Thank you for your inspiration and guidance, I was able to mod one of my knives. I had a one handed Trekker that I wanted to modify, and after about 3 days of trial and error, I was able to take the saw off of it. Now, I have a one handed Picnicker, which a) Victorinox doesn't make and b) is one of my dream knives. If I can do it, ANYBODY can do it. I am one happy guy!!! Thank you Papa Hiker, for helping with this.
I love that ya used a SAK as much as possible while doing this. I have done 2 mods so far. 1 I put a house key into a Deluxe Tinker for a buddy. The 2nd I put my house key and my key to my Jeep into a Deluxe Tinker. Bout to start my 3rd build now. Going all out on this one. Acid stone wash, custom tool set up and even custom tools
The outer liner needs to be put back in its proper place as it actually pushes the scales to their proper position. The flat one will work but the tools will rub after awhile.
My Victorinox did not come with the micro screwdriver so I specifically ordered a micro screwdriver from their replacement parts service because I wear glasses and that screwdriver is, as you say, indispensible. That looks like a great bit of work you did there.
Thanks for sharing! I took three of them apart by tapping the pins out, it was a nightmare. And that was the easy part... I did manage however and am proud to have a self made victorinox special mechanic!
I've been thinking of giving this a shot for a little while to take the magnifying glass and torch off of my cybertool. The magnifying glass is garbage, the actual glass just pops out of it's holder. So is the torch it always turns itself on in your pockets and drains itself flat so the batteries are always flat when you actually want it.
That was awesome and you inspired me to do the same. Today, after 3 hours working on it, I finally have my dream sak, which is basically an Hunstman plus the mag glass and philips. I used an old Swisschamp. Thank you a lot!!!
Hi AM K, sorry, no I don't. Since I reused everything on the knife (only made it thinner) I did not have to buy new ones. The sizes are here: forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=54239.0 Good luck!
I've always wanted to mod my SAK Farmer by removing the bottle and can openers to make it slimmer and a little bit lighter. I don't have much use for either of them so they just add bulk and weight to the knife.
+Dirk Stabins: hi! That sounds very logical. Outdoors, the saw, knife and reamer are functional tools, but the screwdrivers not so much. The manner is just the same with the alox models
Papa hiker Thanks so much for your advice, I finally went for it a couple months ago and modded my Farmer by removing the can opener and cap lifter. The heads of pins that hold the knife together don't look as pretty as they did from the factory, but it doesn't bother me. I like the knife a lot better now and use it more than I did before. Thanks again!
Greetings Papa hiker! I hope you can answer my question. I have never modded a knife before. But, as I prepare for a 3 month backpacking trip, I want to mod a Swiss Army Knife so that it will have the tools I need in a single knife, rather than carrying the weight of two separate knives. I like the tools on my 58mm Victorinox Classic, 84mm Waiter, and the 65mm 580 Clip. Is it possible to move the tools from the Classic and 580 Clip, and put them into the 84mm Waiter? If so, are there any challenges I can anticipate and any techniques to navigate through those challenges? My full plan is to carry a SAK that only carries the following: 84mm Plus scales (customized) Blade Can/Bottle opener combo tool Nail file/flat head combo tool Pen Pin Scissors Toothpick Tweezers (I also wanted to put a package hook and whistle into it, but, I don't have those SAK tools and no budget left to acquire them. But, if I get a chance to, I'll add them someday as well.) Thank you! :)
Hey Usagi boy, bummer dude, this is not going to work 🙁. First, the scissors and the nail file from the 58 mm range are not the same thickness, so you can’t put them opposite from another, but they would have to go on one end of the knife, not so practical. Second: the rods on the 84mm and the 58mm series are as far as I know not the same thickness, so this would not fit. I I were you I would buy a victorinox signature. It is a superb knife in the 58mm range that has almost everything you want. In addition you could, if you feel you need a bigger blade, take a separate knife that has only a knife, or the waiter model. This is good because if you lose or break one, you would still have the other. Also you could keep the small knife extremely sharp and just never use it so it stays that way. Check it out: this is probably also a lighter option than a 84mm knife that has everything. Let me know what you will do. Happy camping, Papa hiker
@@papahiker9014 oh! The 580 Clip is a 65mm, not 58mm. So, my question is about combining a 65mm with 84mm. I will also go look at the Signal. Though, sadly I won't be able to get another SAK until after my trip is over. Ive already spent that portion of the budget on the other two SAKs. :( Thank for both your video and your time! :) Edit: I googled Victorinox Signal, and all that I can find is the signal mirror, not a SAK knife by that name. Is it super rare?
Yes I mod most of my SAK file off the can opener to give a much better small flat & Phillips, and improved can opener. See my video " victorinox, explorer, huntsman, farmer , climber screwdriver can opener mod " . I literally mod all my SAK now this way ( apart from the swiss champ, I keep it original) it is much more useful with the can opener improved and the screwdriver works great as a small screwdriver and a very very good Phillips (you just have to copy a flat Phillips like a leatherman with a dremel. Have a look and give it a go it's a easy quick mod . Cheers and greetings from Scotland.
@@papahiker9014 yes I think so . I did the mod along the lines of the Wenger can opener, I find it works even without putting an edge on the blade bit but if you can put an edge all the better , then if you copy the flat Phillips screwdriver on a leatherman and shape it similar I find it is every bit as good as the Phillips on the swiss champ / explorer. All in all with a little care and shaping you can get a very good useable flat and Phillips screwdriver and a good working can opener . Since I made that video I use the can opener regularly I have only cleaned out and it is still my only can opener I use I couldn't even find a normal kitchen one , and as you can see on my video I have several back ups . Hope you have success with the mod . And report back or make a new video how you get on that would be FAB.
Interesting I might have a go too if my knife also fails. I just purchased a couple new Victorinox knives recently and was a bit disappointed by the quality of them these days. They used to be much better made than these ones seem to be nowadays. One mod that might be wotth a go if you take it apart again is to file down your front door key or a car key and have that foldable and always too hand too! :D Another mod might be to make some new scales from wood.
Apparently, drop the sak into hot water first and that helps remove the scale and preserve the holes. This allows them to be put back on easier and tighter.
