"Blue Bayou" is a song written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson. It was originally sung and recorded by Orbison, who had an international hit with his version in 1963.
Thanks for the reaction to this gifted vocalist! Linda was the most popular female singer of her time, able to sing rock, country rock, pop, Spanish, and opera. She can no longer sing due to illness. There are many, many more songs worth reacting to -- "Long Long Time', 'You're No Good', 'Love Has No Pride', 'Different Drum', 'The Tracks Of My Tears', 'Hurt So Bad', and really, many more. I saw her in concert long ago and it remains the best concert I have ever attended. She opened for Jackson Browne. They were taking turns opening for one another on their tour and it was her night to open. When she started to introduce Jackson Browne to come on out no one wanted her to leave. Of course, he was brilliant as well.
Yep. Saw her opening for Neil Young at an arena concert in the early 70s, and the crowd had the same reaction - just didn't want to let her go. Young was noticeably grumpy when he finally took the stage, but maybe he was always that way...
Linda is of Mexican American heritage. Not only are her "English" songs great, but she trained her voice to sing with Mariachi bands. When she belts it out in Spanish, her voice is equally if not more so impressive and powerful.
Didn't " train" to sing Mexican songs. Being born and raised in Tucson she was immersed in mariachi music. Her father was a singer. She was singing Mexican songs since she was a small child.
'Long Long Time" is her heartbreak song that really packs the emotion about being rejected by her love, but is really an oxymoron as Linda is just as beautiful as Samantha and ALL men were in love with her! As Willie Nelson said; There are 2 types of men, those who are in love with Linda and those who do not yet know of her.
The greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation. Great singing isn't always defined by how loud you sing. Sometimes, quiet and gentle is what is needed.
And by the way Glenn Frey and Don Henley of Eagles, were part of her touring band. She had a major part along with her boyfriend at the time JD Souther of helping the Eagles actually forming their band.
I went to a concert where she and Emmylou Harris traded songs throughout the show. After Ronstadt did this one, and hit that long note at the end, Emmylou waited for the cheering to go down, looked out at the crowd and said "Imagine having to follow that every night."
@@MegaAtomium Of course she got it . Emmy Lou worked with Gram Parsons and so many others . She isn't famous for who she knew ... she is famous because of what she knew ....
I don't know any guy who was alive in the 70s and 80s who wasn't in love with Linda Ronstadt. She could sing the phone book and make it bewitching. Just to see how talented and diverse she was, you should check out her live version of La Charreada. Once you start tuning in to Linda Ronstadt, you'll never want to tune out. That's a promise.
If you're going to follow the Linda Ronstadt thread, you should go next to the live version of her rendition of "Desperado"... impeccable... When Glen Frey of the Eagles heard her version of Desperado he told her it was her song from that point on... If I remember my history correctly, Glen Frey started as a vocalist for Linda Ronstadt and left to form the Eagles... my brain can be fuzzy sometimes, but I think that's how it went and that's why you'll hear them performing each other's songs....
This is only scratching the surface of Linda's songbook. She sang pop, rock, country, opera, mariachi, easy listening, - check out 'Long, Long Time', 'I Never Will Marry' with Johnny Cash, her Nelson Riddle songs like 'What's New', her Mexican performances like 'La Charreada', Gilbert & Sullivan's 'Poor Wandering One'.. the list is endless, and you will not be disappointed with any of them.
Linda was my first album cover crush, and then hearing her voice fell more in love with her. Singing country, pop, rock, folk, and even opera, she had one of the most beautiful and versatile voices ever. She started out with a group Stone Ponys with her first hit "Different Drum" that was written by Mike Nesmith of the Monkees. After going out on her own and being one of the top artists of the 70's, some of her back-up band members asked to go out on their own and asked her permission. She gave it and formed a little old band called the Eagles.
She has a huge range, not just chromatically, but in the types of music she masters. She can sing country, Tejano, blues, rock, you name it. There is a good biography film about her you guys would probably like to watch.
Linda is the greatest American female singer of all. She has the range and can sing any type of genre including opera, ballads, rock, folk, Tejano, she does it all. Today’s singers don’t compare.
Linda was part of a trio with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris for a while and they were the darlings of country music. She went on to do Mexican/Spanish classic for a while, then American classics from the 30's and 40's for a while, she even dipped into opera for a bit. She's really jumped all over as far as genres. Linda is still with us, but has a debilitating disability and hasn't been able to sing for some time. Dolly used to always voice a prayer for her at the end of all her shows. You'll definitely be happy to hear Linda sing "Desperado". And if you decide to hear Emmy Lou Harris, "Boulder to Birmingham" is worth the listen.

She is the most versatile vocalist of all time, male or female. She has some country with she’s done Patsy Cline songs she did the Eagles she did the Rolling Stones she did opera and yes, there is a great studio recording of this song as well. Just look on her Greatest Hits.

Linda Ronstadt is from Tucson, AZ. Her ancestor migrated from Germany to Sonora Mexico, then they later settled in Tucson. The Ronstadts were prominate rancheros, mercados and musicians. She grew up singing with her familia traditional Mexican songs.
One of the deepest rabbit holes you will ever take part in. You name the genre of music, and you can find her singing it masterfully. Please keep digging into her catalogue.
Congratulations! You have discovered the most beautiful voice on the planet. Linda is an American treasure with a forty plus year career spanning multiple genres. She has the perfect blend of power and sweetness. There’s a certain quality to her voice that I can’t quite name but it conveys a pleading, vulnerable edge that is just exquisite. She’s amazing. I highly recommend checking out her live performances whenever possible because she can do anything live that she does in the studio. More of LR please. 🌺✌️
Nicknamed "First Lady of Rock and Queen of Rock" it's sad that she is not known more by younger generations. 11 Grammys plus many other awards . Up there with The Beatles in album sales.
She was a great singer. Before they left to form a small little known band her back up band had Glenn Frye and Don Henley in it. Yes the little known band was The Eagles.
She helped a couple guys who were in her backup band get their start with their own band. Those guys, Glen Frey and Don Henley, went on to achieve some success with their new band. She then helped them boost one of their songs, Desperado, by recording it. She was quite generous and gracious.
She is simply incredible. I suggest that you react to La Charreada, where she performs with Mariachi Vargas. She released an album that celebrated her heritage, and the song really highlights her vocal chops.
THE WAY BACK ROOM!! In 1971 Linda recruited Glenn Frey, Don Henley and Randy Meisner to play in her band. Ya have to read her history. She sang Desperado absolutely awesome. She sang it to the point that a couple members of the band give her credit for making that song such a great hit. She was amazing. CHECK OUT DESPERADO by Linda. There are many many hits in this rabbit hole to check out
As I was born in '66, I can honestly say Linda was my first famous girl crush. That crush has yet to fade, she is beautiful in person and voice in my eyes. She will always have a special place in my heart
Broke into the mainstream with a band called The Stone Ponies doing the song "Different Drum" written by Mike Naismith of The Monkeys. She had an amazing voice.
Fun Fact: A backing band included Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner, who went on to form the Eagles, tours with Linda in the 70's...... 🙂. This is such a beautiful song....., With a great reaction!
My husband and i binged watched your channel last night. Enjoyed especially Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin and Heart. Then i awoke and found you reviewed Linda Rondstadt- another favorite. One of her earliest songs “Long, Long Time is exceptionally beautiful. Her voice and genre are both so versatile. She has won so many awards. Yes, she is loved so much. Thank you for bringing her on!!! 💕🙏🌝
One of the greatest female vocalists of all time. Also one of the best selling performers of all time. Her vocal range and control are virtually unparalleled as well as holding (I believe) 14 grammys, 1 Latin grammy and nominated for a Tony. All around well rounded artist that could do it all. She had to retire about 10 years ago due to Parkinson disease. It's tragic to lose such a wonderful person to such a dreadful disease
Great reaction, Sam and Phil! As a young man, i, as countless others, was in love with Linda. A beautiful young woman with a fantastic voice. The first song i heard her sing was Different Drum, when she was with the Stone Ponies.
Anything by Linda is amazing. She even sang with The Eagles for a while. For a real treat catch any of her collaborations with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris. Amazing
Absolutely beautiful! She is indeed special. Linda has so many great songs. "You're No Good" and "Desperto" come to mind. I do remember hearing about Linda and the Eagles in the early years.
I was lucky enough to see her live at the MCG in Melbourne, Australia in the 70’s. She and her backing band were absolutely fabulous. It was devastating for all of her fans and no doubt Linda herself, when she had to stop singing because of ill health.(PSP) I hope you she is doing as well as can be expected. ❤️
Linda Ronstadt takes the cake with the most (thirteen total) Hot 100 hits (almost all in the Top 40) that were all cover tunes: “Blue Bayou”, “Heat Wave”, “Hurt So Bad”, “I Can’t Let Go”, “It's So Easy”, “Just One Look”, “Ooh Baby Baby”, “Poor Poor Pitiful Me”, “That'll Be The Day”, “Tracks Of My Tears”, “Tumbling Dice”, “When Will I Be Loved” and “You're No Good”.
Her voice was so beautiful. Staying with "Blue" in the title, you should react to "Midnight Blue" by Melissa Manchester. She's all but forgotten now but was a huge talent in the 1970s.
"Blue Bayou" was a million selling major hit for Linda Ronstadt in 1977, and was written by Roy Orbison, who had a minor hit with the song in 1963. Linda followed this hit with a 1958 Buddy Holly song, "It's so Easy", also a major hit for her. In addition to folk/rock/pop, Linda went on to record Grammy winning albums of Mexican songs. and followed that with a move toward the great standards of American music. She could really sing anything, and be successful at it. In 2019, Linda was a Kennedy Center award Honoree.
"Our" '70s crush. "Country rock" yes, but she also excelled singing big band tunes, Hispanic songs (a nod to her heritage), musicals, light opera...what am I forgetting?
If I had to pick a favorite song this would be it. I grew up on a tiny little island with a fishing village up in the Pacific North West and this song takes me back to the those days l. God bless Linda!!!
The lovely Linda no one can touch her, she was one of the top female artists of the 70's and 80's, she did this live, no auto tune artists don't perform like this anymore. She was a pure musical genius who explored multiple musical genres and was a smashing success in all of them!
"Blue Bayou", was first done by Roy Oberson who had an international hit with it in 1963. It later became Linda Ronstadt's signature song, with which she scored a Top 5 hit with her cover in 1977.
Linda never got the kind of recognition that she might of had say these days with YT and other platforms. She was so versatile and was never a trendy singer. She sang songs she wanted to sing.
I’ve always loved Linda’s rendition of “Desperado” (written by her former band mates and friends, Don Henley and Glenn Frey). My other favourite of Linda’s is “When Will I be Loved?”
Linda as has been said can do anything...she was also a member of the "The Trio" with Dolly Parton and EmmyLou Harris. If you get a chance, just for fun, check her out in "Pirates of the Penzance", its on youtube doing her Operetta greatness!! A Voice that can do anything. Not to mention, for my generation she was every mans dream girl!!
Willie Nelson said there are two types of people in the world. Those who love Linda and those who haven't met her
Wise man, that willie.
Linda's voice was the Swiss army knife of music. The right tool for any genre.
LOVE this analogy!! :)
You stole that from Rob squad reaction
No auto tune no filters just straight up CRAZY TALENT!
Linda Ronstadt and Mariachi Vargas - La Charreada will blow your mind

La Cigarra with Mariachi Vargas is also amazing...

"Blue Bayou" is a song written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson. It was originally sung and recorded by Orbison, who had an international hit with his version in 1963.
Her rendition of Dylan's "I'll be your baby tonight" is fantastic.
I remember that.
"You're No Good" is another great one from her. Shows more of her hard rock sound. Also, some of the Eagles members started out as her backing band.
On the Midnight Special.

Even MORE powerful, I think… I never really realized the extent of Linda’s vocal abilities until I saw her sing “La Cigarra” and “La Charreada”!

“LA CIGARRA”
AND
“LA CHARREADA”

@@kurttuchscherer7706 Yes, poor choice of words on my part. You said it much better 👍
Linda had it all. Massive talent, range, genre, power. And the three "B"s made her very easy on the eyes. Bangs, Blue jeans, Bare-foot.
Fourth B: Bernie Leadon
Not too shabby having had Eagles as a backing band! 🤓👍
Wait til you hear her singing Mexican folk music like "la cigarra" and "La charreada". Amazing.

Any of her songs are standouts. Even in Spanish.
She was known to be one of the best back in the day!
and a cutie.
Goosebumps. In my younger years, I was told I looked like a cross between Ronstadt and Emma Samms.
Her live version of “Desperado” is a masterpiece!
Very beautiful voice. She has many good songs and she sings them all very very good.
Linda is amazing! She has a fantastic catalog of music. ❤
"Blue Bayou", was first done by Roy Oberson who had an international hit with it in 1963. It later became Linda Ronstadt's signature song, with which she scored a Top 5 hit with her cover in 1977.
Phenomenal singer .. a rabbit hole you’ll enjoy going down ..
Love her. Will never be another! What a voice range! All of her songs are amazing!!!
Linda never got the kind of recognition that she might of had say these days with YT and other platforms. She was so versatile and was never a trendy singer. She sang songs she wanted to sing.
She wasn't a sell out.Although she must have had some sell out concerts.
Incomparable Linda....I love her
I’ve always loved Linda’s rendition of “Desperado” (written by her former band mates and friends, Don Henley and Glenn Frey). My other favourite of Linda’s is “When Will I be Loved?”
To sample her versatility, also listen to "La Charreada," "What's New," and "Poor Wandering One."
Linda and Aaron Neville have one of the greatest duets of all time That May be all I Need to Know🎶🎶🎶 I would guess around 1974.
It’s called Don’t know much 1989 is year it came out
