  • This week I head back up to Aberdeenshire in search of the elusive Pine Martin. This is hard work, with many hours of thought, research and hour in the field. But does it have to be this way? Yes there are shortcuts available but if you take them are you missing out as a wildlife photographer?

    I think the journey and story behind the images we take it just as important as the images. It brings them to life.

      Thanks Shannon, sometimes I don't even need the photograph. I have been known to put down the camera so I can properly soak up the experience👍

    The whole foundation of your thoughts there Scott is the love and understanding of the subject must come first and be part of the enjoyment of the journey especially with sensitive species such as Plne Martin as you say its the most difficult approach but ultimately the most rewarding. 👍

      Thanks Glenn,we had a really great time and got far more footage than we expected. We have one video with two pine martins at the same time and a lot of scent marking going. As you can imagine very excited to get back up there!! It's at times like this I wish I didn't live 400 miles away!😂

    Scott what a brilliant video, first of all thank you both for bringing us along on this project. The trail camera footage is superb, and the clips of the Pine Martin especially in daylight is just amazing to watch 👍🏽📸 what a beautiful creature. As always, thanks for sharing Mate 📸

      Thanks Keith, really enjoyed making this one. The only way it would have been made better was another week to get stills with the big camera! Already planning my escape back up there mate😂👍

    Fab video Scott. Pine martins are stunning animals. Yes the journey is important but there are also so many opportunist chances I find to get great photos as well. If I get great shots.. Either works. 👍😀

      So true Richard, it's always great to be presented with the unexpected, they account for some of my best wildlife moments (usually without the camera!) Kayaking with bottle nosed dolphins down loch spelve on Mull springs to mind👍

    Making photographs is an art and a science. Fieldcraft and the associated research is the science and then follows the art associated with the photography and pp. when it comes together its an amazing experience but we have to accept it wont always work.

      Thanks Nigel completely agree with you. As soon as we left this location I was already thinking of what I could do better on my next visit, what I needed to change and what worked well. All the best👍

    Great Video, I agree, the journey to getting the photo is just as important because it tells a story of the image, each to their own but I don't like to idea of commercial hides, I prefer the method in this video.

    • @scotttilleyphotography
      @scotttilleyphotography  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching Stephen. I'm not a fan of commercial hides either as you can probably tell! I'm not sure it makes you a wildlife photographer as its much closer to zoo photography in my opinion. As you say each to their own and they are useful if you are less mobile and want to see animals close up you wouldn't normally be able to.👍

      @@scotttilleyphotography I just love being out in the woods, scouting, finding clues to animals locations and tracks and hopefully getting some nice photos in the end.. Thank you.

    What a good video and well done on getting pics on trial camera i will try something like this at my new place i did in my last video as I’ve been told there is fox’s thanks for sharing and for the idea 😊

    • @scotttilleyphotography
      @scotttilleyphotography  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Dave, trail cameras can be extremely useful! I have just taken delivery of another one to review that has 4g capablity so I am assuming you can access it from your phone from miles away. This would have been extremely useful on this video as it was a 52 mile round trip to check the camera! One thing to remember is to check you have reset day and time when you have had the batteries out as a lot of them go back to factory setup date which doesn't help with giving times when the wildlife visits! Will take a look at your latest later👍

    • @davedewdney
      @davedewdney Рік тому

      That’s good do you have to do a review video we’re not to see how that works. Did you like my last video of my new location going to go there quite a lot and set things up put out a trial cam and see what’s about if you please could put a thumbs up and maybe put a comment as you know they help to channel. Thank you

      Hi Darren ,thanks for watching. The trail camera I use in the video is on the link below. Interestingly I am just working on a video reviewing a K & F Concept trail camera which will hopefully be another step up from the one I used here. I have to say I was also very happy with the footage I manaed to capture as well!👍
