- Hi everyone. This is episode 6 in my series about my daily life as a wildlife photographer.
This episode shows how hard work sometimes gets rewarded - and how mistakes gets punished when It comes to wildlife photography…
I have now been working on attracting wildlife to my land for more than 6 years, and I think I just had the best evening in my photo blind since I moved here to the farm.
It is late summer in Denmark, and as always time just flies way too fast. I often wish nature could slow down just a bit so that I would have the time to better embrace the four seasons:)

Thank you so much everyone for all these encouraging and beautiful comments. I am reading every single one of them and it makes me so happy. I really really really appreciate 🙏🙏
Absolutly stunning work!!! Respect here♥
Hi sir
Hello, I really enjoy your work. I’m an American living in the Philippines. I enjoy underwater photography and video but I am starting to photograph the wildlife here. I’m learning a lot from your videos. Thank you so much
Morten. This video brought me to tears. I am from Canada and lived there until I was 43. I had a small farm just east of Winnipeg and you could not see my house from the road. There was no one behind me for 7 miles and I bordered a provincial forest. I was hunter, bowhunter and a photographer, but also owned an agency in the city, a 35 minute commute. I would come home and watch the wildlife in the yard, go for walk on my place, hunt deer in the back and sometimes take my dog by quad a mile down the road for ducks. It's a long story, but I sold everything and in some strange way, ended up in the concrete jungle of LA in 2012. I have been trying to get out ever since. There is no wildlife here and it is very hard on me. I still do photography and film, but it's more commercial and documentary. Hopefully soon, I will be back in the woods again where I belong. In the meantime I will keep watching your films and dream that I am there with you. Thank you for doing what you do and sharing it with us.
Thanks a lot for sharing your story and thoughts Sheldon. I totally understand how you must feel in the city. I really hope you’ll find your way back to your roots. Until then I’ll do my best to keep your dream alive😊
See you out there…
Wow Sheldon I hope you get back to the peace and joy found only in the woodlands, pastures, etc... Good luck!
Strange the directions life pulls us in sometimes. Hope you make it back up here soon Sheldon, best of luck.
@@joshhead9368 Hi Josh. I made it up to Fargo, North Dakota at least and got up to Manitoba for visit last November. Perhaps I'll get back to Canada, but at least I'm out of LA. Thanks buddy.
Everytime I watch Morten Hilmer vlog. The time passes by and suddenly it's the end of the video and man I never want it to finish. I always wish, oh! what if it was a bit longer ? I don't know what happens to my attention span. I am so focused watching these videos, 40 minutes feels so short. Thanks a lot for such a beautiful thing you deliver here Morten.
absolutely right
Thank you Morten, you inspire. It is amazing to see your videos showing us what is possible if you focus on what you love to do. I am a 63 year old women and I am going to Churchill Manitoba to photograph the polar bears, because you help me live my long life dream. Thank you for all you do for us. Have fun in Norway!
Hi Susan. Thank you for your nice compliment. I hope you will have an amazing time in Churchill 😀
This is not less than a master piece. I would say you're rocking Morten in bringing the best content we are looking for:)
I definitely agree! Doesn't get any better!
You must be the most humble authentic youtuber in the history, so glad I discovered you years ago & see that fame hasn't changed you. Pay off deserved for sure :)
This is wonderful highlights the importance of protecting our beautiful planet.
We have squirrels, brown and black; as well as badgers, but the badgers are ferret badgers, so a lot smaller! We also have a ton of snakes and centipedes for those sitting in the jungle from Spring onwards...
You probably have the most soothing and peaceful channels on youtube. After a hectic and stressful day at work, it's always nice to see a new video of yours pop up.
Beautiful video 📹 shots woulderful 👌 sharing ❤ GBU always with your team and friends 😊 family 👪 too
Thank you Morten! It’s so beautiful!! ❤
As a new wildlife UA-camr I’m very much enjoying your videos Morten. You’re my favorite UA-camr and your stories and cinematic footage are a great inspiration. Thanks from Canada.
Hi Simon and thanks a lot for your nice compliment. I’m looking forward to seeing some of your videos when I’m back from Norway.
I wish you all the best luck with your photography and your UA-cam adventure.
We need more people to speak for all the creatures in nature who can’t speak for themselves…
Morten is such an inspiration. All the scenery, all the images, all the mood he shares, are beyond words to explain.
One of the greatest Nikon Ambassador ever seen. Its always pleasure to watch the video.
Its such a joy and pleasure to watch this video. Welcome to Norway!
A person that have gorilla tejp laying around are well prepared ;) and pro tip are using " construction" grond screws, lasts forever and and sits firmly in the ground (as they are screwd in)
As for and You and Me, When nature are close and at hand with our gentle support of food or shelter we feel lucky ;) and it makes us smile
Edit one, Badger in good light 5+ for you
Edit two in just a few seconds, Racoon Dog's, in pair, lucky you for having that around..And it knows you are around 15:22 , look at that sense of smell.
In my eyes, if you scared the deer that's a good thing as it keeps away from humans, but yes a no scare is better
Wow, what a beautiful and amazing video. I watched it for the photography but was moved by the story it tells. Thank you!
Love the work you do Morten! Beautiful how you encounter all of nature with wonder and awe! A squirrel to you is a novelty, I unfortunately have to regularly catch them in my attic and relocate them miles away. Squirrels will come back even from 3 to 5 miles away. I hate to do it, but they cause so much damage in the attic... Again, from around the world us following you, how much of nature that is just outside our homes we take for granted.
You did very well to get that close to the deer. The only way you could have gotten closer is if they had been somewhat acclimated to humans before on a regular basis and their fear level would have dropped by a great deal. I still think the images are beautiful. A few years younger, and I would be heading your way. I will enjoy your work through your eyes.
I wait for weeks to get amazed by his videos again and again!
Sitting down and watching a new Morton vlog with a cup of coffee in the morning... does it get any better? Your enthusiasm is contagious. I'm always amazed how your passion for every creature translates into your photos.
Best video in a long time, and I am not even done watching it :-)
I swear by the God. When I watch your videos i feel im in nature ❤🌱
Great video as always Morten :) At 3:49 = white dog problems lol!
Thanks for inviting us to your farm, Morten. That is a type of photography that I love. Over the last 35 years we have planted so many trees that provide food for wildlife that I seldom leave home to do photography anymore. We have many whitetail does and fawns this season that I can just step out and photograph. We have a white oak tree that has bushels of acorns this year and the squirrels are loving it. What they don't eat they drop on the ground and the deer love them. We also have a red oak tree and the squirrels start on it earlier in the season. I set up a "Hollywood" set on the back porch and I photograph birds in whatever setting that I put together to look good. I'm glad to see you making the most of your place for wildlife. Plant some nut trees and you'll eventually find that you have so many squirrels that they are pests. But you'll have deer and birds, too. BTW, I really liked that one picture of the raccoon dog. Stood out like 3D. Good luck with squirrel hunting at your friend's place. Don't forget to get some of those nuts to plant in pots. You can transplant them later and have some good wildlife attractors in a few years.
Thanks a lot for sharing👍 there are a lot of hazel trees on my land, so I really hope to see more squirrels in the near future😊
I have just viewed your this blog, and looks like i need to watch your other blogs to… its amazing and keep doing this
I just discovered you and almost all the videos I see have brought me happy tears!

The video, The narration, The pictures, The mood you created, the choice of music... Everything... Man it was awesome... 40 minutes went by in a blink...
Exciting big Hertzog energy takes this up an extra notch.
I wish to be just like you when I grow up….wait….I’m older than you! Shoot, well if we all have some of your spirit and love for the wildlife our world will be a better place! Thanks for sharing so much wonder and beauty!
Your videos are always so mellow and filled with delightful surprises. I love the music you choose to complement the visual mood you create. Thanks for your art, on every level.
Hi, thank for sharing your photos it's inspiring. excellent Chanel . Greetings from South of Chile! 🌦🌦🌳🌳
A little masterpiece build on the "less is more". Less bs, more content. "I'm just a jealous guy" in a good way. Thanks Morten!
what a lovely relaxing watch, thank you.
Your videos never seem long enough .
Your videos always relax me
Thank you sir .
Good to hear a mention of the 2023 calendar. Been waiting to hear something about that, really enjoying the 2022 version
What an inspirational video! I love that you can get so excited about capturing images of a squirrel!
Fantastic. Thank you. Beautiful film. Hopefully the squirrels will return soon. Stay well and safe travels. All the very best. 👍📷😎
Hi Morten
what a nice video. with a glimpse into your world. what a beautiful place you live there in northern denmark. it is a piece of paradise on earth. thanks for sharing and looking forward to your next video of your adventures as a full time wildlife photographer .
Hey Morten, thank you so much for sharing this beautiful moments, recordings and photos with us! That's so inspiring and it makes me want to go out and take pictures and videos.
Moments like the deer encounter you had are always overwhelming. In my last UA-cam video I also tried to photograph deer. I sat down at the edge of a forest and after a few hours a doe and her fawn came out of the forest just a few metres away from me. It was such a great experience and the shots I was able to take fascinate me every time I look at them!
Keep up the good work, Morten and good luck with the squirrels!
Greetings from Germany
Max
I can only agree with you, Max! Some encounters in nature are simply overwhelming! I just watched your video and wow! You are only 14 years old and you are so involved with nature. Your footage is really impressive. It's worth taking a look. Keep up the good work, Max and Morten!
Thanks a lot Max. I’m looking forward to watching your video.
I’ll leave a comment when I have watched it 👍
Hey Morten! Thank you for this beautiful piece of art you brought us. Not only are you a great photographer but also a fantastic videographer and a storyteller...
I believe you really enjoyed photographing the raccoon dog. A month ago I also managed to get my first photos o this beautiful specie and was mesmerized by this encounter. Thank you for inspiring me with each video and making me a better person. Lots of love and take care Morten!
Wow thank you for your beautiful video !!!
Beautiful Morten! 🙏
It's simply amazing. I'm watching this video, and it turns me to Denmark. Good Luck!
Morten, I may be a photographer in the (completely different) motorcycle industry, but your videos inspire me so so much for my own video journey that I've recently started. Yours always comfort and soothe me and are one of the few I can watch completely without distractions. Thank you so much
If you do a trip in nature, who will never come back emtpy handed, because you have been connected to nature and thats a so high good. Enjoy, all the best for your next trips! Would be a new book title: My Special Backyard
I love your videos ! You are living the dream of many people I think! I am also an amateur photographer and I envy you :) Really , really great videos and beautiful nature
I have been watching your videos for 5 years or so now, and I am always happy to see a new one. Your videos inspired me to get serious about wildlife photography, be out in the cold and winter, and really improve. Thank you for creating these vignettes into your experience.
What a pleasing video to watch, the content, your voice and the music/sound is just so very well done! Very enjoyable! What a gorgeous place to find peace and take great photo and video. Thank you, loved every single bit, suddenly my short attention span has disappeared while watching your video.
wow.. first time i saw a racoon dog.. that is a beautiful creature.
Thank you very much. Your videos are totally inspiring. Please, don't stop sharing your stories.
Greetings from Spain
another piece of your soul you show us! thx, Morten
Love the Racoon Dog shots Morten and love how you don't completely obliterate things with the depth of field! So many photographers are so happy to have just an eye in focus and screw the rest of the animal. Yours are perfection 👍👍👍
What a beautiful film, thank you Morten. Congrats to Racoon dog. AMAZING
Morten, thank you so much for sharing your incredibly beautiful photos and videos with us. You do amazing job!! Pure inspiration!
🌳🌲🌾🌷
Brilliant video yet again. What a stunning place to live too.
These kind of videos calm my soul. Pure nature paired with professionalism.
Thank you, Morten, for your films. You are currently my inspiration, and I always come back to watch your movies. I love watching them because you speak so calmly and naturally; nothing feels fake. I also photograph nature myself, so I know how challenging it can be to communicate with wild nature at times.Thank you for your films, and I hope to meet you in person someday. Greetings from Poland! Michał.
Great work Morten! Wilding our land is exactly what needs to be done, and your use of story telling is gripping as always.
So nice to watch another of your videos, I have missed them, always entertaining with useful ideas too, thanks 🙏
Marvellous story telling once again Morten and love how you just integrate yourself into nature's surroundings. Thank you for sharing such wonderful moments with us
Thanks for posting these. It's hard not to love the stories you share.
what a heartwarming episode. My favourite has to be the raccoon dog not popular in Europe but find they are loved in Asia. A lot of hard work but we are thankful for your sharing these precious moments with us.🤩 💐
This is my go to channel, whenever I need a 'lift ' or inspiration. Thank you, for sharing your passion.
Sometimes just taking a few steps back from our day to day self imposed pressures, getting out in nature without expectations, is the best reset we need. Nature has mastered this gift. Your home is blessed with such a beautiful array of wildlife. Thank so much for all your hard work and dedication to wildlife and nature, but most of all thank you for sharing.
Thank you Morten for this video. It was a great view into your work on your little farm. I use camouflage stuff from the german company Ghosthood. It is very lightweight und easy to carry. I was just standing 15m in front of a roe deer and it dit not recognize, that I´m not a bush.
16:20 Those eyes are telling something... That's a beautiful time freeze
Superbe vidéo… l’énergie du vidéo, la cadence parfaite pour rester attentif, l’humour et le drôle de parler du bas du fleuve 👍😂 Good work!
so beautiful to see your love and appreciation for nature
My favourite photographer !!
Fantastic Video. Thank you Morten . You certainly do inspire everyone in Photograph,y just go and do it. Experience and enjoy nature and its surroundings
Beautifull videos .Again Thank you. ..
This is superb Morten!
Thank you for your sensitivity to nature, your wonderful and loving nature when you observe the animals and photograph them. We are all one. And we should have more humility towards the beauty around us.
your photography and your music makes nature seem even more magical! Thank you for taking us with you on your journey. Take care and be safe out there....
As often in your creations there is something that is very peaceful and i am always looking for new work to see. Many thanks Morten !
Great to see you making a video again, such a beautiful and peaceful life through hard work and dedication. Looking forward to seeing more when you have time. 🏴
An amazing video and stunning shots 👍 Love it. Thanks for sharing, Tobias 😉
Nice video Morten! The squirrels are very elusive. Here in Spain I'm having a lot of difficulties to photograph them too, I know where they are and if I put food in the place they eat it but when i go with the hide they never show up, in more than one occasion I heard the squirrels in the trees above me and even throwing sticks to the hide... I think they have enough intelligence to see the hide an throw sticks to determine if is a thing that can move, etc. In summary, if I plant the hide in the area, the squirrels never show up
I pause the video every now and then to soak in the bliss of the scene and make it last longer. Watching your videos is pure joy. Thanks Morten
by far you are the best i have watched love your enthusiasm for wild life and photography , it is a great inspiration to my self and others
once again thank you for a wonderful video. You are an inspiration and I look forward to your adventures and I don't want your videos to end. Thank you .
Another wonderful video. A great way to start the day over coffee. More please!
I*m from kenya and a young wildlife photographer.....Have learnt alot from your tutorials
Beautiful, Morten. Thank for sharing your always inspiring work with us!
Morten, I love how you create and tell stories. Your love of nature includes all creatures large and small. The fact that you waited and watched days for the red squirrel says a lot about who you are as a human being and a nature photographer. Where I live in the US people dislike squirrels.I love watching them, especially when they chase each other. Thank you for sharing your time and talent with us.
I love it, thank you for sharing your beautiful and peaceful home.
I can't click fast enough when you post a video. Excellent work
How wonderful to wake up and see a video from Morten! Thanks, I enjoyed seeing and love your farm. What a fantastic place you have!
I really love this type of videos as they show what you are up to when not photographing and I of course approve of all the Bjørn content ;) I'm eagerly awaiting the announcement for the 2023 calendar :D Fingers crossed for some squirrels at some point :) 🤞Enjoy your trip to Norway!
Thank you Pica, I’m really glad you share your thoughts on the video. It is new to me to make the videos like this so I love the feedback👍😊
You’re my most favorite wildlife photographer. Such a beautiful and joy to watch video. You just show here that wildlife photography it’s all about emotion and spending time with the nature.
Stumbled on you channel by mistake, but since nothing in this world is happening randomly, I grateful.Absolutely amazing experience, I felt like I was there near you in thins adventure, I think you might just bring the wildlife video content to a different lvl simply by the way you introduce us into the story, congratulations for that. And thanks for the opportunity to be part of it.
Thank you so much for your work, Morten. You're a source of inspiration for me !
