      @Umuliuz 3 роки тому +12

      Some bands rearanged songs for Unplugged, took that oportunity to showcase different expressions etc. Pearl Jam just plugged in and did what they do :p. And it was one of the greatest ever. Nirvana is an example of a band that did something special and different, also one of the best, if not the best, there ever was. Yeah I was a massive fan of unplugged, taped everything I could get my hands on.

      I think when he holds that long note after that line, goes up an octave, and then hits the cry-out is the best part. He scratches it a bit here, but in the studio version, and in other live performances, it's belted out without falter. That said, I think the song was always better unplugged.

    Eddie's passion, emotions, feelings...GOODNESS. Watch Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" official music video, the second part (or maybe simply the whole video) and watch his reflection of Jeremy's likely real emotions with his struggle of being bullied before he ended his life. Eddie is amazing conveying feeling, emotion and passion, and he did amazing in that video conveying Jeremy's frustration, confusion, anger, insecurity, stress, depression and pain. "Jeremy" is based on an actual event, where the teen shot and killed himself in front of his class. Eddie Vedder is outstanding, for me, Pearl Jam were the best of the 1990's in all popular music, Mariah Carey a close second.

I'm not sure it will happen now due to how manufactured, and idealistically rote, all artistic industries are these days. The dystopian future we were warned about for decades is here. Quick story: some 16 years ago I was driving with my friends, among them a girl I was crazy about but she were with this guy, making out the entire night. When I dropped them all at their homes I was driving alone back mine and this song started playing. When Eddie sung the part “I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be the star in somebody else’s sky but why can’t it be mine” I started crying thinking about her.
    This past December it was our 5th anniversary.
    I love you, Alice.

    Great song, great band, and great reaction, you could see the raw emotion on your face as you listened to the lyrics and the passion in his voice. The MTV Unplugged series had some of the most raw and incredible performances come from it. Alice In Chains performance of Nutshell and Down In A Hole from their Unplugged performance are really memorable. Their official video of Would?, Rooster, and the unofficial video Alice In Chains - Love, Hate, Love - Live at the Moore, are some of their best videos, but not their best songs. The lead singer of Alice In Chains, Layne Staley (RIP brother) was truly one of the best and most unique voices of the decade. Their EP's Jar Of Flies and Sap have some great songs. The single album by a band called Mad Season, which was a supergroup formed from many bands including the guitarist of Pearl Jam, Mike McCready and Layne Staley as the vocalist, has some really great songs as well. Hope you look into them and enjoy some of their music.

    At Pearl Jam’s Hall of Fame induction, Eddie Vedder said this about his wife Jill. “You know, a kite doesn’t rise into the air unless someone is holding the string. But it’s so important, especially if that kite gets way high in the air, you really have to trust the person holding the line. And that person has to be loyal and believe in you and then have the strength to reel you back - and so to my wife Jill, I thank you.”

    Thing to remember, MTV Unplugged shows/video are designed to showcase bands in a stripped down acoustic versions of their own recorded music.
    The Pearl Jam performance rabbit hole is with getting into. They are a high energy grunge band that you would enjoy checking out live. Their song content also tackles deep personal and societal issues.

    The grunge genre REALLY was suited for the MTV Unplugged series. The entire performance from this episode was great, this song a true gem to it. The band and especially the emotive nature of Vedder's voice makes it come through so well... but yeah, the unplugged series was a great idea for MTV, but grunge bands are what really made it a higher level. The two, genre and breakdown to basics in the songs, brought out a lot of feeling and beauty to the music that in their more heavy/full-electrical performances wasn’t as obvious or had a different flavor to them.
