  • Pastor Jeff & "Hello Saints"? What to think about Pastor Jeff McCulloch's "outreach" to the Saints of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? Is He Building Bridges? Or Building Off-Ramps? Much love, David.

Totally agree! Jeff is trying to convert Latter-day Saints. We each have our ministry. This is his, and he's just nice enough to hope you'll listen.
I'm a Southern Latter-day Saint, and growing up here in the Bible Belt around Evangelicals gives me a different perspective.
Jeff studied his target audience and learned if he just speaks softly, acts like he's just trying to understand us, then he will give the impression he's actually trying to build bridges, and maybe (just maybe!) will learn enough to want to join the Church.
    It's a giant, soft-spoken con job!
He's trying to build a following from disaffected Latter-day Saints, and the fact he's moving to Utah to start his own Church ought to let everyone know he's not here to join our church, or understand it beyond learning how to better relate to the people he's trying to convert to his church.

I am a convert to the church, I was only able to watch two episodes of Hello Saints, I think for those of us who spent so much time without the church, when we sincerely find it we know deep in our hearts what it is, then when we see things like Hello Saints within seconds we know the true spirit behind it… whether he is aware of it or not
It was so glaring it literally made me cringe both times, I stay as far away as possible from Hello Saints and anything like it…

I remember commenting many months ago when you first covered this topic that in the beginning when I first saw one of Pastor Jeff’s videos, I became concerned pretty quickly about him. I remember having the scripture in Moroni come to my mind that only those who will read the Book of Mormon with “real intent” would be able to come to the place of conversion and that Pastor Jeff was in no way interested in reading the book that way. So that was like after his first or second video and I have not watched one since. Recently Gregg Madsen of Cwic Media had Pastor Jeff on his show again discussing, among other things, why God allows good people suffer. I began watching because I love the shows on Cwic Media and I was wondering if there might have been any change in Pastor Jeff. It is very interesting that when Pastor Jeff is in his own element, on his own show and platform, he appears very confident, nice, informed and polished. That day however I was quite struck by the fact that he appeared the opposite. It was actually very painful to watch him fumble around for the right words to say to the questions being asked. It was not Gregg’s intent to stump Pastor Jeff but it was apparent that Pastor Jeff was really twisting in the wind to answer or explain or talk about his understanding of why God allows suffering in the world. The reality is that Pastor Jeff didn’t know and his lame attempts to answer those questions made me feel sad for him. I immediately felt no light in him and only darkness. Not the darkness that comes from evil but the darkness that comes from the lack of the spirit which brings light and truth. I had to stop watching because I could not stand watching Pastor Jeff twist himself up in so many knots. I can only pray that he gets some benefit from his association with the Latter Day Saints because he really has nothing to offer us!

Your comments prick my heart. I need to stay focused . the middle covenant path and listen to the living profits and not allow an unordained individual to interpret my belief in Jesus. Our time here on the Earth is so limited that we only have time for a limited number of voices. We much choose wisely.

    Brother David,
Thank you for the continued effort to set the record straight, concerning Hello Saints and Pastor Jeff.
Over a year ago, I subscribed to Hello Saints and was following his videos along with a dear friend from Pocatello, however she stopped following his videos because she saw & felt something that did not ring true to her, with him and his statements.
One thing was his visit to the BYU campus.
What my fiend noticed, was how Jeff kept ignoring his wife's request's to visit the campus launder mast, that were here that there along the way. She asked several times, but he blew her off, this really turn my friends head around on Jeff, not listening to his wife.
One thing, that struck to me in his reviews of the Book of Mormon, was the other day while going over the Come Follow Me study, while ponding upon many of the lessons that Nephi had written about and how deep & foundational they are in the Book of Mormon to be at the very beginning of the book, which really set the tone for the rest of the book!!! Then this thought came to me, why didn't those doctrinal statements of Nephi impact Jeff at all? They didn't even seem to move the needle with Jeff. Why did he just gloss over them, like they meant nothing or he would compare them to a New Testament verse or passage and minimize the verse in the Book of Mormon.....ever so slightly.
He kept doing this into other parts of the Book of Mormon, then I realized the depth of his sincere interest was shallow, and as you say, David....he is building off ramps in his own careful way.
I never, as of yet found his last commentary, after 3 Nephi, which he seemed to be unimpressed with, not impacted at all & as for the ending of the books in the Book of Mormon, maybe they are out there, but however I had seen enough to know when a person is deeply touched by the message and Spirit of the book, like a voice crying from the DUST, that his sincere interest was lacking, like he was just going thru the motions.
We all have our STEPPING STONES or STUMBLING BLOCKS in life.....Jeff is facing his and he may not even know it as of yet. .
Perhaps, he may come around.....when I was in the mission field we would knock on doors & if they were not interested we would move on, be polite & wish them a good day. We didn't have the time to get entangled in the back and forth, unless they were showing some sign of sincere interest, even then we would strive to plan seeds, hand them a small pamphlet.
There were many different faiths in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania & lots of ministers, who wanted to bash against us.
It was a baptism by fire, sharpening one's discernment abilities.
Blessings Brother David & I look forward to your move back to the USA & if I understood correctly, you may be coming to Pocatello, Idaho...which is great!!! I live down the road a bit, in Ogden, Utah, so we will be looking forward to your new life in Idaho.

Completely agree. I thought the same thing. The promise if you sincerely study the BofM would bring about conversion. I've experienced this in a friend who claimed she read it. She never has shown a real interest or joined in all the years I've known her. I knew she had lied. She did not really read or study the BofM or the promise would have been realized. So sad for my friend whom I love. If only they would really try to know.

If not then again why on earth did he leave everything he knew and his ministry where he lived to live among the LDS in Utah? Makes no sense.

David, I've heard Pastor Jeff, and I've heard Him communicate with Greg of Cwic. At first I thought maybe he was interested in the Restored Church, and I was hoping when he read the Book of Mormon and heard the beautiful testimonies of the Apostles and Prophets that he would feel the spirit of truth. However, as time went on, I felt he was more interested in converting us. We can be loving and kind, but when one has had a witness of the Lord's true Church, nothing else will do. Jeff is very loveable, but you are right, that we need to be cautious where we spend our time and what we listen to. I think because you have had to wait for 47 years to find the true church of Jesus Christ with Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone, that you appreciate what you have now, and avoid deception and doctrine that is not solid in its authority and foundation. I am with you. You are something else. 💕

Well said, David. I had an evangelical professor at BYU who was an excellent teacher and knew a lot about the restored gospel and its history. Despite decades of being among Latter-day Saints and knowing so much about the gospel, his pride prevented him from recognizing the truth in front of his face. I used to look up to him so much but that respect eroded when I realized that he was intentionally putting on blinders to prevent conversion.

I’ve watched this “Jeff” fellow a few times, mainly in hopes he might convert, as I did 48 years ago, and he may. Everything I heard from him tended to drive a wedge between the Restoration and what is nowadays called mainstream Christianity. I totally agree with you about spending our study time each day/week in The Book of Mormon or talks/writings of the Prophets, both ancient and present, and prayer where we seek the will of our Father! I was a hard nut to crack. Pastor Jeff seems to be too. Pray for him. I’m disappointed in Greg Madsen while he continues to give him a huge platform to “spew” his understanding of the true Jesus. Greg probably can handle Jeff but can the thousands of listening members do also. I hope they are not sending him money. The best policy is to unsubscribe to his sight and let the missionaries teach him the approved discussions, with their appropriately and timely challenges, just like you were taught by the “sisters”!

Br Alexander, As someone who is now "one of us" what is your perspective of being a former scoffer to someone who is now scoffed at, quite a bit now? Did you know how real the hate and vitriol would be? I still get it from my extended family 47 years later. Apparently when
I got baptized, my first name was ditched by my extended family and they decided to start calling me "the mormon" 😂. Id much rather prefer "the happy Mormon", but I guess that that's just way too many syllables for them. Not that it matters to me one bit. So be it. But I'm am curious now that you're a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints how your personal relationships from before your baptism treat you? Being a member of Jesus Christ's true church is an honor and privilege and I'm just so grateful for my membership and my faith. Let them scoff all they want. Scoffing will not change the truthfulness and divinity of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints one iota.

You are so right. He is charismatic and does seem so sincere. However, I felt that he and his wife are not truly looking into our faith. I seen the conversion of many including yours and there is defined difference.
The Holy Ghost has shared this with me. You are on point and it’s so true.
He is very charismatic in his connecting with us and it is for spiritual and financial gain with his drip by drip off ramp. He is doing this ever so kindly and slightly.
We, as members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are just so enamored with his seemingly non-evasive potential conversion. That is in his own words not going to happen as he truly does have a different intent. It’s simply a new tactic by the deceiver, but it seemly is in the nicest way. However, you are correct and I’m personally not interested in any off-ramps.
Thank you David for sharing your insight and memorable stories and especially scriptures.

Hi David I agree with you . Pastor Jeff's messages are very subtle and they get twisted over time in his videos to persuade people to go his way of thinking . I saw in a video of his when he was talking to Kurt or maybe his name is Kirk, an LDS friend of Jeff's , when they were down in St George, that one of Jeff's purposes is, that if there are members of our Church who are having a faith crisis, he would invite them to go to his church and to come his way, because he would rather have them go to an Evangelical Church then to become Atheists. So his main audience he is targeting are those members of the church who are having faith crisis's. He wants to help persuade them to come to his church and learn more from him. Once again, to me, this is priestcraft because he's getting paid to be the pastor of his church by the people . Now if he was doing all these videos for free, this might be a whole different story. But he's getting money off of patreon from people who are supporting him on his channel. To me sometimes his messages are backhanded slap to us all across the face, that we are wrong and that the Evangelical way of thinking is right. It's like he's saying you don't need to repent , you don't need to work so hard, you don't need to do works, you just need to believe and that's all you have to do . That to me is a fallacy! The whole reason this Earth is in such upheaval is nobody wants to take accountability and responsibility for their sins and transgressions that they create with other people. The reason so many people are in pain is because they don't repent and ask for forgiveness and give forgiveness to one another. That's how it makes me feel sometimes when I hear his messages. They are very subtle and carefully crafted. People need to listen very carefully to what he's really saying. And then turn him off just like you have suggested David.
Thank you for your commentary on this video .

The scriptures actually say “few there be that find it”. I have discovered, sadly, that there are many who do not want the truth. Once you do find it, fix your focus on truth and “heed not” those who do not want the truth. Satan sets clever traps for good hearted people. Avoid dabbling in them and focus on the many strengthening voices offered by the Savior and HIS CHURCH. ❤️

David, thank you for your fine videos and great testimony! I'm very glad you put this video out. Some months ago, when Pastor Jeff was fairly early in his Hello Saints videos, I watched a few of them and sincerely hoped (and probably prayed) that he would be converted to the Restored Gospel. But there came a time when I began to doubt that he was going to accept the true Gospel, and it was then I pulled away from watching his videos. Later, when I realized he was moving to Utah, I felt he evidently had some ulterior intentions.

Just wanted to express my appreciation for you, David. I stopped listening to Paster Jeff after you discussed him first on your channel. I think, like many followers of his channel, that there was a hope for his conversion as he continued investigating the Church. But he was not impressed with the speakers when he attened General Conference. So that was a red flag to me that there was another agenda he was pursuing. I felt his mind was not open as he was learning about our religion. You, on the other hand, were open to learning about the gospel and have gained the understanding and strong testimony of it. It is a joy to watch your channel. Thank you for your humble and sincere teaching on your channel. You probably don't know how much good you are doing. Take care and may you be blessed in your upcoming move.
Sincerely, Brother Mike Hardy, Riverside, CA.

I’m not sure why Latter-day Saints are still listening to Pastor Jeff when President Nelson said this in general conference: “Never take counsel from those who do not believe. Seek guidance from voices you can trust-from prophets, seers, and revelators and from the whisperings of the Holy Ghost,”
We have opportunities to build interfaith bridges in real life. Don’t pretend that consuming Pastor Jeff’s content is the same as building interfaith bridges with each other.

Brother Alexander, spot on! I could not have said this any better - in fact, I marked my scriptures on the proverbs reference, as it didn't click until you said that! I bear witness that the Holy Ghost guided you on these comments, for surely you were speaking truth! I knew about Pastor Jeff a long while ago, and was astonished at how many members watch his videos thinking he's on a "conversion path". I too wanted to believe (as I'm sure many honest LDS members do) that Pastor Jeff was and is a very sincere person, but after recognizing a few things, I realized he's just trying to make money off of a very large segment of LDS members and is also attempting to sway people from the church. He is the VERY definition of a wolf in sheep's clothing - and a very convincing one at that too.
First, the way he titles his UA-cam channel and videos, attracts LDS members like a bee to a flower. What hasn't clicked yet for people is he's profiting from all those who are clicking on his videos. He's building his recurring revenue for retirement (or perhaps funded his move to another state - where he thinks he can convince many to join his congregation) through these videos.
Second, in one of his earlier videos where he "claimed" he wanted to learn more about the LDS faith by reading the Book of Mormon - he wasn't about "learning" anything. He literally read the Book of Mormon with skeptical eyes and spoke against anything that conflicted with HIS views of Christ. If someone wants to know the truth, they must wash themselves clean of all worldliness and man-made theories and read it with an open mind. No prejudices or preconceived notions - for if our perceptions are way off from what Christ truly wanted, how else will you see truth? THAT is one of the surest ways to have the Holy Ghost testify to you, IF you are willing to change and follow Him when you receive your answer. If you look at the book with skeptical eyes and look to tell others how it's wrong and off-base, you are NO different than the Sadducees and Pharisees when Christ walked the earth - trying to trap Christ in His words, in divers ways.
For all those evangelicals who have been convinced by your pastor and congregation, that praying if the Book of Mormon is true is in fact praying to a demon of lies -> I ask you to read Moroni 10 again with a different set of eyes, for it reads: "Verse 4: And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost."
Notice the part that is says "ASK GOD [...] IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST" - when was the last time you prayed to God in Jesus' name, and thought you were praying to a demon? Stop being fooled by others who are trying to pull the blinds over your eyes. You can know from God Himself! Don't put your faith in MAN! I am living witness that He answers prayers!

I pray that Pastor Jeff's increased understanding of our Church's doctrines, will allow the Spirit to point out those verses that get ignored or tied in knots to try to make them fit into mainstream Christianity. And if necessary, God will cause Jeff to be humble. There are good people in all religions, who don't know where to find truth and don't know that they don't have truth, or they are threatened away from where to find truth. I noticed his subtle attacks, whether he intentionally does it or not. With phrases he throws in like "Jesus Christ of the Bible" or "The only word of God". But the truth is that Jeff and the other mainstream Christians don't teach Jesus Christ of the Bible, they teach Jesus Christ of the Nicean and Athanasian Creeds. If they do, they why are they adding elaborate commentary and change definitions of words in the Bible to make it fit the Creeds, instead of changing the Creeds to make them fit the "inerrant" word of God, the Bible?

Apparently you have to have a doctorate in theology to determine the "True" meaning of scriptures. Tax collectors, fishermen and especially carpenters don't qualify to interpret scriptures. So, for David to talk with Jeff McCullough, really, could only help and could be looked at in a couple of ways.
David speaks Jeff's language, so to speak. David knows how to present things in a way from Jeff's perspective. David was a Pastor at several points himself but, I think that would scare Jeff as well. He's afraid that if he denounces Protestantism with all the negative things he's heard about the Church and Joseph Smith that he's risking being saved (except he's already met the requirements of accepting Jesus as his personal Savior so, it really doesn't matter. I've asked Protestants if I was going to hell for being a Mormon and some say No, not at all, I just have a different view of Jesus as they do, and others still say No, but I've just been deceived. Catholics will outright be bold and honest and won't beat around the bush and mince words and say I'm not saved because I haven't been baptized by proper authority. But, by all accounts, Jeff could be baptized and still be okay, by his own beliefs because he's already professed Jesus as his personal Savior and prayed the sinners prayer, that's all that's required for salvation, but he's still afraid.
The other thing is though, in the end, we'll be judged by what we know (accountability). The more Jeff learns, the more the Spirit can testify to him and thus he becomes more knowledgeable and accountable. In the end, the Lord will say "Jeff, they taught you everything and you still refused my word, you turned me down and turned away from me. You even went digging yourself and the Holy Ghost bore witness to your soul and you still denied me, I'm sorry." The deeper Jeff diggs, the more he drinketh damnation to his soul kind of thing. Just like one appears before a court, the Judge takes into consideration what that person knows, their maturity level and how much they know and comprehend the law. Jeff, knows the basics and if the Holy Ghost has been going to town on him and Jeff's ignoring it, he's in the thick of it and he knows a lot more than someone in China or North Korea knows about the restoration of the gospel so, he'll be held accountable for that in the end. David can only help and that conversation from protestant to protestant would make Jeff all the more accountable so, it's a good idea. If David were to turn it down, it's a missed opportunity, but, at the same time, Jeff has others working on him like David Snell and Greg Matsen. Greg defends Jeff and takes whatever opportunity to help him, I think Greg seeing all the attacks on Jeff kinda shut him off to everyone.
Personally, Id like to see David conversing with David from 52 Churches in 52 Weeks. David could do a lot of good. David from 52 is coming along really well, he's seeing it and figuring it out more than Jeff who is just flat out letting pride get in his way, it makes sense to him and he knows it, but fears gotten in his way.
As far as more direct to the title of this video: It's both. Jeffs building bridges so that eventually he can use the off-ramps. Latter-day Saints are like an abused child CPS has to come and get. They've been abused for so long and have fallen under so many attacks, that anyone who says something nice or gives them the time of day they'll look to and love. Jeff can eat this all up and it tastes good to him. He's building relationships of trust with people so he can eventually start hitting them with the doctrinal questioning, he's just a lot more patient than most Evangelicals AND Latter-day Saints for that matter. Jeff can watch a TV series over time where most Evangelicals (like Jeff Durbin) have to binge watch or skip to the final episode to see how it ends, and Jeff McCollough knows this, he's seeing Jeff Durbins tactics and failures as a result. Durbin can pick off one at a time, Jeff is shooting for a mass baptism, he's more subtle than Durbin.
Jeff is also a businessman. You'd never find a Latter-day Saint in a sanctuary sitting with the congregation and when the collection plate comes around find them putting money in it. Won't happen, because Latter-day Saints say "I pay my tithing twice a month." But, UA-cam as a whole is the New Age way of this selling the Gospel for money, Patreon is the new Collection Plate. You wouldn't find a Latter-day Saint giving Jeff McCullough money in his churches collection plate, but he's cunning enough that he's appealing to the abused Latter-day Saint, that he's able to woo them by their own terms, and they're paying him in a different collection plate, he's made Patreon money selling them a warped view of the Book of Mormon and General Authorities talks and he's been able to move to Utah to further his work as a result of it.
In all fairness, The Stick of Joseph and Ward Radio, and the likes do the same thing. It's preaching to the people and asking for money to sustain themselves, sound familiar? Latter-day Saints don't do that, we believe in a lay ministry, we don't believe the Gospel is for sale, or out Bishops and Stake Presidents would be getting paid like other faiths, it's all voluntary service. If one of those demanded pay, they'd be released. Even the Seventy aren't paid. The Twelve and First Presidency are, in a way, but most of them worked for the CES so it's part of their retirement and they can justify it that way, but no one else is paid for their service. Missionaries pay for their own mission, they're not paid, but Jeff McCollough has found the New Age Religion Collection Plate, and he's wooing Latter-day Saints enough that he's found a way to make filthy lucre off of them in a way they wouldn't otherwise, who have eyes to see, do so. THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST IS NOT FOR SALE, ITS FREE TO ALL. But, Jeff has found a way otherwise. He reframes it as entertainment

Thought Jeff's agenda was pretty obvious. The thing is... he can't offer the things our church has, and that's what truly makes our religion worthwhile. The inability to recognize the Book of Mormon as God's word should be a pretty strong indicator of the insight a person has into the mind of God (or simply put, whether or not they can hear the Spirit), and the clarity that book brings into the Gospel is a necessity. Folks, we can appreciate Jeff's efforts, but I'm looking for further light and knowledge, not less.

He seems not comprehend or understand the fact Revelation has always been the same on subject matter throughout time and that Revelation is truth and what one dispensation was revealed to them would be the same in another . So he seems to want to minimize the importance of foundational Doctrine or perhaps he just does not comprehend it and it's been pretty much that way for one book to the next so I gave up on him

So, couple questions for good ol pastor Jeff. When Christ taught and preached for 40 days before his ascension back to heaven, according to Acts chapter one, all he said was written. If all that is real scripture is already and only in the Bible, where are those written records of Christ after resurrection teaching? Or was that not real scripture? .... If Christ is also God and God is only spirit where the real resurrected body of Christ now? Did it plummet back to the earth as all watched him in real time ascend back to heaven? If we were made in God's image why are not all just glowing orbs of light? ... When Peter responded to Christ that he was the Christ, the true son of God and God stated that his testimony was from direct revelation from the father himself through personal revelation of the holy Spirit, which he referred to as the rock in which he would build his church, the spiritual confirmation, not Peter the man, why is it not necessary today to use the very same confirmation by the spirit to verify anything else that is or may not be of God? Did the apostles of old write and teach all that they did in their day from there own mental thought alone? With no input or communication at all from the spirit? If you agree that it could have only been scriptural if received through the spirit directly from the father then, if we ask sincerely, will the father nowadays ignore our questions about what is true of him and what is not? And if you agree that spiritual confirmation comes to all men that ask of sincere faith then why does anyone need you to superspeed the spirit to it being YOU to confirm what is true and if God, or not? Answer please ok wise one Master,,,sorry,,,pastor Jeffy

And Jacob chapter 7, we are introduced to a man named Sherem " who had a perfect knowledge of the language of the people and could use much flattery and much power of speech according to the power of the devil. And he had hope to shake me from the faith..."

I like how you end your videos with a prayer. It goes to show how sincere you truly are. I watch a lot of other UA-cam videos from all the other LDS creators and there are a lot out there, and you seem to be great at what you are doing.

Let us all continue to pray for pastor Jeff to be more receptive to the promptings of the Holy Ghost to him ( pastor Jeff didn't realized that he accidentally follows the Holy Ghost prompting to him to relocate tu Utah as a start for him to find the Heavenly Truth).
