I'm Japanese. I didn't know why I couldn't stop thinking about this movie until I watched your review. We want to care for other people. We want to be cared for. We are not just audience. Not box office numbers that big studios' executives concern. We are humans with hearts and souls.
This film has two foci: Godzilla and Koichi the pilot. Koichi may even be more important. Is this a Godzilla film, or a film where Godzilla plays a role?
Very good film analysis and review. I lost my love for Godzilla with the American monster verse but this movie absolutely sparked a new joy. I believe this movie will be the go to godzilla movie for decades and a classic.
this deserves so much more likes and views this video is amazing and its an amazing in depth look of the movie which i personally loved and one of the feelings i felt during the movie was just dread and i felt bad for the characters watching the main character building a new family knowing its gonna be ripped away or watching his partner sacrificing herself for him. truely an amazing film, standing out from all the other basic movies we've had over the last few movies (yes i know there is some exceptions)
This is better than a well-done remake. It's proper self-reflection on why we create monsters in the first place. The inadequacy of the soldier having to stand in-between the insurmountable destruction of war and the fragile nest of home. It really stuck a deeper universal nucleus in the human condition than the more uniquely, exclusive "We got the worst bomb dropped on us" allegory.
Your criticisms are a bit hyperbolic for the CG stuff. CG is not an issue when it’s done right, but some studios fail to deliver on the “why” someone should be in CG and capitalizing on its advantages. Besides that I agree with the other perspectives. I like the “fun” action movies some Godzilla films bring, but I’m in absolute awe when we get Godzilla movies like this, 54 Godzilla, and Shin.
I like CG when its thematic, or when its done well enough to be convincing. Even Minus One has its moments of bad CG (particularly on the non Godzilla stuff). My main issue is how over dependent we’ve become for it. I prefer tangibility in film, I find that miniatures being destroyed is more technically and visually impressive and holds more weight to the destruction than digital bodies and artificial camera shakes. That said, for me , its more fun watching the “goofier”Godzilla movies when I can geek out on these aspects.
I think the question of Godzilla's size is also a matter of the time period. You can have a 400' Godzilla in modern times, when the buildings are at least as tall as he is. In 1940's Japan, however, there are no skyscrapers, so Godzilla needs to be his more original size so that he doesn't seem so out of scale.
You are kind of crazy for preferring the suits, I think the MVs are juiced up Showa films but goddamn. That doesn’t make them good. Thanks to this film, I got what I wanted from my Godzilla movie.
I hear a lot of good things about it, but until it's dubbed, there's no chance I could enjoy it, and I'm pretty typical. Imagine how popular the movie would have been if subtitles weren't needed. Now I have to hope to avoid spoilers until that day 😄
I mean, it did well. I don't know what you are on. I saw 3x with no problem. Biff language and the scene makes sense even if you don't speak japanese. Plus, maybe you're not a fast reader. It's popular. Haven't you seen the reviews? You're on UA-cam getting the review how great it is. You're smoking some bad shit my guy. Smh..
@ivanriverajr5012 it doesn't have anything to do with reading speed, I read it all just fine. I just hate it taking my view away from the scene to read and miss all the nuances in the way things are said. I would rather read a book or watch a movie, but not both. It's the opposite of immersive. But AI will enable making good dubs of anything, including using the original voice and moving their lips in the video to sync, and from your home pc so I won't even need to wait until the studios get around to it. I'll wait until then. I'm glad lots of other people do enjoy it, I'm a Godzilla fan... but after all day writing code, the last thing I want to do at night is read a movie.
The Monsterverse doesn’t misunderstand Godzilla, as there has been different interpretations of the character. In countless previous films, he has been the anti-hero and protector of the Earth. The Monsterverse gets this version right. So your assertion at 8:19 completely lacks any bases in the history of the character.

ありがとう This comment means a lot to me ❤️
This was a Godzilla film where I wanted Godzilla to disappear so the characters would be safe. Incredible feat!
It's the first Godzilla movie that I actually cared for the characters.
This is honestly the first Godzilla movie that I felt invested in the characters. I definitely agree about the protagonist. Great video!

This movie blew my expectations away, my favorite movie of the year.
One of my favorite movies ever now

Thank you so much, I wish I had more access of the film for further analysis. I’d love to revisit it when the home media releases.

Not only the greatest Godzilla movie ever but one of the best movies of the last 10 years.
This movie was a HUGE middle finger to Hollywood, hopefully they’ll take notes from this movie and start making good movies again
Excellent explication.

You’re so right, it truly was an experience.

The US won't make a really good Godzilla movie until we fall out of love with nuclear weapons.
The US is doing about all they can (although they definitely could try harder). A true Godzilla story is a Japanese one.

Unfortunately, this won’t be nominated for any Oscars. Because there’s no black lesbians in it.
Christ dude. Lesbians and black people exist. Get over it.
Hollywood is overcompensating for its racist past.
