Ultimate Wildlife Photography Adventure in Aberdeenshire

- Back in June I was furtunate enough to capture Pine Marten on a trail camera I set up for Red Squirrel. The only problem, the trail camera was over four hundred miles from my home address. Over the next three months I had to work out how to maximise the small amount of time I was going to have available to visit the site in Aberdeenshire so that this time could culminate in images and film in real time down at the location. Did I amange it? Well this is the the end of the story for now!
The list below contains the equipment I use for Wildlife Photography and video production. I have provided an affiliate link for each bit of gear. If you buy using this link I get a small commission which helps towards producing this channel. Thank You👍

This must have been really rewarding to you…you deserved it after all the work you’ve put into it …well done…looking forward to your next project 🙂👍👍
Thanks Ron, it has been a fantastic project and always great when you get the results at the end. The biggest buzz was being close to these wonderful animals and something I really can't wait to do again. Thanks for wathcing and have a great weekend🙏👍
So happy you got the shot of pine martens after all that planning. Thank you for sharing Scott.
Thanks Karen, it's great when it all comes together. Really can't wait to get back there and do it again!🙏👍
You made my day! A great video. I fully agree with your comments about using existing or commercial hides. It takes away the satisfaction if all you have to do is press the shutter when someone else has done all the work for you. As you say, the thought, planning and skill is a major part of the end result. When I see the hides with fully configured perches, ponds and even complete flash setups I ask myself who's photographs are the really. THIS is what it's all about, and you're clearly really happy (fantastic, so, so chuffed) at the end.
To see them playing at the end was just a treat. How they jump😂
Hi, thanks so much for your comment. Its always difficult to try and address subjects thay may be a little controversial! I am a complete pine marten addict now. I have to say a large slice of luck went into the start of this project when I captured them on a trail camera set up for red squirrel. After that the distance was a major issue but really glad it came off in the end. The involuntary leaping is hilarious and I just had to add it in at the end, always makes me smile however bad the day is going! Thanks again and have a great weekend.👍👌🙏
Absolutely spot on with your comments about getting an image Scott. I use hides regularly but my preference will always be finding the subject out in the wild. A big part of wildlife photography for me is observing the subject and its behaviour. Researching your subject and putting in the work and effort to obtain images your happy with give so much more satisfaction.
Keep up the good work
Hi, thanks for watching Certainly my preferred form of photography and so happy with my images and film. Really is a session I won't forget and I'm sure I will be heading back in the spring to try my luck again! As you say it really is the whole experience that lies behind the image that sticks in the memory and provides the ultimate satisfaction🙏👍
Well done mate - great work. As you say, it's so much more rewarding when you manage to find subjects for yourself - especially when they're not on your doorstep to be popping to check on them every day. A lot of thought and effort, but all worth it. And I loved the trail cam footage of the kits too, and all your funny sound effects.
Thanks Scott. Have to say it was difficult to leave, would have loved to spend so much more time with them... Never mind there's always next time!😉👍
Priceless footage well done David Attenborough would be proud of that
Many Thanks, one of my favourite experiences so far and one I really want to get back to in 2024! Thanks for watching👍🙏
Cheers Scott, well deserved after all your hard work. Totally agree with your words and thoughts about paid hides. Like you say the feeling you get when it all comes together and the encounters never forgotten. All the best. 👍📷😎
Cheers Rob, yes if you haven't experienced it when it all works out after a lot of effort it's really something people should try! I really can't wait to get back up there! Cheers!🙏🙏👍
Brilliant work Scott. Good planning, great set up and perfect execution. You got the results you deserve, awesome images mate. Hilarious how they cleaned the cobwebs off the trail camera 😂. Thanks for sharing mate 👍🙏
Thanks Adrian, this is one of the more difficult shoots I've done. Unfortunately I now have a pine marten obsession and can't wait to get back there! I was so lucky to get the youngsters out and really felt I needed to share the footage. Thanks for watching mate, have a great weekend!🙏👍
Your hard work paid off beautifully, stunning video . Thanks 👏👏👏👍
Thanks Stephen, really satisfying when all the work pays off. My favorite image of the year👍
Great video Scott, totally agree with what you said about paid hides and making things happen for yourself there is nothing better and rewarding then getting the footage and pictures after putting in a lot of hard work your pictures will be unique and not same as the person sitting next to you. Hope you feeling better today then perhaps when you were editing this video.
Thanks Patrick, I think I'm over the worst of it now! I'm really hoping to get some more visits in next year. There's something quite magical about being there live with such stunning secretive creatures. If I lived up there I would be a regular visitor! Thanks for watching mate🙏👍
Scott, what a video, absolutely superb. You planned everything so well, and the rewards came for you, I learnt from this video. I love them bouncing around, they cant half jump 😊 Footage brilliant and the stills you came away with are absolutely stunning. 📸👍🏽
Cheers Lee, one of my favourite wildlife experiences. I could have sat in the hide for days but unfortunately time ran out. I'm sure I will be back in the future, not sure Ill be able to stay away!!🙏👍
Highly rewarding project! I agree with you that the satisfaction of your images is higher in case they are more unique. Like you I do appreciate paid hides as well. They are of great use in the Netherlands. Especially as own projects in this highly crowded country with limited number of spots for own projects are very difficult to realize. very nice footage of the playful youngsters as well!!
Many thanks Andius, I really hope photographers who haven't followed a project from beginning to end will give it a go as they don't know what they are missing! But, as you say paid hides do have there place. Really glad you enjoyed the video, I can't wait to have another go later this year!!👌👍
Fab fella
Thanks Paul, certainly one of those days you don't forget 😉 👍
Well deserved after all the effort you put in mate, definitely one for the wall. Love the Kits running around too 👏
Cheers Keith, I really wish i was still up there! I suspect I'm slightly addicted!! One of my wildlife highlights so far and yes your right it will be going on the wall👍All the best mate!
wow what a great experience you had, with great rewards for your effort, top-notch Scott 👍
Thanks Ashley, I only wish I could be up there every week! Certainly a project with much more mileage in it and can't wait to get back up there. Aberdeenshire certainly has a lot to offer🙏👍
@@scotttilleyphotography looks like you have a great spot, I hope to find a few myself next year, nothing better than being out in the wild and experiencing those true wild encounters. 👍
Super useful video Scott! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Also, loved the intro talking shot on the small bridge :) really nice
Thanks for watching Patrik 👍 one that took a lot of work but it paid off in the end. One of my favorite mammals👍👍
@@scotttilleyphotography It really did. Cheers
