You need more subs! I just found you on the notching video and you're the most realistic plant parent I've found! I use well water simply BC of budget but it is tested and safe for human consumption and I drink it everyday, so do my pets including the birds. I'm hoping it's ok for my calathea and my alocasia, it's been good for my other plants for years.
Agreed. Says it like it is. Love the honesty and I appreciate the practical and intelligent assessments made. One of my favourite dude in the planty UA-cam department.
Can you actually divide the roots and make two plants out of one like the marant has I think is what you call them the big wide white lines in it I got me one at Kroger's and I was just wondering cuz it looks like it's a pretty good-sized plant for the pop that they've got it again
the type of water is very important but if your water comes from a well, normally it is very fine, same for rain water (though in a big city it can be slightly polluted). If you don't have a well like me, it is better to put one or two drops of product for aquarium and fish in the water (they are many brands on Amazon or in aquarium retailers like API). It removes chlorine or chloramine and all bad stuff. Since I have been doing that the situation of my calatheas has improved. Those plants doesn't like to be moved also, I have killed a two years marantha by doing this ! Last thing : calathea makoyana are beautiful and very strong, that's the only one that never have any issues in my house.
I use water conditioner (typically for fishtank water conditioning) in all my water before watering my plants. My calathia stopped crusting up instantly. It's another option asside from distilled water. It was $3 on amazon. I use a dropper to drip the conditioner into my watering can.
I just started using water conditioner myself. I’ve always filtered my water, but for some plant that alone is not enough. We have very hard water where I live.
I started using a water conditioner too & I have well water. My plants look so much better. Faster rooting on my props, older plants brighter. Oh, but my prayer plants get distilled water
I don’t usually leave comments. I have watched hours of videos on Calatheas trying to keep mine, especially that Orbifolia! I commend you on this video! It is the BEST and most comprehensive video on this subject I have watched. You information on watering and humidity was SO on point! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I love calatheas and I've taken care of them for years. In that time though I've realized that my home environment isn't suited for particular ones, especially if they have a velvety feel. The one that's not velvety but i struggle with is the green back orbifolia, the red one is much easier to care for.
I personally love that you mention and add links to relevant videos! It lets me know that you have it so I can watch it next! As a fairly new obsessed plant parent, I’ve ran into watering issues, pests, and diseases. You have a way of explaining and visually showing us what to look for, differences, and solutions better than any other videos that I’ve found so far! THANK YOU! My triostar stromanthe just got out of quarantine from spider mites! And my rattle snake has been down to 5 leaves for 6 months now BUT he has just started pushing ups new one!! I’m glad I didn’t give up on him!!
Cool informative video watching from Australia I've been enjoying my Calatheas for month and living in a subtropical tropical climate in the east coast of Australia, prayer plants are an obvious option as they grow fast and display amazing foliage. Look forward to the seasonal changes and flowering etc. Great video cheers
Love this video, thank you! Plants also grow really well with aquarium water. It's fertilized, and is dechlorinated. If you don't have aquariums, getting something to dechlorinate the water in an aquarium can also be used for watering plants:)
I must have the oddball. My rabbit track prayer plant is my first adventure to keeping plants alive as I was responsible for it, and a few others, in our office. I did bring it home when we shut down for covid as it's my favorite, and since new owner isn't a plant person, it's stayed here. Mine dies back in the late spring, not winter. Right now it still has a bunch of flowers on it and it's been blooming since probably...late July/August? Last year it died back and was SUPER slow to come back, so I decided to transplant it. Good thing as it was root bound. Happy as a lark and so am I -- 8 years caring for it and going strong! Yay!
I've only very recently started getting into calatheas. At first I had no idea how truly temperamental they can be. I found out the hard way but have resolved a lot of the problems through watching informative you tube videos, and I've seen a lot! I must say your videos are heads and shoulders above anything else I have seen. They cover every aspect of care. Kudos to you.
14:27 here’s a suggestion I have small a cement birdbath inside from outside, and I put a bubbler fountain 2.5 watt (Amazon ) I weight it down with glass marbles…puts a little humidity in the air! Also serves as the cat fountain lol… it’s only about 2 feet tall salad summer so they can’t take it over but I keep filtered water from the fridge in it daily. Calathea Medallion is in east on a table not far from the fountain.
Great video! Very informative and I love your personality 💚 I like when youtubers put the links to their related videos down below (easy access). I just subscribed!
We typically wipe down our plants at least once or twice a month. A damp microfiber cloth works great or taking a lint roller and using that on the fronts and reverse sides of the plants with bigger leaves. Plus, doing this will pick the dust and any tiny little critters.
That what I think is my plant problem is root rot smh. I repotted it and I’m going to see if it gets better. I use rain and distilled water I am very happy I found you. Thanks!
This is my first time here and I love your channel! You've given me some very valuable information on my prayer plants. Im a never prayer plant parents and im determine to give them the best life possible! So far so good.❤
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you talk about Calathea’s and I have just brought a Maranta which is stunning and seems very well as it has new leaves and has had flowers too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
It's funny this video pops up. My wife Mom over watered her Rattle Snake Calethea while we were out of town for a few days, and the plant honestly looked so sad when we got home. She wanted to toss the plant out, and I took it upon myself to rescue it, and it came back, but mind you, it took a good 8 months. We also uppotted it, and it's doing quite well. I will admit that these plants can be a bit dramatic and / or fussy but once you figure it out, they're awesome plants. Our Maranta Plants stay in our upper level on a north facing window sill, and our Ctenanthe lives in our bathroom, which has a skylight and a frosted window. Soon, I want to take some cuttings and grow those and resell them.
I got 3 brought home from my husband's work he gets to bring home things that don't sell or plants that are dying... 2 died I have one left and it's so so it's not dying but it's not thriving 😢 thank you for the vedio. This plant has been the hardest si far. And I have saved many types of plants from dying and making them thrive..
You are so full of knowledge. I love your videos. I just saved all of the videos you pinned below and it’s going to be an aloha plant kind of day. Btw, my orbafolia is doing amazing in my bedroom (not my plant room) and I don’t have a humidifier in there. I have a bit of crispy edges and for sure it’s because I under-watered it a few time. She my favourite and so so showy It’s I a east window and thriving.
Having seen multiple Calathea care videos over the years, i wish i could have discovered you sooner because I think yours is by far the most detail-oriented and extensive, thank you!! Your channel seems super informative and relatable! As for me, I have had calathea orbifollia for about 2 years, (it was actually my first plant ever, sold on the idea that it is super easy to take care of by a plant shop 🙃). It has always struggled a bit, but recently, almost all of its leaves have turned pale yellow, crisp all over, and brown… it feels like it’s being attacked from all corners! Maybe it’s that one time of giving it tap water (I live in Europe), maybe it’s lack of sun from its usual place or the cold… never have replanted it btw so maybe the soil is deleted… I’m struggling to keep it alive😢, maybe it’s finally at the point of no return… but anyways, I’ll def. use your video to guide me through the process. You’re quickly turning into one of my fave plant UA-camr!! 😊
Just got a calathea pinstripe today AND a stromanthe🙏. I also have a rattlesnake and orbifolia. I also received my lemon lime prayer plant too today. It's beautiful. All of them are beautiful..❤️😍
I just got a ctenanthe and it’s doing really good! For the water part I’ve been using some water conditioner for like fish tanks in a gallon of water and leaving it uncapped for 24 hours before I use it. It seems to like that lol.
You're the first video talking about stunt growth and small leaves in maranta's, which I think a lot of care videos/posts don't cover, even though I see many people asking about them on reddit quite often. Thanks!
They are absolutely beautiful.. 😍 Calathea are my absolute favorite.. Nothing can beat them when it comes to beauty and foliage.. Though they are little finicky and they don't love me that much.. 🙃😁 But I'm learning gradually how to keep them happy.. Thanks for sharing.. Really appreciate it..
Good video. I find consistency is the key with these plants especially watering but some varieties have different needs. My orbifolia likes to dry out more and prefers low light. My triostar needs more light to produce the beautiful white variegation. I use fish tank water for mine. I’ve never had spider mites but took almost a year to eliminate thrips on my calathea.
I started using drops for aquarium that make the water safe. It's helped a lot! I only have one calathea but I also use that water on my spiderplants. Really saw a difference in those pesky brown tips there!
Thank you for this video! I've had a red maranta and I'm hoping to help her thrive. She sits actually in a south-facing window and has put out a TON of new leaves! I will admit that the window actually gets less light in summer than it does in winter since the sun passes quite high over it, so maybe I'll move her for fall/winter (I got her late April). I also give her tap water and she's been doing fine. I think I'll switch her to a self-watering system to see how she does with that. Thank you again!
Thank you so much for this video! I have wanted a Calathea for forever, but heard so many times how difficult they are to take care of and decided to not get one because I didn't want to kill it. I am now going to buy a Rattlesnake Calathea! Thank you! 🥰
Girl thank you soooo much 😩 you’ve saved me from more headache and heartache thinking I’ve killed these plants lol. Thought the prayers were too heavy 🤣
I have a Freddie/Freddy and a Ctenathe, and it is very easy to see when they are thirsty: their leaves curl. But the Orbifolia has been giving me a headache. The backside of the leaves has turned brown...even though the frontside is still green. BUT the last to waterings I used rainwater bc I collected it for my carnivorous too. And I just noticed a new stem emerging AND part of the back of the leaves are starting to turn green again 👏🏻. I don’t want to use distilled water bc it takes so many resources to produce that. If I don’t have enough rainwater, I will use demineralized water.
I am currently struggling with my green Maranta Leuconeura. It has faded and lost leaves and just sad looking. It was repotted into a pot that was too big and over watered (by me ☹ ) so I repotted it into a smaller pot. Now I am waiting to see what else to do. I had it in an east facing window and I think it was too much light so I moved it back a bit. This video was very good for me to troubleshoot what could be wrong with my plant. Thank you for the extensive information. Your videos are more informative than a lot of others I have watched. 😊
Im going to start melting snow for my calethea, i allready gave her a humidifyer and ordered a growlight! The thing im struggling with is keeping my house above 18c temp wise, Its rly cold in norway right now and I hope my plants can cope
I'm so glad you said they can die back a ton. I thought I'd killed my plant over the last few years through multiple moves and very inconsistent care. It had died back SO much but it's putting out some tentative new growth now and I'm hopeful! But I am worried, there's some whitish fuzz on the top of the soil and I'm not sure what to do
Sounds like it could be mold on top of the soil. Just remember when it has hardly any leaves it won’t need watering as often as it used to. You can treat the mold on top of the soil by spraying it with a copper fungicide spray.
@@AlohaPlantLife thank you so much! Yeah I noticed it was still very moist from a watering a few Weeks ago. I ended up scooping out as much of the mold as I could and realized it was really thriving on all of the old dead bits that were leftover at soil level. So I tried to really gently remove some of that without disturbing any of the new growth. Hopefully I didn't do too much. I put it up out of my reach to let it deal with the rest of the moisture it's got. Poor thing. I'll order some fungicide cause I'm sure I didn't eliminate the fungus completely. Also I just finally got my hands on a pilea involucrata and it's Gorgeous, do you have a video on them?
Great video. So many great tips. I got my orbifiola few years ago and made loads of mistakes because of misinformation on internet. I wish I found this channel earlier. You mentioned that the north facing window should have enough light for some of them. I'm thinking of placing my new calethea rattlesnake there. My fern phlebobium loves it so I thought that calethea may like similar light conditions?
If you have a really good reverse osmosis system, with multiple filters and all that, supposedly the difference between that and the distilled water you buy at the store is that the reverse osmosis system leaves in some minerals after removing all the pollutants. For drinking, some people say these good minerals make the RO water healthier and/or taste better, but how do prayer plants feel about this?
I'm watching this again and wondered about rain water not being an option? I know the severe drought this year made rain water a luxury but...now with then abundance, am using it for all my houseplants. I really appreciate your links to your other related videos!! Please keep putting those up...Thank you.
As a new plant parent, the first two plants I was drawn to after seeing them online were Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’ and Stromanthe tricolor. I’ve done really well with the Ficus, but I got a very sad-looking Stromanthe from a big box store and I’m not sure if I’m improved things for it or not. I guess time will tell.
If it was already sad looking when you got it, just be patient and follow my care tips. Big box stores have a tendency to overwater plants, did you check the roots to make sure the plant doesn’t have the start of root rot? That’s always my biggest concern when someone tells me a plant they got at a big box store isn’t doing well.
I have 6prayer plants in low light and they are throwing out new leaves I love them I have divided my medallion and the one I divided and they are both growing throwing out new leaves
I have 5 prayer plants actually 4 different ones I separated one the leaves were turning brown I think the plant lights were to hot so turned plant lights down and far they are doing a lot better
Another comment 🤪, i was goven a bunch- 15😯- of Ctananthe cuttings. They all have rooted, a couple i have planted in soil. They seem to be well on their way.🙌
I resurrected 2 prayer plants by throwing them in my bathroom. It has 1 west window which has privacy film on it. I guess that was the ticket, now my concern is- its the coldest room. I'm afraid to take them out, they love it in there. I usually leave a heater on just to keep it warmish, trial & error, but they have come so far.
Thank you for yet another informative video. :) I can relate to the "need" to grab some sad looking plants, to give them some TLC! :) I saw some at my friend's house and gave her some tips to revive her plants, and now got her on a plantaholic mission! 😉
I love marantas/calathea, give me these guys over a pink princess any day 😅i have 10 and they do fine. Honestly i think a lot of the issues come from inconsistent watering. They hate drying out completely but they also don't want to sit in a puddle for days. I water little but fairly often. I use dehumidifier water to save me buying distilled water as £10 a week for a bottle of water seems a little steep.
Loved this video, I love my calatheas even the ones that turned on me lol. My pinstripe I lost slowly over the last few months fighting mealie bugs that took my setosa and then it gave me 2 new leaves. Then the leaves shriveled, one fell off but the other just stayed with just that bit if color just like your rattlesnake did lol. I got so frustrated at mine, I cut off the dead part and put the pot in the corner of my kitchen counter because I wasn’t ready to throw it away. Good thing I did that because almost a month later and a new leaf is popping up, I’m so happy 😁
Great timing for this video, thank you! I have a velvet calathea that is about 3' tall. Unfortunately I'm redoing my plant room & had to move all the plants into dining room for this. I watered thoroughly, but had my calathea somewhere I couldn't reach. After 2 weeks I moved everything out for a check & water & she was bone dry. All her leaves are laying down. The leaves look healthy, they're just horizontal 😔 will she be ok with some TLC? Her new room won't be ready for another 2 weeks.
@@AlohaPlantLife well thanks to your watering series of videos I gave her some major hydrotherapy. I loosely tied up her leaves (my thought was it would make it easier for her to uptake the water, no clue if true) gave her a thorough water, let her sit in it for a hour, let her rest over night. The next day her soil was dry again (still laying down), so I gave her another thorough watering. The next morning she bounced back! So thank you for all your advice, cause I used a lot of it!!!🥰👏❤️🪴
I live in the desert and my calatheas thrived until I moved. My air conditioning was broken for the first week in the new house in the heat of summer, so my Makoyana got burnt. It's around 4.5 ft tall, a huge plant, and now more than half the leaves are brown-tipped. Should I prune them all back and keep it pushing? New leaves are growing so it's not dead.
Hi there, I recently bought a Gray Star plant. On most of the back of the leaves it has clear light dots. I doubt it is bugs nor mold. They might be sensors? Do you have them on your praying plants? I just noticed it develops a honey or clear glue substance on those spots. It smears when I touch it. I don't see any bugs, mites, mold.
My calathea ornata (pink pinstripe) was lush and bushy and I repotted her after bottom watering and she literally looks like your almost dead one-leafer now. So sad! Do I put her with roots in a jar of water until spring or leave her unwatered for a month? She had fungal gnats which took over all of my 8 plants. I think I got rid of the gnats (I bottom watered all plants in hydrogen peroxide and dawn soap water then topped every plant’s soil with a layer of perlite)… but the ornata and Victoria birds nest and transcentia (wandering jew with pink striping) all look miserably bleak. I know there is root shock from repotting but between the cold Chicago windows, the gnats bring chased away by neem oil and the repotting… wondering what to do now. Let them be? Or take them out and put them in a jar of water without soil? 😩😫😣🤨
The best video on prayer plant care on youtube. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I had a very thriving beautiful maranta that seemed to get a few brown spots on the leaves, then it died back, and I don't understand it, even the cuttings I tried to salvage by putting in leca died but the roots still look white, any ideas?
@@AlohaPlantLife normally distilled but I am in florida and i had it outside under a canopy. we had a few weeks of humid rainy weather. I may have given it some rainwater. Alternatively I was thinking I had gone too long without watering it and pushed it into dormancy? or was worried the weather had spread a fungus like it seems to do. I'm going to keep it around and see what happens. oh and it was rootbound so up-potted it. its still got a few good leaves but its a far cry from the beauty that it was. Given thats its now september perhaps it went into dormancy thinking it was winter. I'm confused, but I'm going to wait and see. You've made me more aware of the importance of good water.
@@AlohaPlantLife yeah, that could be it too. What throws me is that even the cuttings died like it was a preprogrammed death or something. I wish I could figure out this plant lol. Checked today and it still has some leaves so fingers crossed. Thanks for replying. And good luck with your business! You'll be great at it! I'm raising some aroids too, the weather is good for that here. We have an aroid show here next weekend. My favorite suppliers are ecuagenera and Tropicals, lately I like Tropicals the best. They found a way to import without messing with the roots.
I have, over many years, tried Maranta, & they have always turned brown. I got a Ctenthe, but its leaves turned brown, until I pruned it back & it is doing better in my basement. I recently tried a Calathea, but it turned brown & shriveled up. The one exception is my "rattlesnake" Calathea, which has thrived for about 20 months in my bathroom. However, it has been re-classified to a different genus, Goeppertia insignis, which may be why it seems to tolerate somewhat lower humidity than Calathea. I use rain water & de-humidifier water for my house plants. About your Maranta with faded leaves, can too much light cause leaves to fade?
My question is how long does it usually take for the leaves to unfurl?Got my lemon lime about 3 weeks ago which had 3 leaves coming in but they’re still wrapped up. Wondering if they’re stuck.
I moved my 1.5 inch pot Maranta into a 3 inch terracotta. I can now see it's two vines in there and since moving it to slightly larger it's started to pray how it should and I've been getting 3 new leaves a week. I do have to water every couple of days but that's because it's terracotta and it's tiny, i would guess a full watering really only holds like a tablespoon (what doesn't come out the bottom). It seems happy though and so far haven't lost any leaves. I won't check on roots etc until the plant starts to act funny or if i start to look a lot of leaves. Now that i know it didn't pray, at all, in the too small pot that's a good sign for me to look for. I wouldn't say it was "root bound" in the traditional sense but those tiny pots simply don't have much room! I can't believe you're monstera was this small a year ago. It's huge now, and i thought it was big a year ago 🤣🤣🤣
You are extremely knowledgeable! Very useful tips! I just now received my first calathea (from a coffee shop where it was dying, till i asked them for it). Hopefully your info will help me revive it. Thanks
I was actually at a restaurant yesterday that had a bunch of very sad looking Aglaonema plants and I wanted to just grab all of them and make a run for it lol. Good luck with your plant!
I have a lemon one and it's not doing so well. At first I think it got too much direct sunlight - but otherwise the room is ideal (high humidity, warm). So I brought it downstairs to the living room where it would get medium light. But turns out it's too cold. Now the plant has some leaves that sre permanently closed and the rest do not close at all during the night. I'm gonna bring it back upstairs. I live in Nordic Europe, so the growing conditions are very different to most other world. Like during winter it's -20C and dry air. No sunlight (I have plant lights for this reason). However, come spring and summer the temperatures go up to 35C and the sun is up for approx 18hours a day (not joking btw). It's also extremely high on UV radiation because we are in the north so it doesn't shine high up in the sky but rather directly from the horizon. It's quite a hassle to keep these alive when the conditions go from one extreme to another every year.
@@AlohaPlantLife l have a grow light bulb in a lamp...but the Snake calathea along with a Lynette ??? Trying to learn what I have! They sit pretty close to the floor & the lamp is on a table. This is because they're near a heater because of this drafty room. Prayer Plant seems to enjoy it! But I don't want to ruin my 3rd Snake plant!! I love them!
@@joycekizer7124 Wait….is the prayer plant on the floor too? Trying to make sure I’m envisioning this correctly, ‘cause if the prayer plant is ok with the light level then the Calathea should be too
Thx so much. This is really great info! I am a newbie and keep in the master bathroom. So far so good. The people in the garden store told me, "you can't touch the leaves?" I see you touching the leaves and wonder Mmmm..? Is this wrong info?? Am off to get distilled water. I love these:) A plant lover from Colo
Many plant parents on UA-cam do say they manage with tab water.. I guess it depends on your water. If my marantha cant take it, we are not meant for each other. So far so good 🙂
Help! The nodes on my red maranta plant look like they’re drying out and becoming brown. I’ve “peeled” off or clipped some leaves that were dry but is there something you recommend? Thanks in advance! Loved your video
Certainly the best video on UA-cam which talks about the calatheas. I have one question Can we use the waste water coming out RO water purifier machine for calatheas?
A word of caution on well water - the mineral content in well water depends entirely on where you live. I live in southeast Wyoming, and a lot of our well water is hard as a rock! It is full of calcium and magnesium to the point it leaves hard water deposits on anything it comes into contact with for very long. Be aware of that. I do not use my well water to water any of my prayer plants. I go with distilled.
Thanks for the info! I just impulse-bought my first maranta today! It's in that dense big-box store soil. Should I really just leave it alone? When I do repot it eventually, should I still leave the soil alone and just put better soil around it? I'm not sure I've ever not repotted a big-box store plant immediately upon getting it home and removed all of the soil.
Honestly, I’ve got zero experience with this, but lots of people have live plants in their aquariums so that would lead me to believe that it is probably fine to use this to treat water for other types of plants as well.
New subscriber here 😊 I have a question about mine. Ive only had it a couple months & I know it’s not ready to be repotted, but it will be at some point. I recently bought some aroid mix, but it’s too fine for my climbers. Would it be ok to mix some of that in with regular potting soil to encourage better aeration & drainage. My brain says yes 🤷♀️
Hi great video!! I have a ctenanthe plant and it has been having leaves that have not opened for about a month now I’m not sure if it’s because of a lighting or watering issue? Thank you
Hi, as far as repotting, would you recommend repotting a new plant right away ? I just bought one from Home Depot a week ago in a 4in plastic container that’s inside a terra-cotta pot. There are a few thin roots coming through the bottom. Should I repot it into something a size up now ?
With new plants I typically only repot right away if they are in the incorrect type of soil or if I discover something bad like the start of root rot. Otherwise, I would probably give at least a month to acclimate to your home before repotting.
What do you think of hydrometers. I agree poking in the topsoil doesn’t make sense because I need to know whats going on around the roots. I’ve lost plants I liked due to root rot.
I don’t trust them because they work off of electrical conductivity and overtime things buildup in your soil that increase electrical conductivity, which can make them tell you that the soil is moist when it actually isn’t.
@@Susan-f5u I’ve actually been trying to work on devising an experiment I can film to show you all how various different things affect the readings, so hopefully I will be able to deliver that to you guys in the not too distant future

A smart and lovely person. Thanks for the "third of the container" watering tip. Makes a ton of sense regardless of plant variety.
I love calatheas and I've taken care of them for years. In that time though I've realized that my home environment isn't suited for particular ones, especially if they have a velvety feel. The one that's not velvety but i struggle with is the green back orbifolia, the red one is much easier to care for.

My triostar stromanthe just got out of quarantine from spider mites! And my rattle snake has been down to 5 leaves for 6 months now BUT he has just started pushing ups new one!! I’m glad I didn’t give up on him!!
Thank you, and yay! Exactly why I always say to never give up on them💚
Cool informative video watching from Australia
I've been enjoying my Calatheas for month and living in a subtropical tropical climate in the east coast of Australia, prayer plants are an obvious option as they grow fast and display amazing foliage.
You are absolutely right. I just started using water conditioner I bought from an aquarium store.
Congrats on the plant returning from the dead like Lazarus! Now if that doesn’t give us plant parents hope, I don’t know WHAT will!
Awe, thank you so much!💚
You’re the best , thank you ! All you’re plants are beautiful 🪴
Thank you so much!!
Bravo!!! Me too!!!
We typically wipe down our plants at least once or twice a month. A damp microfiber cloth works great or taking a lint roller and using that on the fronts and reverse sides of the plants with bigger leaves. Plus, doing this will pick the dust and any tiny little critters.
Love your videos you always give such good unformation
That what I think is my plant problem is root rot smh. I repotted it and I’m going to see if it gets better. I use rain and distilled water I am very happy I found you. Thanks!

Awesome! Thank you!💚
You explain things so so well. Thank you! It makes me a lot less anxious for my capability to keep these plants alive.
You can do it!
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you talk about Calathea’s and I have just brought a Maranta which is stunning and seems very well as it has new leaves and has had flowers too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
You are so welcome!💚
I couldn’t agree more💚
@AlohaPlantLife do you have a Video about the soil mix you mention?
I LOVE YOU. You just save my life! Thanks for share.
You are so welcome!💚
I would definitely check to see if it’s severely root bound and in need of a repot!
Thank you so much I am learning how to care for this beautiful plant 🌱 You are so informative!
By the way, your forest is beautiful.
Thank you and glad I could help!💚
Just got a calathea pinstripe today AND a stromanthe🙏. I also have a rattlesnake and orbifolia. I also received my lemon lime prayer plant too today. It's beautiful. All of them are beautiful..❤️😍
Very nice!
@@AlohaPlantLife thank you. Very nice yes BUT what a headache..😅😬
@@MaryHernandez-5909 You’ve got this! They’re not as hard as you think💚

Thanks!
You’re welcome💚
I have a lemon lime ,a red and a tricolor prayer plant I love them to all to bits

They are absolutely beautiful.. 😍
Calathea are my absolute favorite.. Nothing can beat them when it comes to beauty and foliage.. Though they are little finicky and they don't love me that much.. 🙃😁 But I'm learning gradually how to keep them happy..
Thanks for sharing.. Really appreciate it..
You’re welcome ☺️
First time watching you and I just want to say that I love your content and your personality! Keep up the great work. 😊
Thank you so much!!❤️
Thrips are the worst
I started using drops for aquarium that make the water safe. It's helped a lot! I only have one calathea but I also use that water on my spiderplants. Really saw a difference in those pesky brown tips there!
Thank you !
I've got a Calathea Dottie that's been sitting on about half a leaf for around 6 months now. You've given me hope ! 🌱💜👍
So glad I could help!💚
💜🙂🥰
Thank you for this video! I've had a red maranta and I'm hoping to help her thrive. She sits actually in a south-facing window and has put out a TON of new leaves! I will admit that the window actually gets less light in summer than it does in winter since the sun passes quite high over it, so maybe I'll move her for fall/winter (I got her late April). I also give her tap water and she's been doing fine. I think I'll switch her to a self-watering system to see how she does with that. Thank you again!
Thanks forall that useful imformation so much to learn with plants 😅
Happy to help!💚
Thank you so much for this video! I have wanted a Calathea for forever, but heard so many times how difficult they are to take care of and decided to not get one because I didn't want to kill it. I am now going to buy a Rattlesnake Calathea! Thank you! 🥰
Just remember even if you think it’s dead, odds are it will come back! I cannot preach this fact enough to people❤️
@@AlohaPlantLife I never throw a plant out unless I know they are truly dead.
Fingers crossed she bounces back🤞🏻 And thank you!💚
Do you know what is best pot up from 6 inch? I got orchid potting mix, is this ok to use to repot my prayer plant?
Im going to start melting snow for my calethea, i allready gave her a humidifyer and ordered a growlight! The thing im struggling with is keeping my house above 18c temp wise, Its rly cold in norway right now and I hope my plants can cope
My prayer plants are all grouped together
@@rachelpye2760 unfortunately no I don’t have video on that plant at the moment
Thank you for such an informative and interesting video. My maranta seems to be happy without humidifier too. Watching you from Ukraine.
You’re welcome!💚
Very interesting, beautiful plants, thank you for showing! 💚😃👍
You’re welcome ☺️
I'm watching this again and wondered about rain water not being an option? I know the severe drought this year made rain water a luxury but...now with then abundance, am using it for all my houseplants.
I really appreciate your links to your other related videos!! Please keep putting those up...Thank you.
Rain water is 100% an option!
Love your videos
I have 6prayer plants in low light and they are throwing out new leaves I love them I have divided my medallion and the one I divided and they are both growing throwing out new leaves
Awesome!💚
What about leaving in California how I’ll take care does beautiful plants?
I saw some at my friend's house and gave her some tips to revive her plants, and now got her on a plantaholic mission! 😉
Love it!
Omg I thought your Monstera was very large and further away from the camera 👀 Also your hair colour always looks so stunning!
Thank you!
Watching again love your videos
Thank you!💚
Loved this video, I love my calatheas even the ones that turned on me lol.
They almost always come back! I think they just want to show us exactly how displeased they are with us by scaring us into thinking they’ve died 🙃
@@AlohaPlantLife exactly 😂. I am glad I didn’t let my frustrations win on that one. Now I know, never again 👍
the rattlesnake is gorgeous, i need one!

Glad it was helpful!💚
Great timing for this video, thank you! I have a velvet calathea that is about 3' tall. Unfortunately I'm redoing my plant room & had to move all the plants into dining room for this. I watered thoroughly, but had my calathea somewhere I couldn't reach. After 2 weeks I moved everything out for a check & water & she was bone dry. All her leaves are laying down. The leaves look healthy, they're just horizontal 😔 will she be ok with some TLC? Her new room won't be ready for another 2 weeks.
I find calathea bounce back more often than not, they just sometimes take a lot longer to do so than other plants. I wouldn't worry too much.
So thank you for all your advice, cause I used a lot of it!!!🥰👏❤️🪴
@@cookienibz2578 Yay!! That’s awesome 💚
Good information
Thank you!
What kind of water are you watering with?
@@hyperboly It may just be throwing a tantrum over all the changes you’ve put it through. I’d just give it some time to recover💚
Wow you’re right the monstera does look crazy smaller looking back at this video
As far as pests I have never had an issue with that. My prayer plant is 8 yrs. Old.
Lucky!💚
Grow lights for Calatheas & other prayer plants...I'm on my 3rd snake plant calathea

Yes, that should be fine💚
Thx so much. This is really great info! I am a newbie and keep in the master bathroom. So far so good. The people in the garden store told me, "you can't touch the leaves?" I see you touching the leaves and wonder Mmmm..? Is this wrong info?? Am off to get distilled water. I love these:) A plant lover from Colo
If you occasionally touch the leaves it won’t hurt the plant💚
Start-rite for aquariums will neutralize chlorine, but will not eliminate minerals.
Sometimes vines just die off on marantas, is it like all of the vines or just one or two?
Certainly the best video on UA-cam which talks about the calatheas.
I have one question
Can we use the waste water coming out RO water purifier machine for calatheas?
I honestly don’t have enough knowledge of RO systems to be able to confidently answer that question, sorry
Same with our well water in Ohio - very hard, lots of limestone, have to filter it for the whole house.
What soil can I use more the maranta
Thanks for the info! I just impulse-bought my first maranta today! It's in that dense big-box store soil. Should I really just leave it alone? When I do repot it eventually, should I still leave the soil alone and just put better soil around it? I'm not sure I've ever not repotted a big-box store plant immediately upon getting it home and removed all of the soil.
If it’s not in the right type of soil then yes I would repot and get it in the right type of soil immediately
My miranta vines too much and no longer produces uprights. How can I promote upright centralized growth?
It’s a vining plant so the honest answer is you can’t.💚
whats your opinion on using tap water conditioner used for aquarium water? I’ve heard that can be used to remove chlorine from tap water
If it’s a chunky aroid mix, then absolutely💚
Hi great video!! I have a ctenanthe plant and it has been having leaves that have not opened for about a month now I’m not sure if it’s because of a lighting or watering issue? Thank you
Wait, so is it pushing out new leaves but they’re just staying rolled up?
Can u put prayer plants outside in the summer?
Depends where you live and what your outdoor conditions are in the summer. If they’re mild enough then yes💚
@@AlohaPlantLife ok thank you !
@@AlohaPlantLife Didn’t know that
