Brilliant review. I've watched dozens on UA-cam after seeing the movie 3 times. If this movie isn't nominated for Best Movie, Best Actor, Best Director, etc it will be a travesty. Not a Godzilla fan but lived in Japan for 15 years and although some language nuances are lost in translation, this movie is relatable to normal humans on so many levels ... just as you have beautifully articulated. Well done!
The Monsterverse is what Showa Godzilla movies were. Godzilla beat up monster dude, human characters truly one dimensional, in it for guy in rubber suit beating up other guy in rubber suit. It's a beat 'em up fun. I still love those movies. But DAMN did Minus One hit me in the feels.
Wow, finally a review not yelling about "How Godzilla destroyed Hollywood and wokeness" or whatever, but rather touched upon the main points of the story that made it so memorable 👏 Great video, couldn't agree more.
I just can’t get this movie outta my head since seeing it. I’ve gone back for a 2nd viewing and I’m already itching to see it again. This is one of those rare times where you see a film understand exactly the message it’s going for and then proceed to execute it perfectly. Also, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so much pure adrenaline watching a movie while FEARING for the lives of ALL the main characters and side characters. Seriously. And the characters are so damn competent, too! I walked out of this movie with a smile on my face. I swear, I could gush about it for hours…
People want less human character focus because they're often cardboard cutouts that are not interesting or engaging. They're just filler used to set the table for the next monster scene. That's where Minus One changed the narrative. If we don't care about the people, then the impact of Godzilla's destruction is lessened. I've heard too many people say that while watching the Legendary movies, they hoped all the humans would die. But where does that leave the plot of the movie? What's the point of Alien if Ripley dies at the end after the whole crew perished? If the shark kills Brody, don't we walk out of the theater asking what the point was?

People usually want less humans in these movies because the humans often suck. That wasn’t at all the case in Godzilla Minus One.
