This Review was better than the film itself

I can't stand Requiem. It's filmed so darkly, that you can't tell what is going on in the scenes for most of the movie.
I agree the script was shit & we could do without the teen drama.
I think it was met to be scary that way

Um... in hindsight, with how bad the characters are, and how shitty the effects that you can see are, is that really such a bad thing?

My Favourite part of this review is at 44.15 when Gary has a nervous breakdown and has to be consoled by Ian

I actually prefer watching you guys react to films you don't enjoy. I work as a set medic on films and I'm always shocked that a new production always wastes money shooting a sequence from a previous film over again. For example, the Last Jedi starts where the Force Awakens ends and they show the same sequence with Rey climbing to Luke and holding out the lightsaber, but for some reason the Last Jedi had to film the sequence over instead of just editing in the scene from the Force Awakens. Such a waste- AND THEN, if they don't maintain continuity, like these people failed to do, it kills the illusion.

I don't understand how people have trouble following the story in Prometheus....
If it was brighter and without humans or dialog this movie would be awesome.
Instead of "Predalien", I call the Predator-Xenomorph hybrid a "Predamorph". It has a better ring to it and it rolls off the tongue better.
Predalien sounds incredibly stupid...just like this movie.
The face Gary makes when listening to Ian lambast "Kelly" for checking out a guy other than her husband is the perfect description of this movie. (Ca 19:20 or so in the video).
And is it me or did they use the SAME Alien scream every time an Alien got killed?

I remember one of the teenage actors on this movies stole one of the alien suits and tried to sell it on E bay.
Also based on the AVP books them not scanning the body was stupid also because they HAVE had instances where the Predators have been face hugged and they as a species consider a Predalien a sacrilege and an abomination
I wonder why instead of killing the predator from the fallen ship, the predalien didn't help the face hugger get him too lol it was an easy way to increase the number xD i mean, the predalien seems pretty smart. It takes trophies and all that. But i guess they really wanted the kid to die lol
I think they tried to fix the issues people had with the first AvP film, but they just didn’t have the budget for good makeup and special Effects, so they shot the film as dark as they possibly could to hide their shortcomings.
People on set have said the practical effects and all that looked great
if the nuke happened in the beginning of the film.....
... i would really have loved this film.
I will say that the directors did the best with what they had with what little money that was given to them. Although I heard it was Fox studios in charge of the editing and lighting of the film, not the directors. If you look at behind the scenes footage and photos all the night shots look very bright and you can see full detail of the Alien and Predator suits.
If they were as dedicated to this movie as they were with Prometheus and Covenent you'd have seen a much better film.

The first one might have issues but I found it a fun stupit movie this one even tho it's r rated makes the first one look like a pice of art
I love the Alien and Predator franchises, and even the original AVP was pretty good, though far too short in running time, and the studio forced the director to make it less gory........but AVPR has to be one of the worst films ever made. i can't believe the studio gave a couple of guys who weren't directors, a great big bundle of money to make the film, and then it was almost unwatchable as the camera angles were and distance were wrong in many of the fight scenes, but what was worse was that the lighting man (if they even had one), probably used the lowest watt bulb he could use to light the film, and as most of it was at night, it meant we all virtually couldn't see what was going on half the time. No wonder the film only got a 12% rating at Rotten Tomatoes!
Remember when you first heard AVP2 would be rated R... and you thought to yourself, "Well this automatically makes it better than the first one."....
....and then you saw the movie....
.....Oh.

It’s very impressive that these guys managed to make the worst film in two franchises at the same time.
What gets me is the female soldier GIVES her 6 year old daughter a £9000 pair of MILITARY GRADE night vision glasses! That type of kit has to be signed for and returned to stores when on you go on leave, not stashed in your luggage and given to a little KID. That constitutes theft of expensive military property, she'd get considerable jail time in a military prison for that!
Props to the deputy who managed to sneak up on a Predator (almost) undetected.

I'm one of the few people who like the first AVP, although it's more a guilty pleasure than anything else, so I was kind of happy when I heard there was a sequel, and I even went to the theater to see it. But it is so bad that I think it ties The Seventh Son for the worst movie ever. I have absolutely nothing good to say about it. One of the things that pissed me off about it the most is that the Predator takes his plasma canon off his shoulder to use it as a handgun for no reason, and it's much less accurate. I realized later is that the only reason that happened is that the teenage idiot could steal it.
It's not bad, certainly better than any other alien or predator movie that came after it.

If you think about it Wolf could be a specialist with predaliens. It must be pretty historically common or xenomorphs would hardly be considered a worthy prey species.
That's not to say the movie portrayal really backs this theory!

Wolf was such a bad ass predator. Its too bad his character was wasted of this movie. I liked how the ending hinted at the Weyland/Yutani cooperation acquiring predator technology.
Anyone who played Predator Concrete Jungle knows how that works out for the future predator hunts on Earth.
The soldiers uniform is all jacked up too. She’s wearing Marine Corps digital camouflage with army name tapes and the cover/hat isnt anything any us military branch wears. They obviously didnt put much effort into this movie

The ending of this film was like a rip-off of Resident evil apocalypse
Never seen so many walkouts in a theater after the maternity ward scene.
I actually went to the cinema to watch this film. Imagine to my surprise whilst in said cinema I thought....this is a bit dark, can anyone see what the actual fuck is going on. Turns out, it's no better on blu ray. Shocking film, yes it's got a bit more gore, and yes the new technology the Predator has is good, but the plot is shit, the acting is shit, and generally you breathe a sigh of relief when the credits roll if you in fact have stayed glued to this film for that long.
The most disturbing scene for me was in the hospital this pregnant woman falls victim to the Predalien... and what it did to her was pretty graphic!

Well the one credit you have to give to this movie and you can't deny this but it actually for the first time ever demonstrates the usefulness of Predator vision, because that's about the only time you can ever actually see anything is through the mask of the predator unless it's daytime

My biggest issue with this film (the darkness is my second biggest issue, the crappy characters the third) is how mean-spirited and gross it is in the interests of being "edgy".
Example 1: A small child being face-hugged and chest-bursted in graphic detail.
Example 2: Pregnant women in a ward being face-raped by the Pred-Alien (along with Skyline, what do the Strause's have against pregnant women??)
The first AvP had its faults, but it was at least fun and had an interesting premise (both films are separate from the Alien and Predator franchises, so don't count). This was just dull, unpleasant and insulting.
I was also disturbed by the boy's death and the scene in the maternity ward, the women being face-raped and the doctor getting his nose cut off (I find nasal injuries very squicky). And, like you, I also kinda liked the first one. It isn't good, but it's fun in a goofy kinda way that I can't help but find endearing. This was just gross and mean-spirited.
I have to disagree, to an extent, with your allegation that it is 'mean-spirited'.
Something that bothers me in disaster/horror/action movies is when children or dogs survive situations where dozens or hundreds or more adult humans are dying. Fireball explosions, lava flows, and yes, interstellar aliens, do not conform to our human moral standards. Much as I love dogs (more than I do people, much of the time), I cringe when the lab outraces the explosion that is racing down the tunnel behind him. Or dozens of other similar circumstances seen in films.
Maybe they could have made the chestbursting bit less graphic (or omitted it entirely), but showing the facehugger getting the kid underscores that these creatures have *zero* sense of morality. They only perceive probable hosts, and go after them.

the predators were aware of the face hugger, treated him, saved his life, then went back to their world, spent several years cloning a predator host, and put a alien facehugger on it to set up the situation again and sacrificed a ship and a crew, just for a amazing hunt for a wolf type predator as a birthday gift
You saying what do i mean? well think about it, they see things about to spiral out of control, catch it, stop it from spiraling out of controll... but then they think.... if we are predators.. shouldnt we play with that idea of a predator getting xenomorphed, crashing a ship and invading a planet it escapes on, and thats why all those face huggers are alive and on the ship, for setting up the situation and helping increase the chances of a full scale xenomorph invasion for the predator to go through
and this becomes their new type of xenomorph hunt scenario and the ysacrifice a ship each time and then haul it back and repair it or use it as a scenario point for future hunts of xenomorphs, humans, and aliens etc
Best thing about this film is WOLF PREDATOR!!! An Absolute BADASS

in all fairness predators always show hostility towards people holding weapons whether they are pointing them at it or not because they see people carrying weapons as a form of challenger of worth while prey so lone wolf killing those two would be normal for him, then again given what his mission is seeming to be contain the threat and eliminate the evidence he does seem to be treating the situation more like a normal hunt than a serious xenomorph outbreak so either hes stupid or he just likes killing things way too much

As an Alien vs Predator movie, this is a weak movie but if you don't care about the Alien and just watch this movie as another Predator sequel where he fights the Alien species despite the weak writing and cut-out characters it is a fun good B movie Predator solo. The movie is loaded with gore and packed with fun Predator moments featuring the most badass Predator ever put to screen thus far in a Predator movie.

Also i would say that i would have given the film one point if lone wolf killed the predalien just as the humans were flying off and before the town was nuked he shot them down as well to make sure nothing escaped, just as a fucking predator would, fuck it if i die but i sure as hell am not letting anything get out of this hell hole to fuck anything else up. Plus the actual ending means he failed, evidence of the aliens and predators got out and for all we know a face hugger is hiding on the chopper
So it terms of ranking all firms with the alien in it, AVP Requiem is next to last, last being AVP. If you cut out all the scenes with humans, the sci-fi action was decent. The fight between Wolf and the Predalien was actually pretty good. But yeah, overall, a big disappointment.
When I first watched this movie years ago I hated it, for all the reasons Gary and Ian point out.
Funny thing though, recently I watched it again and quite enjoyed it. I didn't mind the characters. I liked the Sheriff and the Dallas character. I thought the Predator design was lean and mean. Also, some of the criticisms leveled are unfair. For example, at around 19:15 when they talk about the scene in the restaurant where Kelly and Dallas exchange a knowing glance. Ian interprets that look as sexual attraction, but that's not how I see it. I think Kelly was involved in the backstory of Dallas being arrested for break and enter. It's not a sexual glance, it's a glance of awkward familiarity. They share a common history, after which one went to the army and the other to prison.
However, they are bang on in their criticism about the lighting throughout the movie. Too many scenes are too dark, making it hard to see the action, which is a shame as some of the action is pretty good.
I do agree that pretty much all night or low light scenes are not good. Just can't see a lot but, I will say their day time shoots, I actually like the look of that portion of the film. It's just a shame that all these parts highlight stupid teen drama.

Yes, they're crap, but to be brutally honest, so is the vast majority of American cinema, especially 50's monster movies
