They are powerhouses. Keto brings them back. * You can derive 85-90% of your energy requirements from fat - on body or from plate. * When you go keto, you can eat all the non-starchy vegetables you want. * Example: carbs in broccoli are locked in a fibrous matrix. * Liver creates ketones in the absence of glucose. Eventually the brain will love it and become adept at using ketones for fuel. * There is no dietary requirement for carbs in human nutrition. * There are essential amino acids from protein and essential fatty acids from fat but there is no such a thing as essential carbohydrates. * There are over 200 genes that help us with starvation, but nothing to help us from over-eating. * Keto = 50 grams of carbs or less. BTW, "deaminate" = To remove an amino group, NH2, from (an organic compound). * So the only reason your need amino acids are for structural, for repair. For building and repairing things. You don't want to combust it. * Insulin is a nutrient storage hormone. * If you don't have insulin, you can't gain weight. * Protein = minimum 75 grams a day for a man. And does not exceed 120 grams. * If you're fat adapted, you don't need as many calories as you might think. * Protein can turn into a sugar if you eat too much. * Ketones cuts hunger. Keto diets controls hunger and cravings. Hunger dissipates. * As you get older, muscle on the body becomes more important. It's the forgotten organ. Avoid sarcopenia. * Definition: Sarcopenia is a type of muscle loss that occurs with aging and/or immobility. It is characterized by the degenerative loss of skeletal muscle mass, quality, and strength. The rate of muscle loss is dependent on exercise level, co-morbidities, nutrition and other factors. Autophagy = eats waste products. If you don't fast, the garbage builds up. * We now know that fat is the preferred fuel for human movement. Around 37 minutes: that's what I do also. I eat about 1 and a half meals per day, between about 1PM and 6 or 7PM. It's easy when you're on low carb. I never get "tired and hungry". I have plenty of energy. My one main meal though is good and hearty. I maintain a weight around 183 lbs, and height of 6' 2.5''. Age 64.
Singing that keto song. We all have that same result. I feel the need to stuff myself tho, i know I’ll not get another opportunity to eat and my stomach is so small. It’s actually stressful. I do prefer the grazing. But glucose control, A1C, and mental health win the day.
I really feel like I never tasted dairy until I found raw dairy from A2 cows a a farm near me. The big food dairy is a shadow of what the original tastes like and plus raw is easy to digest without immflamuation.

I have always been hungry. Keto is the first thing I have ever tried that made me not hungry. Fasting isn't hard because on Keto, I would just forget to eat (I have never in 50 years had this wonderful issue).
I'm 62 and never been over-weight. I have a job which requires me to be fit. I only eat two meals a day 5 hours apart. I don't snack or eat junk food . Grow some of my own food. I eat lots of butter, meat, fish and I rarely eat carbs or sugary things. I don't stress about what I eat...my body has always told me when I haven't had enough of something (or if I have had too much.) All very straightforward. Perhaps I have been doing this keto thing by accident?

My body tells me what and when and how to eat, simply by learning to listen to it and to the local wisdom of local elders who have always followed nature rather than globalization. I don't eat bread or pasta or cereal; I love vegetables, olive oil, nuts, seeds, legumes, oily fish, cycling and dancing and singing.
I love all that. Also do not eat bread or pasta or cornflakes. Wholefoods gluten-free diet. I also eat legumes, oats, millet, quinoa. Not in massive amounts. I eat fish twice a week. I have a lot to thank the Longevity Diet from Prof. Lango, a leading researcher. He bases it on real scientific evidence of longest-lived communities who got actual results of both health and long-lived lives.

I know because I used his principles (and Dr. Greger) for 18months -also cut most flour products and nearly all packaged foods- but my blood glucose levels were rising! There has been some questioning of the data on Blue Zones. In any case, I am trying 40% protein, back to eating animals, will get blood work soon to see if my triglycerides have been affected. Hope to avoid having to go keto. Just don't like the meals.

My friend just found out she has type two diabetes and even though she has watched me lose weight on Keto, she refuses to try it because her doctor says "no" so she is going down the insulin needle path like her father before her. So sad. I told her to look up Type 2 Diabetes & Keto because there are so many people that have changed their lives on Keto, but she refuses.
After following low carb /keto literature in books and on the web for 20 years, it's still great to hear a good discussion of the basics, like this video. I think that's because we're immersed in this culture that is still skeptical of all the great science that'ts behind this.
I did Keto successfully for 4 years.. My diabetes went away along with my cravings.. There's enuff healthy fat in the Keto diet to keep u full and satisfied..I went off of it about a year ago and although I'm not the same, coz I now have cravings again, there was a fundamental change in me and I have become health concsious totally!!

@@Jan-ed3ud You must be fat adapted. It took me almost 6 months to be fat adapted...but normaly that will be sooner. By the way, i eat carnivore and have no hunger anymore. But as soon as i eat other things than meat, i become hungry... Try to find out what is good for your body.
@@thonmaralli5045 that's a very generic statement. i don't eat something like ... rice. i'm pretty sure that in terms of carbs a tomato, two carrots are just fine on a daily basis besides lots of green salad, cucumber, russel sprouts, broccoli and green beans.
M. ark answered my questions about the ketogenic diet. I have been on it for just over a week. Yesterday, I was having second thoughts. Sleeping problems, hungry all the time. It takes 3 or 4 weeks, number one, and I can have my coffee. And the amount of food we do not need. Frequently peeing, especially at night, is just protein. I have no prostate issues. My problem is autoimmune disease. Hashimotos and thrombocytopenia . So all well.
Perhaps the best exchange available for the average person to understand health and diet. A good mixture of science and practical knowledge to help many understand this
I'm more carnivore than keto now, but I don't have hard-and-fast rules that merely test my resolve. The body has its own wisdom, and overthinking your diet has to be worse than the occasional apple. Best of health to all!
i agree that it is a good thing that our healthy way of life is now a selling point for the big markets. Now in every grocery store, there is a section for grass fed beef, keto products ( some are questionable) but we do have more choices of natural, organic products. I now can buy a variety of pasture raised eggs, organic veggies, duck meat, rabbit, lamb, bison, wild caught fish of all kinds ( my favorite being blue cat fish) the kind of stuff you could not see in the USA just a few years ago. Thanks to the net and folks like you. We do not depend on our doctors to learn about health. We can choose from a variety of sources, do our own research and forge our own opinion.
I totaly agree with all of his points. Amazing. How funny we get to the same point. sprinting is lacking in 99.9 I've watched and listened to thousands of hours of people in all of their focused fields and here we are. On the keto point, how to get there. I didn't know anything and dove into OMAD super high fat, medium protien. Holy cow did that suck. Keto flu like, ish. not super bad but pretty bad. My wife said, eat some dam carbs. It took a while 6 months in and out of it to get ok with it. one year into low carb. 100g or less usually. it's easy. Can go days with out food and water if needed. It can take a while. And frustrations can ruin the idea to stick with it. But also indulging once in a while. Not every night.
Omg I love what this man is saying...it’s all true. I know it from experience, but I can’t always give rationale for what I am experiencing. I know that my body doesn’t sleep well when I eat too many carbs, I know that I go back into ketosis much easier than I used to, and so many other things he covered. Loved it!

I just started trying to do keto reset and do NOT want to go full carnivore, and have clinical anxiety so the thought of "never do this and never have that again or it will ruin everything," although I know academically it isn't logical, doable, or required, my fun brain says "you'll screw this up and be miserable forever." This talk really helped. Get your body reset to know how to use both fat and carbs (but mostly fat and protein), do the all natural, naturally low-carb food the vast majority of the time, and having what a gal in Oklahoma Gardening calls "celebratory foods" (love that term) from time to time isn't a problem if it doesn't become a long-term habit again. And if it does, do the keto reset again and get back on the bandwagon. No harm no foul. Many, many thanks.

6:20 The mantra "Fat burns in the flame of carbohydrate" was actually from a book by Bobby Haas called,"Eat to Win". Covert Bailey's, was called, "Fit or Fat" and his mantra was to, "Make my body a better butter-burner". I was in college at the time, also an avid runner of 10K races, and got completely suckered in to the low fat craze combined with pre-race carbo loading.
Just watched this 3 yrs later & needed to hear it. I’m attempting to go keto but I’m NOT metabolically flexible at this time & had reactive hypoglycemia last time I tried bc I dropped my carbs waaaay too quickly! I’m going to go slower & drop that way. Thanks for the info! ❤❤❤❤
If we had “smaller plates” and used a small salad bowl like in the fifties, we’d choose some fish or meat, a definitely low carb vegetable and two teaspoons of sweet potatoes. Dessert used to be TINY! We have TOO MUCH OF EVERYTHING AND WE NO LONGER EAT AS A FAMILY. Stress eating used to be a bad thing. At over 65 I’m eating less, say 850 calories per day but my activity is gardening. Unfortunately I have cardiomyopathy after being sprayed with Aldicarb. People don’t know how to wait for ANYTHING least of all food.
I started just doing low carb for 7 months, which was huge improvement for my blood sugars. Then I took it then next step to keto, adding in more fats, and fasting 18 hours. My overnight fasting glucose is 95 ish, After meals I spike to 122 ish. I walk after meals. I skip breakfast. I'm off my insulin and diabetes meds. With keto more of the weight seems to be coming off.. I started around 204lbs now at 173. My goal is 165lbs and 1 more inch off my stomach. Also my blood pressure is much better (normal), but still taking my b pressure meds for now. I'll have to try stopping them and see what happens. My main goal is to get rid of fatty liver(ct scan), and control diabetes though diet alone.
I'm convinced I'm on the right track. I want off the meds and let my body heal. I hope it will re-build. I'm 76. I had a heart attack at age 55! I have heart disease, kidney disease stage 3, and emphysema. For 55 yrs I was athletic but I smoked ate basically meat & potatoes, lots of ice cream, smoked and liked more then a cpl beers! That all ended 21 yrs ago. I'm tired of B/P pills, avorstatins, Isosorbide, & Metopal. // My B/P on lisinipril goes 200/100 then down to 88/45! I quit taking Lisinipril 10MG twice a day. After a week the spikes in B/P weren't as severe. I quit Montopol also. Last night I said no more Advostatin! // I quit eating carbs. I'm eating meat, fish and stews made from fresh veggies and going to make raw smoothies. Also I drink 3 qrts of water a day mixed with 1/2 oz of vinegar & same lemon juice // Any advise? I went from 200lbs to 160 over 2yrs!
Well done for taking control of your life! Not being medically trained, the only thing I would be able to suggest is - be careful with the smoothies (depending on what you put in them, of course) and avoid juicing because it removes most of the potentially benefits and the remaining liquid is much too quickly converted to glucose once it's drunk... Either way - Good luck!

@@chuckkady7282 I'm drinking water with fresh lemon juice and apple cider vinegar too. But, Omega 3 Fatty Acids are the detergent of the blood. It's sometimes hard to eat that much fish, but you can't go wrong with 1 teaspoon of Icelandic Virgin Cod Liver Oil daily. It fullfills your entire daily requirement for Omega 3's. I'm healing an ulcerated wound on my ankle that I've had for 7 years. It's almost gone now. Gave up sugar, grains and seed oils in Jan 2021 and I'm down 80 pounds as of Dec 2021. I'm not on any prescription medications and I'm 63. However, I was addicted to carbs, fat and pre-diabetic for years. I found that all you have to do is give up Processed Foods and Alcohol. Good luck. PS I never was addicted to soda and I gave up diet soda more than 20 years ago.
I’m 81 & ketovore since my seventies . I’m off all meds and have reversed my diabetes2 within the first month of being carnivore & using dr Ken Berry/ you tube as my primary Go To for reference and support. My daily carb intake is under 10, but I’m also constantly mindful of avoiding acting cultish.🫶
I eat the same. Black coffee early, first meal around 1:00. Basically carnivore but I eat kimchee every night, as well as an avocado along with grass finished beef or lamb.

I really tried sticking with the the keto diet, but I just felt awful and it's also really difficult to stick with. I then tried the Agoge diet and it was life changing, I highly recommend it to everybody.

I do fast for 16 hours at a time, 3 or 4 times a week because ill be working all day on our show. BUT when i eat dinner on those days, i swear i eat 3000 calories! I go crazy! 😩
I watch my carbs but I'm not giving up my sweet potatoes or pasta once in awhile or lentils ..I don't like meat or chicken...but I eat meat once a month.i count my carbs every meal..I intermittent fast...hours of fasting...I skip meals...I make most of my own food from scratch...I don't think eating eggs all the time is healthy but that is me...I excercise...
A great conversation - my takeaway is - if you want to be lean be a fat burner, if you want to burn fat, eat fat, mainly, eat once a day. Don’t be rigid, but when you fall of the wagon you will pay the price. Once your sorted as a once a day eater and a fat burner you’ll feel better. Eat quality fats, certainly not man made oils.
What about those with Hypothyrodism? Keto is fine, but all the cabbage family (including broccoli) are bad for those of us who are hypo, I did a three month keto diet - super strict only eating cabbage family veg - to get rid of candida, which worked, but my thyroid blood work went through the floor. All other veg are basically just sugar.
I do NOT adhere to KETO, I do OMAD. Eat in a 1 hour window. And have done so for many years. Can't imagine ever going back to eating multiple times a day.
@@motomoto2296 You kind of learn to tolerate the hunger which comes and goes with time. As for carbs, when I have tracked it's approximately 120 grams Back then fat was apx 60% and protein and carbs apx 20% each. Update... The research by Dr Donald Layman swayed me into ditching OMAD in favour of at eating 2MAD at the very least as resistance training is now being under taken.
I have been using 100% grass fed Whey protein (Level Performance Provision's) Vanilla Cinnamon best protein ever, and multi collagen peptides. Lemons are good also with the collagen. But it makes fasting, way easier, But the superfood of all is extra virgin unrefined coconut oil in my daily 2 cups of coffee. I perfer it over MCT oil, it does not upset my stomach. Loss 1.5 pounds over night. That day I lifted heavy weights 2 times, 6am fasted workout, then back at 10 am to work other areas, plus a ton of walking. Then I rest from weights 2 days. Works well, making serious gain's. had 5 protein shakes. One meal, macadamia nuts, garlic stuffted olives, avocado, grass fed cheddar from Ireland. Some grass fed milk. 2 organic honey crisp apples, a whole banana, almond butter, some extra virgin olive oil, and some organic blueberries. I feel great waking up, I was peeing all day, I had so much water.

You can maintain keto by yourself, but there people who don't want to invest their time in cooking. I personally cook at home, I don't buy any branded "keto" products. Just buy fresh meat, fish, green veg. But I understand that there will always be people who just are not in the cooking.
I agree with that, but I gotta say, I don’t like making mayo and would prefer a healthy brand from the grocery store. Not like I use a huge amount of it through the course of the year. Maybe 8 times a year I mix up a can of tuna.
I learned so much here. I've decided to try Keto to move some belly fat I love to juice and have used small amounts of healthy fats. But I started eating bagels about 6 months ago and did it for 2 months. Belly fat is the result....The high fat nature of Keto goes against my long-term dietary habits. However I understand the science and am now testing in on myself.
Just stick to good Fats, and you should be fine. Quality animal flesh and eggs (Grass Fed, Pasture Raised of course). Grass Fed organic beef tallow or lamp drippings. Grass Fed butter or ghee. Coconut, avocado, walnut or macadamia oil, and especially a good quality EVOO (see the Olive Oil hunter's website). Organic nuts (activated preferably) and seeds like chia, flax & pumpkin. Have at least half an avocado most days. Include some fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut or kimchi, and make sure to consume plenty of cruciferous veggies, and you have the basis of a great diet. If you can do dairy, stick to hard aged cheeses like parmaggiano reggiano or pecorino (sheep milk cheese), and try A2 milk or even raw milk if you can get it. I don't care what any Plant Based zealot says, the above kills their shitty deficient diet. Smashes it....to be honest !
what about going on an all raw foods diet with focus on raw meat, raw fruits (high glycemic index), no grains, high fat? i have tried raw vegan, carnivore, keto... i figured they all had good aspects to me but none of them worked sustainably for me... why? cooked meat messes up my digstion. i sleep awful on too much of cooked meats. eggs will be ok and so are avocados. pegan was not what i liked because of all the greens..but i realized that raw meat and fish were perfectly fine for me... no digestive issues then and much higher energy levels and improved sleep. High raw vegan got me very skinny but also loosing muscles and not just bodyfat... i felt weak after years of vegan/rawvegan which is why i went pegan, then keto and then carnivore. but honestly i believe some sugars are not a problem to the body. bananas got me very lean and happy and i could go with only 4hrs of sleep while on a high raw vegan diet for a long time eating up to 20 bananas a day!!!. which is why i assume the body does not have any effort to digest all the bananas. i believe it is all about speeding up metabolism, depite eating sugar or not. for me raw meat, avocados and raw sweet fruits speed up my metabolism and give me a great feeling. this is why i am now checking out an all raw diet!!! i am very convinced that this is the right way now for myself...! i don´t need kale, cabbage, peas, mushrooms and salads. my body wants fat from meats and avocados, easily digested animal protein and sugar from tropic sunriped fruits
For people with a blood sugar regulation issues you can’t eat all the non starchy veggies you want at ONE time. The volume of food will stretch the intestine (the in return effect) and raise blood sugar.
May of 2014, I read Jonny Bowden's LIving Low Carb which led me to the _Primal Blueprint_. Since then, I have shed many ailments including hypothyroidism, pre-diabetes and slowed the progression of my blinding disease. I have also gone from 230 lbs to 190 lbs. I have recently gone to carnivore temporarily to address arthritic symptoms.

* Awesome interview with Mark Sisson.
* Glycogen is the storage form of glucose in your muscles.
* Tim Noakes wrote the book called the Lore of Running - advocated high carbs, but later he switched to low carbs - big shift in science thinking.
* Sugar suppresses immunity. If sugar is there then vitamin C can't get in.
* What turns to glucose quickly in the blood is like eating sugar. Example: rice.
* Lots of our genes can be changed (turned on a off) by our lifestyle.
* Primal blueprint: our genes are a recipe that rebuilds, renews, regenerates us, recreates us every minute of every day based on certain inputs.
* Genes are a predisposition, not a pre-destiny.
* Eat lots of plants and animals.
* Walking is one of the best things you can do.
* Lift heavy things every now and then.
* Sprint at least once a week.

* Keto means we become good at burning fats, after achieved, genes will be turned on to burn fat at a higher rate.
* Fat is burned with there little guys, the mitochondria. They are powerhouses. Keto brings them back.

* The liver makes ketones, and the brain thrives and prefers ketones.
* The brain does not burn fat; it burns ketones. It does better on this than sugars.
* Thus your body can make glucose from fat so that is why there in no external need for carbs from nature. Hence no such thing as essential carbohydrates. The body rocks!
* Once achieved, epigenetics comes into play, activating genes to spare extra amino acids, protein than we might need. So the body had to work, has to deaminate it, pee it out. BTW, "deaminate" = To remove an amino group, NH2, from (an organic compound).
* So the only reason your need amino acids are for structural, for repair. For building and repairing things. You don't want to combust it.
* Insulin is a nutrient storage hormone.
* If you don't have insulin, you can't gain weight.
* Protein = minimum 75 grams a day for a man. And does not exceed 120 grams.
* If you're fat adapted, you don't need as many calories as you might think.
* Protein can turn into a sugar if you eat too much.
* Ketones cuts hunger. Keto diets controls hunger and cravings. Hunger dissipates.
* As you get older, muscle on the body becomes more important. It's the forgotten organ. Avoid sarcopenia.
* Definition: Sarcopenia is a type of muscle loss that occurs with aging and/or immobility. It is characterized by the degenerative loss of skeletal muscle mass, quality, and strength. The rate of muscle loss is dependent on exercise level, co-morbidities, nutrition and other factors. From Wiki.
* Lift the heaviest weights without getting hurt.
* Heavier weights with few reps increase strength over time.

* When you eat sugars and starchy foods, it burns dirty in your mitochondria (your powerhouses), leaving waste products which are free-radicals which drives aging!!!
* When you burn ketones, it burns clean (or much, much cleaner).
* Skip a meal = the more your body says, "This is a great time to do some house cleaning." Autophagy = eats waste products. If you don't fast, the garbage builds up.
* We now know that fat is the preferred fuel for human movement. Ketones rule!
* Cholesterol is not the bad guy as history reports. Cholesterol is a very important molecule in the body. It's integral to life. You body makes 1,300 milligrams a day whether you have it in your diet or not.
* HDL is the good cholesterol.
* Cyclical keto = do keto on and off. Old human history did this.
* Industrial seeds oils affect your insulin sensitivity.
* Getting kicked out of "keto" is not a big deal. Don't chase the numbers.

Around 37 minutes: that's what I do also. I eat about 1 and a half meals per day, between about 1PM and 6 or 7PM. It's easy when you're on low carb. I never get "tired and hungry". I have plenty of energy. My one main meal though is good and hearty. I maintain a weight around 183 lbs, and height of 6' 2.5''. Age 64.
Singing that keto song. We all have that same result. I feel the need to stuff myself tho, i know I’ll not get another opportunity to eat and my stomach is so small. It’s actually stressful. I do prefer the grazing. But glucose control, A1C, and mental health win the day.
I’m keto, but gave up the dairy due to allergy/inflammation. I eat veggies and some fruit, occasional blueberries and pomegranate. I feel amazing.
I really feel like I never tasted dairy until I found raw dairy from A2 cows a a farm near me.
The big food dairy is a shadow of what the original tastes like and plus raw is easy to digest without immflamuation.

I'm 62 and never been over-weight. I have a job which requires me to be fit. I only eat two meals a day 5 hours apart. I don't snack or eat junk food . Grow some of my own food. I eat lots of butter, meat, fish and I rarely eat carbs or sugary things.
I don't stress about what I eat...my body has always told me when I haven't had enough of something (or if I have had too much.) All very straightforward. Perhaps I have been doing this keto thing by accident?

I love all that. Also do not eat bread or pasta or cornflakes. Wholefoods gluten-free diet. I also eat legumes, oats, millet, quinoa. Not in massive amounts. I eat fish twice a week. I have a lot to thank the Longevity Diet from Prof. Lango, a leading researcher. He bases it on real scientific evidence of longest-lived communities who got actual results of both health and long-lived lives.

I know because I used his principles (and Dr. Greger) for 18months -also cut most flour products and nearly all packaged foods- but my blood glucose levels were rising! There has been some questioning of the data on Blue Zones. In any case, I am trying 40% protein, back to eating animals, will get blood work soon to see if my triglycerides have been affected. Hope to avoid having to go keto. Just don't like the meals.

My friend just found out she has type two diabetes and even though she has watched me lose weight on Keto, she refuses to try it because her doctor says "no" so she is going down the insulin needle path like her father before her. So sad. I told her to look up Type 2 Diabetes & Keto because there are so many people that have changed their lives on Keto, but she refuses.

After following low carb /keto literature in books and on the web for 20 years, it's still great to hear a good discussion of the basics, like this video. I think that's because we're immersed in this culture that is still skeptical of all the great science that'ts behind this.
I did Keto successfully for 4 years.. My diabetes went away along with my cravings.. There's enuff healthy fat in the Keto diet to keep u full and satisfied..I went off of it about a year ago and although I'm not the same, coz I now have cravings again, there was a fundamental change in me and I have become health concsious totally!!

M. ark answered my questions about the ketogenic diet. I have been on it for just over a week. Yesterday, I was having second thoughts. Sleeping problems, hungry all the time. It takes 3 or 4 weeks, number one, and I can have my coffee. And the amount of food we do not need. Frequently peeing, especially at night, is just protein. I have no prostate issues. My problem is autoimmune disease. Hashimotos and thrombocytopenia . So all well.
Perhaps the best exchange available for the average person to understand health and diet. A good mixture of science and practical knowledge to help many understand this
I have always been a terrible sleeper, but on Keto, I sleep solid through the night.
I'm more carnivore than keto now, but I don't have hard-and-fast rules that merely test my resolve. The body has its own wisdom, and overthinking your diet has to be worse than the occasional apple. Best of health to all!
i agree that it is a good thing that our healthy way of life is now a selling point for the big markets. Now in every grocery store, there is a section for grass fed beef, keto products ( some are questionable) but we do have more choices of natural, organic products. I now can buy a variety of pasture raised eggs, organic veggies, duck meat, rabbit, lamb, bison, wild caught fish of all kinds ( my favorite being blue cat fish) the kind of stuff you could not see in the USA just a few years ago. Thanks to the net and folks like you. We do not depend on our doctors to learn about health. We can choose from a variety of sources, do our own research and forge our own opinion.

I've watched and listened to thousands of hours of people in all of their focused fields and here we are.
On the keto point, how to get there. I didn't know anything and dove into OMAD super high fat, medium protien. Holy cow did that suck. Keto flu like, ish. not super bad but pretty bad. My wife said, eat some dam carbs. It took a while 6 months in and out of it to get ok with it. one year into low carb. 100g or less usually. it's easy. Can go days with out food and water if needed. It can take a while. And frustrations can ruin the idea to stick with it. But also indulging once in a while. Not every night.
Mark Sisson is always one of my basic guy to go. The center of the filed.

Omg I love what this man is saying...it’s all true. I know it from experience, but I can’t always give rationale for what I am experiencing. I know that my body doesn’t sleep well when I eat too many carbs, I know that I go back into ketosis much easier than I used to, and so many other things he covered. Loved it!

I just started trying to do keto reset and do NOT want to go full carnivore, and have clinical anxiety so the thought of "never do this and never have that again or it will ruin everything," although I know academically it isn't logical, doable, or required, my fun brain says "you'll screw this up and be miserable forever."
This talk really helped. Get your body reset to know how to use both fat and carbs (but mostly fat and protein), do the all natural, naturally low-carb food the vast majority of the time, and having what a gal in Oklahoma Gardening calls "celebratory foods" (love that term) from time to time isn't a problem if it doesn't become a long-term habit again. And if it does, do the keto reset again and get back on the bandwagon. No harm no foul.

6:20 The mantra "Fat burns in the flame of carbohydrate" was actually from a book by Bobby Haas called,"Eat to Win". Covert Bailey's, was called, "Fit or Fat" and his mantra was to, "Make my body a better butter-burner". I was in college at the time, also an avid runner of 10K races, and got completely suckered in to the low fat craze combined with pre-race carbo loading.

If we had “smaller plates” and used a small salad bowl like in the fifties, we’d choose some fish or meat, a definitely low carb vegetable and two teaspoons of sweet potatoes. Dessert used to be TINY! We have TOO MUCH OF EVERYTHING AND WE NO LONGER EAT AS A FAMILY.
Stress eating used to be a bad thing.
At over 65 I’m eating less, say 850 calories per day but my activity is gardening.
Unfortunately I have cardiomyopathy after being sprayed with Aldicarb.
People don’t know how to wait for ANYTHING least of all food.

I started just doing low carb for 7 months, which was huge improvement for my blood sugars. Then I took it then next step to keto, adding in more fats, and fasting 18 hours. My overnight fasting glucose is 95 ish, After meals I spike to 122 ish. I walk after meals. I skip breakfast. I'm off my insulin and diabetes meds. With keto more of the weight seems to be coming off.. I started around 204lbs now at 173. My goal is 165lbs and 1 more inch off my stomach. Also my blood pressure is much better (normal), but still taking my b pressure meds for now. I'll have to try stopping them and see what happens. My main goal is to get rid of fatty liver(ct scan), and control diabetes though diet alone.

I'm convinced I'm on the right track. I want off the meds and let my body heal. I hope it will re-build. I'm 76. I had a heart attack at age 55! I have heart disease, kidney disease stage 3, and emphysema. For 55 yrs I was athletic but I smoked ate basically meat & potatoes, lots of ice cream, smoked and liked more then a cpl beers! That all ended 21 yrs ago. I'm tired of B/P pills, avorstatins, Isosorbide, & Metopal. // My B/P on lisinipril goes 200/100 then down to 88/45! I quit taking Lisinipril 10MG twice a day. After a week the spikes in B/P weren't as severe. I quit Montopol also. Last night I said no more Advostatin! // I quit eating carbs. I'm eating meat, fish and stews made from fresh veggies and going to make raw smoothies. Also I drink 3 qrts of water a day mixed with 1/2 oz of vinegar & same lemon juice // Any advise? I went from 200lbs to 160 over 2yrs!

Well done for taking control of your life! Not being medically trained, the only thing I would be able to suggest is - be careful with the smoothies (depending on what you put in them, of course) and avoid juicing because it removes most of the potentially benefits and the remaining liquid is much too quickly converted to glucose once it's drunk...

@@chuckkady7282 I'm drinking water with fresh lemon juice and apple cider vinegar too. But, Omega 3 Fatty Acids are the detergent of the blood. It's sometimes hard to eat that much fish, but you can't go wrong with 1 teaspoon of Icelandic Virgin Cod Liver Oil daily. It fullfills your entire daily requirement for Omega 3's. I'm healing an ulcerated wound on my ankle that I've had for 7 years. It's almost gone now. Gave up sugar, grains and seed oils in Jan 2021 and I'm down 80 pounds as of Dec 2021. I'm not on any prescription medications and I'm 63. However, I was addicted to carbs, fat and pre-diabetic for years. I found that all you have to do is give up Processed Foods and Alcohol. Good luck. PS I never was addicted to soda and I gave up diet soda more than 20 years ago.
I’m 81 & ketovore since my seventies . I’m off all meds and have reversed my diabetes2 within the first month of being carnivore & using dr Ken Berry/ you tube as my primary Go To for reference and support. My daily carb intake is under 10, but I’m also constantly mindful of avoiding acting cultish.🫶
I eat the same. Black coffee early, first meal around 1:00. Basically carnivore but I eat kimchee every night, as well as an avocado along with grass finished beef or lamb.
Less you eat, better you are off. Great advise!

I do fast for 16 hours at a time, 3 or 4 times a week because ill be working all day on our show. BUT when i eat dinner on those days, i swear i eat 3000 calories! I go crazy! 😩
I watch my carbs but I'm not giving up my sweet potatoes or pasta once in awhile or lentils ..I don't like meat or chicken...but I eat meat once a month.i count my carbs every meal..I intermittent fast...hours of fasting...I skip meals...I make most of my own food from scratch...I don't think eating eggs all the time is healthy but that is me...I excercise...
I think we all need to find what works for us. One size doesn’t fit all. A lot can be achieved just by cutting out processed food and added sugar!

A great conversation - my takeaway is - if you want to be lean be a fat burner, if you want to burn fat, eat fat, mainly, eat once a day. Don’t be rigid, but when you fall of the wagon you will pay the price. Once your sorted as a once a day eater and a fat burner you’ll feel better. Eat quality fats, certainly not man made oils.

What about those with Hypothyrodism? Keto is fine, but all the cabbage family (including broccoli) are bad for those of us who are hypo, I did a three month keto diet - super strict only eating cabbage family veg - to get rid of candida, which worked, but my thyroid blood work went through the floor. All other veg are basically just sugar.

As for carbs, when I have tracked it's approximately 120 grams
Back then fat was apx 60% and protein and carbs apx 20% each.

The research by Dr Donald Layman swayed me into ditching OMAD in favour of at eating 2MAD at the very least as resistance training is now being under taken.
Calories are BS ... 1000 CALORIES of broccoli vs 1000 calories of sugar... think about it. It is the poorest system of measure we encounter daily

I have been using 100% grass fed Whey protein (Level Performance Provision's) Vanilla Cinnamon best protein ever, and multi collagen peptides. Lemons are good also with the collagen. But it makes fasting, way easier, But the superfood of all is extra virgin unrefined coconut oil in my daily 2 cups of coffee. I perfer it over MCT oil, it does not upset my stomach. Loss 1.5 pounds over night. That day I lifted heavy weights 2 times, 6am fasted workout, then back at 10 am to work other areas, plus a ton of walking. Then I rest from weights 2 days. Works well, making serious gain's. had 5 protein shakes. One meal, macadamia nuts, garlic stuffted olives, avocado, grass fed cheddar from Ireland. Some grass fed milk. 2 organic honey crisp apples, a whole banana, almond butter, some extra virgin olive oil, and some organic blueberries. I feel great waking up, I was peeing all day, I had so much water.
I added butter to MCT oil in my coffee , no issues. I also had a meal before.

Kraft buying Primal is the same as the tobacco industry buying into the vape industry. They know what they made their fortune on is about to come crashing down.
His products are too expensive. Its just as easy to make your own avocado mayonnaise and salad dressings yourself at a fraction of the cost.
You can maintain keto by yourself, but there people who don't want to invest their time in cooking.
I personally cook at home, I don't buy any branded "keto" products. Just buy fresh meat, fish, green veg.
But I understand that there will always be people who just are not in the cooking.
I agree with that, but I gotta say, I don’t like making mayo and would prefer a healthy brand from the grocery store. Not like I use a huge amount of it through the course of the year. Maybe 8 times a year I mix up a can of tuna.

I learned so much here. I've decided to try Keto to move some belly fat
I love to juice and have used small amounts of healthy fats. But I started eating bagels about 6 months ago and did it for 2 months. Belly fat is the result....The high fat nature of Keto goes against my long-term dietary habits. However I understand the science and am now testing in on myself.
Just stick to good Fats, and you should be fine.
Quality animal flesh and eggs (Grass Fed, Pasture Raised of course).
Grass Fed organic beef tallow or lamp drippings.
Grass Fed butter or ghee.
Coconut, avocado, walnut or macadamia oil, and especially a good quality EVOO (see the Olive Oil hunter's website).
Organic nuts (activated preferably) and seeds like chia, flax & pumpkin.
Have at least half an avocado most days.
Include some fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut or kimchi, and make sure to consume plenty of cruciferous veggies, and you have the basis of a great diet.
If you can do dairy, stick to hard aged cheeses like parmaggiano reggiano or pecorino (sheep milk cheese), and try A2 milk or even raw milk if you can get it.
I don't care what any Plant Based zealot says, the above kills their shitty deficient diet.

Most Drs don’t even look at it. They only focus on blood sugar.
Dig deeper - not enough fibre and too much-processed food. The root is a healthy microbiome.

what about going on an all raw foods diet with focus on raw meat, raw fruits (high glycemic index), no grains, high fat? i have tried raw vegan, carnivore, keto... i figured they all had good aspects to me but none of them worked sustainably for me... why? cooked meat messes up my digstion. i sleep awful on too much of cooked meats. eggs will be ok and so are avocados. pegan was not what i liked because of all the greens..but i realized that raw meat and fish were perfectly fine for me... no digestive issues then and much higher energy levels and improved sleep. High raw vegan got me very skinny but also loosing muscles and not just bodyfat... i felt weak after years of vegan/rawvegan which is why i went pegan, then keto and then carnivore. but honestly i believe some sugars are not a problem to the body. bananas got me very lean and happy and i could go with only 4hrs of sleep while on a high raw vegan diet for a long time eating up to 20 bananas a day!!!. which is why i assume the body does not have any effort to digest all the bananas. i believe it is all about speeding up metabolism, depite eating sugar or not. for me raw meat, avocados and raw sweet fruits speed up my metabolism and give me a great feeling. this is why i am now checking out an all raw diet!!! i am very convinced that this is the right way now for myself...! i don´t need kale, cabbage, peas, mushrooms and salads. my body wants fat from meats and avocados, easily digested animal protein and sugar from tropic sunriped fruits

May of 2014, I read Jonny Bowden's LIving Low Carb which led me to the _Primal Blueprint_. Since then, I have shed many ailments including hypothyroidism, pre-diabetes and slowed the progression of my blinding disease. I have also gone from 230 lbs to 190 lbs.
