Based on a true story. RIP Jeremy Wade Delle
Two stories. Eddie being punched was by another kid and the entire song isn't a literal retelling. For those that might think.
Found it unfortunate that his family didn’t approve of it, as it was a such a strong depiction of someone so terrorized with their life that suicide is the best decision you think you can make.
@@JoeRyMi Also think the band could have been more sensitive and reached out to the family beforehand. They shouldn't have assumed they knew the entire story from secondhand news accounts. The truth likely lies between several different perspectives.
@@spencergwin9454 they did
@@spencergwin9454 According to Eddie, the other kid was named Brian whom Eddie went to school with. They had some altercations in the past. Brian ended up shooting up a classroom. Eddie said he remembers when he was in the school's halls and hearing it happen.. (sourced from wiki)
“Try to erase this from the blackboard”….Chilling.
Yes…!!!
Especially the way he emphasizes "Try". Gave me the chills
One of the first rock songs I watched on MTV back in the day. Seeing deeper meanings through intense lyrics made me fall in love with rock music.
Awesome memory!!
Yeet
Very nice reaction. You are one of the few people that seem to "get it." This video can be seen as a test of one's empathy for those that suffer silently. Tks.
Thank you!! 🙏🏻❤️
"Try to erase this from the blackboard..." That line hit me so hard when paired with the last scene. Great video and great commentary.
it is one of the strongest videos in history. It is such a strong message that it was forbidden to prevent it from being misinterpreted, after jeremy, pearl jam stopped making video clips for several years.
I loved she didn’t pause the song for comment but having comments printed on screen as song was going on ! Very good reaction!
Song was based on a real story that happened in Texas his name was Jeremy Wade Delle shot himself in front of 30 of his classmates in english class on Jan 8th 1991 at Richardson HS he was 15 yrs old
The part I have ways hated is my name is Jeremy and my birthday is January 8th. I don't hate it because he ruined it rather I hate it because of the pain he went through. It tears me up.
I had already heard Black, Last Kiss, Even Flow... But when I watched Jeremy there was no way to go back.
Since I heard this song Pearl Jam is my favorite band, this song impact anyone
Ámen, irmão...
Minha banda favorita também desde que eu comecei com o rock, com todas essas músicas foi amor a primeira vista pra mim, em todas elas da pra ver o quão profundo é cada letra, e a paixão que o eddie traz na voz
Such a great opening with Jeff playing a 12 string bass... Such a unique sound
This clip was one of my dad's favorites. He showed it to me on VHS and in the mid-nineties. I was at school then. Now my father is no longer alive, and these days I perceive this video in a new way and with some strange emotions. Greetings from Russia and thank you for your reaction!
Being a teen in the 90’s I grew up on this era of music. Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Tool and Peal Jam overflowed my cd sleeves. Very much a rock n roll kid. They all have their various feelings or memories that they evoke. But something about PJ, just catches me. A PJ song can just bring me to tears outta nowhere. It’s a very cool but odd thing to occur. If you have the chance to see them live I highly suggest it. I appreciate your reviews, thank you.
Me yoo
Too
Corey, I could have written your comment myself...it's eerily similar to what I've posted before lol. Wow.
I also liked early Candlebox, Green Day, Blind Melon, Rage Against the Machine, etc. My girlfriend at the time got me into Tori Amos, L7, and others. But you're right, they say the 90's was only second to the 60's as far as musical genius. We were lucky my friend. I saw PJ 3 times, the last was in Charlotte, NC around 1996 I think, where Eddie had Gloria Steinem speak, the 60's activist.
I had tickets to the Toronto show that was canceled due the virus, can hardly wait will be my 18 jamfest this time with my two beautiful kids, you are right this band brings out emotions I thought I was incapable of feeling, anyway hope everyone is doing great cheers
@@bibiayube677 @Bibi Ayube Wow, I went from friends running through woods escaping Unkraine to this....let me take a breath..I'm sorry
But yes, I've seen PJ 5 times, and the most memorable was in Charlotte, NC in '96. Eddie had Gloria Steinem appear and she spoke about Women's Rights and empowerment.
THANK YOU for watching the entire video and saving your comments for the end. MUCH better than most others!
This song was released in August 1992, at the beginning of my 11th grade in high school. I was struggling with mental health due to undiagnosed autism, mild ADHD, a horrific stutter that made social communication difficult and public speaking impossible. I didn't speak in class for years aside from when being forced to participate.
I didn't like it.
This song 100% saved my life.
My name is Jeremy btw.
I've heard this song an uncountable amount of times, and I'm still sitting here with tears running down my face watching this. Such a powerful song. Sad that kids sometimes do this to eachother.
I have always related strangely to the song Jeremy, I think it is fantastic but I see myself all over it, I was an outsider a school and always in trouble, My Father was not all he could have been (I think that is the best way to put it) I have lived with depression and Aspergers syndrome all of my life but was 40 before I was properly diagnosed and got the help I needed, the bouts of depression di make me suicidal frequently, I was a singer for a long time though not able to any more, it all just made Jeremy a perfect srorm of a song to me.
I hope you have a fantstic 2022 to look forwards to, big love
Stay strong brother
I think everybody at some point has felt like Jeremy it’s never forever
@Bill Richards I hope you have a fantastic 2022 and beyond! Cheers!
@@loriwishman1866 Thankyou, I wish you the same and many many more years
Revisited a Jeremy reaction and found Sabina. Fantastic. Her facial expressions was the same main reaction I felt inside when first watched it. Took me on a small journey on Jeremy, the child actor and other videos.
The unclean spirit may easily enter a person's anguish, frustrations, deep anxieties and hatred. Why God is always the first line of defense and for protection between good and evil. Thank you Ms Sabina. Lol.
Absolutely one of the best bands EVER!! Jeremy is just one of many many examples about their masterful musicianship, deep and meaningful lyrics, great performances and video production (mostly back when MTV used to be about music videos anyway), they have everything!! And Eddie Vedder has a unique voice and style that you can immediately recognize regardless of the song, everything about him and the band is completely authentic.
There's just too many great PJ songs to narrow down a list, but I can definitely recommend Betterman (my absolute favorite), Evenflow, Daughter, Rearview Mirror, Alive, Given To Fly, Force Of Nature, Unthought Known, and of course Just Breathe. Also check out the solo album Eddie released for the movie Into The Wild.
Jeremy Delle. Quiet, kept in his own world. Bullied, picked on and ignored. Parents and teachers ignored his silent cries for help. He had a lot to say the day he killed himself in front of his class. "Jeremy spoke in class today......" Such a chilling lyric to describe the agony Jeremy endured.
That's why they're one of the best live bands around. What you see in the video of how he performs and puts his all into each lyric. That's how he is live
Almost all the grunge og the 90s are good at live
@@masteroftrumpetsedited272 it's not exactly Grunge, but I saw The Smashing Pumpkins live around 2004 in a small theater, and Billy's voice was so weak that people actually left halfway through the performance. Not sure if that how he always was, but it was very disappointing..
@@guytansbariva2295 maybe he's just tired
@@masteroftrumpetsedited272 Nope, it's well known...Google it. He's got a very weak live voice, been articles about it since the 1990's. Makes one wonder how much it was boosted on the Pumpkin's album. I still like their music though, a subnote to the really great bands of the 90's.
the jeremy video is a masterpiece, as you said.
the symbolism, the production, the shots, the kid's performance, eddie just letting it all out... amazing.
You're so expressive. I really enjoyed your interpretation and thoughtful insights about this song.
Pearl Jam's songs have deep meanings.
Daughter
Evenflow
Alive
Yellow Ledbetter
So many great songs!
Yes the ten álbum have so many good song
Really cool how you use captions rather than interrupt the video, really like that never seen any reactors do that before, Amazing reaction too..Pearl jam and Eddie vedder are one of a kind. His voice is so primal, and you can tell how intensely he feels every word.
I Love how you formatted your reaction video! Watching it with written responses and then talking about it.... Brilliant!!!!
Thanks 🥰
Powerful and needed. I wasn't Jeremy, but I could understand him.
I really love how you have ur thoughts typed out!, much better then pausing !!! Thank you so much
i love how you print your comments without stopping the video!
young eddie was one of the most captivating and expressive singers ever. his facial expressions and emotion are soul grabbing.
Jeremy was the first songs I listened to from PJ n loved so far, the best
As another comment did, thank you for watching the entire song and chat reacting during the song before giving your verbal thoughts afterward. So refreshing. Well done
He’s been with me since 1991 I found them best ever I must say
Bless you Sabina
Especially for the time this video had more impact then you imagine
Eddie and Chris Cornell: My favorite vocalists of all-time!
It’s, actually, in my opinion, one of the most important videoclips of all time at MTV, next to Video Killed the Radio as the first videoclip of the channel, Take on Me as one of the most revolutionary ones because of how it was made, just like Sledgehammer, and Jeremy, since it brought all of that social concern to the public eye for a public like the one from MTV and because it practically was the spotlight for that change at music in the 90’s with grunge, and Pearl Jam becoming those who would represent that generation, and yes, becoming one of the most important bands of rock still active.
I’ve never saw someone watch this the first time without bawling their eyes out.
throwing the apple to the teacher is my fav? part
tough one! ..well done eddie and all involved!
I can only recommend that you try to get tickets for their concert this summer in Copenhagen. They are an awesome live band 🤘😎🤘
When you referred to him as Little Jeremy towards the end of your video, I broke and cried
More pearl jam please!!!
I'll never forget seeing this video for the 1st time, I was in my early 20's, huge music fan, huge Pearl Jam fan but this was beyond powerful and intense and somewhat troubling, yet magnificently done and expressed it's point. Poor kid so sad. I love your reactions, that you don't pause and interrupt constantly like others do, the subtitles are perfect.
Glad to see you finally got it done Sabi! As usual, an awesome reaction and insightful thoughts. PJ never disappoint. Well done 🥰
You are very in depth and sincere in your reactions
Really enjoy your videos. I love this song and actually covered it last night. Thanks for the video
Just stumbled across your vids. Love your style, no annoying pauses and needless yammering. You gave your views in easy text, and your expressions made the rest clear. A+
Very much enjoyed. Reacting doesn't mean yammering. And you summised your views at the end. LOve your way of doing this, does it so well
I really liked your video cause you let people also to listen and then sharing your thoughts after the song is finish. Top! ❤
Greatest band of all time.
SO very powerful and heartbreaking for a young person to feel that. Very well written song and a topic that needs to be addressed. This story, song, and video affected me, so. Happened, here in the area where I live...and, I'll never, ever forget it. I could not imagine having been in that classroom, as deeply as this story affected me.❤🙏
Thanks!
Have seen Pearl Jam twice and lived in Seattle during the huge music scene happening in late 1980s early 90s. We saw members in the streets and it was such a great time. No one can make me feel like Eddie Vedder. My man... ❤
Great reaction and love your channel. I appreciate when music is not only beautiful but brings a deep message that we need to hear. I was lucky to just finish high school when Grunge took off. The music of my generation and so great to experience live. You should check out Alice In Chains with Layne Staley my favorite singer but so many great singers in this genre
Pearl jam was addressing bullying before social media was available.
Wow, I've heard this a million times and had no idea. 😔
One of the most powerful music videoes I've ever seen.
I used to show this to my high school classes.
Love the subtitles on your videos. Just wanted to make sure someone said that haha
I Love Pearl Jam Performance On MTV Awards 92 When They Bringing Jeremy Song
The kid in this video died years later while surfing. Pearl Jam paid for his funeral and I believe attended it as well. There is a video on UA-cam which explains the entire Jeremy story.
I play my ‘unplugged record’ often. I was one of the few that got it back in 2008. It’s amazing.
In my earlier life back in the 90's pearl jam was very prevalent during that time period. It was a commonplace for people of all ages who really enjoyed this sound/style of music unconditionally. Whether that'd be a bonfire, family reunions, and really anything that involved having fun. Needless to say it continues to carry over into younger generations now, and even after i'm gone I hope people/youth will continue to listen and really appreciate the value/weight of songs like this.
So good! Pearl Jam’s finest!
I love it this reaction with the commentaries in the subtitles. Saludos from Argentina, here we love to Eddie Vedder.
Happy to see you don't pause the video to let us know what you think
This song will never get old because the subject matter is a constant.
I remember this when it was an mtv staple. Great song-sad backstory-great video from a great band. I actually was showing this to my teenage son(showed him AIC and Soundgarden and PJ after him asking me about Nirvana) and I didn't even know if the original video would be on here anymore-so powerful- but not sure if that final scene would fly these days in the wake of so many tragedies and the current climate. Glad to see this amazing "little piece of art" (a direct eddie vedder quote from the VMA 's btw!) Is still being appreciated for what it is and not misinterpreted and twisted🤘
Really really appreciate that you don't hide your emotions
I think this song carries a powerful message. Look out for and take care of one another. Based on a true story, Eddie Vedder brought that message to us in an artistic manner.
The MTV Unplugged was 92 just after their Debut in 91. If you want to see 2 great singers in one viedeo, you should check out Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike. It's basically Pearl Jam with the addition of Chris Cornell. To be more precise this was the staring point of PJ. They had a different band name and singer before (Mother Love Bone). When he died, they made a tribute album with Chris, the singer from Soundgarden. And on some tracks they added Eddie Vedder as a new guy, which worked out so well, that they startet Pearl Jam. So much of the anger and grief on the debut is just very real.
Regarding Jeremy: I was 13, when this came out, so I could very much identify myself with the song and the video. The love for the album and the band acompaonied me since then.
i love you reactios😟thanks🥺very crude but real
I can never give Pearl Jam enough kudos for this video. So many bands will take a subject matter as this and saturate it in metaphors, which ultimately takes away from the meaning.
This isn't something you can sugarcoat.
There's a problem, and Pearl Jam are the only ones who had stones enough to tackle it head on. Pearl Jam were the ones to show people exactly what is happening, and what is going to continue to happen unless something fundamentally changes.
Rest in Peace, Jeremy Wade Delle
Hopefully it gets better for you, wherever you ended up.
I feel so bad for what Jeremy had to go through and anyone who has to deal with depression and suicidal thoughts and mental illness in general. My junior year of high school I would always listen to this song and was going through those same thoughts and it was worse because I’m autistic so making friends and socializing and fitting into the social norm was always hard. I’m just glad I had family that was there and teachers who cared about me and saw warning signs.
Great reaction by the way!
Pearl Jam don't make many music videos but when they do they are always fantastic.
It was the last song written for the album, and arguably their biggest hit. Eddie read the story of Jeremy Wade Delle as the album was finishing up, and the song just came to him. The family of the real life Jeremy still feel they were misrepresented in this song. Also, a side note; the young actor in this video, Trevor Wilson, also died trgeically young at the age of 36. He drowned while swimming at a beach and got caught up in a riptide.
It is a harsh song and video, but showing the visuals along with such powerful lyrics and delivery drives the message home. You can see and hear Eddie's emotions.
I have recently watched your reactions to Korn: Freak on a Leash; Falling Away from Me; Daddy.
Now a die-hard fan of yours and subscribed!
This song as help me express myself. As i lived the same Trauma...
Just showing the gun in mouth is heart-wrenching. Nothing further is needed to be shown to make the statement of a person's suffering.
I have seen this music video SO many times, I remember my dad warning me about how difficult this was to watch. I never found it very difficult to watch because i never felt suicidal
That ending of the music video...jesus christ!
This song Jeremy is from a true article that Eddie Vetter the lead singer of (Pearl jam) read from the newspaper the year or so before the song was released n the US .
If you ever listen to the song, and know the story then try to come up with a video to match, I can't think anyone would outdo what they did with this video. It's wonderful art. Beautiful.
I was two years older and one town over when this happened.
Causes and effect
Just knowing you reacted to this sing. Almost surreal what happened to him and what came about less than a year til today the many mass shootings that occurred. An unclean spirit took him over his is anguish frustrations anxiety and depression led to to his suicide. So sad and disheartening. The young actor died as a young man mysteriously drowned. His was feeling ill during audition but director saw something and selected him. Incredible story of good vs evil Lol
This video, when I first saw it, had a statement and a national suicide hotline number at the end. The video definitely raised awareness of teen suicide and was actually based on two real incidents.
I saw Pearl Jam on this tour Ten and the next called: Vs. AWESOME SHOW AND NO ONE SINGS LIKE EDDIE VEDDER! Even Bono from U2 said so!
Once upon a time, music had content and talked about really uncomfortable things...
This is an anthem of a generation and I'm very happy to have belonged to it, because we learned to speak face to face about all the problems of this world, which are not few...
Very good advice you received to watch the actual video itself first.
Jeremy spoke out in class...TODAY
Hi Sabina, did you notice the use of the strobe light between Eddie Vedder and the young actor i the video?
It is obviously done to draw a parallel between the feelings of Jeremy Wade Delle and Eddie himself. This is a very personal song which gives the vocal the power that it has. The whole album (10) is filled with personal experiences from the youth of EV..
Check out the vma performance of this
Eddie Vedder simply commands your attention when he is performing.
I will always have an immeasurable respect for the music that at least tried to take life seriously, and began to address a tiny portion of things that happened to real people, vs the Neverending cycle of commercial garbage the industry pumps out for maximal profit.
Thank u. From munich, Germany. Du bist bezaubernd. LG
Eddie Vedder made sure Jeremy would never be forgotten and brought awareness to bullying and other things I don't want to say because Jeremy's mother doesn't exactly agree.
Don't be a bully is the lesson
Eddie Vedder is an awesome singer his voice is amazing
Powerful video
Anyone her age who says they haven't seen that pearl jam video before is either lying or lived under a rock.
Lived under a rock for sure 😂😂
Great reaction :) can we also take a moment to apriciate Jeff Ament's way of writing haunting music , alot of the credit goes to Stone and I understand why but Ament is a master to :) he wrote this track.
Greetings from Vancouver 🇨🇦
Found your channel recently, really enjoy reviews.
For consideration I would love to see you do a reaction video for a Pearl Jam official video for even flow
