I can’t believe how good this movie is. Me being an Iraq war veteran this hit so close to the heart I never thought I would tear up watching a Godzilla movie. It’s a masterpiece.
As a war vet with survivors guilt, this movie hit me hard at various points. I never in my life thought about experiencing the world from the view of a failed kamikaze pilot. And the way they tore down Western movie tropes 🤌🏾 masterful. A direct shot at Disney marvel on my opinion.
The movie was 2 hours 3 days ago. Ive watched probably 10 hours now of reviews and praise for the film and cannot get it out of my head. Such an amazing film.
I feel like I’m in another dimension, because I would have never thought people would be having a Godzilla movie as movie of the year; and that makes me happy.
I think one genius move the movie did was make it a pretty small scale struggle. There were no govts or superpowers involved, it was a ragtag bunch of normal people trying to fight impossible odds.
This movie is good because, even if you removed Godzilla completely and replaced him with a tornado or tsunami or some other catastrophic event, the characters and the story itself would not be diminished. They would stand perfectly on their own. This is why so many people are enjoying this movie, it transcends being just a monster movie.
One could say that if you considered Godzilla as a nuclear war allegory, this movie is a perfect sequel to Oppenheimer. “Now I have become death, the destroyer of the world.” - Godzilla
I saw this in theaters per your recommendation, and wow. What a film. I brought my girl who isn’t the biggest fan of superhero/monster movies and she loved it. That spoke volumes to me. I have a 7 month old daughter and I can’t stop seeing children in movies now without thinking of my own and I lose it.
Honestly, I don't even have any kids but when Akiko started crying for Noriko, it wrecked me. And again when Koichi tells her he won't leave her and then leaves when she falls asleep 😭

Im 42 yrs old and went to the theater with my 7 yr old son to watch this movie. I was tearing up up and trying to hide it by the end of this movie. A Godzilla movie. A Godzilla movie had me crying at the end of it. A Godzilla movie
I started my new job today and was literally telling everyone to check the movie out in theaters lol . I couldn't stress to them enough how SCARY Godzilla is in this one.
This review is so touching! I’m Japanese but I haven’t watched movie because I’m in the UK now, It releasing at 15th here. I booked the tickets and forced my husband to come with me. (He is not Godzilla fan at all 😅) I hope he likes it! Thank you for your such powerful and wonderful review!
Watched it yesterday. Absolutely, this is an instant classic. Was blown away. The cast was perfect. The story threads tied in beautifully. Godzilla was a bonus. Just pure cinematic joy
Saw this movie tonight with my dad. It was my second viewing. He's usually a really tough grader on movies....he gave this a NINE out of ten. I have never heard him give this kind of rating to any other movie, ever.
I will not lie, when the MC broke down and told his lover about his failures, I was brought to near tears, my eyes watered... The acting in this movie was fantastic.
The story just draws you in, it's epic. I haven't felt the need to really care about characters as much as I did in this film. The graphics, visual effects, musical score, and audio effects are just amazing.
Incredible this movie with just a 15 million dollar budget looks as good as movies with 200 million dollar budgets! But unlike most of them, this movie is well written! And unlike most giant monster movies, this one makes you actually care about the human characters!
It's so much more deserving of winning a best picture Oscar than any Hollywood film from the past decade. They won't allow that to happen but this movie is a master class in film making from top to bottom.
Super glad you had me watch this film. This film really touches the heart in more ways I can fathom. I feel like many other films have tried to express a characters motivation to continue to living and fighting, but they don't convey it and tug onto those emotional strings as hard as Godzilla does. What a masterpiece of a movie.
We saw this yesterday and WOW. Even today it's still mind blowing. A movie with a good script, story, visual effects and music score. Best movie of the year.
I saw it with some friends on its 3rd day of release. It is such a damn good movie. The characters and presentation gave it so much weight. Im planning to see it again in IMAX but that first experience will stick with for years to come. I can see this movie becoming one of the greatest period pieces of our lifetime. It wont be the absolute best but so many people will look back and recognize the underlying message this movie conveys. You can feel the passion that went into this movie. Truly a breath of fresh air.
You've struck so many points that mirror my sentiments also. I've seen it twice, and the second viewing only made it richer. Yeah, I fell in love with them. The camaraderie and friendship of those men floating in that little wooden boat really moved me... them facing a God of nature and war. The vibe of this movie is just different, consider how many of American viewers are vested emotionally in these characters, perhaps a bit of a silly assessment, but lets be honest, we care about them, We want them to Live. There's so much I want to say, so I'll throw this out : When Koichi walked in and Noriko stood up, I confess my crush meter went off scale..Lol. 😂😂😂 when you talked about getting your friends to see this movie in an authoritative way I was dying. That is EXACTLY how I have been with this film and I feel EXACTLY like you do about it as a masterpiece. I have seen this movie 4 times now. Talked about it endlessly to friends, strangers, etc. I even got my boss to go see it with me and my wife's parents. 😂 I could honestly watch this movie once a week and never tire of it. I think it should run in theaters as a public service to mankind. You see this film and it changes you somehow. Thanks for sharing your passion about this movie.
This was the first Godzilla movie I watched for the time ever in Theaters. This movie reminds us of the trauma that people when we come home from war. This Godzilla film brought so much emotion on the chaos and destruction an atomic bomb can bring in a War which can have catastrophic consequences.
I saw this movie with a group of friends. We were all blown away by this movie. It was great definitely worth the trip to movies. First movie I've seen in theaters in months...maybe years. And I've already seen this 2x. I can't recommend this movie enough to people.
This definitely wasnt on my 2023 bingo card either and neither was crying while a UA-cam movie reviewer talked about this Godzilla movie! Lol😭 One more thing, if people view it streaming, please even if you've never watched subtitle movie, please DO watch it with subtitles! I think a lot of the emotions could be lost in a probably inevitable dubbed version.
Yeah I saw Godzilla Minus One this past Saturday with friends. Godzilla Minus One had such emotional storytelling and had the themes of the tragedy of war, survivior's guilt and the effects of PTSD. There were so many moments that almost made me tear up such Shikishima and Akiko finding Noriko in the hospital in the end of the film.
I saw it on 12/5, it's easily the best movie I have seen in a long time. I was very glad to hear that it's getting a longer theatrical run due to the hugely positive audience reactions and continually growing interest. I usually don't care at all about the humans in a Godzilla movie, they are nothing but an annoyance. This time I was invested in them and their survival. Didn't expect that!
This!!^^^ Ive seen it three times also, twice at a local cinemark, and once in Imax and it was so damn incredible each time. The first time and wanting to relive that is definitely the reason ive brought someone every time ive went, and i would love to keep going and taking people to see it! This is also my first Kaiju film unless you count that one Dragon war movie from like 2007. I dont know if that counts as kaiju
Saw this movie yesterday. Godzilla Minus One is one of the best movies I've ever seen and definitely the best movie of 2023. It has heart, emotion, terror. You really feel a connection to the characters and want the best for them and truly feel terrible for them as the movie goes on. Godzilla is truly terrifying. Definitely buying this on Blu-ray/DVD
I saw this pop up on my phone notifications as I am sitting in the parking lot of my local movie theater getting ready to go see this movie! So pumped and I'll watch your video after I get out of the movie!
I love how you bared your emotions over this film. That was the biggest surprise with my 2 (soon 3) viewings of this film. In the second viewing I paid more attention to Godzilla’s look because on first viewing I was watching the crowds of humans during the trampling scenes because I CARED about them! Because they were made real through the amazing writing of the preceding human scenes. Clearly the best film this year. Emotions in a Godzilla film!
Just finished the movie when this video dropped and maaaaaaaan!!! Amazing!!! Made me feel like a kid watching my first Godzilla movie. Hearing the classic song gave me chills and excitement. And yooooo! That silent scene!!! Muah French kiss
That’s just it man, everyone thinks “Godzillas a silly giant monster” but no one bothers to look into wether that’s true or not. This movie encapsulates it and shows it so beautifully everyone can see it. But he’s never just been a “silly monster” he’s a nuclear allegory and continues to find new ways to adapt that and attach onto current events and disasters.
Alright, you convinced me to watch the movie. I mean, I was already going to see it sometime but the way you talked about this movie and even throwing it in your Dragon Ball channel just means I'm going to see it in a couple of hours from now.
This movie was fantastic. I can’t explain how I was actually drawn into the movie numerous times because of the great acting. The way they treat Godzilla was truly a show of respect for the character. There was times I could see the weakness in some of the special effects but I actually didn’t care. I was so drawn into the movie I didn’t give a dang. I’ve watched all of the Godzilla movies and I truly believe this is the best one. None of the previous movies has the effects on me this one had…thank you for this movie…
To put things into perspective, -1.0 Godzilla behaved like the bloodthirsty monsters he had fought against for decades. Only no good benign monster is coming to save Japan from his wrath. It's up to the indomitable human will to survive and rise up to fight as one.
I'm 46. Terminator 2 Judgment day made me cry back in the day. It was about the father-son aspect between a fatherless child and a machine that would never leave him. And the AI element that was soon to come. "Now I know why you cry, but it's something I can never do" That's deep! I was raised without a dad too. That's deep for a kid like me who's dad never cared about him.
I was in seventh grade when Star Wars came out. It was ALL we talked about for months and months. One thing that set it apart was its themes of heroism and optimism. The country had just gone through a decade of decline and failure, and we needed a reminder that doing great things was still possible. Star Wars provided that reminder, right at the time we needed it most. Maybe Godzilla Minus One is a reminder that great films can still be made, even in this era of Hollywood flops and CGI overload.
I just got home a little while ago from seeing this movie and all I have to say is OMG ,best movie I seen this yr. INCREDIBLE, nothing short of a masterpiece.
I just watched this movie today and I think it deserves some awards. The music, the CGI, the ACTING. Wow, what a human story. While I can nitpick on a couple things in the movie. It simply was incredible. I am SO GLAD that it was released in the US and I went to see it in the theater. This is by far my FAVORITE Godzilla movie ever! I'm still excited about it!
You mention all the great movies without touching on Kung Fu Hustle. I know it is not what you think of as far as great writing but watch it again and note the villian introduction. Its terrifying and the acting for about three minutes by the extras is world class.
I love when movies have deeper meanings, layers and messages to be heard. It's a total shame that far too many people view movies for the surface level aspects only and can't be bothered to think deeper into it. This movie was great. I've become jaded and negative about movies these last couple years because it's been nothing but garbage from Disney. This was needed and refreshing.
Bro... no apologies necessary!! I have seen your previous comments video on your previous channel about 15 times now, just to feel that vibe again and again!! Your comments are just making me more and more excited!! I would have loved to see your face when making this video so I can see the look in your eyes when you're speaking!! Would you do a Q&A?
Thank you for this heartfelt review about this movie. I’ve only seen it once and I plan on seeing it again next few days and I know exactly what you’re saying. I felt exactly the same way going through this movie. Just a thought of what these people went through during the war devastating their cities and then while trying to recuperate after the war an even more powerful devastating force hits their country and they have to go through it all over again!
You can't say it but I will. I am a combat Vet that lost a woman I loved 15 yrs ago to cancer and I've lost a child. This movie had me shed tears and the little actress that played Akiko broke me the two times she cried. But it also shows a theme that people must have in life. Yes, life at times is Godzilla in this film, and you think you are being punished for actions in your life, but life finds a way and life is a gift, so don't waste it
I watched it last night with my girl it was definitely the best Godzilla movie I’ve seen she was literally crying i teared up a lil bit not gonna lie i cant believe im even saying that with a Godzilla movie
I cannot express in a few sentences how good this film is. With all of the weaving of post war Japan and Godzilla the story is solid and man those Godzilla scenes are so good (the music is what drives it home to the next level).
When I left the theater this last Tuesday the film has stuck with me ever since! No other film this year has done that! I felt like I had just eaten the most refreshing meal like the steak analogy you used. It deserves some Oscars! I loved it with all my heart.
Your summary here hit on all the spots. My favorite line “ It’s your war finally over now?” What a great line and message at the end!!!!! I didn’t expect this film to be a serious film and an emotional film. I cried a few times watching this. My 9-year-old son is the biggest Godzilla fan ever and he has watched all of the Japanese Godzilla classic films so I had to take him and my dad to see it yesterday and they love this film. This film is deep and emotional so it might be hard for a young child to grasp but he was just crazy about Godzilla himself and he loves the family story. I'm not a Godzilla fan so when my son said Toho made this film I was like huh? What?? No idea? 😂😂😂 I swear my baby knows his stuff man!!!
Really been trying to get everyone I know to go out and watch this damn movie. Not just people who like anime or Godzilla fans (which I think those categories overlap) but just everybody it was very powerful not to mention the quaint 15 million dollar budget
This movie had everything. It made me feel things I didn't expect because like you said, its a Godzilla movie. Finally got to see a month later, and I am so glad it was still available in one of the theaters near me. This is also one of those movies that are best experienced in the cinema. Godzilla in this movie was terrifying, and that fear is only made bigger with the big screen.
Best movie to hit the theaters since Bladerunner 2049… this movie is instantly in my top 10 movies ever, maybe top 5. Please go see this on the big screen, Im going back to IMAX when it is re-released… I think soon!
Thanks for the review! The movie hit a lot of topics rather well in my opinion. PTSD, survivor's guilt, family loss, overcoming adversity, resolving with others, etc....in a Godzilla movie. This wasn't a high dollar spectacle, but a good movie, a story that evoked sadness, joy and holding onto hope through all of it. So different from most modern movies that are dark, characters seem angry all the time and at each other in some sort of spotlight competition and finishing the movie with a lazy, unsatisfying resolution. I came out from Gozilla Minus One not just thinking "Oh good movie", but I also feeling pretty good. "Sell out critic" lol
I understand how you feel when I went to go see the movie for the first time I was just shocked and I was nonresponsive . Every bit of me started shaking the night I got home after watching that movie I couldn’t fall to sleep until five in the morning, the movie traumatized me so much I literally Hid everything Godzilla related away that was in my room,I can still hear its roar…..
same here - I couldn't find the words when I got home. I was trying to explain it to my roommate. I want to see it again, but trapped by an incoming snow storm this weekend. I could walk to the theater, but not really wanting to in the snow.
Glad you loved it man. I didn't see your first couple videos on it, but curious if you ever saw Shin Godzilla (written and directed by Evangelion creator)? Without it, Minus One wouldn't have been made. I still prefer Shin Godzilla, but it's a very different movie - but I will say that the human characters in Minus One are MUCH more enganging. Since Shin Godzilla was set in my current nieghborhood in modern times, that also made it resonate with me more, especially just a few years after the Fukushima nuclear disaster and tsunami (which Shin Godzilla is a comment on). These and the original 1954 are among the best Godzilla films. I do still love many of the Heisei series, especially Godzilla vs Biollante, some fantastic practical effects and wild story, albeit some goody moments too - but all serious fun. Akira Toriyama even appears as an extra in Godzilla 1984 (he's a huge Godzilla fan as you know). Anyway, always down to talk Godzilla! I'm actually going to ride Godzilla the Ride with the lead designer on Minus One next week... Yamazaki may even join :O
Great time to be alive as a Godzilla-fan. I still get the chills when thinking about this movie. Simply a Masterpiece! Will be going on Monday a 2. time with my gf to see it, and am tempted to go see the movie tonight by myself. Well worth the re-watch.
I was around when Star Wars first came out and stood in line that when’t around the block. I saw it multiple times because it blew me away. This movie Godzilla Minus 1.0 is the first time since then that got me so excited and sad and scared, the music, the story telling, the effects is so utterly epic. This is the best movie I’ve seen in a long time. There have been others that where a lot of fun but this one….WOW!! 🎉😮
This movie got me in tears I can't remember the last movie that made me cry. I'm a Godzilla fan, but this Godzilla was terrifying, especially watching this on IMAX.
I just watched it a second time. There are so many subtle things I missed the first time just because I wasn't prepared for everything that was about to come at me.
I went to IMBD, and had no idea Takashi Yamazaki had also directed my previously all-time favorite Japanese live action film the 2010 "Space Battleship Yamato". All you have to do is watch that film, and you can see where the amazing storytelling in Godzilla Minus One originates from.
I agree.
respect man! I love you for this and for still being here after all these years.
Agree with you but I don’t get why you target Disney and marvel in particular. It is a Hollywood problem, not specific to Disney and marvel
Thank you for your service, I hope you can deal with the memories and make it through, cheers 🍻
If someone doesn't feel something, that person needs help.
The movie was 2 hours 3 days ago. Ive watched probably 10 hours now of reviews and praise for the film and cannot get it out of my head. Such an amazing film.
I am 59 years old. Saw this twice in 2 days and cried both times. Magnificent Film! Great job on your video here.

I feel like I’m in another dimension, because I would have never thought people would be having a Godzilla movie as movie of the year; and that makes me happy.

I saw this movie with a group of friends. We were all blown away by this movie. It was great definitely worth the trip to movies. First movie I've seen in theaters in months...maybe years. And I've already seen this 2x. I can't recommend this movie enough to people.
Good taste
This definitely wasnt on my 2023 bingo card either and neither was crying while a UA-cam movie reviewer talked about this Godzilla movie! Lol😭
One more thing, if people view it streaming, please even if you've never watched subtitle movie, please DO watch it with subtitles! I think a lot of the emotions could be lost in a probably inevitable dubbed version.
THANK YOU!
I saw "Minus One" twice in the 4DX Theater. Had a blast. It's been a while since I was this thrilled to see a movie in a theater.
Yeah I saw Godzilla Minus One this past Saturday with friends. Godzilla Minus One had such emotional storytelling and had the themes of the tragedy of war, survivior's guilt and the effects of PTSD. There were so many moments that almost made me tear up such Shikishima and Akiko finding Noriko in the hospital in the end of the film.
he deserved her to be alive after what he went through
I suggest you put a spoiler alert at the beginning of your comment...
I've just got back from my third showing, and I still feel like I still need to get more people to go seeit while still in theaters.
I totally agree 100 percent. I saw it yesterday, and Im ready to go back. Excellent review
This movie was so good. I was so surprised how well it as written for a Godzilla movie. My favorite Godzilla of all time. I highly recommend.
@chuckbuskee very well put.
Alright, you convinced me to watch the movie. I mean, I was already going to see it sometime but the way you talked about this movie and even throwing it in your Dragon Ball channel just means I'm going to see it in a couple of hours from now.
i had to and thank you! let me know how it goes!
7:00 And it sure as hell should be nominated for Best Picture Academy Award .
This is probably the best review/analysis of the film I've watched here, on YT.
Very well done!!!
Yeah this was a great breakdown
Just got out of the theater and wow. What a powerful film, I struggle to find the words.
Never thought a Godzilla film would bring tears to my eyes. This movie is a masterpiece.
To put things into perspective, -1.0 Godzilla behaved like the bloodthirsty monsters he had fought against for decades. Only no good benign monster is coming to save Japan from his wrath. It's up to the indomitable human will to survive and rise up to fight as one.
Hell yeah
I LOVE YOU FOR THIS COMMENT OMG!
This movie is so damn good it deserves a reward. 🏆
And an award.
I may have to go back for my 6th viewing. It's simply that good. I found something new each time I saw it.
This movie is just incredible. It’s in my top movies of all time.
Glad you put this video out there! The movie brought me to tears multiple times, and i am so glad i took the chance to see it at theater.
The chills I felt when the classic theme began to play was undescribable.
Excellent review of an excellent movie! I know this content isn't easy to create, so thank you for taking the time.
ha i stayed up til 5 am working on it, no lie. Toho kept claiming it.
Bro... no apologies necessary!! I have seen your previous comments video on your previous channel about 15 times now, just to feel that vibe again and again!! Your comments are just making me more and more excited!! I would have loved to see your face when making this video so I can see the look in your eyes when you're speaking!! Would you do a Q&A?
i dont want you to see me that emotional lmao
Yes, life at times is Godzilla in this film, and you think you are being punished for actions in your life, but life finds a way and life is a gift, so don't waste it
Combat Vet here as well. Sorry for your loss brother. I pray life treats you well until the end of your days.
@@Allthingsconsidered11 Thanks my man, you as well
I’m hoping it gets a nomination and possibly a win for “Best Picture”
I watched it last night with my girl it was definitely the best Godzilla movie I’ve seen she was literally crying i teared up a lil bit not gonna lie i cant believe im even saying that with a Godzilla movie
I cannot express in a few sentences how good this film is.
With all of the weaving of post war Japan and Godzilla the story is solid and man those Godzilla scenes are so good (the music is what drives it home to the next level).
A black & white version of ‘GODZILLA MINUS ONE’ has been announced.
Will release in Japanese theaters on January 12.
Honestly when the little child started crying for her mum, that really had me holding back tears. 😅
When I left the theater this last Tuesday the film has stuck with me ever since! No other film this year has done that! I felt like I had just eaten the most refreshing meal like the steak analogy you used. It deserves some Oscars! I loved it with all my heart.
I love how much love everyones been showing this movie.
You nailed it in the review!! Saw it last night and you felt the sense of hopelessness grow as the film went. Made me terrified of godzilla
It's a great time for fans of Godzilla, feels like another golden era.
Godzilla Minus One should be at least get nominated on Best International Film or Best Picture at the Oscars.
I don't think it meets diversity quota that's why openheimer is also not applicable
LMAO!
Got a 65" and a 7.1 sound system. This is a day 1 purchase the moment it comes out on Blu-ray.
🤓
same here - I couldn't find the words when I got home. I was trying to explain it to my roommate. I want to see it again, but trapped by an incoming snow storm this weekend. I could walk to the theater, but not really wanting to in the snow.
so good!
Dude i was so surprised how heavy awesome it was. So crazy good. Thanks for posting this
Never thought that I'd be okay not seeing godzilla in his own movie
I am glad i watched this in Theaters and not a pirated version online. this is one of those movies you have to see in IMAX. 10/10 is my score.
This is one of the few films where you feel lucky to have been alive while it was new and in theaters.
I was complaining about someone cutting onions at the end of the movie to my wife and kids. 😂
All you have to do is watch that film, and you can see where the amazing storytelling in Godzilla Minus One originates from.
he's so talented man!
Agreed. I love this movie. Haven't said that about many movies in a long long time
