    A covered wrap around deck is great for future expansions just keep in mind what they will be . I will give you a few tips . Wire the house to the plan all the wires will end up in the same place any way at a breaker box it will not matter how it will be feed you have all the opps solar wind gen or grid ,I split mine with heavy loads like my kitchen counter on a circuit that runs on the gen and my lights and xplore net and sat off the solar you wont need a big solar set up that way. The problem with a wrap around deck is you lose natural light so think about sky lights or light tubes .Also when you frame in your windows make sure the header height is to door specs so if you add on an later just pull the window and put in a door. Just some lessons I learned the hard way.

    Hi , I built my shop about 30 years ago and it is 24x32 which I found out at the time was the most efficient use of material with minimal waste.Rather that go with a 10' wall which required using 2x6s for the walls, I went with an 8' wall, 4/12 24' scissor trusses which gave me about an extra 18'' of height in the center so that I would have lots of room to swing 4x8 sheets of material to go into my table saw which was set just off of center of the shop without worrying about taking out overhead lights etc. A few of my friends have told me that that it would making a nice cabin. I've thought about it over the years and it would with a few cosmetic changes make a dandy cabin on a secluded acreage. Its just the right size to have the bedroom/bath on one side of the bldg and the kitchen/dining/ living room on the other. Lots of possibilities. Maybe I will get ambitious and knock one together.Good luck with your build.

    The wrap around deck will be great.. I love old farm house's that have the covered porches on one or more sides, they just look so homey and peaceful. I guess they built them that way because back then they spent more time on the porches because of no air conditioning and there were no computer's and laptops to keep you sitting inside at a desk.. LOL Our house I had built about 30 years ago has 3000 sq feet heated & cooled area with small deck on the front and a 12x28' deck on the back. If I had it to do over, it would have deck/porch on three or four sides, probably covered.

      Mapleberry Farm - Off Grid Living LOL when I built the first camp had some teenagers helping out. my plans were rolled up in the bow of the boat. One of the teens asked "so do you know what you are doing or making it along the way?" I told him the plans were in my head. Always had a certain nack even as a kid. if I could draw it I could build it and vice versa. When I was about 14 my brother who was 9 years older dropped off a wooden boat and said "fix it". I wrestled with that boat for about two weeks that summer. when I finished it looked brand new.

    Really like this set up, the wife made me promise in exchange for permission to build our place on our new property that she gets a wrap around porch. Your blue print fits the bill with that and is simple enough I think I could still handle it myself. I think I will be ordering that same or similar blueprint. Have you by any chance done a breakdown ESTIMATE of cost of materials??? I figured now that you have the parts list you could get a general idea of how much it is going to run you for the materials on that list. I know prices will range, but wondering if I would be surprised by the cost with out labor. Thanks.

      After recently watching a video of your wife discussing your baby losses, it saddened me as we struggled similarly. We have a girl and a boy and everything was picture perfect (except the girl was breach but easily handled). Then, we decided to try for a third...that's when the miscarriages started. We lost 4 in a row, and one was a second trimester loss, which was the hardest thing I ever had to deal with. But we kept trying, and now we have our youngest boy.

      I asked before i did anything yesterday the inspector said it has to be an engineer design if i have a plan for wooden plan lol i would prefer the concrete floor knowing that it would last longer but the plan on line is cheaper than buying in Ontario they are trying to sell me close to $7000 just for a 24×24 vs under $50 online what a scam

    • @MBFModernHomesteading
      @MBFModernHomesteading  3 роки тому +1

      @@simplybeautifullandscaping5895 Whatever you prefer. but I would do some more research if it is longevity you are after as concrete doesn't last any longer than screw piles and a wood floor. But again, it all depends on what you want. You can easily find this info on the internet but concrete can break down at 50 years, screw piles are good for 75 years and wood can last a long time in the right conditions as many old buildings are built that way. Again, conditions, etc etc etc come in to play. All the best with yours either way. We will probably do concrete pads on our outbuildings going forward as it is so darn easy to build off :)

      It was my first alone. However i used screw piles instead of piers and didn't follow this plan, as I built mine pretty much out of my head. It was still a 24 x 24 however until I added an extension this year.

    i live in nb as well and am debating dragging my mini home on to land or selling it and building something, just curious how much did the materials for the cabin wind up costing you. i spent 5 years in 2 rcr and also want to go off grid ish lol.

    • @MBFModernHomesteading
      @MBFModernHomesteading  5 років тому

      Right on, I think it cost us around 40,000 up to what we have done so far, but thats a really rough estimate. Id probably just drag the mini home onto some land if I had one like you though. But then again, I say one thing and do another, haha.

      @@danialholt4174 these plans are dirt cheap. I built my cabin pretty out of my head knowledge with the help of a couple buddies on some things I was unsure about. Building a cabin like this is super easy and does not require anymore than what they provide unless you have no idea what you are doing whatsoever. They are perfectly adequate to build such a small building. You do not need to put every little thing they say into the build either.
