Dusty Smith converted to the church, served a mission, and was pen pals with Elder Perry. After encountering "anti-Mormons" for the first time, he started researching church topics that he had never heard before In church history. Dusty left the church for 26 years.
He spent those years doing everything he could to tear down the church. He debated In online forums with members, trying to prove the church wasn't true. After many miracles, including a priesthood blessing and a miraculous healing.. Dusty came back. One of his favorite people to debate the church with, had been putting his name on the temple prayer roll for years. Dusty says his love and prayers led to his coming back. Dusty baptized, and was sealed to his wife. Now he does everything he can to make up for his years of attacking... including having his story of redemption told by Elder Uchtdorf In conference.
Dusty's message to you: "Remember, Heavenly Father loves you as much as if you were the only person on the planet. No matter what happens In your life, Heavenly Father will always believe In you."

Love this, I left the church in 2005, wrote a letter telling them to remove me from the records. I went back in 2009 and shortly after my husband was diagnosed with leukemia and died in 2011 after a 2 year battle, he was not a member of the church but had supported me as a member. Heavenly Father told me he wasn’t going to survive it, but I was still so devastated and angry I left the church again in 2011 after he passed. 3 years ago this February the missionaries knocked on my door and I was never happier to see anyone in my life, I knew they were supposed to be here. I had my blessings restored and was able to be sealed to my husband at the Oquirrh Mountain temple that he had visited with me during its opening in 2009. I’m the adult Sunday school teacher and I have a strong testimony that this is Christs true church. Short version of a long journey….

Husband's and Wive's are one, not two anymore, when they get married. So, when we mention only God the Eternal Father's name, it's including GODDESS the Eternal MOTHER too, why? because they're one, in purpose. It's in the Old and New Testament. And, the best and perfect thing for you to do is, counsel with GOD the Eternal FATHER and GODDESS the Eternal MOTHER, about the existence of GODDESS the Eternal MOTHER, our beloved HOLY Eternal GODDESS MOTHER. One day, GODDESS the Eternal MOTHER, eventually reveal HERSELF to you. @@pepsilaron We don't have heavenly parents, we have a Creator God who has no wife and has no need for intercourse to create anything. The Bible says God spoke the world into being and breathed into man fashioned from the dust of the earth. God is not a man and never has been one, and the Bible also states that He is the only God who has ever been and will ever be, so there is no such thing as eternal families or planets of our own as gods either. I'm sorry if this disappoints you, but it's the true word of God. God the Holy Spirit seals each true believer in Jesus for God's eternal family for eternity. We will recognize one another in heaven as Peter recognized Elijah and Moses on the Mt. of Transfiguration, but we will not live in family units as common sense tells us that we are all related so many generations back and forward and all the relative are related sideways with others who also have families back and forward , so in reality we're going to be one giant spiritual family. As Jesus says, "who are my mother and brothers? Those who do the things I say to them." Hope you'll be one of us. Jesus is the key who unlocks heaven's door to eternal life.

I wonder if that turns them away more though. If you can’t be honest to their face, and respect their wishes, how is it done in a sincere way? I can understand if you child was under 18, and you told them you still wanted too. For me, honesty is EVERYTHING to me. I don’t feel comfortable, well I just don’t do things behind thier back no matter how much I might ‘know’ it would benefit them. Respecting them and supporting them as the precious human being they are being is very important to me (as long as I’m not supporting addictive bad behavior). Perhaps that makes me a poor ‘missionary’. I would definitely not be good on a debate team. I say how I feel and listen how the other person feels and I don’t feel compelled to convince them otherwise on things that could have personal experiences etc. and I’m actually interested in understanding their background from their upbringing and experiences that shaped who they are in their beliefs.
The thought of doing something anyway when someone asks seems like a betrayal. But he had a friend do it for 20 years, he was mad. But is now okay with it. The only reason why I can think someone would ask to to put their name in the temple is because they are seeking to be ‘seen’ from you or supported and show up in a different way. I have never been angry at God, so that is how I feel if someone says that but does not actually come to see and help with something difficult (unless the can’t or are already helping) but otherwise it can feel like they are passing the responsibility of the relationship off.
Perhaps maybe, it’s most important if possible to say something like, I can sense you have a hesitancy, or whatever you sense, just talk… but don’t ignore…
Enough of this. I never click on these videos. Don’t know why I clicked on it.
My family are converts. And they were hippie type people. The invitation was given, but not pushed. They ultimately received answers shockingly for themselves.

This guys arguments are so unsophisticated. There are at least 50 facts which prove Joseph Smith was never a prophet. I will mention 2. Firstly, Joseph Smith had seven different versions of the “first vision.” Each one totally different, in one he saw only an angel, in another one he saw God. he kept changing the story. If the man saw God… He would not forget to mention it later, telling people he simply saw an angel. Ridiculous! Thus the founding vision of the church is a fake. Number two, The Mormon church is currently worth $140 billion. Billion with a B. It spends next to nothing on charitable causes. Why? Because they love their money. This is not the religion of God. It is a business. Nothing more. Anyone who faces facts honestly And has a modicum of intelligence can only come to the conclusion Joseph Smith was not a prophet, and his church is an utter fraud.

The Church has 17 million members. Also, if you think about it, with 100 Billion divided by 17 million members, that's only about $6000 per member. Harvard has an endowment of 53 billion divided by 32,000 students, that 1.6 milllion per student. I'm glad the Church is a good steward of the Lords' funds and invest those funds wisely so as to increase the funds. Reminds me of the parable of the Talents:
      Matthew 25:14 - 29
14 ¶ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he agave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 29 For unto everyone that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints does alot of good worldwide. The Church has donated BILLIONS of dollars to other organizations (Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, United Way, Red Cross, Colleges (some non-LDS), etc., etc., etc.,) for humantarian, medical, disaster relief, clean water projects in Africa and other areas, food banks, college scholarships, Wheel Chairs, etc. Most of these donated BILLIONS have gone to help people not of our faith. The Church (monetary donations, humanitarian aid, volunteers) have assisted in many of the natural disasters worldwide. The Church and its members are usually one of the 1st religious organizations that come out in large numbers to assist in these disasters (Earthquakes, Floods, Hurricanes, Wildfires, etc). Those that say that the Church is not doing enough and does not need all that money are WRONG. It’s like saying, if you have 2.5 million in your retirement fund, that you should donate half of that cause you don’t need all of that money, or tell the United States of America, to donate half of its military budget (800+ Billion) to poor countries, or tell the Catholic Church to donate half of its trillions of dollars in assets to the poor, or tell Harvard to donate half of their endowment funds (53 Billion) to other colleges, or tell Elon Musk (1 person) with his 100s of Billions to donate half of his money to other businesses. Each person and/or organization should be able to decide what is best for themselves, their organization, country, etc. It’s a good policy to have savings/additional (a rainy day) funds for people, as well as organizations, businesses, and churches, etc. In the early days of the Church, the Church struggled financially for many decades. Only in the last several decades through the tithes of the Saints and mostly sound and wise investments (real estate, malls, businesses, etc.) has the Church been financially stable.
As mentioned, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has done a lot and continues to do a lot. If the Church only has 100 Billion, the Church needs to increase the funds more through investments (real estate, malls, stocks, etc.). As the Church continues to grow in places such as Africa, South and Central America, etc. the funds will be needed to build and maintain more chapels, temples, fund Church programs, fund church colleges, fund the missionary program, etc. Also, the Church is preparing the Church and the World for the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ and Millenium. The 2 greatest work the Church will do doing the Millenium will be Missionary Work and Temple Work. Those that say that the Church doesn’t need money during the Millenium, does not understand the Millenium.
The Church Leaders are NOT getting rich off of the Church Funds (100+ Billion). The General Authority Church Leaders (24 hr Church Ministry) only get a stipend (basic living allowance) of $120,000+ (2014 figures, maybe alittle more now) unlike many of the salaries of these other non-profit organizations where many of these top leaders are getting paid over a million dollars each year, some 5 or 6 million. Many of our General Authority Leaders were paid much much more in their private lives as business owners, lawyers, doctors, scientist, etc. None of our local Church leaders get paid. The local churches (congregations) are all run by volunteers.

They have to admit things not just say we’ve disavow that and don’t believe it anymore, but they have to talk about the things they’ve done that are wrong and say “we were wrong about that“

Each and every individual Daughter and Son of God has a right to their own individual beliefs about, and relationship with, God and everlasting life. It's the single most important concept that each of us struggle with in this mortal life. Even people who are born and raised in this Church must face the question, and find their own answers/testimony for themselves. While we can look to each other for advice. wisdom, and guidance, we each have to find our own answers for ourselves.
      It's a beautiful, sacred journey!

“The Prophet Joseph Smith declared-and he never taught a more comforting doctrine-that the eternal sealings of faithful parents and the divine promises made to them for valiant service in the Cause of Truth, would save not only themselves, but likewise their posterity. Though some of the sheep may wander, the eye of the Shepherd is upon them, and sooner or later they will feel the tentacles of Divine Providence reaching out after them and drawing them back to the fold. Either in this life or the life to come, they will return. They will have to pay their debt to justice; they will suffer for their sins; and may tread a thorny path; but if it leads them at last, like the penitent Prodigal, to a loving and forgiving father’s heart and home, the painful experience will not have been in vain. Pray for your careless and disobedient children; hold on to them with your faith. Hope on, trust on, till you see the salvation of God” (Orson F. Whitney, in Conference Report, Apr. 1929, 110).

Im xlds and not at all miserable. I always say look at the fruits of the church as a whole...as an organization/corporation. Its fruits are so very ugly. But most of its people are fantastic. ALL who are seeking connection to the divine always will be cared for and helped. Most assume such confirms what they are looking at/or are involved in is therefore the end all be all. This is a mistake, imho, as the spirit confirms love and blessings to all seeking people in all walks of faith, even to those with no faith. It seems the church can even be a beneficial stumbling block on the way to eternity for those who need it. Just dont forget there is always more, and one can graduate from the church... as the church is a "limited hang". Cheers

    • @stumbledontothis
      @stumbledontothis 5 місяців тому +5

Just as a point of reference, people who have left the church generally aren't miserable. Most live very content lives. My belief is God doesn't judge us based on whether we were happy or content in our lives. He bases it on whether or not we kept his commandments. I would venture to say, living inside the covenants made at baptism, in the temple, and keeping the commandments given in the Bible, will lead a person to a happy afterlife, not always a happy mortal life. I find joy living those covenants and commandments in this life, but quite frankly, even if my life totally sucked, maybe by persecution, maybe by economic status, maybe by mental health, etc. I trust that the Lord will count all my struggles for my good in the end.
I mean, if the church is completely wrong... I can at least say to God when I die I did my best with what I thought was true. Or if God doesn't exist... Then I guess I'm just dead.
BUT...if the church is true and/or there is a God, then nothing changes for me. But I think some other people will have a lot to explain when all their anti-rhetoric is called for inspection.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I hope no member of the church would ever say derogatory remarks about another church or people, but instead say, "God loves you, repent of your sins, turn away from the negative in your life and follow Christ. Serve others. Take all the good from your current church and beliefs and join us. Build on the truth you know, and grow even more in Christ through making and keeping covenants with God."
I know my life has been blessed enormously by keeping my covenants. I hope others find the same blessing in their lives, too.

I'm relatively new to your UA-cam channel. I love and appreciate what you're doing! I have felt for the last year or so that, much in the same way we've seen a number of lifelong church members lose their faith, that a time would come when we would see a trend in the other direction with many coming back to the faith. I've felt this, and now see the beginning of this with your awesome channel. This interview is outstanding. The story is outstanding. But then again, I haven't watched any of your interviews without thinking, "this is outstanding". Again, thank you for the good work you're doing. I've shared a number of these interviews with friends of mine that have left the church. I don't know what will happen to any of these friends in their faith (or lack thereof) journey. I don't need to know. What I believe is, that they are part of the Lord's plan whether they are in or out of the church, as all of us are. They arent' lost to the Lord whether they are aware of it or not, again, as we all are. This interview is evidence to me of that sentiment, which for me was personal inspiration that came at a time when I was a little distressed that some close friends of mine had left the church. A big fish in my mind is John Dehlin. I've listened to Mormon Stories for about 15 yrs, back when John Dehlin was still a believer. I watched his transition out of Faith to where he is now. I believe that while maybe John Dehlin won't come back to his faith, that other prominent anti-LDS figures will come back. Thank you again for this awesome interview and all the interviews you've don't so far. I didn't mean to do such a lenghty comment, but I wanted you to hear this (which I assume you've already heard many times before) and have one more, of many, thank you's from the ether... And thanks to this good brother as well!

It seems to me that you have faith based arguments. God led you... It wasn't the church that led you. It was God... When I was LDS, I realized that Joseph Smith, The Book of Mormon, and the church always got more credit than God and Jesus Christ. When I left, I left because I read the Bible without the Mormon filter on. I, too, prayed to God for guidance... However, God revealed a different answer to me... He showed me through the Bible, along with historical evidence and proof that Mormonism teaches an entirely different gospel than what is taught in the Bible. The creation story in the Bible teaches something entirely different than the creation story in the Pearl of Great Price. Not to mention, the historical translation of the papyrus that Joseph Smith used to write the P of G P is now known to be an Egyptian funeral text. Joseph got the translation wrong. He made up his own story. In fact, his story matches the lie told in the garden by the serpent. Imagine that. Polygamy cannot be separated from the church. Polygamy is part of the LDS plan of salvation and eternal progression. Do you even know your church Doctrine? I left the church, and I found God. Jesus was not our spirit brother and the spirit brother of Lucifer. He was who he claimed to be... Immanuel... God with us... When I was LDS, I cheated God of His full glory. I cheated the Son of God, Christ Jesus... Joseph Smith is a liar, and if you look honestly, comparing it to history and the Biblical gospel, you will see clearly that God is bigger and better than the Mormon gods could ever be... 🙏

Thank you. I am 85 years of age and when I was 9 years of age in 1948 the preacher said that Jesus Christ would not come again until Israel was a nation again. How could this be as Israel was not a nation and the Jews had been scattered and decimated by evil men. The Jews had no army or power to make war to take their ancestral lands. At 9 years of age I was listening to my shortwave radio and happened to tune in the United Nations voting to make Israel a nation again. Wow I heard a miracle, and I wondered if the Restitution of the Church of Jesus Christ had also happened and Elijah had come to do a great work as stated in the last 2 verses of the Old Testament. At 32 years of age I was a Baptist minister and while preaching a sermon I said "There is no other scripture than the Holy Bible and the King James version is the best version, such as the "Book of Mormon", when I said that the Holy Spirit said to me "How do you know that is true?" I didn't, so I called the Church advert in the Yellow Pages and acquired a Book of Mormon, I then took the discussions for the missionaries. I told them that I was not here to convert them nor to be converted, I just want to know what Mormons believe. I took the discussions and their message resonated with my core beliefs that differed from the Baptist doctrine, ie John 20:17 (as an example). I always felt I had a premortal life and that I was also a son of God before I was born, Ephesians 1:3-14. This was in 1970, I joined the Church and my Dad also a Baptist minister and pastor for 15 year. After 4 months of pestering, he read the Book of Mormon and told me that he and my mother have a testimony that the Book of Mormon is true and they then joined the Church along with 14 members of our family comprising 4 generations . The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the Restored Church of Jesus Christ and I know it and my wife and I are married 66 years and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple 53 years ago. I look forward to my wife and I enjoying an eternity together. I am now a widower, she died in 2022 of Alzheimer's disease in the 8th year in the nursing home. My wife was and is a wonderful companion. She was an invalid in the nursing home in her last years. She could not communicate or get out of bed. I visit her daily and feed her many times, telling her about her family and making up stories. We both worked together in the Church, she was a Relief Society President, Seminary teacher, Primary and Temple preparedness teacher. I love her with all my heart as it says to do in D&C 42:22. I am currently the Ward organist. Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer and I look forward to an eternity with Him and my sweet wife.

My faith over the years was dwindling terribly . Because my father left the church even though he had been in the bishop brick . My brother gave up on the church years ago and thinks the church is all about money. He won't even discuss it anymore. And dad has nothing but animosity toward the church because he asked for help with mom when she had Alzheimer's . Even when I told him that they are doing the best they can do. There are so many members to take care and they have me and Noreen my wife here to help. They didn't know that me and Noreen were also taking care of her father who had dementia and missing his legs. And I was working 5 12s and a eight. So sleep was in short supply. And so dad couldn't leave mon alone and he had grandma who was also loosing it and all were at home. Finally they all went to a nursing home. But we did this caring for all for about 4 years. He became frustrated with the church. I couldn't get him to understand. He wasn't rich. At all. And so he was about ready to kill himself , not joking . So now my mother is gone , and that was wonderful blessing because my wife saw her the day she died , was standing before her all in white smiling at her and she was beautiful. And then she disappeared. My wife said Richard , she was solid looking . She was right there before me . And then she was gone. How I know she was telling the truth. Is me , dad , and Danny were the only ones that knew she was a brunette and not a blonde. She said her hair was brown and long. That is when I knew she was completely truthful , and so you know I never doubt my wife. But my dad wouldn't listen . And even I started to have doubts about the church because I became so depressed over the last 9 years of loosing my job going blind, can hardly walk now. But then I started listening hugh nibly he is wonderful. And all of my doubts have left immediately . He had me realizing how truthful the book of Mormon is and much more so then even the Bible. My faith is now so strong and stand fast.

They don’t want your testimony shared again. They don’t care that you will keep praying for them. It’s insulting actually. If you want to keep believing cult nonsense, keep it to yourself. I’ve already lost any sort of relationship with my parents over the church. I wish they would leave this cult but I’ve given up hope. Maybe we could just accept each other and do the best we can to really love and accept each other. But content like this will just make it worse.

I was raised Mormon but stopped going at 16.. I was gay and came out..Now that is NOT why I stopped going..I still would go and be gay, I felt no guilt at all as I'm not catholic but the reason I stopped going was that at 16 young men become a "Priest" level I believe and go from setting up the Sacrament to having to bless it! Now I had a stutar and was terrified I would be made to repeat the blessing on the bread and water 10 times so I stopped going! Plus MY mom bought me a cool 1984 300ZX and I skipped church and school! Now at 49 years old, I do still believe the church to be true and would like to come back. I have not had a date with a man in 8 years or sex..in facet, I have no desire to date anyone! Or sex! I'm happy about that! I still find men attractive but I don't care to date or have sex..so I'm gay still but I don't have the nergy to do anything anymore! I'm old I guess haha I could easily never date a man again BUT I would NOT date a female to make the church happy! I mean when your mother serves you fish and it's stinks you don't care to eat it right? I can't stomach the idea of a nude female! Sorry! I'm gay still! Just not active gay! I still and always have loved and defended my church. I long to come back but don't know if my past actions would mean I would be re-baptrized which I would be ok with..

There are strong, well reasoned answers to difficult questions that can be found. Honest seekers of the truth would do well to hear them before making hasty decisions with their faith.

  • @DBrentWalton

Thank you for sharing Dusty's story.
Listening to "anti-Mormons" is like asking Judas about Jesus Christ. If you're a member with doubts, taking inventory of your life and turning God in prayer and reading the Book of Mormon for answers is the best thing to do. Be as King Lamoni's father.
Alma 22:18 "O God, Aaron hath told me that there is a God; and if there is a God, and if thou art God, wilt thou make thyself known unto me, and I will give away all my sins to know thee, and that I may be raised from the dead, and be saved at the last day."
Like Dusty, there was a time when I would argue with anti-Mormons. Then, something happened to me that proved to me the Book of Mormon was the word of God. It didn't "just happen", I had been reading the Book of Mormon and praying for answers.
After receiving that sure witness that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, I made up my mind not to contend with others. Instead, I've often said something to the effect, "I don't debate what I know to be true. The knowledge I've received from God is not up for debate or ridicule."

It’s interesting you say that. To me The Book of Mormon is the most anti LDS book out there. All you need to do is open your eyes and ears and read with the spirit and you will be testified too by the words of Christ and the holy prophets in the Book of Mormon of your false traditions in the LDS religion. The Book is the word of God. Stop getting to parts in the book that contradict your LDS traditions and actually believe the words of Christ in the Book of Mormon. Remove your stumbling blocks and come to Jesus Christ with a broken heart and a contrite spirit. If you do not know what I’m talking about than you truly haven’t read the book. I’ll give you one example. The BOM teaches very clear that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh. Ponder that with God to get an answer. I know he is my God in the flesh. Do you?

God answered my prayers more time than I deserved. I didn't get it from arguing with people, with using my eloquent words to persuade others itnis true. Love is kind, it envieth not, it doesn't boast and is not afraid. The arguments this gentleman makes are in my opinion poor. There is nothing of actual substance. Faith or personal revelation is not an argument that is valid for anyone outside the one that claims to have it. There are things that he has said that are demonstrably false. For example Joseph smith’s lack of education. Many flawed comparisons and arguments based solely in emotion. Feelings have no bearing on the factuality of something.
I’ve heard impassioned stories and testimonies like this from believers of different faiths. Why should I, or anyone else, believe one over the other? They all say the same thing you will… pray… god will let you know….

I've watched some of Hannah's videos, and made comments on them. She is in intellectual denial of established historical facts, particularly the evidence that Joseph Smith practiced occult folk-magic in the 1820s before he began talking about visits from angels and golden plates. The LDS church itself has admitted to it. Hannah's denial of it destroys her entire credibility to speak on any issues regarding Mormon history.

Not all Evangelical denominations believe that prophecy has ended. Paul listed prophecy among his list of gifts. I belong to denomination that believes prophecy is alive and active.

Happy I found your podcast. I’m a convert of over 50 years. My testimony of the gospel has never wavered. However on occasion I have not liked some people in the church 😂. Anyway this just faith affirming. Thanks for your work

I loved hearing the story of Dusty Smith. I had already read an article about him in LDS Living, but hearing him talk about his experiences was very special. Thank you so much for your faith and your honesty. May the Lord bless you with health and healing.

Thank you for feeding my faith. I have always said I don’t know what my life would be without the church of Jesus Christ in it.
There has been times that I have felt spiritually inactive but one day I decided to never leave the church regardless of my wrongdoings. I learned that as long as I keep physically close to the church, it’s always easier for me to keep coming back to my faith. Thank youAnd thank you again for sharing your amazing experience.
I pray that many people will get to this podcast and find the ingredients they need to rebuild their testimony.
