We bought a water heater from Lehmans years ago when Amazon didn't carry them. We had to move from FL after hurricane Charlie into our 12 x 24 shed in NC. It had no electricity, or well or septic. My husband put in a small septic system and we brought up a boat toilet that only takes a pint of water to flush it. We gutted out a very old travel trailer and acquired a rusty propane fridge. It worked fine but was mustard yellow where there wasn't any rust. We had a camp stove that took the screw on bottles and on the back porch I had a dish washing station with one of those old orange coolers with the spigot that always dripped, a Rubbermaid pan and a dish drainer I got at the dollar store. When it got cold we brought it inside and installed it with the stainless steel sink that came out of the old travel trailer. We eventually managed to install gravity feed water from the creek and we were fine as we spent the next two years slowly making improvements. We have been here 17 years now and are snug as two old farts can be with all the comforts of home. We still have that old low flow, on demand hot water heater from Lehmans, though and I wouldn't trade it. Sue and Earl

Don't ever be ashamed of what you have or don't have. You accomplished more in the short time frame than most in their life time.
My wife and I are working on building our retirement home in the next two to three years. I bought a wood lot four years ago which was naked with no possibility of hydro service. So like you we will be serviced with solar panels and we added wind mill for our electrical power supply. My son and I clear some wood and rented and excavator to burry the stumps and to spread foundation soil for our driveway. We also made room for a 40ft container for storage and a place for our 19.5ft camper trailer.
I got and old tv tower for free onto which i will instal the solar panels and the wind mill.
Last year we had the septic field and septic tank installed, this year will be the well.
Then if all goes according to plan, start the house build next year. As you it will be a 24x24 house on a 8ft foundation.

Our economy has went from bad to worse (Alberta). I have been trying to convince my husband to buy land and live off grid for years now. Being mortgage free along with no utility bills is a huge game changer. I know it isn't always a bed of roses living off grid but a person can at least sleep at night knowing they are not going to lose their assets!
    Keep up the great work!!

You folks really have done a great job so far on your new home. People don't realize how hard it is to build anything at all if they haven't built anything themselves before. Having two miscarriages and a small child to take care of while you are build your future.
I am excited to watch you grow at least for awhile. I'm going to get caught up and watch you until I can't watch someone else's dream come true. I am terminally ill and I don't have any bucket list dreams at 58 so I will watch your dream grow.

It's slow right now being winter in Northern Ontario . but we're still going at it . we paid to get our roof done too , we went with the tin as well ( grey ) before that we had to do footings and had some framing for the floor and walls done but we also helped a lot with that . All paid workers are gone now and we're in the middle of wiring and insulation . paul is doing shit he shouldn't but he just can't leave it alone and so far he's fallen off a ladder and hurt his ribs ( he screamed for help so loud that not only did our neighbours come running but our son Borden ( 21 ) who had been sleeping , ran outside bare ass naked so worried about his dad . lol ) and then Paul punched himself in the face with the end of the compressor . it flew off and hit him square in the eye so we headed back to the hospital . It's been crazy here , like living in a friggin sitcom , lol . but we're getting it done . I haven't seen if you guys have had any problems but i'll try catching up on the videos and I sure hope you guys are all doing well . xo@@MBFModernHomesteading

Thank you for your video. It is getting to be more and more important to be able to live off grid. I am also doing a house but I moved an older house in and although I am set up more conventional, the only grid I am hooked to is the power grid. I am planning on building a cabin that is 100% off grid. The thing that grabbed my attention the most in the whole video is your fridge. I found Unique's website. Would definitely get one of those refrigerators When I build it. I am hoping to get a quarter section at some point to put it on.

Hello from New Hampshire! Your place is wonderful! I had bought a farmstead back in 1974 on Anagance Ridge, NB. which is 18 miles from Sussex. The original house had burned down, leaving a well & septic and large three story hay barn. The Climos ( Chip & Lyndi) had fashioned a small cabin off the back barn shed. There was 5 beautiful acres of useful ridge top land.
Hubert & Bernice Champagne lived directly across the road. They were our only neigbors, growing hydroponic tomatoes. It was just beautful! We wanted to farm, but being Americans, the government had just closed the border and would not allow us to live without giving up our American Citizenship, unless we used it as a vacation home or kept applying for one year working visas.Sadly we sold the place. You both are going to love it! Now we farm on 350 acres in New Hampshire and life is good, but still have fond memories of New Brunswick!

Consider putting an elevated 55 gallon barrel in the bathroom to fill and use to flush the toilet. It's a lot easier than all those buckets you use to pump out of, and being elevated you let gravity flush for you. I ended up with a electric pump to fill my barrel, and let gravity do the flushing with a shut off valve.

@@davesilvia9711 Not really, a sun room is just a room with more windows for more heat to get into. A green house is multi purpose and can capture more light at the same time. A sun room is a bit of a luxury for them, they would benefit more from a greenhouse. You can also use greenhouses as a bathroom.

Thank you very much for explaining everything. I'm planning for something like this in 2020 up here in Oregon. Blessings to you and your family. Keep it real, some people will not ever be happy with the way you talk, upload videos, content, etc.. please dont listen to those unpleasing people. I will subscribe and order a coffee mug.
