My favorite female singer and I must say I had a major crush on her back in the day. You;re No Good, Tracks of my Tears, When Will I be Loved, on and on. She also was involved in collaborations with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris (Trio).
Prisoner In Disguise. Written by J.D. Souther, he sings on this incredible song with Linda and the harmony is some of the best I've heard. Listen to the studio version from the album by the same name. Poor, Poor Pitiful Me, written by Warren Zevon is another gem that she covered. Enjoy, and thanks for your reaction!

I saw her live in concert at one of her classical concerts. Was fantastic!
The rabbit hole is kind of endless with her.
The most beautiful rich toned voice in the universe. Linda Ronstadt forever.
Linda was awesome! She bucked the system and went her own way… and the fans followed her. Keep listening and you really haven’t heard her let lose yet.
Awesome…great selection…❤
Favorite Linda Ronstadt songs are "Long Long Time", "Different Drum" (written by Monkee's Mike Nesmith), and "Tumbling Dice" (Rolling Stones cover).
She was a true rock star. She was the first female artist to sell out arenas.
Linda is the real deal. She's a treasure. 😊
I got to see her in '76 or '77 and yeah, she just stood there and sang. That's all she needed to do.
This was the ending song for many late '70's concerts. Such a powerful finale to her concerts.
She’s the BEST!
Linda Ronstadt is a true gem!
Haven't heard this artist before......
She's the first woman to fill stadiums. She's simply the best voice of the last century. Where have you been?
You should absolutely watch the huge documentary about her life and music career that has been out for a few years now called “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice”
Linda is an American treasure. Please check out some of her live performances. I recommend “Down So Low”. Nice reaction 🌺✌️
Blue Bayou...my favorite Linda R song!
I love her rendition of Tracks of My Tears
Heard her sing this for the first time in ‘72. I was sitting about 15 feet from her. Never gonna forget that. Saw her live 3 times.
of all the lyrics written by frey and henley, these may be the most beautiful.
Listen to her do this live with just a piano..she sounds the same..incredible.
“There are only three great female singers, Linda Ronstadt, Barbra Streisand, and Connie Smith. The rest of us are just pretending.” - Dolly Parton
Salvo, if you want to hear the full range of Linda, please try "Blue Bayou." She can sing the phone book.
"Calm and collected..." 😆😆 Hope you listen to more of her songs!
