I'm surprised they don't have a series that shows you the most common situations you'd use these in. Or a series that shows us the most extreme situations these knives have gone through. They seem to be an invaluable tool to own.
Seems like there is a 'gap' as to how the tools were initially designed and how they are most commonly used by owners. Take the hook for example....never really seen a factory explanation on how to use it. The steel used is soft.....so only light use of the tools will preserve the knife. Other multitools have more durable attachments. Still, nothing draws the eye like a red Swiss gadget tool. I've been collecting these since the '70s. I have all of them with almost zero loss.....but you have to baby them a bit. Or, just consider them sacrificial in an emergency.
@@TheReal1953Rumor has it that the hook can withstand a weight of 250 Lbs before failure. I don't know how accurate that is, but considering the quality of Victorinox knives, I think it may be possible.

When considering gadget folders like these....think about the width and the weight carrying in your pocket. Do you really want a heavy tool in your pocket against your leg that you're constantly aware of? Sure, you can use a sheath but believe it or not, people will judge you as having lower status with a sheath tool on your belt.
@@TheReal1953 Hahahahha well having it in my pocket was never an option anyway. I keep it in a handbag most of the time (I got the champ). Haven't had to use it much but it did come in handy a bunch of times
@@lauran.7687 Well, I would think gals wearing pants would have the same problem with the size/weight of the multi-tool folder....lol. As an electrician that does strictly remodels this is an absolute essential tool. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI Being able to precision cut any material with a light weight tool is priceless.I upgraded to this Dewalt 20v from a competitor's 12v. The Dewalt 20v is just as light as the competitor's 12v. I am extremely pleased with the overall performance and battery life of this tool. As far as oscillators go, they just aren't very ergonomic tools. The dewalt oscillators have an offset handle that do make them somewhat more ergonomic than the competitors' oscillators.

Fold out the corkscrew or phillips screwdriver, you'll see a small hole in the plastic handle near the hinge of most models... but not all models actually come with a pin so you may have to provide your own.
Most common use are 3 tools: of course knife, corkscrew, bottle opener. That is why my favor Ranger Grip 2 layers 130mm and Waiter 84mm. For everything else I prefer Leatherman, sorry Victorinox lovers :)
I have a "15 function" one. How do I know it's genuine, and not a bootleg? The thing going for it is that it sat in a non climate controlled trailer thing for years, and is mostly just stiff with a bit of corrosion. Meanwhile, my Dollar Tree special sat in a car and got a "nice" corrosion patina on 75% of it.
