This entire series is just Anderson's Resident Evil fanfiction he got to make into movies
he is just pissy because he alledgedly wanted to do something similar to Alice in Wonderland meets Resident Evil but Capcom didn't allow it.

The first movie was the only okay adaptation. The rest are f#*&ing rip offs. You can just retitle them:
Dawn of the Alice, The Road Alice, The Alice: Reloaded, and Alice: Judgement Day.
doesnt help that he constantly ripped iconic moments away from some characters and gave them to alice, the drop gun and catch it move from Claire, the knife fight with ada from leon, the whole nemesis deal from jill, hell in this film im pretty fucking sure shes using the same triple barrel shot gun that hellena used in resident evil 6, not to mention the hive is basically the nest from resident evil 2, train ride and all, would explain why a licker was stuck down there, its worse that this man has clearly at least studied the games just to cherry pick the cool bits for the films in hopes that hed get some fanboy points
Calling the first one ok is generous. I remember fighting the urge of walking out of the theater only time I ever felt that way and I’ve seen a lot of shit movies.

These movies are the ultimate guilty pleasure for me. They're all terrible movies, but like a car crash, I find myself unable to look away.
Honestly I get a kick of seeing them being harshly (and rightfully) disrespected. Paul "Wuss" Anderson is nothing more than a henpecked husband. Why do I say that? Well... Before this movie began production, Milla bitch-a-vitch was afraid of her spotlight being overshadowed by Sienna Guillory (actress who played Jill Valentine). And she was right in thinking that way because Sierra Guillory is actually a great actress compared to Milla. So what does Bitch-a-vitch do? She boots all the other characters except for a few like Claire Redfield and Albert Wesker. And Paul Wuss didn't dare contradict his wife. It should also go without saying he's comparable to one of those over-the-phone scammers from India only instead of scamming you over the phone, he scams you over with movies that look good.
FINALLY! I thought I was going to die before you finally made this review. I thought GRR Martin was going to release The Winds of Winter before you made this review. I thought it was going to be an hour long review.....but thank you...thank you...thank you😊
When clone Isaacs asks the real Isaacs who he is and he responds with "I'm you, you idiot", my brother and I just couldn't stop laughing. Best line delivery ever.
When in doubt, just make everything dark(or filtered so everything is brown on top of brown), add in a random flashlight or other small light source and then cut 500 times a second jumping all around the scene so fast it feels like you're falling down a staircase with a strobe light taped over your eyes. The audience will be too preoccupied making sure they don't have a seizure, that they won't take in what they just saw enough to question the massive plotholes everywhere lol.
Marcus was one of the creators of the viral weapons, but he used leeches as carriers of the virus, he was betrayed and killed and one of his creations, the queen leech fed on his corpse and became a doppelganger of him, serving as the main antagonist for RE 0
I was extremely disappointed in the first film in that it did not even pretend to follow the game. I also wondered how the hair salons survived as Alice's hair style and color kept changing from movie to movie. The last movie was REALLY BAD!
Well Anderson got one thing right: James Marcus has always been a poorly retconned in character, even in the games.

My god this film is terrible. I remember watching this laughing so i wouldnt cry or burst into ragemode. I honestly feel Anderson is making these films terrible on purpose. Nothing in this film makes any goddamned sense. Action and choreography is done terribly, story is nonsensical and it hardly connects with any movie that before it. Also, i'm not sure what message they were trying to go for here. Alicia uploading her memories to clone Alice to make her real person now despite the fact Alice has lived completely different separate life from Alicia and those are other woman's memories. I have seen stories about cloning done better than this abomination. Great review again, Deusdaecon. I'll look forward to see more of your reviews :)

The problem is these movies are not made for US or Europe market. These movies make a bulk of their money in Asia markets. That's why they keep making them. They only release in the US to get to say they are American movies. That is a big draw in Asian markets. Kinda like how we eat up anything Anime.
You never pointed out that the new actress for the Red Queen is Paul W. S. Anderson and Mila's daughter. Not only does he do "My wife is hot", he also brought his own daughter into the mix.
"Seal the Hive!? What happened to Total Lockdown, Maximum Security?!" Clearly they didn't go with Super Special, chocolatey fudge-covered Lockdown, Ultra Maximum air-tight seal Security. I also get those two confused.
These are just vehicles for that fine specimen that is Milla Jovovich

Yaaaasss! Been waiting for this review of this crappy movie! The entire film series was bad, but this was exceptionally rubbish. They got rid of the characters from the previous movies and did so much retconning.

Personally after the first movie, it all went downhill. It should have based itself after the video games which the movies did little to no effort in doing so.
No worries about sequels as Sony immediately announced they will reboot the Film Franchise. Maybe they will get it right the second time around.
I honestly hope they base it on the video games and not make shit up like these films.

Not only for your innate charm and God Tier sense of humor but, every single one is well thought out and you have a seemingly endless repertoire of knowledge to point out inconsistencies. Like in this video when you pointed out the fact that Military vehicles don't have an ignition. I can’t speak on game loyalties (as I never played them) but to me it’s the best of the live-action films, mainly cause the characters actually have personality and development and it feels like a fucking horror movie.
I heard that Milla Jovovich scoffed at the idea of a new adaptation of the video games into a film, stating that they shouldn't bother with perfection.
Only because it wouldn't star her as main character, so of course she is bitter as spoiled child.
Wasn't the Red Queen a good guy in the first movie? I mean, she killed everyone in the facility, yeah, but only to seal it and stop the virus from spreading. The problem was that it didn't warn anyone, so the characters assumed she simply went wrong.
Or that's what I remember. Man, its been years since I saw the movie...
Maybe so but two problems. 1. She was homicidal to the point that she sliced a head of a woman just for shitt and gigles. 2. She killed umbrella workers which stood against her programming presented in this movie.

1. She didn't decapitate that woman for shits and giggles, she did it as it was a definite means of eliminating her as a threat.
2. Technically, they weren't "Umbrella workers" any more, because they had been infected. Umbrella only keeps their people around so long as they are useful. Once they were infected, they were no longer useful and therefore would no longer be considered employees, just like when the Red Queen immediately acted to kill Wesker as soon as Alicia fired him.

@@wireboar7321 it's the last movie of the original Walling Tall movies. It's a little slow, but it shows the effects the first movie had on Pusser. It ends with the car crash that killed him. Can't continue a story about a real person after that and the 70's isn't known for prequels.

Well... if there's anything that's even remotely worth commending in this movie... I guess it would be the set design for the Hive, which at least looks moody and atmospheric. But that's pretty much it.
Oh man, I was never a fan of the Resident Evil movies because how godawfully stupid they were. But, this one surprisingly manages to out do itself!

I see the RE movies as Anderson's attempt to keep his wife happy (he and Milla got together after the first movie). That's why they seem to be nothing more than a husband's ego boosting and showcasing of his wife.
Yup, that's a pretty vapid assumption on my part but it's my opinion on these.

I remember catching this at the tail end of it's cinema run at the cheap theater in my town. This was with 2 of my friends at the time and we proceeded to Mystery Science Theater 3000 this entire (nearly self writing) riff track.
You guys must have had a.blast since there's so much riff material in this film.

20:04 I I completely agree the plan makes no sense. I think they just really stopped caring about this franchise and just wanted to get it over with.
I know I'm probably wasting my time trying to make sense of things, but I think the reason why Isaacs was Wesker's lacy in RE: Extinction is probably because the real Isaacs made a clone of himself then put Wesker of charge of said clone and keep him in check.
Then again, to counteract that theory, if Wesker was put in charge of the Isaacs clone, why would he try to control the clone all the way from Japan instead of the Vegas headquarters. Especially since we saw how quickly the clone went rogue. And why is Wesker taking charge of one clone, then taking orders from the clone with the tank? So yeah, I'm really wasting my time trying to make sense of it.
Also, someone told me that reason why Anderson decided to bring Isaacs back, and make him the boss this time, was because when Extinction came out, actor Iain Glen was more or less an unknown. Then once he gained recognition from none other than Game of Thrones, Anderson decided to "resurrect" him and give him a bigger role, presumably to make more bucks in the box office. It's fucking stupid, but I wouldn't put it past Paul WS Anderson.
Watched this in 4D theatre with Japanese Dubbed. Couldn't understand the dialogues, plots as my Japanese wasn't that good back then - so I made up my own dialogues haha. So it was enjoyable (the shaking chair during action scenes and explosions made it feel like an amusement park ride and there were so many in the film) especially since I wasn't investing much on the plot and didn't know much about previous movies except the 1st one. Didn't remember much of the movie after; just that my body was aching with all the seat shakings.
Edit: oh god, I forgot Rola was in this hahahh another bait for Japanese audiences.
What a great review, this movie killed all the previous movies and the ending throwing the antidote and killing the zombies was taken from dead rising!!!

I guess it can be excused during the beginning that the humvee had a claymore in it because in the last movie we see humanity literally being overrun so the soldiers would abandon the humvee and the claymore(s) within as they try to regroup in the whitehouse as they don't have time to grab everything and set up a proper defense.

I just realised something Deusdeacon. This film and Transformers The Last Knight are easily some of the worst sequels ever made in my opinion. The similarities for these two films are uncanny:
1. They both retcon and ignore most of the events of previous films.
2. They both have poorly shot and terribly choreographed action set pieces that aren't fun to watch.
3. They both end on sequel bait endings.
4. The screenplays in both of these films aren't just bad writing, but they are an insult to your intelligence.
5. They both have almost no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
6. Both of them caused me to lose all respect for both there directors.
7. Both of them should be used as prime examples of cinematic incompetence in a nutshell.
8. The villains in both films are utterly pathetic and the elite mooks die in a way that is so underwhelming it's a slap in the face.
9. They both bring back a few characters from previous/earlier films and do nothing with them.
10. Both have the protagonists racing against the clock to find a macguffin to save the world.
I finally figured out how to enjoy these movies. It just takes a bit of head cannon and a ton of squinting. If you just imagine that every "main" Alice past the second movie is a clone of the clone in the first movie it makes everything so much better. She dies at the end of the second movie, they clone her to make "Project Alice", then she dies again in the 4th movie when the Umbrella Vehicle crashes but the real Wesker(oh did I mention the Wesker's from every movie except the last is a clone like the original issacs which is why he has no powers in the final movie) sent out another Alice clone to deal with the infected Wesker clone who was destroying Umbrella infrastructure at an alarming rate, when they thought he died in the explosion they took back Arcadia, killing the Alice clone. When they realized infected Wesker was still alive they programed another Alice clone to take him out but he got to her before they could release her into the wild by attacking Umbrella Prime(silly simulation base) and getting her on his side, so actual umbrella responded by destroying DC killing Wesker clone and Alice clone. At that point the original Alice(whatever the old lady is supposed to be) conspired with the Red Queen to release one more Alice clone to stop Umbrella's plan to wipe out all of humanity in one final sweep. And all that head canon makes it.........almost watchable.......
I feel like this would make more sense if they just added one scene where we found out that umbrella has been led by a bunch of executives each with their own plans having a xanatos pileup and in the end the last man standing is desperately trying to find a way to make this all one cohesive plot like the most put upon improv actor
My biggest gripe with this series is the constant retconning and discarding of characters from the previous films
In the first movie, Raccoon city was it's own thing. in the second movie it was a renaming of Detroit, in the third and fourth movies they referred to the location of the first movie as "Detroit" and now @15:33 Detroit has lost a lot of square miles of urban sprawl and it has also grown mountains around it.
Not only killing the RE Franchise no now he is going for the monster hunter series😫

Yeah... Glad I stopped actually watching these after the second movie.
Also, in hindsight, now that I know more about the games and so forth, I find it so *laughable* that Umbrella managed to actually last in the the film's universe. Umbrella in the games screwed up and they went under fast thanks to the gathered evidence.

I liked all of the movies except for this one everything about it was just the absolute of lazy. Lazy writing, lazy pacing, lazy editing, lazy action and lazy acting no one cared at all

I get that the Resident Evil CG movies aren't very good. But in all honesty, I would rather watch those than Paul W.S. Anderson's fanfiction. At least the CG movies are akin to the games.
I have all three on DVD, they are *SO MUCH* better it's not even funny.

What is really interesting I found was the traitor part. Recall that when they find the bags there is Alice, Claire, and Claire's bf alive. Well, we know Alice isn't the traitor. That leaves two possibilities. Anderson wouldn't be so smart as to catch the fact that one of the people he has been killing off in each trap could have been the traitor. So that either means Claire is the one working for umbrella which would pretty much implode the already black hole this movie has become, or that it had to be the bf. So with this in mind, there is no shock to the reveal of who the enemy is. In fact if I were Alice I would have known right then who it was. That point had me so angry in the theaters. Like how do you write yourself into a situation where the smoking gun is actually bent backwards facing you point blank?

Been rewatching your resident evil reviews cause they are just awesome but while watching them something kept bothering me everytime wesker showed up and then it hit me he is deadmeat from land of the dead who was also in diary of the dead.
I think bad guy is simply still annoyed that he got friendzoned back in the day.
Hated this movie so much. During the fight where Alice is hanging upside down, it was so badly edited I felt sick watching it. This video is so true that I had to signed up :)

OH YEA. if you want to watch more Capcom zombie movies. there are the CGI Resident Evil movies that are in the game canon universe. Degeneration, Damnation and Vendetta. Also the Dead Rising movies. Zombrex: Dead Rising Sun, japanese spinoff it is supposed to take place in Dead Rising universe but in Japan. And then Dead Rising Watchtower and Dead Rising Endgame which actually takes place between Dead Rising 2 and 3 and has cameos by Frank West and Chuck Greene.
I am no critic, but I enjoyed these movies much more than the WS Anderson Resident Evil movies.

Plus, they were trapped in that room for a time before turning the Red Queen back on. So when they went to the sewers, why didn't they take all those guns with them.

So, despite being a cinephile who hates shitty movies, I sat through all of them. Every one. Every minute. I can honestly say, after Extinction, despite being a fan of Tarkovsky, Lynch etc, I had no fucking idea what was happening, and don't remember a solitary thing.
Clones? Ummm....Wesker. More clones. Apocalypse but not really? Umm...The White House? But never mentioned again? Clones?

Man did they grasp fruitlessly at straws with this piece of hot garbage. I can't wait for a proper Resident Evil series based on the actual games to be made a decade or so from now.
I actually really liked the first two movies. And the Alice character didn't bother me as much as she did other fans. But after Apocalypse, this series just became more and more incoherent as time went on. If Anderson could tell a decent, consistent story it wouldn't be so bad. But everything is completely off the rails by this point and this film just made it even worse.
Reversing the polarity of a 3 phase motor will make it run backwards. i doubt that Anderson knew that, and any electrician would look at you like a moron for saying that, but it is technically correct. you do it by swapping the phases.
They were all garbage.
Kate Beckin-(underworld lass) does the thing and stuff better.
They also skipped the battle they cliff-hangered at the end of the movie before Final chapter (but would have been expensive as fuck with all the CGI).

Oh ye, and if Umbrellas plan was to kill people with the virus and leave the buildings intact, why was their first action after unleashing it to nuke a city? I could kind of get collateral damage from other people fighting the zombies, though they should have seen that coming, but nuking a city was literally the first thing Umbrella did after engaging operation kill people don't damage buildings.
Seriously every time I watch these reviews again a new stupid thing pops up that makes no sense.
This is quite possibly the worst action movie I have ever seen.
The last five movies, while they weren't good, at least the action was decently shot and there are a handful of cool moments in them.
By comparison, The Final Chapter is a total clusterfuck of an action movie with enough shaky-cam and jump cuts to make Olivier Megaton blush.
It also doesn't help that this movie contradicts the events of the last few movies and dips back into clone territory once again. As if we didn't see Alice blowing up the cloning chamber in Retribution.
This is my hated movie of all time, right next to Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem.
This really makes me wonder how horrible his Monster Hunter movie is gonna be, it's already shaping up beautifully.
Puts a Rathalos in modern day Earth, has his wife in it as apparently the lead Hunter who follows it, who then has to train a bunch of army people to fight it with her weapons since it'll supposedly end up being immune to military weapons.
But apparently no palicos, cause he wants to make the film "realistic" as his wife's dimensional hopping character performs backflipping jump kicks to a dimensional hopping fire-breathing Wyvern, and anthropomorphic cats that use weapons & tools to help hunters would just be too ridiculous.
4,472 humans still alive. Wonder how many of those are amongst the umbrella execs Alice blows up.
Oh ye on the people vanishing, apparently they wrote a comic or book or something that just says every single side character that suddenly vanishes died offscreen. So ye all the main characters from the game die offscreen because Anderson doesn't care about anything but Alice.
I hate to give this movie any credance.. but the nonsensical creature that Alice fights just before the end that could've been a licker and made sense.. looks a bit like a regenerator from resi 4. Which also doesn't make any goddamn sense since they were an experiment that didn't even make it out if the lab; making it another "hey! Remember this from the games? Huh? Huh? See? I know about thing or two about this"
At least this franchise is finally fucking over for you. I mean, god forbid they make more. Hell, I'm almost sure if he could Anderson would bring the molded in as a result of the T-Virus and probably have THEM have some connection to Alice. Hell the only reason I think he hasn't tried is Resident Evil 7 is stealth and horror not action. Which if there's one good thing to say about the game is at least it can't be used for more of these stupid movies!
I guess Anderson wanted to make his wife being the bigger psycho than Wiseman as Alice probably murdered thousands of completely innocent people (like the families of the Umbrella execs and other workers who might not even have gone along voluntarily or under false pretenses ...) at least Selene just murdered a handful of people needlessly gruesome.
This was only film in the franchise that I missed at the cinema Deus! I saw all others at the cinema but missing it was blessing in disguise. As I later saw it on DVD at home months later.
So an odd point to make.
The Red Queen is like an autistic war lord that uses Russian combat tactics to contain small outbreaks.
The Red Queen might have been using massive over kill to deal with Wesker. Then getting caught out and trapped in a logical maze until the best Alice came back into the scene.
Of course bad writing can't excuse the logic of the Red Queen's actions.
So... wasn't this movie out or being made around the time the 7th game? You'd think they'd take SOME references from that game since they did it so many times in the previous movies. Guess it wasn't as action packed as the other games?
my mom gave me like 100 bucks in free passes for my birthday. this was the only thing out at the time (january movies am i right) after about 10 mins. i was fucking pist! i even said a loud (didnt mean to just came out) "son of a bitch its one of those shaky shit action movies"
Didn’t like that Alice have all these power. I hope they remake Resident Evil movie but with the game characters as main characters. Rather have normal humans battle supernatural beings like the game.
The editing in this fucking movie is just...fuck! I could forgive the usual plot bullshit and the fact that the ending of the last film blue balls and Making Wesker a bitch to Issacs but I can't even have fun with the dumb action because of the shite editing.
