The lovely Linda no one can touch her, she was one of the top female artists of the 70's and 80's, she did this live, no auto, tune artists don't perform like this anymore. She was a pure musical genius who explored multiple musical genres and was a smashing success in all of them!
Linda Ronstadt had the most beautiful voice on the planet until it was silenced by a neurological disorder. But she has a forty year catalogue that spans multiple genres and she has the perfect blend of sweetness and power that produces the voice of an angel. She has won every award and honor imaginable and richly deserved each and every accolade. I cannot say enough in praise of this stunningly talented woman. Well worth a deep dive. 🌺✌️
She was the biggest rocker chick in the 70s. She has won so very many awards. She sing country , rock, pop, blue grass, she was in the film version of the Prirates of Pinance and sang opera. She also had the biggest selling non English language al um. She was honored at the Kennedy Center for her contribution to music.
This song was written by Don Henley and Glen Frey of the Eagles. They used to play back-up for Linda and she helped them get started as the Eagles. Great and talented woman. You should listen to Don Henley singing this. Awesome.
@@fw1421 The first release from the Eagles was vastly different from when they re-released it I believe you can hear the original from their 1971 concert. Linda asked if she could record the song and her version is the style the Eagles used when they re-released it and the rest is history.
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "Blue Bayou", "Long Long Time", "You're No Good", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. Linda also collaborated with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris on a few "Trio" albums.
One of the most beautiful voices ever and one of the biggest if not the biggest female artists of the 70s. She wasn’t a songwriter but had great interpretations of many well known songs. I recommend that you listen to Long Long Time if you haven’t already done so.
The Eagles were her touring band before they made it big on their own, and that's who wrote this song in 1973 -- it was their hit before Linda covered it. They always gave Linda her credit for being a big part of their career launch, and she's sung this song with them on stage as well. "Long Long Time" and "Love Has No Pride" were two more of her early-years hit ballads (w/ her Stone Poneys band) if you like her vocals like Desperado. Just as powerful as this too. Thanks Samantha!
First saw Ronstadt when she was just 15 years old. She was a phenom! She could sing anything, from Pop, Spanish, Rock and Roll, Country, Opera...with her 6 + octave range. She is Hispanic, her parents coming from Mexico. One of her best albums was "Songs of my Father" which was mariachi music. Her portrayal of Mabel in Pirates of Pensance (a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta ) was amazing. Unfortunately, Parkinson's disease stole her voice but didn't steal her attitude. I'm old but it amazes me that people are just now starting to "discover" perhaps one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Nice reaction.
Linda is only part Hispanic. Her grandfather or great grandfather, I can't remember which, was from Germany, hence the surname Ronstadt. Also, her mother is of European descent.
@@d206gt: Mexico is a melting pot, though to a lesser extent than the U.S. Her great, great grandfather emigrated there from Germany & subsequently married a Mexican citizen, but their children married Mexicans, so on her father’s side is predominantly (& culturally) Mexican, while her mother was a mixture of English, German & Dutch ancestry. But being from Tucson, Arizona, the Mexican influence is strong.
She wasn't raised speaking Spanish and had to learn it for that album. She didn't' sing it phonetically; that wouldn't have been genuine. So she learned the language and was able to put real feeling into it. That is dedication to your craft.
One of the top three female singers of the rock era, quite possibly number one because of her versatility. Loved her from the first time I saw her live, barefoot in Levis and a sleeveless top at the Fillmore.
Great song play. You made a lot of good points about not hearing these amazing voices today. I grow up in the 1970s in Texas and the music was and is still amazing. A lot of music today is too loud and hard to hear so I don’t listen much to modern music. There’s always exceptions to this like Adele. Thank you for playing Linda Ronstadt. She is close to my heart.
This was written by Henley/Frey of the Eagles. The Eagles record company thought this was too "cowboy" and wouldn't let them record it. So, they let Linda do it first. OMG. After Linda did THIS, the record company said, uh, yes. Stunning, in every possible way.
Hey Samantha. I grew up listening to Linda Ronstadt, among many other vocalists in the early 70s. A time I now realize I took for granted. Talent that wont come this way again. No gimmicks or auto tune. Linda truly stood out as a recognizable voice in only a couple of notes. Only Karen Carpenter, with the most beautiful female voice of all time, sang this better, or at least as well. React to the time of talent to appreciate the best in music.
1977, a year after I graduated from High School. Doesn't feel like that long ago, but it is almost 50 years ago. Still love so many 70s bands/singers....so fortunate to have grown up then. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I shouldn't be shocked when people who are unaware of Linda's talent can't believe they have never heard her.I took her for granted because I'm her age and live in America.I must say however at this time and with her disability I love and cherish her recordings. She really is and American Icon and Treasure. We love you Linda
I’ve been listening to Linda Ronstadt since the mid-70s and there is no female vocalist better ever she could sing anything to perfection, soft music, hard music, fast slow rock, blues country, Jazz, opera, American standards duets mariachi And she put so much passion, heart and soul into every song
It was in 72 or 73, I can't remember which, I saw Linda Ronstadt in concert. Her warm-up act was Jose Feliciano. She was late because she sprained her ankle getting off the plane, but it was only 15 minutes or so and Feliciano filled in until she showed up. Her performance was unbelievable and what really impressed me was her personality, it was just a joy just to be in the same building with her.
This song was always special to me. It summed up my high school sweetheart and me. Off and on through the years we would talk...but he was still the same. Now, we are both retired...we talked last year...he told me he had finally came to his senses about a lot of things. "You, you really loved me...I knew you did..but when another would come along..off I went. You were there waiting for me. You mended my wounds...and off again I would go. I did you so wrong." I saw Linda performing live in Central Park as Mabel in Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta "The Pirates of Penzance". Mezzo Soprano glory! I have loved Linda for decades. I only scrolled down a dozen comments but saw no mention of her start with The Stone Ponyes. Definitely worth a listen.
I went to high school and college in the 1960s so my two favorite female singers of all time are Linda Ronstadt an d Judith Durham. They are both national icons. Today all we have are the recordings and memories. Linda cannot sing any more and Judith has a lead position in a heavenly choir. Both are equally missed. Love you girls. There have never been any better.
Linda, is a true American treasure of Mexican and German ancestry, born and raised in Arizona, Southwest USA. There is no Genre of music she cannot do. She is considered to this day the Queen of American Country Rock Music as well as tops on so many others,
Linda always had the ability to take my breath away. She could be so delicate and so powerful. Attributed to Willie Nelson: There are two types of men in the world. Those who had a crush on Linda Ronstadt, and those who never heard of her.
A lot of music that came out in the 70's and 80's was good. The vocals weren't autotuned and the studio musicians knew how to play their instruments to make sounds that carried you to distant worlds... There is a lot of music to recommend - but I'll just leave one... Sarah Brightman - Nella Fantasia... She's your gateway into opera... Or... Lindsey Stirling - Crystalize as an intro into instrumental modern violin...
My generation had the best music ever. The 1960's and 70's were prolific with a very wide range considered 'rock and roll'. Desperado was written by the Eagles but Linda made it even better by slowing it down to a ballad. The Eagles went back in the studio and re-recorded it as a ballad. Linda was one of the best selling women vocalists in the 60's and beyond, up until her diagnosis of Parkinsons and quit singing.
Earlier in the 70s I saw her do this with the guy who wrote it and his partner wrote the piano intro and arranged it. That was Don Henley and Glenn Frey. The Bass player in that backup band was Randy Meisner. 3 of the future Eagles. I saw her 4 times all shows were fantastic.
I think I was in 11th grade in 1967 when I first heard her. She is still on my Spotify playlist and have a lot of her albums. Her heritage is American and Mexican. She has a lovely album, Canciones de mi Padre. Silver Threads and Golden Needles is another good one. Love is a Rose, Heat Wave, Blue Bayou.
Linda sings everything....at one tiime she had the number on song on the country and western charts, pop and rock charts. She sings coloratura soprano on POOR WANDERENG ONE whch she did on broadway for a year. she sings big band with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra WHAT'S NEW....beautiful ballad on ADIOS, she made the #1 album in Mexican History....look up La Ciggara....rock....Tumbling Dice written for her by Mick Jagger and on and on she is the number one woman singer of all time as she can sing 7 different genres of songs....look at all of these and you will be amazed
You must watch The Sound of My Voice. Excellent chronicle of Linda Rondstadt’s career and life. She is truly an amazingly gifted singer who was successful in many genres of music 🎶 I thoroughly enjoyed this film, many times.
Linda Ronstadt could do most anything. From Mexican mariachi albums to being Mabel in the English Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Pirates of Penzance. There were apparently no limits to what she could do with her voice.
The first release from the Eagles was vastly different from when they re-released it I believe you can hear the original from their 1971 concert. Linda asked if she could record the song and her version is the style the Eagles used when they re-released it and the rest is history.
I probably heard this when it was new but I really like the Eagles version. As someone mentioned, the Eagles were formed from at least some of Ronstadt’s back up musicians.
Thank you for your reaction. I understand your love of music, so I would like to suggest some of Linda’s songs that you could react to or just listen to for your own enjoyment. “Ooh, Baby, Baby,” (album version), “The Moon aid A Harsh Mistress.” (album version) and “La Charreada,” live version with Mariachi Vargas. They are worth your while.
I always loved this song. Her version was my favorite by far. The first I ever heard, so to me it was the original. I always loved Linda Ronstadt since I was 9 years old in 1975. Always loved Crystal Gayle too. I'd like to see you react to "When I Dream" if you haven't already. Or "The Woman In Me". However, there are great highly underrated vocalists that you might not be so familiar with that I am desperately trying to get allot more people to listen and react too. Holly Dunn, My Beloved Lari White. Kelly Willis, Mandy Barnett, Shelby Lynne, her sister Allison Moorer among others. These are some of the finest voices of the past 40 years in Country Music or any genre. I personally think that Lari White and Mandy Barnett could hang with Linda Ronstadt, Patsy Cline or anybody else vocally. You would be hard pressed to find two better voices, more versatile voices. To get you curious, here is footage of Mandy Barnett in 1994 still a Teenager at the time. She had just won "the national New Miss Patsy Cline" contest. Mandy comes out on the Stage of the Grand Ole Opry as Patsy singing "Blue Moon Of Kentucky". It's just incredible as she looks and sounds almost exactly like Patsy did. Mandy was just inducted into the Opry as an official member a couple 3 years ago. Certainly, well deserved. ua-cam.com/video/IqUiCL7N8gw/v-deo.html

Linda Ronstadt could do most anything. From Mexican mariachi albums to being Mabel in the English Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Pirates of Penzance. There were apparently no limits to what she could do with her voice.
She's without compare, the best female vocalist of the 20th century.

Linda is of Mexican heritage and sung many Mexican songs. You can easily find some of them online. Look out for an album called "Songs of My Farther."
