Hi friends - A reminder that BLACK LIVES MATTER! It’s important to remember and consider BLM in all aspects of your life, including your plant hobby! I’ve created a doc that specifically considers ways to support BLM in the plant community. This is created by me, a white woman, mostly for non Black people (but all are welcome to peruse). This is an ever-changing doc and I welcome all questions/concerns/recommendations in my IG dms (@goodandplanti). The doc: bit.ly/2CrEzoA
I threw my little one on a shelf under my turtle tank under a south window, it gets humidity from the tank and light from my turtle’s basking light during the day!
So my I am trying to grow The Maranta for the 2nd time. The first one died from over watering. I found that the soil mix is very important. As it likes to stay moist and not wet, I am having success with peat moss and perlite. I guess it's working because the propagation I took ( had two leaves) is starting to push out a new leaf after almost two months! I found that they do better in either ceramic or plastic pots/containers. Loves humidity. Mine is in a 3' inch nursery pot, sitting in a cash ceramic pot. Low light, near North facing window. I have a Sansi light maybe one foot away. Also, only use distilled water.
One of my favorite plants, they do not tolerate chlorinated water though and will get crispy tips on the leaves. Since I have started watering with unchlorinated water, the crisp tips are no longer a problem. Also, I took all of the old Crisp tips and propagated them, rather than just removing the leaves and discarding them.
I live in Arizona, so my conditions are a bit different so I let mine hit around 3-4 on the moisture meter, my Rabit tracks is in a north bedroom and my red in an east, I don't use a humidifier in the summer, I do in December and January while we are using the heater. I've been using bottled drinking water, and so far no crispy tips but for the original leaves.
Could you make a ficus elastica (rubber plant) guide, I've been lucky with my other plants but my rubber plants just won't grow very quick :( love the videos
Hey Kat, love your videos, I'm relatively new to indoor plants and you're my teacher at this point 😊 I have a question, would a grow light 2 - 3 ft above Prayer Plants be considered direct light?? I have new growth but the older leaves seem to be quite a lot lighter than the new ones......do you think it is too much light?
Great video thanks - just another question - I've noticed that my marantas become very "droopy" usually in the mid afternoon. They almost look like someone sat on them. They seem to perk back up after I water them. But this happens every day almost, is that normal? Having to water them that frequently/daily?
Good video, I just got three variations of Maranta. I was wondering why leaves were turning yellow, guess I over watered. I used to know the name but what is the plant just over your right shoulder? I like the look of it. Thanks
Thanks for this care guide. I just bought one because Home Depot had some huge hanging pots of the Lemon Lime for $12. She beautiful but I’m afraid I might lose her if I don’t get my humidity right.
wow that is a great deal! you'll do great. if your leaves start crisping, that's probably a sign she will need more humidity. however, i have 1 of my marantas in low humidity and she isn't crisping yet!
This video could not have come at a better time! My maranta is taking a nose dive so thank you! How's your puppy doing? He looks like he's doing great!
Oh no! I hope this video could help a little. Wishing your maranta a speedy recovery 🥰 Thanks so much for asking about Meek!! He is doing SO much better and is probably like 80% back to doing normal doggy stuff!
this video is so helpful! i have two marantas at home but one has very droopy leaves, i don't really know why so if you would know i would very much appreciate it!
Hi! Amazing video, very informative and to the point. What kind of watering system do you use? Bottom watering or water pouring? Also, would you recommend spraying it with water to increase humidity? I hear they don’t like having water on their leaves.
Hey Kat, I see you have an Alocasia Polly. I just got one and when I put it outside , it was shaded and maybe some morning sun it got some yellow spots soon after. Any idea why? It’d be awesome if you do a video on them!
hi, dalia! ooo i would love to do an alocasia polly video - i'll put that in my video idea list. as for your alocasia, it might be the humidity if you live in a dry area. they love and need humidity! it also might be pests but my best guess is humidity.
Can we talk about the flowers? I'm new to my red maranta and I'm experiencing my flowers drying up super quickly while the leaves stay healthy. Watering 1-2 times a week.

My Baby Leaf Is Growing A Yellow Leaf & I Use Distilled Water, I Use Warm Water For My Humidifier & Still Nothing. Is It Because I Am Growing A New Leaf.? I Have One Growing Out
I have a question🤚! So I got one like 2 weeks ago that was really wt when it came in and I was worried :/. But i wanted to just wait till it dried out. And one leaf turned yellow and i cut it off and i see like 1 more mabey 2 turning yellow!! I checked the soil and its still moist but not wet and its very compact! What should i do should i leave it or should i repot with a more well draning mix and take that soil out!?!
Thank you for sharing! I have the Maranta leuconeura. It makes my heart smile to look at it because it reminds me of my grandmother. How many hours a day and what time of day do you run your humidifier?

Can you tell me what that huge plant is behind you opposite the Monstera? Also, is there a video on that one?
@@TashaSmilesDaily not OP, but that’s a philodendron selloum!
Wow! Do you even know what blm has done and what they're about!? The ignorance is definitely strong with this one.
Not listening as don’t support BLM in any way!!!
Thank you for your inclusion as we integrate back to our planting and gardening roots
Marantas are one of the most vigorous growers when they receive proper care. The cutting I took rooted even faster than my Pothos!
I appreciate the way you are real with everything. Not overly edited and if you don’t know how to say something, it’s ok.
thank you daniel!

Yours is a beauty and I commend you for no crispy tips!! Mine is the same way I’ve maybe fertilized it once and it has grown like crazy regardless
i was so surprised with how fast it's growing! definitely a new favorite for me!
YAY! You are famous queen! ps the lighting looks immaculate in this video
LMAO thank you, thank you 💁🏻♀️👑
We love the repotting addition to the soil knowledge!
why thank you!!!😌
What would you say on the meter would you recommend watering?
You are great. You teach so well and your dog is adorable. Thank you. Can't wait to get a prayer plant
Could you make a ficus elastica (rubber plant) guide, I've been lucky with my other plants but my rubber plants just won't grow very quick :( love the videos
Try cutting the top leaves off
Hey Kat, I have a question. Do you know why my maranta´s leaves are curling up?
My M. leuconeura kerchoveana has been giving me grief lately so this video has come at a great time! Thank you! 😊
i'm so glad i could help! i hope your maranta bounces back soon 💚

New growth is usually in a lighter colour than the rest of the leaves! It will get darker over time :)

Im new to this but dont they lift and fall like praying hands based on rhythm?daily?

Great informative video thank you so very much for this. I just purchased a huge prayer plant that I am propagating from. Fingers crossed!

Hi! Amazing video, very informative and to the point. What kind of watering system do you use? Bottom watering or water pouring? Also, would you recommend spraying it with water to increase humidity? I hear they don’t like having water on their leaves.
I've had mine for three months and i keep it in my kitchen. I use bottom watering and I rarely spray it because it gets a lot od humidity while i cook
Hi! Do you bottom water or top water these type of plants? I just got one & im so scared of it lol
Hey Kat, I see you have an Alocasia Polly. I just got one and when I put it outside , it was shaded and maybe some morning sun it got some yellow spots soon after. Any idea why? It’d be awesome if you do a video on them!

oh! and they also love distilled or rain water. tap water might also cause yellow spots.
Can we talk about the flowers? I'm new to my red maranta and I'm experiencing my flowers drying up super quickly while the leaves stay healthy. Watering 1-2 times a week.
Mine closes during the day and opens towards the night……. Should I be putting it towards the light?
New plant friend here! Thanks for this. I cannot keep a Maranta alive. But i wanna try again soon. Try and try, they say. 🤣😊
thanks for watching! you can do it!! each plant is just a learning experience 😊
Same here i am also trying again 😄
Great tips but 1 more use rainwater or tap water with API water conditioner cause heavy metals in tap water kill the leaves & roots etc

I just bought a huge prayer plant and paranoid I’m gonna kill it! Thank you for the tips!!
Why yellow leaves of prayer plants
could be for a couple reasons! lack of humidity, lack of water, or even using the wrong type of water.
My Baby Leaf Is Growing A Yellow Leaf & I Use Distilled Water, I Use Warm Water For My Humidifier & Still Nothing. Is It Because I Am Growing A New Leaf.? I Have One Growing Out
