I know that you made this video quite a few years ago, but I have to tell you that your video was such a breath of fresh air. I wanted to make a granny square poncho and each video that I came across scrambled my brain. So, I am so glad that I bumped into your video. Thank you for sharing it 😃!
I’ve been looking for how to crochet poncho for 3 days. And settled down with your work ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ clear and easy. Making one for my granddaughter Frida Mariam coming next month from USA. Thank you 20.05.2023❤❤❤❤
I have made 2 so far, and onto my 3rd! such a clear and easy tutorial. The way you describe the measurement changes is perfect and I can't wait to make more!
Thank you so much for the detailed instructions! I have watched100+ videos and none until yours answered the problems I was having. I think I've got it now regarding the repeating corners . Thank you! Just subscribed!
So grateful and excited abt this tutorial. I have tried many times unsuccessfully to make a poncho. I even tried 2 rectangles like some videos. This is THE BEST. Thank you so much 🧶😷
Thanks, Mel, for your tutorial. I have lots of 3 weight yarn and was looking for a granny square tutorial, as I was unsure of the number count - I now know thanks to you! Merry Christmas!
Thank you for this video! I just finished my poncho using Lionbrand 24/7 cotton yarn and it came out beautifully. I’m super-short so it’s very long on me to get the right sleeve length, but I wore it to a restaurant and random folks commented on how good it looked. 😁
Thank you so much - I’m new to crotchet and I managed to make this poncho - it looks lovely and my daughter in law has claimed it - about to make another one for myself 😂
Wow this was the style I was looking for! Took me forever to find it, but thanks to you making this video, someone will be getting a nice poncho for Christmas
Excellent, feel free to share on my Facebook page, Coach Mel's Crochet Corner, in you are on FB. If not you can email me a picture so I can share with others! mel@coachmels.com
It's explained very well, if I want to increase, how many more chains I one should take, it's explained here, what I was looking for. Thank you so much ❤

Hi there dear, I really love your poncho tutorial especially the pattern.....but im not really a lover of pointed ponchos i would like to lnow can this be done in a round poncho with a hood please??? Love your work❤❤
Good questions...You would have to increase your clusters to 4 or 5 dc to make it bigger without increasing the beginning chain. Yes, I would say you can make it 4 points, put a corner stitch 1/2 way between the existing corner stitches.
Hi @mom woodward, I have a child's poncho that I made and I started with 36 as my chain. This in intended for maybe a 3 or 4 year old, it's so darn cute. I used a really chunky yarn and a big hook, I believe an N, use a hook that goes well with your yarn. You can adjust the chain using multiples of 8 plus 4.
WOW, thank you for bringing that to my attention. It was buried on my blog page...I need to work on that. Here is the link coachmelscrochetcorner.com/2019/05/
Hello Linah, To increase the size you have to chain in multiples of 8, so for 4 weight yarn go to 88 or 96, for 3 weight yarn go to 96 or 104. Hope this helps.
Zul H I would say it’s a woman’s medium but you can continue to repeat the pattern if you want to make it bigger. If you need to go bigger or smaller it’s an increase of 8 or decrease of 8.
Hi coach Mel, may I ask, if we would make it in a biggers size, started with, say 88 chains, then the dc clusters between the corners would be 10 clusters on each sides?
Chynna Doll317 you would decease by multiples of 8, chain of 72 would be 8 clusters on each side, 64 chain =7 on each side, 56 chain = 6 on each side and 48 = 5 on each side. I would probably try 56 for a 12 year old.
I just finished this poncho for my granddaughter I casted on 88 stitches absolutely rubbish will never make it again..the neck line was curling up the rest of the body of poncho was nice.. but the neck line rubbish rubbish will not be making this again

@@CoachMel With 2 rectangles I’ve added stitches around the neck to make it work🧶

Beautiful pattern, very clear instructions. Please give us something new. Greedings from Greece. 😍
Great! Im knitting right now, thank you, very well explained .
You’re welcome 😊
I love this.
Alternatively, you could start with foundation HDC, which would make the neckline stretchier.
Great point, I'll have to try that!
And this video was so wonderful 👏 💖 ❤
Thank you glad you liked it!
Great tutorial!
Thank you!
Bonjour et merci beaucoup, car je viens de commencer mon projet et vous expliquez très bien. Continuez ainsi .
Sorry I don't understand you comment, but I hope you enjoyed the video.
Beautiful!
I love the pattern however I wish I knew how to make it smaller - in a size XS adult size. Will give it a tey. Thank you.
Hi there dear, I really love your poncho tutorial especially the pattern.....but im not really a lover of pointed ponchos i would like to lnow can this be done in a round poncho with a hood please??? Love your work❤❤
Look up a granny circle and do accordingly. Add hood as desired.
Interesting idea, I'll have to think about it and give it a try.
❤ma’am thanks for your help for making this poncho’s
Nice pattern. What are the multiples please? Thank you.
Great instructions
Thank you glad you liked it!
No entiendo tú idioma, pero muchas gracias por poner los números y tus explicaciones muy buenas.....😊😊😊
I love your Poncho, but I need to know if I can used Caron Simple Softer 4ply.? Thanks
YES, I love that yarn, should work up nicely!
Thank you ❤
Can I I what to put hood on it
I love ❤️ this! So colorful! Can you increase the size without increasing the beginning chain? Can you make this a four point poncho??
Good questions...You would have to increase your clusters to 4 or 5 dc to make it bigger without increasing the beginning chain. Yes, I would say you can make it 4 points, put a corner stitch 1/2 way between the existing corner stitches.
Large or xxl may same chain dalny haa
can you do
60 count for the poncho
What is the color of the purple, off white, grey yarn, I love that color.
Is 80 chains a one size fits all or how many more chains if you want it bigger or smaller. Example LG, Ex LG or 2x?
I'm a us 16 and have done 96 chains
@@missuscamthank you.
So to make it a 4-poiht poncho we just do 4 clusters and the 5th one would be the corner, right!
Nice how many chains and what size hook for children do you think please thank you so much
Let me check...I have one at home a made a while back but don't remember how many I did...I'll get back to you!
@@CoachMel thank you so much

@@CoachMel thank you for responding back to me im just now finally starting on one this is going to be mine lol and the next one . Great tutorial
Hi. So with every row, the number of clusters, excluding the corners increase right?
Do you have a video instruction for the scalloped edges?
Yes, it is on my channel as part 2
I an I-hook mean an inline hook for 3 weight yarn?
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️🌵🇺🇸
You are very welcome!
Cuantos puntos son para empezar el poncho ?por favor gracias anticipadas
What size hook did you use please
anyone tried adding a cowlneck collar to this? look good? feel good? easy enough? i can't find a pattern with one :(
I have not tried that. I'm going to be working on another poncho soon...I'll keep that in mind.
I tried a cowl with front post back post. One row of double crochet first then fpbp.
I am looking for the instructions and do not see them when going to your website can you update this to include the written instructions ?
WOW, thank you for bringing that to my attention. It was buried on my blog page...I need to work on that. Here is the link coachmelscrochetcorner.com/2019/05/
To make a large, what size and how many chains?
Hello Linah, To increase the size you have to chain in multiples of 8, so for 4 weight yarn go to 88 or 96, for 3 weight yarn go to 96 or 104. Hope this helps.
Keeping the same size hook 6.00m?
I used the 6.0 (J) with the 4 weight yarn and a 5.5 (I) with the 3 weight yarn.
I’m making one
Excellent, enjoy!
I found out I am using an I hook, will it make a difference?
No worries, the sizing will just be a bit different. It's "forgiving"
Love this tutorial but you left out how many rows you did on yours
Very nice
#KrishnaCreationsknittingcrochet
Size hook?
Chain 80 is for what size? Thanks
I need a smaller size chain. Can u tell me the diff in clusters n chain shes 12 yes old
Chynna Doll317 you would decease by multiples of 8, chain of 72 would be 8 clusters on each side, 64 chain =7 on each side, 56 chain = 6 on each side and 48 = 5 on each side. I would probably try 56 for a 12 year old.
Thank you
What does J hook mean in mm ???
6.00 mm
Is there a picture of it somewhere???
jodi marie if you go to coachmelscrochet corner.com you will see a picture.
Why all youtube on poncho tutorial is 80 for 80 chain is too small for adult
Please can you weave a scarf for men
Thanks for the idea, I'll add it to my list!
@@CoachMel ok
How many yards do I need for this poncho?
Shenandoah I used approximately 760 yards of a 3 weight yarn.
U up
