    I hope whatever creative liberties they make in the movie enhance the story instead of messing it up/making it more convoluted

    "Rohan my lord is ready to fall."
    For most readers this was a quick blip in the vast histories of middle earth. I barely remembered anything about this conflict when the show was announced. So glad and thankful that these little known tales are given a chance to shine. I cannot wait to see the Rohirram ride and fight again 🥹❤

    The anime is from the same creators as the LOTR trilogy, including Eowyn s actress as narrator. It’s a lower stakes risk of a movie for creators, based on book material.

    I’m looking forward to The War of the Rohirrim more than for The Rings of Power. . The main challenge will be creating a compelling story faithful to Tolkien lore which can be appealing for a wider audience. Without Elves, wizards and magic rings

    Great video as always but I don’t have much faith in the fan fiction film they’re planning. 😢hopefully it’s not what the reports have been saying though.

    It is understood from the interviews that the character Héra, who will play the role of Helm's daughter, will play a more dominant role in the anime. I don't want the character of Héra to get in the way of Helm, the main character of this story. I have reservations about this.

    frankly, I have zero hope on War of Rohirrim making any real effort to remain true to Tolkien's world. Almost willing to bet they make the Daughter the one who keeps making the "right" choices while the men foolishly get themselves killed and probably will be the won to reconquer Edoras.

  • @saladinbob
    @saladinbob 3 місяці тому +2

    Regarding the Oliphant, it is well within the realms of realism to assume the Easterlings and the Haradrim traded with each other, and that some of that trade might include war elephants. This was not unheard of in our own history during antiquity so I take no issue there. Where I do is the shield maiden, that is absolutely not within the realms of realism. I'd sooner believe an army of Dwarves rode in on goats to turn the tide of the war than a shield maiden in this society.

    Although you're right that Tolkien never lined up this story with modern views on so-called "colonialism" (a term that I dislike), I have to say that I never was able to take Rohan's side in this conflict, and felt that the Dunlendings had real grievances. Frankly, I liked the Rohirrim less and less, the more I read about them, and that surely would have disappoint the professor bitterly.
    Between some of their cruel acts such as driving off the Dunlendings from land they'd lived on for centuries (possibly without choice, even if they were squatters: see below) and their hunting of the Woses "for sport," and the vile behavior of Helm Hammerhand (who seems psychologically unstable), I was never able to sympathize with them or find them "cool." I don't think I'm alone in this opinion, either, as there must have been a reason why Peter Jackson left them out of the movies altogether.
    I might also point out that there are some things I've read (possibly non-canon), which add to the Dunlendings' grievances and make their story sound sadder. For one thing, the author of the old "Tolkien Encyclopedia" suggested that they or their ancestors had been a civilized people once, all on their own, but that their fortunes had fallen low (Dunharrow perhaps being one of their settlements), something that the Rohirrim can't boast. Similarly, one of the Tolkien wiki pages (which I can no longer find) claims that they originated in Minhiriath, and area heavily deforested and colonized by the Numenoreans, forcing them into places like Dunland and Calenardhon . . . the altter of which the Gondorians and Rohirrim took away from them anyway, without giving them their old land back. If either of these is true to Tolkien's story, then they had a real reason to be hostile, and even their allying with the Easterlings from such an early point is understandable. (I have, however, other thoughts on that.)

    • @istari0
      @istari0 3 місяці тому +1

      I don't think Tolkien ever intended us to think the Rohirrim or anyone other of the Free Peoples were always in the right. He depicts the Númenoreans as over time becoming cruel tyrants who oppressed many of the peoples in the coastal areas of Middle-Earth. And some of their victims included the ancestors of the Dunlendings although I don't think they had actual nations, more like settlements here and there. Likewise, the Rohirrim at times did evil things although they never were on the side of Sauron.
      The Rohirrim were descended from the Men of Rhovanion, who at one time had significant kingdoms in that land in the earlier 3rd Age and for the most part were allied with Gondor even then.
      When you say "I don't think I'm alone in this opinion, either, as there must have been a reason why Peter Jackson left them out of the movies altogether," to whom are you referring?

    • @aarfcrw-bx7n
      @aarfcrw-bx7n 29 днів тому

      @@istari0 Im pretty sure he was referring to the Drúedain/Woses with "I don't think I'm alone in this opinion, either, as there must have been a reason why Peter Jackson left them out of the movies altogether,'' as the Woses had been hunted for sport by the Rohirrim.

  • @Cytl-bu3nq
    @Cytl-bu3nq 3 місяці тому

    Helm may have been a "hero" to the rohirrim( can't stand ther rohirrim myslef, so maybe there's bias on my part), but the fact that he waited until Freca back was turned before shoving a spear in his back speaks volumes about him and the rohirrim as a whole, don't get me wrong there are a few good ones, but on the whole the rohirrim are a bunch of a-holes.

    Literally pick any other middle earth tale! What fantasy elements are there in this story? No elves, dwarves, not even hobbits, no eagles, ents, trolls, goblins... This could easily just be an episode of Vikings. Was excited to hear they were doing an animated movie because it opens the door to a lot of cool stuff but then when this was announced, i was bummed i dont understand their decision making its the same thing with the choice to make The Hunt for Gollum the next live action film.😮‍💨
