The way it checks the point value has to do with the money value of the items as well, so having really anything that is both expensive and iridium quality will just win outright. However, 9 iridium quality Chub fish is the safest bet due to their abundance in most seasons, as well as the fact that they're one of the easier fish to catch.

So I make tea saplings to plan my animal pens out and bring in tea leaves when they're ready. Later I invested in a shed for jam/jelly makers and make 20+k in profits per batch of 137 leaves. Another perk is that they don't need reseeding, but you can continuously make the saplings and sell on the side at 250g a sapling.

I typically go with a set of Six produce, Two fish and a diamond. Which gets First place every time. And mining can both help you to obtain a diamond as well as unlocking sprinklers that you can use to lower time and energy spent watering plants. Then close off the day with fishing, selling unneeded catches for a little extra cash or eating a few for the energy to keep fishing, further helping raise the level. Once at a high enough level, a full power fishing pole cast along with a flawless catch will result in a high quality fish with a chance for an iridium quality. It's probably best to note that keeping gold quality items is also valid until you can obtain an iridium quality to replace one.

Just a reminder, you don’t need chubs. You just need 9 iridium quality items, and they can be anything. I always win first place with my iridium quality eggs. You will loose your items if you pass out on a floor of the mines, get out of them and pass out after. You can go in the wizard’s tower and change your gender, and you’ll get all the items you missed.
You get cookies from mom for your male character, but you get money from your dad for your female character. I don't think its a gender thing, I think its a "mom wants to send a gift with love" and "dad wants to send the basic gift of money". As a person with a mom and a dad, I personally think its realistic.

In the game, tea isn't very profitable. Although it is a favorite gift to Caroline and Lewis. Pickled Tea Leaves make more gold, and selling the tea saplings makes a LOT more gold.
You can also win the fair with 99 stone. Step 1 get 99 stone step 2 use the stone to make a staircase step 3 put the staircase on your pants slot and it will turn into gold trimed lucky purple shorts put the shorts in the booth and boom instant win ( this does actually work, try it, and the purple shorts work for all of mayor Lewis is other things that require purple shorts)

I did a play-til-grandpa run and the second year of the harvest fest I just grabbed whatever gold star crops I had, some Iridum bars I had lying around, some wine, some jam, a diamond I found in the mines that day, and a pail of iridum milk. Got 1000 points for my display without even really trying.
Gotta level up your fishing and get the Iridium Rod, then when fishing, fish out at the furthest spot on the bar instead of in the middle, then don't let the fish leave the green bar area while reeling in.
I think I was seeing ads for it for six months and I wasn’t interested because I thought it was one of those pay-to-play scam games, but it isn’t. Just the fact that there are no in app purchases gets a 👍 from me. Anyway, I saw a stream of someone playing and I gave it a try. It’s a freaking great game.
The chub thing is surprising. I used to plot out my grange display so carefully. I made sure I always had a legendary fish (usually the Crimsonfish, as it was usually too difficult to get the Legend in year one, though I HAVE done it before), either a diamond or a prismatic shard... I also like to save certain high quality things for birthdays (like blueberries for Lewis) and use them on the display since you can take the stuff back.
You won’t loose items, but you WILL lose substantial amounts of money (early game) if you pass out in the mine… If you don’t have the rail cart, the latest you can leave and safely get back to your farm is 12~ (you gotta BOOK it though). Once you have the minecart, you can push it to 1:00 and still make it in time. Or, ya know… you could use a totem to get back to your farm? (Btw, scull cavern you should prolly leave at 12, but if you’re feeling bold you can push it to 1 since it takes about 30 in-game minutes to get from the top floor of the cavern to your farm)
Or at the stardew valley fair you can use mayor Lewis's 'shorts' and he'll give you lots of tokens ( idk the exact amount 😅) and you'll get to keep the shorts too!

Cookies may sound bad, but they were a lifesaver in my first playthrough and was the only reason I was able to get to level 20 in the mines.
The problem with mining until passed out is our money drastically gone
You won’t loose items, but you WILL lose substantial amounts of money (early game) if you pass out in the mine…
If you don’t have the rail cart, the latest you can leave and safely get back to your farm is 12~ (you gotta BOOK it though). Once you have the minecart, you can push it to 1:00 and still make it in time.
Or, ya know… you could use a totem to get back to your farm?
(Btw, scull cavern you should prolly leave at 12, but if you’re feeling bold you can push it to 1 since it takes about 30 in-game minutes to get from the top floor of the cavern to your farm)
those cookies though works wonders when you first enter the mines and you get low on energy
Or at the stardew valley fair you can use mayor Lewis's 'shorts' and he'll give you lots of tokens ( idk the exact amount 😅) and you'll get to keep the shorts too!

Tea trees are still useful for fences as they cant decay and dont die in any season
I'm still new to the game and just started learning how to fish but this came up in my recommended because of it and today I learned there's a casino so I look forward to finding that
