I laughed so hard when Justin yelled “get a bucket!” and Drew grabbed that giant vase 😂
You're not a homeowner till you've had at least one screaming water emergency! Welcome!
Happened to me for the first time 2 months ago! 😅 Not a club I wanted to join but happy to be here now lol
Agreed. Mine was in the kitchen whilst husband was away. Two young children panicking (and me) just as we were leaving for school.
TRUE
Facts! Mine was when my shower knob knocked off & there was water spraying outta my wall like a fire hydrant 😂😂😂 at least it was in my shower!!!
I HAD THE WATER LINE TO THE TOILET LEAK & FLOODED MOST OF THE CONDO
2 things...maybe a drop down table to fold dry laundry on and a "hidden pullout" rod to hang clothing on that does not go in the dryer😊
Yes! I came here to suggest some kind of hanging rod or rack! They make some beautiful ones that drop down from the ceiling too, but idk if those would work with an arched ceiling... but during this past summer, I've come to love air drying rather than running a dryer 🥵
Jumping on this, look for a flat to the wall rack that tips out so you can hang laundry on it. Also, where do you plan to put the laundry basket?
think laundry. folding area? a place to hang items you don’t put in the drier?
@@donnapecoraro3126whats your point?
@@nyphirai think Donna was pretty clear. If you do laundry you know you need a place to fold and a place to hang some items. 😊
I love how Marie prioritized documenting over grabbing a bucket. Too funny 😂❤
I noticed that too, can't believe some people would rather use their camera than be concerned about potentially hundreds or thousands of dollars in water damage.
@@cmnr8487 oh no, Im sorry. I didn't mean it that way. Im pretty sure she saw that things were well under control :)
And then we didn't even get to see the footage! :D
OMG when you grabbed the vase as a bucket😂😂
LOL! Cracked me up when he did that
😂
The fact that you made the tile job look easy is a testament to what a pro you have become at tile installation. It is not that easy, takes a lot of planning, patience and methodical follow-through. Fabulous result. CONGRATS!❤❤❤
Aww thank you!!! 🤎
Showing the water emergency: A glimpse of "real life" which is one of the reasons your followers love this channel. Hope the rest of the project comes off as smoothly as that beautiful floor!
The flooring looks lovely. It’s much better packed tight rather than being grouted.
Having a beautiful laundry space is an underrated luxury. Even if you enjoy doing laundry (as I do), it makes all the difference to be in an appealing space. Glad you made this a priority. You always inspire! 🥰
My best friend likes to do laundry. What planet are you from?😊
I HATE doing laundry. What do you like about it? Do you have any advice to give that you think helps you enjoy the process? I wish I enjoyed it more.
I love doing laundry because it always brings me back to the moment, hanging laundry is kinda meditative to me. You could even make a little ceremony out of it; put your phone on silent and in another room, maybe some nice music on, maybe even light a candle or something. And then just take your time and treat every piece of clothing/fabric with care and mindfulness. I know that sounds crazy, but it's just a little 10 minutes of calming down for me.
@@lofi2836 this is actually a really great way to approach it. I will definitely be giving this a try. Thank you.
@@ericalane7220 I like doing laundry because it is like getting a whole new wardrobe. Sheets and towels make me remember the decorated room I spent so much time creating. I do a careful wash, spot removing, use a brightener an d have both liquid and dry detergent. I also air dry all shirts, anything that shrinks. It makes everything look new and everything lasts much longer. So getting everything fresh, crisp and new makes it so worthwhile.
I think I would put a removable countertop over the washer and dryer. In the event of some type of mishap, water or otherwise, you’re going to want to have a quick access to the appliances. Years ago, when my dishwasher died and needed replacement, I discovered that the original dishwasher was impossible to remove without almost removing the kitchen countertop.
What about sheet copper for countertop and or backsplash? That might be super pretty! I love the floor and the hutch ideas
Oooh, that sounds like a beautiful idea!
*Yes‼️ Using sheet copper would mimic the copper you covered the front of your dishwasher with❣️😉*
YES!
@@moniquesmeadow thanks! I hope he sees this or thinks of it himself!
Omg! I need a best friend like you. I adorn everything about you! Keep living your beautiful life to the fullest ♥️♥️♥️♥️
😂🤣OMG LOL the thumbnail for this!!! Can't wait to see what you do 🥰
I love the floor!!
I also love the existing rail, can you just paint it black?
How about butcherblock counter on top of washer/dryer?
Also, won't you need a bar for hanging items on hangers?
You're doing such a great job, Drew!
I also think the railing iin black would be cool
I also think the railing would look nice there if it were painted
I have always installed a hanging bar in my laundry rooms. It's a necessity!!
Drew, get rid of the upper cabinets! It would look soooo awesome with open shelving with that arched space! You’ll have plenty of storage with your furniture cabinet!
Masterful job on the herringbone design, complete with border. Congratulations on a job VERY WELL DONE!😊
I don't know if someone else mentioned this but i think it would be cool to make a countertop using all the 2 inch offcuts from the border on the floor. Either full pieces or break them up to do a mosaic.
The floor is beautiful!
I legit had said that in the video and edited it out because I thought it was a crazy idea...!!
@@lonefox *I think using those short cuts for the countertop would be beautiful, too - but won't the rough texture SNAG and PILL your clothes as you fold them? Unless you poured a resin sealer on top of the tiles and leveled it out flat. 😉*
@@lesliejackson8188 maybe they'd be more suitable for the backsplash, and then make the countertops something more smooth and understated
Maybe a wall clock on that wall?
The herringbone tile is everything. I can't wait to see the way you bring this room to life.
Having a dryer rack that you can pull down will so be something you would love.
Incredible isn't a big enough word to describe how fabulous the floor looks!
Hi, your floor looks fantastic. Thought you might like to know that the way you've laid the brink around the edges is called 'soldier brick'. I love it!
Loving it so far. I would totally get rid of those closed in cupboards above where the washing machine and dryer are going to be. And I would opt for to open shelves from wall to wall. Those upper cabinets are distracting with their straight edge, and the beautiful arch of the roofline. That’s just what I see from here.
Dear Drew, The laundry's floor is gorgeous. The space looks so much larger. Hugs💞
Luv how Marie is already filming as she's asking what is going on.... always on the job 🤣🤣🤣
Same herringbone tiles up on the backsplash wall, all the way up the arch and open shelving 😊
Love the floor. You really saved by doing the installation. Everything you do is so inspirational.
The herringbone is gorgeous! Thank you for leaving in the water mishap. I got a good giggle. I'm genuinely sorry it happened. But it was entertaining. 😁
WOW!!! The floor turned out fantastic! I love the no grout look on the herringbone! I would put over the cabinet lighting on the cabinets, mayne under the cabinet lighting, too, it seems really dark in that end.
Drew, I have a suggestion for the backsplash behind the washer and dryer. If you have any mable left from the kichen, it would be beautiful in the laundry room.
Every homeowner (and apartment dweller) should know how to shut off the water throughout the house. Not just the main water shutoff but how to shut off water to toilets, sinks, water heater and appliances.
When you showed the storage cabinets you were thinking of, it reminded me of a cabinet I have. We don't have much money to spend, so we bought a gun cabinet at the thrift store for $20. I took out the gun display parts and installed shelves to make it a book cabinet. I painted it dark green with spray paint, believe it or not, and after painting I sanded it to the wood in key spots and rubbed the whole thing down with paste wax. The wax dries to a beautiful finish and adds dimension to the color--you'd never guess I'd used spray paint. It has glass doors, which right now I've covered from the inside by taping some (thrifted) wallpaper in the frame, but I can easily remove that if I want to display things.
Drew, you cracked me up with your high pitched voice when the water faucet broke. You put a big smile on my face, just love you Drew and your friends. You guys make my week!!! Love Lydia❤
I'm not sure if anyone else suggested it, but with that narrow space in front of the laundry machines, I can visualize dark beams running horizontal that would tie into the other areas of the house.... I love the hand-laid floor! Whatever you do, will be beautiful!
while you're at it, put a shut off valve there for the water. so many flood accidents happen around washers - when you're gone for a few days, always shut off the water to the washer. what could be useful and you could do it beautifully, is a "counter" along that big wall, perpendicular to the washer/dryer - but one that can lie flat against the wall when not in use, and when needed, can fold out to use for folding or perhaps additional space when you need to "line" dry fabrics. It could also serve as another space to use when entertaining. I can't wait to see the progression. Also, because it's a small laundry area, I'd install a brass "pull down" clothes bar that can be used when you're putting your clothes on hangers or that need to dry on a hanger - do it up high above that pull down "counter" I mention above. Again, it could be used to dry flowers, garlic, etc. Always looking forward to your vlogs. Hugs!
Drew, We put shelves in the closet side of a small antique chifforobe and use it to store toiletries, towels, medicines et al. The other side is all drawers. We store batteries, placemats et al there. It is very well organized and easy to use.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the floor!!! Can’t wait to see it all done!!!🥰
The floor is just beautiful. It's done so well, it looks as if it has always been there. And you did it so easily! I thought it would be so much more work.
love!! it would be so cool to utilize the arch in the celling above the cabinets to mirror the arches throughout the spaces.. maybe bringing the cabinets up to the ceiling and arching them or something like that!
Oh - I love it and I missed you! Big Improvement. Can't wait for part 2!
Looking great! One idea... remove cabinet above washer/dryer and replace with open shelving. The current cabinet interferes with the curve of the wall/ceiling. Love the tile :)
Drew, you are my hero! DIY tile replacement is something I'm dreading, but you remind me that it's doable.
I just saw a designer cover up the electrical box with a picture. They put the wire on the back and ALSO put A MAGNET on the wire! NO nails stuck to the metal electrical box. Easy access to the electrical box and looked very nice. Depending on how heavy the picture/frame is, you may need several magnets or a heavy one. I can't see it being a problem with electricity but make sure and ask an electrician or UA-cam. GOOD LUCK LOOKS NICE
Drew, that tile is perfection. Think about painting that old railing a rich, deep hammered bronze.
Drew you are incredible in everything you design. You always have some great ideas that come together perfection
What ever you chose it will be PERFECT ! So far it looks great, love all your choices.
So gorgeous!! I’m obsessed with how your vision for the tile came to life, only thing for the square tiles under the washer - even though they’re touching I think they will still need grout to fill in any organic tiny gaps so that it can actually be waterproof incase of washer leaks!
I hope you’ve kept a couple of those kitchen tiles just in case you need to repair any that get damaged in the kitchen. I’d have kept the door on for the noise from a washer and drier. Actually I’d have put them in the downstairs laundry room and kept that room as a big walk in pantry / storage area for food, appliance storage and for cleaning supplies etc. Why do you need two laundry rooms?
That floor is fabulous. I love the tile and the herringbone pattern. The border frames it so well.
I think a butcher block counter would be great (our local Habitat store has new slabs of walnut ones!) That would be cool..your tile job on the floor is gorgeous, you are doing a professional job on everything you touch!!
My thoughts exactly!!
Your floor is stunning! This is going to be a very sophisticated laundry room.
I think a lime type of wash on the walls would look beautiful 😍 well done on the floor it’s beautiful x
Love the artistry on the first cabinet you showed
Love the tile & you guys did an amazing job. Like your idea for a vintage storage cabinet where the door used to be. I have no doubt the finished project will look stunning.
You should be proud, what you've accomplished so far in this house requires real skill..technique..and talent.
That art deco railing is gorgeous. You’re right, it would look better in another color.
Holy Moly!!!!! That sounded so crazy! I love how Justin was OVERLY chill about the whole situation!!!!😂😂😂😂😂
That herringbone was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!! I hope you end up painting the cabinets the same color as the kitchen cabinets!
Loving the direction the room is going. It’s going to be beautiful, and yes, the tile pushed together is definitely the best!
The laundry room floor looks amazing!!!
I love the idea of the standing piece of furniture for storage. What a perfect place for paper towels, toilet paper, towels, wash clause perfect!
The floor looks amazing. I’m always so impressed by how well your first-time projects turn out. A testament to your talent.
Love the floor! My two suggestions are, If you use lower cabinets I would bring the depth flush with the wall and have a stone countertop for extra space to fold clothes. You could add floating shelves above. I would consider adding a rod for hanging clothes either below the floating shelves or to the bare wall by the laundry units with a floating shelf above it. You could also DIY a tall built in cabinet that is less deep on the top half with the bottom half extended out to be flush with the wall and add a narrow countertop. Not sure if you have any stone left from the kitchen? Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Loved the “real” part of home ownership and repair adventures that truly happens. Thanks for keeping it real for all of us! The blooper was great! Congratulations on making it through the first part and ready to see the reveal :)
The rail painted black would look cool- it looks art deco/craftsman style
💕The walls either side of the washing machine & dryer would look nice in apple white or a light green to compliment the green painted cupboards💕From the kitchen your eye would be drawn towards the cupboard instead of the wall colour💕
I’m here for the whole thing ! Love it when you update your areas ….
I absolutely love the herringbone pattern Drew, it’s beautiful. You are an amazing designer. 💕💕💕❤️
You really have the golden touch everything you do is fantastic
This floor… OMG!!!!!!!! This is gorgeous, gorgeous!!!
I am so happy you decided to do a traditional herringbone with no grout lines! It looks amazing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Nice start! You should someplace to hang clothes you can't throw in the dryer or as you iron them. I'm sure you can find something cute that will fold against the wall when not in use. Just make sure that it doesn't interfere with the ironing board. Next to the railing, I'd put a folding table that you can use for decor, but open up if you need more space for folding clothes, or to hold overflow food or drinks if you have a big party upstairs.
Drew, you and Justin did a great job on the floor, I love it! I think a cabinet for storage will be a good idea for that wall. I can't wait to see what you make or buy for that space. The house is really beautiful Drew. Thanks for sharing!❤
I love the floor! I would love to see some shelves a similar colour to the floors instead of the cupboard. I think that it would help show those stunning curves at the top of the walls more and give a more natural organic feel to the space
Love the floor looks fabulous. A drop table would be great, also a bar for hanging.
For the wall area opposite the electrical box and next to the ironing board door, you could hang a vintage clothing rack that stays flat and then pulls out to provide a rod to hang clothes that need to air-dry.
Been there , done that, have the immensely mucky T-Shirt. Welcome to the Homeowners Club! 💕
Great job on the flooring. Drew and Justin make a great team.
I know that closed cabinetry for storing laundry products, etc. is nice to have over the washer/dryer, BUT, I feel that existing cabinet detracts from the nice curved wall at the ceiling…and think it would look really good to instead have open shelves made from thick rustic wood? Or, incorporate the curved ceiling into the cabinet somehow. Love your idea of a painted cabinet for the area where the bathroom door was. Travertine floor is fabulous. Great job.
I think a beautiful textile to enclose the space would be so good! I’ve seen a few people on home& garden uk tours use them to divide spaces ❤❤
Herringbone pattern on the floor was a BRILLIANT CHOICE! It’s so classic, elegant and hardly anyone takes the time to do it. You’re an artist and a master craftsman Drew!
You could have some floating shelves to put folded laundry on, and some hooks for brooms.
You could also if you want pull the washer and dryer forward and make the countertop deeper for more folding space.😊
The ancient washer and dryers work so much better and last forever
Hey Drew! The cupboard is screaming for some type of fascia with crown moulding so they go all the way to the ceiling. It a very dark space. Or greenery with dimmable LED lights. I hope the water did not damage anything below!
On the wall near the washer and dryer I would put a pottery barn fold out dryer rack. They look nice and are handy for air drying clothes.
Can’t wait for the vintage drop!
Drew., get some Teflon furniture movers to put under the corners of the furniture you want to slide. It makes it easier, plus it saves floors from being scratched.
Definitely a large enough counter to fold clothes plus a bar for hanging clothes to dry that don’t go in the dryer. I like having space for my empty laundry basket/hamper while waiting for the clean clothes to finish, especially if doing several loads (bottom of your storage cabinet)? Love the tile pattern. You might think about stacking your washer/dryer and taking the upper cabinets out to give you more accessible storage. 😊
These are the same suggestions I was going to write! More counter space for empty basket and folding!!!!!
Your scream when the water came out of the pipe was the best :)
I’m obsessed with the flooring
So glad you are keeping the old ironing board. Such a feature. Must say, though, I was so concerned that someone was going to step off the edge (where the railing was removed) when you were all running around screaming because of the water. Happy this didn't happen. Loving the laundry so far.
❤❤❤ the flooring!! 😊 I’m excited to see what kind of cupboard you will add to your wall for storage. Unique pieces add such much fun and shows off your style!😊
Hi Drew, love, love love your channel, the laundry room makeover will be beautiful I'm sure... you are the best not a bunch of chatter like some other channels about past projects we have already seen or heard, about. You remain just straight to the point and always fabulous😊
My partner works in the stone industry in Italy. He lays stone of all kinds-granite, marble, etc.-and polishes it. (In Italy, they don’t work with already-polished stone.) Grout isn’t part of Italian stone work. The point is that they lay the slabs or tiles so closely together that they don’t use grout. They think grouting is a sign of sloppy work. So, I really like the fact that you didn’t use grout on the herringbone tiles. But why did you use it on the border tiles? I think it detracts from the beauty of the stone.
I really hate grout also. I think it looks terrible and I've always thought there was something wrong with grout and I wondered why we have to use it. Now that I know it's possible not to use it and it's OK I feel so much better! The world is opening up for me and my design choices. Thank you
I would put another slab of countertop and cabinets in the cutout of that room where you wanted the hutch for more storage and tabletop laundry folding. and then open shelving or something so when you walk into the laundry room, it's nice to walk into.
Your floor is an archiectural art piece! Your combination of skill sets and creativity are so impressive . It’s exciting to anticipate the finished masterpiece of your laundry room. Thank you so much for sharing your journey of recreating this wonderful home.
To answer your question a to what we would possible do, and I have no idea how you could work it in, but some sort of mirror would certainly open up the look of the space.
Hey Lone Fox, saw that this was posted 43 minutes ago, but I saw this video 2 days ago. Looking forward to seeing the complete laundry makeover.
The opening scene had me rolling around on the floor laughing. Drew’s reaction was too cute!!!
Bravo 👏 👏 👏 . I am in love with this tile. The vision for the furniture piece is perfect. A tolle inspired unit.I bought a hand carved Dutch coffee table, I thought of you when I found it.
Oh my gosh! I did the same thing years ago. The pipe broke as I was leaning over it, and ice cold well water came shooting up in my face. , and yes I was screaming and freaking out! 💯
The wall opposite of the electric panel I would put some floating shelves to put plants on for greenery and a fresh feel.
Obsessed with the floor design!!! Go bold and not safe with the laundry room wall color!!! Please!!😃
Greetings from Perth. Love watching how you renovate. Eclectic and beautiful. The idea of an amoire is fantastic for storage. Also could incorporate a big laundry basket . The idea of a folksy amoire looks amazing to add some colour to that area. Even with a rich tone rug will definitely add vibrancy to that small area
I cant wait to see the finished laundry i am sure it will be as amazing as you!
Love your idea of adding in the furniture piece. That will be beautiful! It all looks so great Drew!
