Umbrella logic: Stage a surprise ambush trap in front of an obviously setup motorcycle, so that Alice can be "captured" and "tortured" by the fodder soldiers. Only so she can have a badass fight sequence that kills them all for her to get knocked out after trying to get on the motorcycle afterwards.
…Why didn't they just let her get on the motorcycle in the first place?

Bless your hearts for analyzing these, I couldn’t watch anymore halfway through Retribution and I thought I was a trooper. It’s just like Anderson was making shit up as he went along, I’ve never seen anything like it. This whole series of reviews was a blast though.
Ya know... I like these movies, defended them even. I don't think mindless action is all that bad on occasion. I've always separated the movies and games as different universes... But I can't defend this shit. Everything about your review is right on the money. No single movie in this franchise confused, disinterested, or annoyed me like this one did, and I'm not a picky person when it comes to movies.
I just would like to say I'm one of the folks that doesn't wanna turn off my brain. I like using it. I actually had to use my brain to play the older RE games, so I don't want to watch a film of the same title that begs me to turn it off. Guilty pleasure, not even? When the series can't keep up with it's own continuity, it's ultimately given up. Just a creation to get money, screw being creative and making interesting characters, right?
Once I heard that there was a stunt performer who died and another who was injured just to get this last addition to the films series made, I avoided it. I knew it'd just piss me off.
So yes, love the reviews guys! I'm sorry you had to put up with this whole film franchise. :'Db
the games & movies are separate universes. enjoying a movie or franchise doesn't mean people aren't using there brains even if the franchise leaves missing pieces or characters without explanation. bashing others because they like something you dislike/hate isn't using your brain yet you claim you like using your brain. you clearly weren't using your brain when you made this comment & probably won't if you reply.

The amount of stunt actors injured alone leaves me unable to enjoy these films, which is a PERSONAL grievance I specifically have. I cannot enjoy something when it comes to that point. You are certainly allowed to enjoy these films and there's nothing wrong with you doing so. Understand that folks like you were not the subject of my frustrations with this franchise in my prior comment all that time ago! (Although constantly being told to 'turn my brain off' is kind of annoying, not gonna lie.)
Yes these are commercial products used to make money, not connected to the games. I still don't have to like them, just as much as you are allowed for it to be your favorite movie.

Somehow, for one reason or another, I sat through every RE film in theaters, and honestly, my brain did exactly what Gary's did. Didn't remember a frame of The Final Chapter even while watching your review😅

Alice wakes up at the beginning in all but two of these movies she could have been multiple clones through the series and then add the underground areas of Retribution and they just could have made this whole series some sort of sick twisted Umbrella Corporation lab test. it would be better than this

But in RE : Apocalypse its implied that Dr. Ashford made the T-Virus and possibly the Anti-Virus.

Big goof in this film, I noticed on a rewatch. In the convoy battle, Alice cuts off the Doctors hand and uses it to operate the motorbike (as the motorbike has biometric controls, and electrocutes anyone without access) and starts the bike and rides off, however, in the next scene it shows infected eating the hand she used. Alice stops the bike, and gets off a few scenes on, remounts, fires up and operates the motorcycle perfectly......without the severed hand....without electrocution.......continuity people, eh? I suppose she could have recovered another hand, but that's not shown....
Find it crazy the Resident Evil movies are considered horror movies. Guess just because there are zombies and monsters. Definitely would be considered more of an Action/ Science Fiction/ fantasy.
The one constant they had going in this film series, thru all its retcons and contradictions, was that her name was Alice and she remembered everything. And then they get to the last fucking movie and she isn’t even the real Alice and she remembers jack shit. Holy God is this a mess! Has any other franchise held it’s audience in such contempt?

it's only depressing if you don't fully understand what a stunt person does & signed up for, stunt peoples contracts 100% clearly say something of the sort that you may sustain injuries or may even die during a stunt so stunt people live for this life it's like being a rock climber you have to expect you might get injured or die.

These sentiments about the movie are spot on. I went and seen this in theaters because of Leon and Ada knowing full well they'd fuck up the characters in favor of Alice but when it came to the part where the licker takes the little girl and Leons response I was beyond pissed. Leon's whole character in game is about saving people, in fact RE6 came out right after and that's all he tried to do in his campaign. I was done after that
I actually went to see this.
Now most of you have finished laughing ... thinking back on it now - I never thought I'd say this - The Last Jedi doesn't seem so bad!

The thing would have assimilated the world in less time and been much more horrifying. The only horror is the series on it's own. Having to watch this shit.
The Resident Evil film franchise is a masterclass in how to be terrible at literally every single thing in a film. Writing? Garbage. Acting? Trash. Directing? Abysmal. The action and horror? Literally made for children on every conceivable prescription. These movies do more than simply disappoint me, they absolutely disgust me.

I don't think some of the animated movies are much different in tone or less ridiculous and out of place to be honest, games like RE 2 and 3 both had incredibly unique and ominous atmospheres, helped immensely by a fantastically sinister and eerie soundtrack that made us feel paranoid, tense, even hopeful. Or could fill us with complete and utter dread and panic without a seconds notice, that was survival horror to me. Leon and Chris doing Gun Kata or whatever it was on waves of zombies putting them in headlocks and using WWE moves and a fight scene where they run around in circles missing eachother at point blank range just didn't do it for me.

I dare say...and I am hoping not...that there might be a reason they left Alice alive even though they "say" this is the last one. Who knows...can't just see them obliterating a movie series making that much money. But...thas as may be I totally agree...I am a special effects painter and artist and when I watch any movie...THAT is one of the things I watch for as well as getting wrapped up in the story and or the meanings involved. And.......oi...all of the effects here--suck...and blow. I do like the 1st and 2nd movies...but not for Alice...for the other characters involved and I can identify with Rayne who gives her all in trying to be right up there with her piers and then in trying to help defend them...gets royally trounced. You could tell she came from humble beginnings and I thought it fitting tribute to her that her last act albeit she turned into a zombie...was to fall up against the very button binning the oversized hamburger with teeth on the train. I stopped watching the series after they killed off Carlos. Also yes...if anyone is seizure prone or has brain ailments...don't watch this twaddle. Great review guys.Not been on as I was involved in a fund raising art gala but...you lot knocked it out the park again. Have a great one

I'm confused with the ending when the red Queen shows Alice Alicia images are memories whatever red Queen says the childhood you never had combine with the woman she could never become does that mean Alicia giving Alice a childhood while Alice is the woman Alicia could never become I'm I right
there were a bunch of survivors from last movie that didn't return. yet your just now realizing the director does this often in resident evil movies has parts that aren't continued, chris redfield actor didn't want to return i read.

I really liked this franchise, I use to watch them over and over when I was younger. Then I watched this movie and it totally ruined the other 5 movies for me and I haven't been able to watch any of them since :(

Of course Milla Jovovich will be the sole survivor...... she's Paul W S Anderson's wife, she's exactly the same as Sheri Moon Zombie, who appears in EVERY one of Rob Zombie's films. The ONLY Paul W S Anderson films Milla hasn't been in are Event Horizon and AVP to my knowledge.

This movie just completely destroys any type of "story" the movies were working too. Nothing connects, it's like Anderson wanted to do a complete reboot in the last movie. And yeah the real horror is this franchise is the most successful horror movie series.
