The point about climate change is much more valid than you show in your video. The event Kurzgesagt is discussing is a climate shift that took place in East Africa 2.7 million years ago, long before Homo sapiens and Homo neanderthalis evolved. Sure, some neanderthals may have survived off of plants, but that was long after this climate change event and not really relevant to disputing that point. Kurzgesagt is talking about the climate change that forced Homo habilis to survive on meat. Fossils from that time clearly depict that H. habilis had to scavenge carcasses to survive. They hadn't developed the spears or bows that would eventually allow humans to take down large beasts, but what they DID have was stone tools that could crack bone. Bone marrow was a nutritious resource that most other Pleistocene predators weren't able to access, and so that was how H. habilis survived. While I deeply respect the work he out on his video. His primary issues are black and white fallacies and his focus on proving himself correct rather than a broad look at research and data.
Leonardo DiCuckrio Dang.... Well the Truth prevails though and you can't hide it... Mic will definitely grow more and more in time and become more successful as he is sharing great Truth, evidence, as well as content!
French blue8 it's also too bad that they have such a massive following whilst sharing such untruth. That's a dangerous and deceptive thing as you have a lot of people that trust you and you just outright implant false ideas into people's minds with your influence. They should hire people to handle their data and fact check their work thoroughly at the least (and if they do, well they need better people!)
Hey guys, this is also WITHAMIK but on a different channel! I hate to be self-promoting here but I also did not expect such a positive reaction from such a simple comment I felt I should share! But yeah, it's really surprising to me because I've been getting into vegan discussion a lot lately! So yeahhhh, I do acoustic and songwriter stuff on this channel, Jakeypoo (WITHAMIK is for music production right now only). I hope to eventually have an album touching on these complex topics such as veganism and so on... Currently my music revolves more around how an individual struggles with trying to reach a higher good, yet struggles with all the attachments and problems that arise with living...that's been much of my writing so far for Jakeypoo... I will then extend that to more societal and political issues in time as I grow more as an individual and becoming more conscious, informed, and aware of what is about in the world... And also as I grow as an artist too hopefully. I write my music with as much Truth as I can as I wish to hopefully better this world. I do all my work at home so I have to reach out where I can and here is one of the first times I'm doing so. So hopefully you may connect with my work 🙂 I'm fairly new to to the vegan community, but I really hope to connect more because I've been finding so much of myself in veganism. I went vegan the end of summer last year and have recently become more outspoken. Simply because I'm realizing more and more how the people of this world won't become better people if each of us don't make the attempts to live as greater individuals consciously constantly, and communicating what we can that is True to those that may not understand or ever consider trying to understand... And I've been seriously enjoying engaging in productive, meaningful, and civil discussion in heavy ethical and philosophical topics. Also, I hope anyone reading this knows that I don't want to come across as non-human or as a robot trying to promote a product. I really just typed this all out on my phone because I genuinely wish to hopefully bring much change to the world and others with what I write and the art I make ❤ Because if you check out anything, I'm seriously very grateful 🙂 My music is available on all the digital music platforms, just search Jakeypoo! Thank you thank you thank you and chat with me if you guys wanna ❤
French blue8 listen man i have done zero research so their is a 90% chance I am wrong. But is in fact, not dangerous , I mean if it was dangerous we wouldn’t be eating, the problem is over consumption, a lot of meat will damage your health (like all the food we eat), moderation is important, also the environmental problem are overpopulation and demand problems, not the meat Also they never said “meat is 100% safe”, They said that it is has great nutritional values, but eating a lot of it can increase the risks for some diseases Then again why am I wasting my time? I know how this going to go, We are going to start a reply war which ends in the word “sheep” or blind “follower”
I’m vegan but if you think seitan is healthier than meat, you’re pretty delusional. This shit has no nutrients at all it’s a processed food. Healthwise, meat is much better than seitan.
@@byReZio i wouldn't say meat is healthier than seitan...how is seitan that can mixed with tofu, beats, maybe chickpeas or other vegetables less healthier than real meat ?i'm sure you've heard the negative health effects of meat ? that doesn't really sound right
It’s easier (and less productive) to make a one-sided argument that will appeal to a group of people than to show an issues full complexity by considering a large portion of the data, reviewing the pros and cons of each position and admitting that certain questions are still unanswered and up for debate. Kurzgesagt’s latter approach (the full presentation of the facts rather than one side of them) did a good job cautioning meat eaters of the perils of eating too much meat while also not falsely claiming that eating any amount of meat is bad - the evidence frankly does not give this indication. I am not condemning vegetarians or vegans, I am just saying that those two are not the only healthy (nor are they necessarily the healthiest) diets one can have. Studies that point to that conclusion are often confounded by other variables, such as, as Kurzgesagt points out, the generally healthier lifestyle led by vegans.
Why are we assuming that vegans lead generally healthier lifestyles? We have junk food vegans and we have meat eaters who also are also health conscious. This “healthy user bias” gets thrown around a lot but is there any evidence to back that up? It’s just a lazy way for you to dismiss evidence that doesn’t support your conclusion.
@@happygimp0 yep you can, kinda, river non-predators fish dosent have significant amounts of mercury. And would you be 100% healthY only eating potatoes or cabbage? No of course you wouldnt.

zaco 2121 I’m guessing you hate videos made with citations and facts made by vegans but you’ll believe an opinion piece by a meat eater or accept biased cherry picked studies.
@@burdenofexisting6886 And you're wrong. You can guess that Africans are purple and you're just as right. It's the other way around. This is an opinion piece made with cherry picked studies. Yes, it's inconvenient for you. The meat eater made a video with citations and facts. Quite interesting how you've put it. The "meat eater" put up cherry picked studies while this video has "citations". Well, that meat eater has put citations too and this "vegan" definitely put up cherry picked studies to prove his point. He didn't take into account that vegetarians excercise more, for example. Also, very interesting how you've put it, the "vegan" gave facts whi le the meat eater posted "an opinion piece". It's the other way around.
Not even that. Saying meat is healthy becausethere is a realy, reeealy small population in an extreme climate that survive almost entirely of meat specifically because there are no plants in their region is such a dumb argument.
@@elpretender1357 It's also not even true, the Inuit never ate exclusively meat, but they probably ate a higher proportion of animal products in their diet than, say, the Tarahumara, and their health suffered for it, as evidenced by their mummies.

And as Mic observes at the beginning of this video, they didn't refer to the sources correctly in their video. Which doesn't make them "sources" but more like "here's some links and we'll pretend we studied and understood them." :(
@@LoreleiMission Word for word Mic says "Alright, let's look at what they missed or misconstrued about meat while using the research linked in the description, something they didn't do in their video which frustrates me." Mic has a good video and I do think Kurzgesagt was biased but let's make sure we have our facts straight before we go throwing accusations around.
But thing is those reports are very incorrect due to lack of resources and skill not to mention researchers being tipped off by rising sugar industries back in the 60s were these reports took place. Since then there have been dozens of reports saying that cholesterol in the meats had a very minor to no negative health effect on your body, same thing done with saturated fats and protein being bad for your heart and liver. Last thing is that most people substitute big meaty meals with snacks that are most the time processed food which normal are high in carbs, sodium, and sugar which are all a much bigger recipe for disaster than meat

"It's a team of animators that don't think they're necessarily nutritional researchers" Wow you got that so wrong. Animation is their own separate team. They have writers and it's their job to do research, talk to experts and handle the script. Shows that you don't do research and if you can't even handle trivial stuff like that I wouldn't trust you with more complicated stuff.
Their video got me thinking tho, if they got so much wrong on this topic, how many more things do they get wrong or leave out of other topics I know nothing about and just take their word for it. For someone who has no idea about nutrition, that video is the be-all end-all of all knowledge about meat consumption. And also, they're not scientists, they're youtubers. They tell people what they want to hear in order to grow. These short educational videos are kind of scary.
@@hat_maker They deleted their addiction video after reconsidering how it was made. I don't know if they made another one, that might be the one you are talking about.
They have been very open about their process, admitting fault on videos that recieve criticism and even taking them down if they think it's warrented. Legitimacy is very important to them, and they have extremely extensive sources sites.google.com/view/sourcesismeathealthy/startseite?authuser=0 - far more in-depth than I've seen from any other youtuber. Of course they're not scientists, scientists do research. It's the job of media organizations like Kurzgesagt to package information in a way that is understandable to general audiences. They bring in multiple experts for every video they do - they referenced 5, 3 by name for this video in that sources link. They're not perfect by any means, even with that amount of rigor it's hard to consistently make bulletproof videos, and while Mic found some flaws in their video, he is extremely biased and misinterpreted a lot of what they said in an attempt to make a more biting response video himself. Personally I respect their ATTEMPT at being unbiased. Even if they don't always succeed, at least they try.
Please don't start thinking like this. Consider that Kurzegesagt is run by a team of researchers that try their hardest to remain neutral in every topic whereas Mic is literally one guy, not a scientist, a vegan trying to defend the vegan lifestyle. Yes he got a lot of things right, but he also cherry picks a lot of his sources to "debunk" other scientific data that doesn't fit his agenda. They've recently made a video about their process of making videos, I advise you check it out, because they most definitely are not "just youtubers and not scientists". Please understand that science is far from exact, and contradicting scientific studies come out literally all the time. There is very little consensus, especially concerning biology, so that's why Kurzgesagt tries to push the "do nothing in extremes but everything in moderation as best as possible" idea.
Are you joking about the respectful part? He was titled the whole time. At one point I think he was mimicking it and mocking what are talking about. I think some of his points about the video are good and it’s fine for him to represent his points how ever he wants but we must be watching 2diff videos lol
simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oblate_spheroid An oblate spheroid is a famous shape. It is the shape of the Earth and some other planets. It is like a sphere squashed from the top so the diameter from pole to pole is less than the diameter from equator to equator. Shapes of this type are called ellipsoids. Oblate spheroids have rotational symmetry around an axis from pole to pole.[1] Many planets, including the Earth and Saturn, are oblate spheroids. The difference between a sphere and the Earth's shape is small, only about one part in 300. Stars spin, and some spin very fast. The faster the spin, the flatter the oblate spheroid. The Sun rotates at 2 km per second, neutron stars have speeds of thousands of km/sec.[2] Origin of flattening In 1687 Isaac Newton published the Principia. He included a proof that a rotating self-gravitating fluid body in equilibrium takes the form of an oblate ellipsoid of revolution (a spheroid).[3] The amount of flattening depends on the density and the balance of gravitational force and centrifugal force. In other words, the Earth is a spheroid because it rotates. Gas giants like Jupiter and Saturn are flattened by rotation more than the Earth.
Here's the simple objective truth: Kurzgesagt's video delivers the information in the most neutral and simple way the they can in less than 10 minutes You just spend 19 minutes angrily criticizing them by neat picking and calling on figures and scientific terms in a way that most people will have a hard time connecting to. Simply put, who's videos do you think will help improve the image of veganism? I, personally, think your videos actually promote antagonism towards the idea for anyone who's an outside viewer on this topic.

Meat is not unhealthy as long as you eat it only once or twice a week. Cigarettes aren't unhealthy as long as you only smoke once or twice a day. Yeah, good luck with that.
@@Cuasimodo2372 yes they are true. My point was that most can't do that when you factor addiction, convenience, and traditions. Meat and cigarettes are not healthy but can be tolerated with no I'll effects at low quantities. Consumption of these products in the US are too high even when thought to be used in moderation. People like to argue that Blue Zone populations eat meat. But their diets are a lot more plant based (high in fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains) than the way we eat in the US. With veganism there is no "moderation" or "once in a while." The commitment was made at decision to become vegan. There's no such thing as cheat days when it comes to animal foods as a vegan. Cheat days on plant based diets can easily bring you back to the SAD. That's why I said, "good luck with that"
Meat is so unhealthy, that 100% of people that eat meat die because of it, right? people die at ages of 80, 90, 100 even 110, AND EAT MEAT. It has been like that for CENTURIES. But nooooo some offended vegans get sad because that little cute chicken died to feed someone. I've eaten meat my whole life, never had any health problem, im not overweight, i don't have fat, i do sports. No one in my family was vegan, most of them lived up to ~90 years old. We are animals just like every other animal and we are at the top of the food chain, deal with it
40 seconds in the video: " they didn't link articles in the description" that is not true!! there's a very long and well organized page with all the sources. I feel like you're being too harsh on Kurzgesagt when it's actually one of the channels that made me do more research about meat, and partially thanks to them I'm vegan now. I feel like they're doing a great job at approaching people by being a bit neutral, as you'll never instantly convert a meat lover (as I used to be) into a vegan. You need channels like kurzgesagt that make you feel more curious and scheptical about things, so you can then do your own research.
Kurzgesagt vid certainly helps get the conversation going, where as this video feels allot more confrontanal and i could see many turning away and getting defensive, the area of diet is also very contentious because there are many studies on both sides of most of these issues (unlike the jab he makes at the flat eatherers) and theres still allot we dont fully understand when it comes to diet, and what may work for a certain population may not work quite as well for others as we are also just really starting to really understand the difference in genetics and diet as well. It also felt like the jab at carnovor dieters with the steak was alittle aggressive, there are vegans that also focus on maybe 1 or 2 types of veggies as well and dont get proper health, the same can be said with any kind of diet, focusing on 1 very specific type of food in any diet will lead to health issues, most Carno dieters i know eat a pretty balanced diet for whats allowed, as most people i know cant really stand eating the same thing every day, for too long anyway. Variaty is the spice of life. its also a shame not many of these videos bring up the difference between regions as well, as someone growing up in northwestern ontario, well the fish we eat are primarly lake fish which do mitigate the health risks somewhat (being a very unpopulated area near start of water chain), the cattle farms around here also have much lower impact on the enviorment due to high rains naturally and grazing, all these things change the cost and effect of diets considerably on a per region bases, whats true in 1 area is not true for others, though industrial anything typically comes with much higher risks in general, profit is king afterall for large scale food production. For me, i lived what could be considered a pretty unhealthy but typical western diet for most of my life (tho high in some junk foods for awhile) not very high in meat but high in processed carbs like white rice and pastas, I was over 400lbs when i went on a Keto diet, i am down about 100lbs over the course of a year and working with a clinic my health is monitored deeply, (i get blood tests and other checks done every 3-6 months) I am considerably healthier in all tested levels since starting this diet and I eat primarly meat right now, though not high in processed meats, before I was at high risk of diabities and those warning signs have all disappeared and i now have near perfect blood surger and have kept it that way since starting this diet. I had a fatty liver and that has disappeared, and my diet currently would be considered highly controversial to some (i typically only eat once a day now, and only consume about 1200 cal a day and feel satisified due to the high protein and fat of my meals) This diet shouldnt become the normal, but it shows that there are healthy options on both sides for different types of bodies, now this wont be a diet il be sticking with as once i get down to my target weight (around 180) il start to phase out to a low carb more mediterranean diet, but il tell you one thing, being in Ketosis, refined carbs really do feel like a poison, even most veggies i need to be careful of, and fruit for the most part is out of the question due to the high surger content. Its a journey with my body in finding what works for me specificly. This diet experence has really opened my eyes in how adaptive the human body is and how crazy things can be, stuff like ketones and ketosis changes allot of how the body processes food, and i wonder how many other things like this are out there and how much we may not understand yet. I know since starting this diet my body signals come in much more clear, i feel when im lacking something allot easier then i used to, my body overall just feels like it communicates much better now. In the end i'm all for everyone doing their own research and actually getting invested into their diets, its a good conversation to have and its a very complicated subject on so many levels that its important when doing videos to come at this in a way you will draw people in and encourage them to do more research. No diet is perfect and no diet is 1 size fits all, but starting people on this path and helping people find what fits them is important. Sorry for the huge wall of text, kinda got crazy there lol just wanted to tell my story abit.

I'm glad you brought up the heavy metals in fish. But, you didn't mention the oxalates and other chemicals found in some of the healthiest foods. I do believe the studies claiming the negative effects of meat are flawed. The meat eaters will likely have been consuming lots of unhealthy substances. There is no perfect answer.
I'm puzzled by the idea of "health in isolation" idea - assuming that people can be "healthy" by eating animals raised in a polluted and progressively barren environment. I'm regularly harassed by meat eaters claiming that you need meat for nutrition, but why are they so sure the food is actually nutritious? That fish with mercury and pieces of plastic in it's stomach? That cancer-ridden and antibiotic-pumped "grass-feed" animal that has never seen light of day? And to eat it, while knowing it's literally sponsoring deforestation!?
This is why i don't like animated educational videos. Most of the times they are not made by people that actually know what they are talking about. I prefer videos where they talk in person like you are, Mic. Plus all the sources you give, chef kiss.
Ugh yeah that video urked me. And their last one on meat was good until the very end when they threw everything they said was bad about meat out the window and said, well meat tastes good so you should just enjoy it when you have it! *face palm
I kind of get your point Mic, but watching kurzgesagt video I didn't get the idea that meat is healthy...nor unhealthy, it clearly states that there is a lot of debate and the answer isn't simple. It just presents facts without getting emotional about it and makes you want to know more about it. It is a video that meat eaters can watch without feeling attacked and maybe they'll start questioning their diet. Not the same thing can be said about you: "Mic the vegan" you preach to the vegans...you'll never be watched by anyone who isn't already a vegan. So overall kurzgesagt sure makes a better service to your cause than you do...
kurzgesagt said "fish can be eaten regularly without worries" not fish can be eaten a lot without worries not that you can eat it as much as you want without worries.

instead of being so offensive maybe consider that he's helping by pushing people to consume less meat in their diet. Not a lot of people are capable and willing to completely cut meat out of their diet overnight so a slower reduction of meat consumption is much better than people turning a blind eye of veganism because of the very vocal sometimes over the top vegan community.

Good job Mic! Just a few extra things to add: At 2:14 in the original their takeaways from the cited study are wrong. The study states that the inuit show genetic signatures of adaptation to climate and diet. Nowhere does it state that the inuit are able to withstand the harsh climate due to only eating meat. At 3:45 in the original they misrepresent the findings of a study again. The study they cite concludes that replacing saturated fat with n-6 PUFA is unlikely to reduce instances of heart disease, not that saturated fat plays no role. Nowhere does it talk about cholesterol levels being genetic. The study they cite criticizes the findings of "flawed" meta analyses but is itself a "flawed" meta analysis of observational studies so its findings are not of the highest quality. At 7:10 in the original says there is nothing unlealthy about eating meat. Some things Mic left out are carnitine, horomones, and the inflammatory effect of animal protein on our kidneys.
Great video, I noticed these points when watching the same video and someone in a comment mentioned your video. I love that there is anyone putting videos out saying "hey think about what youre doing." No matter what anyone else says I always go back to the sun. If I have to go through more living things to get to the sun's energy, I am going to change what I am doing. It can be really disappointing sometimes where good sources of information can be super bias at times. But really you only have to look at how UA-cam works. In reality presenting yourself as neutral gets your hands tied pretty tight. It doesn't mean you're objective it means you can't take a controversial position and thats exactly whats playing out with Kurzgesagt. They try to at least present all the information to you but in such a way that doesn't start a mob among their audience even if its the truth. What this does is creates factions and means there can't be an objective truth indeed its what creates the situation where you have to go to a Vegan for honest information about Vegans. Then people will call that bias but thats not the problem at all.
Lol I like how they talked about the fish doing some environmental damage, but they don’t talk about the amount of farm land that is used to feed the animals we eat.
Regarding people trying to reduce how much meat they eat.... I had once considered doing the Mediterranean diet because my friends were doing it and losing weight. So I did a little research about it and it adamantly recommends only eating meat about twice a week. (I was vegetarian and was going to sub tofu or something for the meat). However every single weekly meal plan I found had at least one serving of meat, EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! Also, I think it is very hard to reduce consumption of most things, because when I want to cut down on something, I suddenly start craving it and eating more of it than before I decided to cut down LOL.
I like how a biased person is saying that people who are trying not to be biased are biased. When I watched the video I always thought kurzgasard were pro-vegan

This relation between the two reflects the bioavailability of those nutrients. The researches found (OV = omnivore, VG = vegetarian, VN = vegan): "Magnesium intake was significantly positively correlated with Mg status in the OVs (r = 0.288, p = 0.011) but not the two other groups (VG: r = 0.056, p = 0.723; VN: r = 0.118, p = 0.451). Iron intake was positively correlated with PF in the OV (r = 0.247, p = 0.030) and the VG (r = 0.331, p = 0.030) groups but not the VN group (r = 0.168, p = 0.281). Zn intake was also significantly positively correlated with Zn status in OV subjects (r = 0.301, p = 0.008) but not in the two other groups (VG: r = 0.040, p = 0.800; VN: r = 0.020, p = 0.901)." This indicated that plants' bioavailability of iron, zinc and magnesium is low, which is reflected in the blood samples in Table 2.
His animal agriculture one was solid based on what I know, but yeah it had me wondering about the validity of some of the other videos on topics I don't know much about
Many paleo youtubers use that adventist 2 study along with blue zone diets to push for fish consumption. The study showed pescatarians lived longer than all the other groups.
To be fair, I was once convinced of the healthiness of meat. I was convinced by Weston A Price. I wasn't looking for good news about bad habits, I really wanted to be healthy and there was a time when I was really upset and depressed because I couldn't understand how we could be created to be so compassionate and empathic and yet be forced to kill other living, conscious beings in order to just live. I mean I know this world can be a little crappy at times, but how could that be true? So for me, that we do not need to eat animals to live and thrive is very good news indeed.
Unfortunately plants are living too, even though they don't have a brain. Eating animals and plants are just the way of life. We aren't doing anything criminal as long as we don't kill their species off. They are too primitive to have emotion on a deeper level and only really care about the survival of the species at the end of the day. It's okay to eat animals as long as we do it responsibly. There should always be new animals of the species.
@@Bruhs246 Eating meat, and especially meat from the animal agricultural system causes extreme suffering. Do plants suffer? Maybe but it's definitely not on the same level. And what about fruit? Fruit exists for the express purpose of eating. So there's that. According to the Vedas there is a way to eat meat that is acceptable. The way to do it is to promise your victim and know that this will come to pass, that they will get to kill you and eat you in the next life.

Just because we have some health issues by eating TOO MUCH meat doesn’t mean we are ultra strict herbivores, plants can also cause bad health problems like excess of carbohydrates or a lot of fiber

If they told the truth, a huge chunk of their audience would dislike it, and they would lose views in the future. It's as simple as that. I mean, if we were living in a society that does not outlaw rape, and these guys decided to make a video on that topic, they would most likely say something like: "...sure, but the forced intercourse is undoubtedly pleasurable for at least one of the individuals involved, and we, as humans, tend to seek pleasure. However, let's not forget that the violated person is less likely to enjoy the action." Saying "Rape is Wrong" would displease the rapers, the same way as saying "Eating Meat is Wrong" would displease the... well, this people in denial.
Hey Mic, gotta say, I'm not a fan of consuming a ridicously high meat diet, which probably comes from bad raising etc. I was vegan for 2 years, I had constant struggles with my stomach, high insulin spikes which lead to moodyness and lots of craving. I started keto after,( low meat consumption). If I do, I get the local grass fed(let's not have the discussion of ethics). I feel very aware, focused, with a clean energyline, no moodyness, no cravings, just feeling so much more better then on a vegan diet(for me). I respect everyone, it's good some people switch to veganism, even tho it's only a powerful choice if you consume local and saisonary when we consider CO2 emmisions etc. Anyways have a good day peeps, love y'all, greetings

Thanks for making a response to this video! 🙏🏼😊 I do like their channel and find their videos fun and informative, but I appreciate more your fact checking and fun debunking!
I have to disagree with you on how you claim people left his video feeling. His videos about meat, both positive and negative facts, have been the closest to making me cut down on meat consumption. Vegan and vegetarian videos are usually too biased and just insult meat eaters calling them murderers, where as this video talked about both sides of the argument.
In my opinion, this is a childish criticism that I’ve seen a lot of non-vegans say. There are many activism tactics you can use to reach a person. There are many activists that are aggressive and there are many activists that are very polite and formal. Regardless of what tailors to you, the fact that you don’t like such a tactic has no bearing on whether or not the tactic actually works. You can go to their videos and see that they have a decent following and comment saying that their tactics changed their minds. Vegan gains is a very aggressive UA-camr, and he uses humor in the form of insults and jokes when making response videos. A lot of people hate him but, a lot of people also like him as well. A tactic that doesn’t work for you will likely work for someone else. That said, the reason why a vegan would call you a murderer is because of the fact “murder” has two different definitions. One of them applies to animals since they are a “someone”and not a “something.” But you’re either not aware or, you are aware and/or don’t care. Assuming you live in a first world country and consume meat and dairy, the animal agriculture industry is being paid by you to slaughter billions of animals. When you purchase animal products, that keeps a steady demand for those products to be returned to the shelf. In order to do that, they have to keep slaughtering animals to satisfy the demand of you wanting steak, cheese, eggs and milk in stores. If you can sustain your life on a plant based diet, then you as a first world citizen who buys their food in the grocery store has insufficient justification to purchase animal products when you can easily purchase plant products that are cheaper. It’s unnecessary for you to do so, therefore you’re aiding in the unjustified death and suffering of sentient creatures. Kind of sounds like “murdering” someone. Do you think Chinese citizens hosting and attending the Yulin Dog festival would appreciate you calling them murderers? It’s a part of their culture and it’s normal to them. But since murdering has very negative connotations to it, a person would feel very defensive about being called a murderer.
A study shows that eating unprocessed meat alone does not increase the risk of death from all causes. "Over the course of the study, more than 36,000 study participants died. The increased risk of premature death was only observed in those who had at least one unhealthy lifestyle factor in addition to high consumption of animal protein: being either obese or underweight, consuming alcohol heavily, having a history of smoking or being physical inactive, according to a press release. Healthy individuals did not appear to have an increased risk of early death." The old study from the 1980's, if analysed, shows the same result! The original researchers did not take into consideration the fact that many people who ate a lot of meat also smoked, were obese etc.source: health.usnews.com/wellness/articles/2016-08-01/meat-consumption-linked-to-early-death-study-says

Yes! Thank you so much for that! Their video was just missing so much information and seemed to lack research ! I'm really disappointed to learn through this experience that their channel is very biased.

That's a dangerous and deceptive thing as you have a lot of people that trust you and you just outright implant false ideas into people's minds with your influence.
So hopefully you may connect with my work 🙂
I'm fairly new to to the vegan community, but I really hope to connect more because I've been finding so much of myself in veganism.
I really just typed this all out on my phone because I genuinely wish to hopefully bring much change to the world and others with what I write and the art I make ❤
Because if you check out anything, I'm seriously very grateful 🙂
My music is available on all the digital music platforms, just search Jakeypoo!
Thank you thank you thank you and chat with me if you guys wanna ❤

But is in fact, not dangerous , I mean if it was dangerous we wouldn’t be eating, the problem is over consumption, a lot of meat will damage your health (like all the food we eat), moderation is important, also the environmental problem are overpopulation and demand problems, not the meat

I like seitan instead of meat. My digestive system can handle gluten. My microbiome is awesome.
I’m vegan but if you think seitan is healthier than meat, you’re pretty delusional. This shit has no nutrients at all it’s a processed food. Healthwise, meat is much better than seitan.
@@byReZio i wouldn't say meat is healthier than seitan...how is seitan that can mixed with tofu, beats, maybe chickpeas or other vegetables less healthier than real meat ?i'm sure you've heard the negative health effects of meat ? that doesn't really sound right

soul in a body Because meat can’t be mixed with beans?
I don't pamper my digestive system when it comes to vegan food. I like to eat edamame outer pods too (cooked of course). My microbiome is/are tough.
Generally correct, but they also make some claims that are just false. For example the claims about the Inuits or that you can eat fish without worry.

I know their addiction video received a lot of criticism as well
@@hat_maker They deleted their addiction video after reconsidering how it was made.
Mobotman correction, they took it down after being called out (by YTber coffee break) on how inaccurate it was
Please don't start thinking like this.

15:31 No Mic, it's an oblate spheroid.
The new people to the channel are going to tear you to shreds! :(
no its flat like a bed
simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oblate_spheroid
An oblate spheroid is a famous shape. It is the shape of the Earth and some other planets. It is like a sphere squashed from the top so the diameter from pole to pole is less than the diameter from equator to equator. Shapes of this type are called ellipsoids.
Oblate spheroids have rotational symmetry around an axis from pole to pole.[1]
Many planets, including the Earth and Saturn, are oblate spheroids. The difference between a sphere and the Earth's shape is small, only about one part in 300.
Stars spin, and some spin very fast. The faster the spin, the flatter the oblate spheroid. The Sun rotates at 2 km per second, neutron stars have speeds of thousands of km/sec.[2]
Origin of flattening
In 1687 Isaac Newton published the Principia.
@Mark Woods, no, eggs are oblate spheroids. The earth is a flat surface.
She might now be a perfect sphere but she’s beautiful just the way she is!

"mic the vegan" ( which i don't know at all) is either lying on purpose to make his arguments stronger or is not capable if reading a description. In any case for me is impossible to take seriously a person like this and i am going to look for information elsewhere
Thanks for this video! When I first watched the Kurzgesagt video I was so disappointed in it. I kept on saying there is so much data and other good studies supporting that meat is harmful. I was shocked with the biasness of the video. Good response video!
So glad kurzges is here defending the video.
As a german, your various spellings of "kurzgesagt" are hilarious😂👍
I was hoping you would do this video! Cheers :) Can you do a video addressing Dr. Mike's 30 Day Vegan video?
That challenge was so bad. Four weeks. Two weeks he was in caloric deficit and suddenly veganism is the reason he couldn't go to the gym. A doctor that doesn't plan his own meals. And that box of food he got. I don't know any vegans who eat like that.
@@addyz0r Yes, extremely bad role model. He should be ashamed.
Ohh!, yeah that was ridiculous, I'd love to see Mic's take on that, though he'd probably say it's "ridiculous". lol
*Mic the Vegan* [8:27]: _"In certain species of fish there's also high levels of TMAO…"_
- It's TMA (trimethylamine), not TMAO, which may then be converted into TMAO by the liver.
Ok…and the point is? It eventually becomes TMAO unless you don’t eat it and don’t have a liver to digest it
Kurzgesagt did actually link their research in the description of their video.
Fire might have been first used to roast plant tubers to make them easier to digest (and tastier). E.g., raw potato vs. roasted potato.
Yes. Plus they cite sources on the description.
How do people still think meat is a health food in 2019?
Delusional!!!!

I’ve been researching the effect of meat on health, and I find it very conflicting. It’s so frustrating.
Probably because people have different bodies, and therefore, different nutritional needs
Keto is the future
@TheRealJimmySaville now then now then lol
I'm puzzled by the idea of "health in isolation" idea - assuming that people can be "healthy" by eating animals raised in a polluted and progressively barren environment. I'm regularly harassed by meat eaters claiming that you need meat for nutrition, but why are they so sure the food is actually nutritious? That fish with mercury and pieces of plastic in it's stomach? That cancer-ridden and antibiotic-pumped "grass-feed" animal that has never seen light of day? And to eat it, while knowing it's literally sponsoring deforestation!?
Your prompt response time to these videos is amazing!

No food is generally bad. The quality and quantity of the food is what makes the difference.
This is why i don't like animated educational videos. Most of the times they are not made by people that actually know what they are talking about.

Yes! Talk about a non sequitur.
There are technologies that enable warriors/ mostly travelers to simply not have the need to eat, it is after all the dream of establishing "no hunger forever". Am sure there are technologies that we are aware of now for "creation of organ parts" for people on death beds. Similarly there can be (very little effort required) "Creation of food infinitely" technology that can produce what is "food". Food is not necessarily an animal, it will soon just become a "thing which is food". It is very important step on what we decide that thing should be! - this will be deciding factor for human existence at one point.

@@hereb4theend close.... synthetic just makes it look like its not real. Well, you see the generation of kidney from a DNA strand is now possible for implantation of kidney (the videos have now been deleted, but this is successful and doesn't take much time to generate a body part). This tech can be used for infinite food generation, however meat is naturally unhealthy, till such time that humans realize that sustenance is not dependent on meat, I doubt its going to be implemented. We can generate large amounts of cereals, rice, staple food like legumes, parts of plants, effortlessly without worrying about crops, insects and so on
there is a concept of soul, it is mostly 100% true. instead of being so offensive maybe consider that he's helping by pushing people to consume less meat in their diet. Not a lot of people are capable and willing to completely cut meat out of their diet overnight so a slower reduction of meat consumption is much better than people turning a blind eye of veganism because of the very vocal sometimes over the top vegan community.
True I understand want you are saying but the video made it like meat is not that bad when in fact me is super toxic because meat and all animal products increase igf-1 which increase all stages of cancer and tumors. Animal based protein lead to osteoporosis and joint inflammation and kidney damage, heart disease. Telling some one to do less animal based foods but that does not work for most because they would leave that video thinking chicken is health lol.

Good job Mic! Just a few extra things to add:
At 2:14 in the original their takeaways from the cited study are wrong.
Daniel MS protein kidneys for sure! Gotta do a while video on kidneys

Thank you so much
Even if it were true that meat served an important role, we are not living in that era. Times have changed, a lot.

About that Swiss study on the micronutrient status of omnivores, vegetarians and vegans: The interesting aspect of this study is that they compared the micronutrient dietary intake to the nutrient concentration measured in the blood. This relation between the two reflects the bioavailability of those nutrients. The researches found (OV = omnivore, VG = vegetarian, VN = vegan):
"Magnesium intake was significantly positively correlated with Mg status in the OVs (r = 0.288, p = 0.011) but not the two other groups (VG: r = 0.056, p = 0.723; VN: r = 0.118, p = 0.451). Iron intake was positively correlated with PF in the OV (r = 0.247, p = 0.030) and the VG (r = 0.331, p = 0.030) groups but not the VN group (r = 0.168, p = 0.281). Zn intake was also significantly positively correlated with Zn status in OV subjects (r = 0.301, p = 0.008) but not in the two other groups (VG: r = 0.040, p = 0.800; VN: r = 0.020, p = 0.901)."
This indicated that plants' bioavailability of iron, zinc and magnesium is low, which is reflected in the blood samples in Table 2.
If you have to moderate consumption of a food, maybe none is best. No one ever told you to moderate consumption of blueberries.
But they would tell you to moderate consumption of perhaps dried blueberries (sugar concerns) or blueberry pies.

Meat has very little iron, the most iron has red lentils.
Many paleo youtubers use that adventist 2 study along with blue zone diets to push for fish consumption. The study showed pescatarians lived longer than all the other groups.
I wouldn't eat meat ever again no matter what anybody says. It's disgusting!!
What about cruelty free lab/cultured meat in the future?
To be fair, I was once convinced of the healthiness of meat. I was convinced by Weston A Price. I wasn't looking for good news about bad habits, I really wanted to be healthy and there was a time when I was really upset and depressed because I couldn't understand how we could be created to be so compassionate and empathic and yet be forced to kill other living, conscious beings in order to just live. I mean I know this world can be a little crappy at times, but how could that be true? So for me, that we do not need to eat animals to live and thrive is very good news indeed.
@@hubertkam7647 It's still a much kinder choice

If they told the truth, a huge chunk of their audience would dislike it, and they would lose views in the future. It's as simple as that.
I mean, if we were living in a society that does not outlaw rape, and these guys decided to make a video on that topic, they would most likely say something like:
"...sure, but the forced intercourse is undoubtedly pleasurable for at least one of the individuals involved, and we, as humans, tend to seek pleasure. However, let's not forget that the violated person is less likely to enjoy the action."
Saying "Rape is Wrong" would displease the rapers, the same way as saying "Eating Meat is Wrong" would displease the... well, this people in denial.
Hey Mic, gotta say, I'm not a fan of consuming a ridicously high meat diet, which probably comes from bad raising etc.

One of them applies to animals since they are a “someone”and not a “something.”
But you’re either not aware or, you are aware and/or don’t care.
