I'm crying my eyes out. I needed this. I'm trying to have a healthier lifestyle because diabetes and high blood pressure runs in the family. Plus I have an anxiety disorder. I went to a doctor on Friday and she basically judged me because I'm not fast enough in losing weight (I started a new diet with a Profesional nutritionist, I'm in my 3rd month) and the way she said made me feel so bad, I've been in a terrible mood for the last few days. Feeling guilt about what I eat, if I get hungry, watching everything I eat in an unhealthy way. I talked with my nutritionist about this and she calmed me down, but I was still anxious. And watching this just made me burst into tears. Thank you for teaching in such a kind and empathetic way.

I like calorie counting but i get how it may not be the best for everyone. I don't eat alot, I have mental illnesses that sometimes when I'm in a crisis I don't feel hungry for days (So I can't do intuitively eating or follow my hunger), which leads me to passing out. amd I also feel very nauseous all the time because of my tumor treatment (which also doesn't make me want to eat) , so I started calorie counting so I can meet my daily calorie count. (so it's not about restrictions for me). I don't force myself to eat or not eat. In the beginning I just observed, and my daily calorie intake to maintain weight is 1500 (I weight 121 now), and I noticed that some days I had as little as 600 calories. And now when I meet my calorie count for a meal I feel happy! I have an app called Lifesum, it's much more focused on health then calories.

But I not only knew it was something I knew I needed to do for health reasons, but I wanted to feel better. It has taken me a long time to reach this place of wanting to.....but now that I am here....I am so thankful I am. It's a mind set just like she said. Don't think about having to do it, but wanting to do it to make yourself better and stronger. You can do this. 😊 keep at it.

I am 60 and I ate like crap most of my life, I recently had a stroke because of it. I gave up bread, eggs, all prepared frozen food, no salt, I only drink water. I have minimal cheese, zero sweets except 75% dark chocolate. I spent 53.00 yesterday at Aldi on nuts, grains, vegetables, fruits, dark chocolate. I went from 235ish to 195lbs in a few months without exercise. Everyone knows how important healthy eating is. But, it really hits home when you have a health issue.

      Hi there,
How are you? I am sorry to hear about your blood test results. If you do not mind me sharing; a well-planned, organic and unrefined plant-based diet (consuming edible raw plant foods where possible so as not to denature or destroy the life-forces and enzymatic activities beneficial to the human system. If disagreeing on this matter, please try planting some steamed carrots and see if they will grow; if they fail to, it is because they are 'dead' plant food that cannot fully nourish one's 'living' cells) consisting of organic fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains is the best diet to provide mankind with ultimate health and longevity. These foods, fresh and grown in rich soil, are found all the essential vitamins, calcium, carbohydrates, fats, fibre, minerals, protein and water needed to make good blood and enjoy health.
Please avoid meat alternatives that contain harmful preservatives and additives e.g vinegar, a corrosive agent. Food toxicity and nutrient deficiency (e.g white bread, white rice and white sugar) are a deadly combination as one is hindering the body's building materials needed to action healing whilst at the same time taxing the system with more toxic things, thus bringing about disease and possibly even an early death.

Calorie and macro counting has been transformational for me. I am not limited in any way, shape of form, and know exactly what I'm eating. I've lost 20 pounds, no longer over-eat, and have learnt portion control.
A lot of things I used to eat suddenly stepped into the light as not being very good.
You just have to have balance. Have a takeaway every now and again, or treat yourself to days where you don't count at all.

You make is so easy:) I love the point about the brain and the 'all or nothing' mentality; good habits happen over time with practice, not overnight. Also, we don't need to be *on* a diet - need to strive for a healthy diet in general. Like you say, it's a lifestyle shift. It's kind of like, if I feel overwhelmed because the house is a mess. It really is easier doing a little at a time, maybe one or two rooms, rather than thinking I have to work myself to the bone to get it all sparkling top to bottom - a little at a time, until it becomes easier to keep it managed.

So true with explanation at the end. I started eating healthier when my son was a year old that was 21 years ago. Since then, I have gradually transitioned over to eating a healthier diet. I look at it as a Journey because that is what it is. Not a diet but a lifestyle change that is for life, taking it one day at a time and replacing the bad foods with something healthier. Fast forward to today, 18 years later (3 years ago), I gave up processed sugars. I liked my sweets. I still enjoy sweets but I am very careful about foods that have processed sugar in the foods. I am careful to read the labels and if I see "sugar" as an ingredient, I will not buy it. I gave up sodas a long, long time ago. Water is my primary drink.

Such practical yet said differently that struck me in a good way. I recently lost 71 pounds and am still working on my eating. Working mom of 4 with a special needs child. Added stress had me stress eating. Once I recognized that it made eating better not as hard as I made it. Also once I dumped the its convenient mentality and committed one day a week to food prep was a game changer. Thank you for all the information.

  • @epowell4211

Great advice! I started on a health/fitness/weight loss journey just over 2 years ago, and my plan aligns with yours so well, I'm surprised I hadn't seen this video and gotten the inspiration for it lol.
My first rule is to make no changes I can't live with: that means no forbidden foods, no crazy exercise plan, only setting goals that I want to be part of my life forever. I do track my calories and macros, but it's more about keeping me aware of what I eat and I focus on hitting goals for protein and produce than on limiting carbs/calories/fat.
I think the hardest part of my weight loss journey has been identifying true hunger. I eat out of habit (clock says, activity goes with eating like watching tv, etc), boredom, emotion, and to procrastinate (can't do that now, time to eat!). I have issues with hypoglycemia and am really addicted to manipulating my mood with food.
The most effective diet plan I ever tried was through a hospital, and the first week they set no restrictions, didn't even encourage exercise, we just had to track our eating. The form was intended to help us identify habits and triggers, as we recorded not just what and how much we ate, but when we ate it, how we were feeling/what we were thinking when we ate it, what we were doing when we ate it, and how we felt after. It was a lot of work, but it instilled thoughtful eating practices that help me to this day.
The "habit" part of eating is always a struggle: we get used to eating at certain times, in certain situations, certain amounts, certain food pairings, and clean plate club. I watched a show where they showed people their normal serving of food, blindfolded them, fed them, made them wait between each bite and think about if they were full, and every participant quit long before the plate was empty. I use small plates and small portions, with the promise I can get more if I want it.

Great advice! I personally think you should stress high volume foods that are low calorie to control hunger. You can still be full and for way longer, eat delicious foods, and stay at a healthy weight easily.
Example for the lasagna; replace the noodles with thin slices of sweet potatoes, use fat free cottage cheese, super lean Turkey, etc etc..

OMG why did I come across this video just now. I love it! I may not be the healthiest person but I do my best to eat healthy in ways I know how. After years of yoyo dieting, it caused me so much mental anguish that I finally had enough. Step by step I tried to figure out my own eating habits and which food I like. Created my weekly meal plan by creating meals with healthy ingredients I love (I'm glad I can cook) but I do give myself a takeaway dinner every saturday night lol I love sugar and chocolates, I substituted them with honey and dark chocolate instead (I make REAL iced green tea with honey and lemon and it's so addictingly delicious than store-bought drinks - you can use soda water or sparkling water if you're craving for that soda feeling!). I love instant ramen and I still do eat them (max once a week) but with actual healthy ingredients such as carrots, mushrooms, scallions, etc. I love eggs and I keep them healthy by mostly eating them boiled ( it helps to know how long to boil them according to the consistency you like. I like mine boiled for 6 mins so the yolk is still runny but sans the oil from frying it instead). I also substituted salt with quality low-salt soy sauce, it's tastier and more nutritious but around 50 percent less salt and now loyal to olive oil for cooking. These are just a few tricks I have learned through time. Now I only eat meat 3x a week (one meal for that day, cooked with veggies I love), alternating pork/beef with chicken every week and I'm still feeling happy and healthier. I seldom buy ready-cooked food and only in emergencies, but I do hate the taste of them..yuck. Be patient and kind to yourself. You're not in a race, take your time. These little choices you take slowly will eventually pay off =)
