Great tips! Mine always drapes over the pot so it had me worried. I guess they don't stand tall like my calatheas. Good to know. Take care! 🪴 🙂

I purchased the only Maranta that Lowes had at the time that I was out plant shopping. It was a Lemon Lime which is lovely but I had wanted a Red Maranta. I used tap water on it at first until I heard that they don’t like. I later started giving it distilled water but didn’t like the idea of giving it water that had zero minerals in it so I began giving it Aquafina purified bottled water and it has done wonderfully with it. I had not yet figured out what fertilizer to use. This plant has zero brown tips or crinkling. (There are two leaves that have two big bites taken out of them because I was cleaning and moved the planter down near the floor and my cat thought that it was a great treat for her. She loved it!) Anyway, the plant has recovered beautifully and puts out leaves almost constantly.
I did finally find a red Maranta and decided on using worm castings as fertilizer. They seem to love that as
They definitely do not like hard water, I have seen the results on the plants of others. They apparently cannot tolerate an overload of minerals. I believe that it is also the chlorine and the fluoride in tap water that they have a difficult time with.
My two Mantras are about four feet from a southern exposure window and about the same distance from shelves with grow lights; so they get what some call indirect bright light. They get the bright light throughout the morning hours and have some light from the grow lights the rest of the day but nothing direct. Probably all of these plants have their peculiarities. I do believe that they do not like great change in their environment so if you have to change things around you might consider attempting to do the change gradually….like just a few hours a day at first.
I have other tropical plants that I managed to kill off. Then I decided to take growing house plants successfully. That was a change! I finally took the time to figure out what they were supposed to like. Tropical plants are a bit different than other types of plants. I was used to growing succulents. If you really want the tropicals to be prosperous plants in your home you have to pamper them and give in to their whims. It is well worth it though if you love that look. They don’t need a lot of pampering. They just need to live in a way that is somewhat like their natural environment….shouldn’t we all!

Thanks for sharing your experience with your marantas, Ellie! I’m happy after all that you were able to finally find the red version, I’ve actually never seen that one in person weirdly enough. Thanks for sharing your tips 😊

I have red and lemon lime and lemon lime is definitely my favorite. I put mine in DIY pon and so far absolutely loving it. I have them in my bedroom where I keep a humidifier going and I bought a water distiller. Best purchase ever I go through a gallon or 2 a day between my humidifier and watering. I have a lot of calathea, too. On the other end, I also have a huge succulent collection.

Thanks for the care tip vid. I love them all, and really all of the calathea family! I currently care for two ver in the Marantaceae family, a standard red veined ver, and a very interesting variegated green (bunny tracks) ver that has splashes of cream randomly on the leaves. My next well be lemon lime like the one depicted here. I have found them to be very easy to care for and have had no hard water issues despite using deep well tap water. I thank it's the chlorine and traces of fluoride found in the city water sources that burns their leaves. So folks that live out away from the cities like myself on well water should be fine using there tap water.

Hi! Glad you enjoyed it. I totally agree with the water thing! I use to live up north with the freshest water from a well. Miss that! City water has so much junk in it 🙈

They have these at my local grocery store, and I almost bought one but figured I. Better do a bit of research first. Good thing I didn't, they deff seem a bit difficult for me being a brand new plant mom. I'd want to have a humidifier and maybe a grow light

They are a little picky and need a bit more attention than a beginner plant, but they are easy enough that if you wanted to start collecting more harder plants this would be a good leap into that category 🌿

What kind of grow lights you use? I put mine under sansi 24w m, more than a meter in distance and it got burnt 😮 I don't have much natural light, and my maranta doesn't look happy or healthy 😞

Just got one 😊 Would bottled well water be ok?

    • @BotanicalBrunette
      @BotanicalBrunette  Рік тому

As long as it’s filtered it should be fine. If you start to notice your maranta declining try to leave the water opened overnight. This can release anything in the water the plant may not like. Basically making distilled water. Hope that helps 😊

I almost lost mine from not giving it enough water now I've figured that out but it not growing. I did fertilizer it about a month ago but that hasn't helped it's under lights also. Is there anything I'm missing?

Doesn’t sound like it. Sometimes mine stops growing for a little while for some reason and then starts growing again. Have you had it long?

I’ll usually water with distilled (or filtered) water once every 6-8 days. Just make sure you check the soil before you water

There is a mistake here! The prayer plants colled like that due to another reason. Exactly to care routine. All you need to do is watering, feeding ,provide a good soil and pray they not die the same day you buy it.
