The appearance of the Mûmakil doesn't concern me because the Dunlendings were allied with the Corsairs, Haradrim, and Easterlings at that time. The appearance of the Great Eagle and the Watcher-like creature though is a bit of a head-scratcher. And where's Fréaláf? What they are doing with Hèra concerns me. That she has a much bigger role in it is to be expected and I'm perfectly fine with her being a shield-maiden. However, she should not be the primary protagonist. It's a mistake if they do that. It does concern me that they will just turn the story about how much Hera is "oppressed by her daddy" despite how amazing she is compared to all the men around her. I did sort of get those vibes from the trailer. I'm all up for a more complex political back and forth along with visuals that look to be on point.
Can you put Mumakils on a boat? The Dunlandings were assisted by a fleet that sailed up the Isen. I dont think they would bring war elephants on this type of raid.
They may have been allies but, correct me if I'm wrong it's been a while since my last reading, I believe the Mûmakil were regarded as semi-mythical in known Middle Earth before the War of the Ring, similarly to Kingsfoil and it's lore. If that was the case then a Mûmakil appearing for the Dunlendings would completely break Tolkien's lore, similarly to the Hobbits, Black Dwarf women, Black Elves and Sauron's antics in the "Rings of Power" series. I agree with your points on Hera, Helm and Fréaláf.
@@Tom-mk7nd Depends on the size of the Mûmak and the size of the ship I would think. They could have offloaded Mûmakil on the coast someplace, used Mûmaks that weren't full grown, or perhaps there was a species of Mûmak that wasn't as large as the ones at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. This would be similar to the smaller size of the Asian elephant or the African forest elephant compared to the African bush elephant.

I have no problem with a female protagonist but like a lot of us, I'm a bit gun-shy now after being burned all the overpowered Mary-Sue girl-bosses from the MCU, Lucasfilm, etc. Those abominations have all the character depth of a mud puddle and are about as interesting as a 5-pound bag of fertilizer. I am fervently hoping that the creators here have stayed away from that and concentrated on giving us a good story Edit PS: I have a feeling that the last bit with what I think is an orc looking for rings, is just an aside during the film, to help tie it in with LotR
I have to admit, the English trailer does not inspire me with any confidence in this winding up being a quality movie. To me, there is FAR too much attention on Helm's daughter (who as Yoysten mentioned is not even named in any of Tolkien's works) and she appears to wind up becoming the primary protagonist. This is, of course, ridiculous since Helm and Frealaf both played far greater roles in this saga of the Rohirrim than she did. Hope I'm wrong, but not gonna hold my breath on this one.
They didn't even care enough to give Helm's daughter an Anglo-Saxon name. They just went "Tolkien liked mythology and stuff, right? Call her Hera, that's from something ancient"
@@Brejan Hera actually is a name in Anglo-Saxon, although it's pronounced a little different, with more emphasis on the e, so it sounds more like Hey - ra.
@@phoenixact7219 Could you show me some source on that? Because I looked before I ever made a complaint about it, and could find no trace of such a name, only the word "hera" which means "One who obeys another/ a servant/ follower". Hardly a credible name for the daughter of a king.

IMO two possibilities: 1. it is the Watcher in the Water, because according to Gandalf it came from the Misty Mountains (the streams deep below it). So theoretically the creature can pass the Sirannon, cross a bit of Glanduin into Isen which is the natural defence against the Dunlendings and the enemy in this story. And later on retreats towards the Black Pool his old or new home. And Hera encounters The Watcher travelling near the river Isen. Just my take on it. 2. Not THE Watcher in the Water, just a similar one. Maybe this one gets killed and therefore no longer present canonically in LOTR?
I think you’re underestimating the amount of people who have never read the books and only know the movies. Those people are going to be a major factor to the popularity of this.
You’re right there! However, the men of the south focused their attacks on Gondor, while Easterlings and Dunlendings hit the Rohirrim. A small thing, but worth mentioning!
@@MenoftheWestI don’t remember if it is canon or fan fiction but I thought it was implied that Sauron gathered his evil human allies to attack Gondor and Rohan at the same time. The Corsairs, Haradrim and Easterlings would attack Gondor while the Corsairs took some of the Haradrim north to link up with the Dunlendings to attack Edoras
Awesome Review my friend! I reviewed the first one. then found out about Japanese one and it had so much extra good info! I made a second video reviewing that one too. I like you combined them! :D
I know I won't like this. Lost hope with a random "watcher" out randomly. That being said... Like what I said about the dumpster fires of RoP, I genuinely hope people who aren't into LOTR will be interested in it after this gets released.
Just about every other comment I've seen on the trailers is people thinking that this is going to be another "girl boss" wash like Rings of Power was, but lets be honest, Galadriel's surly war monger makeover was just a facet of the whole mess. The story was nonsensical and contrived from the beginning, nearly all it's characters are deeply unlikable but more than anything, it's nihilistic thesis of "touch the darkness" and all it's moral relativism is just not a debate that belongs in Tolkien. From the looks of the first trailer with it's talk of hope, WOTR might stick more to LOTR's huge theme of hope winning over despair. Also I think doing the film in animation rather than live action will also help it over the hurdle of time and resource management that also happened with ROP; LOTR was in preproduction for 2+ years to get the armor, sets, miniatures, weapons, locations, and costumes right so Middle Earth looked like a living, breathing world where ROP looked like a Halloween costume by comparison.
I’ve always loved anime as an art form and medium ,always thought Tolkien’s lore would translate amazing in anime . Lots of fantasy anime borrows a lot of Tolkien to begin with . I had no expectations ,because personally the Rohirrim were never a huge interest of mine ( as mainly elf lover ). But I’m starting to get excited ,it looks cool. I think it’s smarter to use part of the story that is not developed in depth and any artistic freedom won’t harm the grand plot that much . Especially when it covers a pretty tiny span from the chronology .
@menofthewest You did not touch much upon how "Tolkienesque" the story feels. What are you expecting from this? I am, as you, excited about the manga-style and does not see it as a hinderence. I also like the voice acting of the riders and Helm, reminding of PJ movies, which felt Tolkienesque. But Helm saying to his daughter "You could rule the world", I think, is a very modern message that clashes hard with Tolkien's views on power, inheritance and use of language. If anyone, it would be Sauron or Morgoth who used these words to tempt, and not Helm to his unnamed daughter (or son for that matter), even if Helm is not necessarily the most noble of characters, killing a guest in his house because of insults.
I speculate in another comment that this remark betrays a flaw in Helm, a desire for power in which Hera will be his instrument. Perhaps through a dynastic marriage, like the one between a Wilderland princess and the Gondorian heir which kicked off the Kinstrife. Let's face it, the Rohirrim's unbroken loyalty to Gondor makes them a bit too good to be true and unlike real-world models, such as the Gothic allies of Rome. Shock horror, another Jacksonian "darkening" with attendant outrage. I don't mean to be (too) provocative. Thanks for sparking some thoughts.
Agree 1000% with everything y’all said 🙌🏼 I’m so stoked for the animation! It looks so clean and exactly how you should do LOTR. Going to be a great story and excited to see the expansion on this storyline. Obviously “purist” are going to nitpick but I’m hyped! Anime always has so much potential and it stinks people don’t give it a try but it’s always great when they admit they love it haha
Part of me wonders if the Saruman is going to aid Hera somehow and drop a line to her about how he is interested in Isengard. Frealaf then awarding Isengard as a thank you gift to Saruman
It's interesting that Helm's story was chosen for adaptation instead of Eorl riding to Gondor's aid from the North Vales of the Anduin. I love the Rohirrim so I will find my way into a theater in December.
It looks cool! I think having the eagles seems neat. They never really got much play in the Jackson films. People complain about lore changes so much but the Jackson films changed it so they never talk to anyone lol. I'm excited! Thanks for your coverage of it!

How? Hera will be effectively an original character. As long as the beginning and end of the storyline meshes reasonably well with the lore, the life of Hera will be new.
Why would you think that? Because Rings of Power? Guess what? That is by a completely different studio (Amazon). This one involves Peter Jackson and others who respect Tolkien's lore. Why the worry?
@@devitradio The only reason I have confidence is because of who is behind the project. The fact it's on Amazon is ... well, remember they're the ones putting out that Wheel of Time abomination.

It does look like a studio Ghibli film that would be good. BUT it's basing itself in middle earth. So it's going to fan bait like crazy. Plus, it has more than just a whiff of the Mary Sue about it...

"Shadow of War" was the first thing that crossed my mind, when I saw Helm taking the ring off, but then I saw the "Ring-collector" scene at the end of the trailer, and now I'm pretty sure Helm's ring is one of the seven dwarf rings, and is coming from the horde of Scatha the Worm.
Notice how they mentioned that this is set in the peter Jackson lotr universe.
Is that where people say not my Tolkien?? or is that reserved for Rings of Power only. Or because so many people have canonized the trilogy in their heads, pj=tolkien, so all is well. ??? lol.
It's Tolkien's universe
@@travisspazz1624 the toiken universe is the books and the peter Jackson universe is the movies, games, and TV shows.
That's why some of the events and lore is changed like elves at helms deep and other stuff.
I am fervently hoping that the creators here have stayed away from that and concentrated on giving us a good story
Edit PS: I have a feeling that the last bit with what I think is an orc looking for rings, is just an aside during the film, to help tie it in with LotR
my question is why on earth are they making Hera the main character when she was so unimportant she didn't get a name in the canon?!?!?!?!?!?
She's the reason the story happens
@@Aistis1918- She is an NPC in the book.
@@somecelt5268 Not an rpg
Because it’s fun watching incels get mad about girls doing stuff 😂
And then they gave her a Greek name instead of an Anglo-Saxon inspired name. That shows this does not care about the source material.
Jeanne d'Archetype, warrior girl saves country. Pfft.
@@Brejan Actually, that's exactly the word I was thinking of. I just accepted it as a credible name because there were lost of women's names in that period that were about being good natured and obedient. Although. there were a lot of names meaning other things too.
If this becomes a success, I would love to see an animated version of the Kin-Strife. I’m not the biggest anime fan but I just really want to see the Kin-Strife brought to life and will take it in any format as long as I get to watch it
FORTH, EORLINGAS!
I really hope they bring an Ian McKellen because who knows if he's going to be able to play Gandalf again before he passes
Gandalf has his hands full in the Shire during the Long Winter, providing aid to the Hobbits.
hims smoking weed with the hobbits during this lmao
@@OfficialEdwardNewgate Not exactly! 🤣
IMO two possibilities:
1. it is the Watcher in the Water, because according to Gandalf it came from the Misty Mountains (the streams deep below it).
More woke stuff, just because it's anime doesn't mean you should excuse it.
I am soo early Helm's Deep isn't made yet. Nor Elves where there. I have reread the Book Version of Helm's Deep Today!!! I am Hyped!!!
I thought the Corsairs and Haradrim allied with the Dunlendings in order to attack both Gondor and Rohan at the same time in the lore
Nope
Awesome Review my friend! I reviewed the first one. then found out about Japanese one and it had so much extra good info! I made a second video reviewing that one too. I like you combined them! :D
where can one watch the Japanese Trailer?
Sorry, totally forgot to put it in the description! Should be there now!
The Japanese trailer is now on UA-cam.
@@MenoftheWest Thank you
Are we all forgetting that the hobbit and the lord of the rings were animations before they became live action?
War of the Girlboss
I know I won't like this. Lost hope with a random "watcher" out randomly.
That being said... Like what I said about the dumpster fires of RoP, I genuinely hope people who aren't into LOTR will be interested in it after this gets released.
6:06 this screenshot makes me wonder who'll voice Saruman since Christopher Lee has been dead for almost ten years.
Maybe who voiced Dooku in the Clone Wars...
r i.p to the great one
@@marionbaggins that's kinda what I'm thinking.
@@ajanimation8239 Glad we are in the same mindset.
I was hyped but worried the invincible marysue girlboss archetype might ruin it.
I mean, what else was it going to be? LOL!
The animation style is reminiscent of 90s anime!! Looks and feels great!!
I really hope this movie does well and we get more standalone Middle Earth stories in Peter Jacksons world. About different wars and conflicts.
So the writers introduce a few names from Tolkiens lore, but they don't actually feature in the movie, is that Tolkien to you?
It's interesting that Helm's story was chosen for adaptation instead of Eorl riding to Gondor's aid from the North Vales of the Anduin. I love the Rohirrim so I will find my way into a theater in December.
It looks cool! I think having the eagles seems neat. They never really got much play in the Jackson films. People complain about lore changes so much but the Jackson films changed it so they never talk to anyone lol. I'm excited! Thanks for your coverage of it!
Another stronk indapandant wahman not needing no men, stronger than any other men, faster than anyone. Another girlboss.
Where did you watch the whole movie? I thought it wasn't out till December, but I'm willing to watch it now! More info please.
@@devitradioBecause the character she is wasn't even named in the original story because she didn't do much. It was mostly helm hammerhands story And honestly it looks like it's completely taking him out and just made it all about her. So I'm probably not going to watch it. I was going to watch this because I thought I was going to be watching everything that helm did during this time but looks like that's not going to happen

@@devitradio is it hard to go through life with such a low IQ?
Looking for Barahir? Could be a tie into the Search for Gollum.
The trailer looks to me like a Peter Jackson cover. In many ways, it belongs with Rings of Power.
Personally, I feel like this is more of a "what and see" type situation. Don't get me wrong, I'm worried that it will be on par with Rings of Power as well. However, if we get a good story and a decently (I would say 'strongly', but I'd rather not get my hopes too high) written female lead, perhaps we'll look back as this and say, "This was one of the turning points for the Leading Lady!"
It certainly is curious that at least one popular Tolkien related YT channel can talk over the video but other channels are reduced to only using stills.
I've got a very nasty feeling that Helm will be pushed to a background character in his own story.
Even worse, a girlboss takes over the role that belong to Frealaf.
Hello there, I’ve jus subscribed to your channel as there is anime Lord of the Rings is coming. As an fan of both anime from Japan and Lord of the Rings, this is a big surprise and I must say it looks really great in anime.
The girl and the Eagle is so anime 😂
Visually looks amazing! Story is going to be trash with the warrior princess trope that’s been done to death
The Japanese trailer showing more of the Long Winter for Helm's last stand at least will be interesting to see.
The voice of the person collecting rings sounded like the mouth of Sauron to me and has those same clawed gauntlets
He wasn't even born back then, no?
The voice and cadence reminds me of the orc who ask Saruman "what does the eye command?"
More Boss girl nonsense? HARD PASS.
It actually says in the trailer that what Mordor wants with the rings. I believe though that Mordor is supposed to be empty at that point still. So it seems like it's just a nostalgy bait 🤷♀️
Another "GIRL BOSS" movie. Thank you Soros and Blackrock.......
The little boy and I've heard is a writer Peter Jackson is an executive or assistant executive producer from what I've heard other than that that's what I've heard other than the fact that the original Lord of the Rings movies and The Hobbit movie are specifically in the city view as the War of the World Herelm but it's not in the same universe as the rings of power separate separate showrunners separate flair of the separate feel in that time of the same people completely different
I likd it until now
The English one looks like more woke girl boss trash.
They're both woke crap, stop giving the japs a pass simply because it's anime.
PJ is one of the producers

It's just gonna be another Guyladriel show. Stop getting fooled and all hyped up.

War of the AMAZON Warriors who are those involved in this movie throwing manure at JRRT ! F that!
If they dont make characters super strong like son goku (hate that on anime) think it looks great
If they want to tell the story from Heras perspective: fine with me. But if they make her the main hero who changes the course of history, Im out.
Or in the end she does marry Wulff and becomes queen of the Dunlandings
Well now I'm just nervous they're gonna try to turn LOTR into modern day star wars
More woke crap girlboss fanfiction ....
Why does Hera have red hair?
It does look like a studio Ghibli film that would be good. BUT it's basing itself in middle earth. So it's going to fan bait like crazy. Plus, it has more than just a whiff of the Mary Sue about it...
I dont know if this is just me... But one of the things that makes me mad the most... are all these films and stuff using the Eagles like they are these expendable beings. Like Gandalf had so much sway with them because he saided Gwaihir's life. But yeah that is just what drives me wild the most.
16:09 Possibly searching for Ring of Barahir
Only caring about the English!
Pros: At least it's taking place in Rohan. Voice acting and music sound potentially great.
Cons: Everything else.
They are looking for the one ring.
So... Hèra meeting the Great Eagles means she could become Middle-Earth's Hawk Tuah Girl?

The Japanese trailer takes 45 seconds to tell a story using images that is so clear you don't need to understand the language to follow it.
The American trailer wastes the first 45 seconds telling us nothing, with the words only adding more confusion.
I think her name should be more original.
