  • In this vid I get the "map DVD read error" resolved and finalize the install of the sat nav unit in my Saab 9-3. Nav radio parts were taken from a 2008 Saturn Vue. This same process can be done on various other GM nav units from this era. Like/subscribe and comment down below.
    If you cannot find another similar GM radio to swap components with, you should be able to use this disk drive instead (not affiliated): m.aliexpress.com/item/3277548...

    Excellent video. I ordered an M5 DVD driver and used this to replace it. Popped DVD in and my Nav is working. Thank you.

    Big help seeing where to unlock the face manually, I tried opening it by hooking up a battery so I could eject the face, even though the option was there in the menu, it was not clickable.

    Nice video, looking at part 1, I did an upgrade on my 2005 saab 93 fiber optics from ICM 1 to ICM 3, including the dvd player, position unit, amp 2 and amp 1, everything works sound wise, but tech 2 will not allow me to add the dvd player and the position unit, could this be because there's no wheel sensor connected from the EHU to the fuse box? Please can you draw more attention to my issue if you can. The bus recognises all equipment i have physically installed. I'm based in the UK and there are 2 versions of the position unit, one with phone function and the other without. I'm using the one without the phone (sim card) module as i have an aftermarket Bluetooth connection in my car.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Reg.

    Do you know if the white ribbon connector is compatible with the brown one in the Saturn unit? the connector that goes to the bottom board. The one on the Saab one I have looks a little damaged and causes the device to reboot or get stuck..

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  4 роки тому

      Are you referring to the ribbon cable itself or the connector? I believe the ribbon cables are interchangeable but the connectors are fixed to the electrical board and not exactly removable.

    Where did you find the Saturn vue control board, and did you have to buy the whole nav unit for it? Also, what year Saturn? I have watched this video before and plan on purchasing a Saab nav unit probably 2008 or newer. I do own a Tech2 so I'm all set with anything! Love your videos!;)

      Thanks for watching! I ended up picking up a complete used OEM Saturn SatNav unit for cheap off ebay. Check facebook marketplsce as well. I think mine was from a 2009 Saturn Vue. GM used the same radio in multiple platforms from the 2007+ years. I would avoid the Cadillac (SRX?) version due to different face plate and the truck (Silverado/Tahoe,etc) variants bc they use SD cards instead of a map disc drive unit. That Saturn and Buick radios seem to be the closest to the Saabs. Hope that helps!

    Great tutorials but could be nice if You invest on some kind of external mic just for voice recording. Any way good job mate.

    Got one of these 9-3s from my Dad, with about 16k miles from 2008. Obviously your unit is US spec but it looks identical to mine (sans XM radio). I have the same problem, DVD won't load map discs and there are some franken disks available from the internet. One question, does yours have bluetooth that works with music or is it for calls only like mine? I have similar buttons on the left of the driver cupholder below the navi radio..

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  Рік тому +1

      If factory optioned, the bluetooth on the 9-3's are only for phone calls and are not capable of music streaming.

      Was the signal working fine before the install? I wonder if a cable on the back of the radio isn't fully seated.

    does the radio work normally or does it just do the error and stop working when you go to maps?

    Have you been able to get an update cd for your navigation system

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  5 років тому +1

      Yes. I'm now using a more common GM map disk instead of the Saab disk. Video on how to make the GM disk work in a Saab will be posted later today.

      Could you buy a off the shelf disc drive to replace the original one?

  • @tonyq4358
    @tonyq4358 4 роки тому

    I picked up a unit off craigslist. Installed it and I get a weird whirring noise and the disc read error. It refuses to eject. I got the disk to pop out slightly but couldn't pull it out. I checked out the aliexpress link and found the same head unit on eBay. The aliexpress link was cheaper although it will take ages to arrive. My worry is, do you have a source on if that CD drive will work? I have my unit disassembled and I'm at a crossroad on whether or not I should spend $130 on a saturn unit or $30 on a unit from China. Would the result be the same?
    EDIT: I verified the part numbers are the same when compared to what's on the unit and what's on aliexpress. Since you have to use the existing PCB, I imagine it should work. I'll have to wait until it arrives.

    Im thinking that the saturn head unit with it's theft protection enable is the issue. I'm wondering if you are right... take a new saturn vue gps unit that hasn't been married yet, and install it with tech2. New saturn units are still available... I have one arriving soon...I'll post the results here if it works.
