We Made This Thing Unstoppable!

- After a nasty suspension failure on my LX470 left us dragging on the ground, I had to tear out the original stock system and completely overhaul everything. It's 100% better than ever. Every 250k mile bushing, arm, spring and shock were thrown at the ground in favor of all new OME and Dorman parts. We did a 2 inch lift on the car, a front diff drop, and suspension refresh as well. It's ready for another half a million miles, and we took it out and had some fun on the street and dirt to make sure! Check it out.

Great to see some 100 series content. Add some extended diff breathers if you're planning on more lake stuff. If they're still the short ones, change the diff fluid.
"The Old Man Emu brand has its roots firmly planted in off road racing and draws its name from the emu's ability to maintain great stability when moving over uneven terrain at high speeds."
Ahhh, That makes sense, actually!
BUT... to your point OME is a popular product for LC, Lexus and Sequoia. It is certainly NOT an off road racing company lololol. SMH UA-cam is sooooooooooo HOT!!! Almost as big of cesspool as Facebook. Almost. Not quite though.
Australian company
@@StayTunedTA It's normal in Australia..
Want an aerosol can of ether here, go to your local and pick up a can of "start yah bastard"..
@@MexicoPescadoro OME was a major off road racing team for many years. My uncle was a driver for them in Sydney.
Have dirtheads Dave and Fred come over to help you with offroad stuff!
The new graphics are alot better. Your videos are getting better and better 💪
Thanks! Appreciate it.
Continuing to get better and better with the production. Really like that you guys are keeping the more natural approach to the content; IMO, makes it feel that much more authentic.
Sound is great, and its really nice to see more of the other contributors in the mix. Also diggin the use of the clips, and the fact you don't overuse them.
Have to admit that I'm not much of an SUV guy, but your approach to the refit keeps it engaging and interesting enough to me that I watched the entire video and learned quite a bit. Plus, I still can appreciate all the tine and effort put into it.
Keep up the good work folks, and I look forward to the next one. Hope you and the fam get to enjoy it for a long time to come.
Totally agree the production value has certainly gone up a notch or two... The potential of an awesome channel was always there, glad to see it is being realised just by having a more neutral approach to the video production (I don't miss all that loud Rock music).. Keep up the good work!
Ditching that old hydraulic suspension set up and going to a traditional type set up is one of the best things that you can do. Keep up the great work Tony 👍🏻
Great improvement using OME stuff. My uncle was a racer for ome in the 70s. They won everything.
Deleted is the word for all of those removals/improvements. Carry on! Great show.
Have a 2000 LC 100 series and love these things. It's like wheeling a big leather couch and love the rear AC for the kids and pups.
I have had and had many vehicles but I've had and have more Toyotas than any other.
Still have the 76 Celica, and the 80 Hilux long bed 4x4.
Gears are the great equalizer for horsepower.
My 79 toy Street truck was making somewhere in the neighborhood of 140 HP after head work.
And even though it could break loose the M- 50 -15's . When I change the 4:11 rear end to 4:56 and a posi those tires spun at will.
I'm old school but 80 4x4 sits on a 7-in soft ride S. J. 38 1/2 x 15x15 fun countries Norseman style tread.
5:29 lockers and a Marlin crawler.
If you’re not hearing the the hum or popping from the cv axles, re boot them. Extend the rear axle breather , and maybe extended rear brake lines if you do heavy articulations.
I feel like a quick session under a vehicle with a jet wash is always a good thing when they’re in this state.
You can get specific angled heads for jet wash lances that will help you do an undercarriage, but I’ve found the rotating patio attachments are great when turned upside down.
With CVs, when you lift the angle can make some of the fins on the CV boot touch. They will eventually wear and sling fun everywhere. You can reboot and stretch them out a bit.
When we bought our trd off-road 4 runner only option it didn’t have was the hydraulic ride stuff. I was disappointed until a week later friend at work said it cost 2000$ to fix his just after warranty ran out. Then I was happy I didn’t have it. Great upgrade to yours.
These toyota 4x4 are beasts , watching this has reignited my plans to lift my Tundra, Thanks Tony!
Rad dude 🤘, hope you're kiddos and the wifiepoo like the ride now!!
Your channel just gets better. Steady camera work keeps me from getting dizzy. DED has a two part series on a 4 Runner and how it was regeared and used Front Independant Suspension as well. Thanks for the new video, and content. Hello from NC!!
Love this build! I am a family man as well and it’s hard to have fun with the kid hauler but u did it!
Long time fan. Great content Tony! Keep up the good work.
Ive got the same lx470 down to the color. It's a great truck Most people get their current steering wheel leather recovered. You should also look into L-seat replacement leather for the seats if yours are bad. TJM makes a really inexpensive front bumper, also sold by Slee.
The original suspension on your L was mind boggling.
Yeah, it was HAMMERED. I can't believe it was still working when I got it.
@@StayTunedTA When you were saying the fluid smelled, (during disassembly) - I was saying to myself, that is the “too-much” video capper. (Better once that nasty job was completed).
Production value keeps going up! Loving these videos Tony
I use my mall crawler to become a Weekend Warrior love the content Tony!!!
Tony,
Just wanted to give you a heads up about the alignment bolts. I would recommend trying to find factory Toyota ones if you get a chance. The style that you get from like an auto parts store with the D shaped holes and bolt tend to round out when you go to get it aligned after a while. The previous owner of my first gen Tundra put a set of them in right before I bought it and before I had it a year I needed to replace them because it got knocked out of alignment (could literally feel the alignment change while driving) and the holes were rounded when I went to get it fixed. Needless to say there was some tack wielding the washers to the bolts and the frame to the washers till I was able to find a set of used factory ones to put back in it.
Lexus looks badass sittin that low tho! Ha ha. Also, as a public school kid, thank you for showing your work. Teachers would be proud
Good getting around in the snow rig!
Anyone else catch the new HRG?? Anyone else think it was just awful?!?
Glad you're having success with the YT channel, Tony! Love the content. The editing is getting a ton better.
Even at the Toyota dealer level we pitch all that old hydro-assisted suspension in the garbage. Mostly due to cost of repair when given to the customer.
Very nice, great job!!! I'm sure it made a huge difference in the off road abilities! You could always regear it and or ad a different dbler transfer case so it can reallt crawl and not struggle as much! My brother had a 4 runner crawler and I think it had an atlas case in it, could about climb anything! Rock on 🤘 Tony!!!!
You can buy reduction gearsets for these transfer cases. So a doubler isn’t as needed
@@brentsavage6005 Even easier then and probably cheaper 2!! Great solution!
Loving this content! I’m surprised you didn’t get gifted some UCA’s from OME. This is great advertising. I’d love to see a few mild performance upgrades along with the bumpers and such.
Essentially…….. a great video once again Tony!!!!
These trucks are kick ass, im looking for one currently and boy do they hold value!! Cheers Tony!
Man that's awesome. Like to take a trip out and hangout with ya someday. Be a nice road trip for the 1320 when it comes in.
An Emu is a large flightless bird native to Australia (about the same size as an ostrich). The shocks were developed in outback Australia.
That’s crazy that outback steakhouse in Australia is making suspension and emu burgers at the same time
The Old Man Emu brand has its roots firmly planted in off road racing and draws its name from the emu's ability to maintain great stability when moving over uneven terrain at high speeds.
Great conversion Tony.
Have you considered fitting an adjustable panhard rod to re-centre the diff after the suspension lift?
I think Tony just like to tease us with the shots of the covered Firebird in the background 🤔
Love the shirt, hilarious! My fingers are still on fire from entering in my credit card info a little too fast!
Love the upgrades - New name suggestion with the suspension upgrade - Old Man Lex?
Cool video. Keep them coming!
Thanks! Will do!
Pro Charger next? They work really well after 250,000 miles!
Hahahaha, yeah I bet the rings are all loosened up and ready for boost. I did see a cheap turbo ebay kit and considered it, it's a slug with the 33s on it.
Dude!!! That is my favorite scene from "The Martian"
You can definitely tell Tony got used to doing a TV show, with the news parts showoff table lol.
The diff drop kit for my 2000 4Runner was less than $40.00 from JEGS. It was 2 bolts and 2 spacers.
Content has been awesome man . All the way from new Zealand
Thanks man! I think our suspension came from nearby on this one! WTF is an EMU?
Lol it's a big nasty bird from our special cousins in Australia
$50 for the diff drop. AND check out NAPA. They have the extended length GIRTHY shaft CVS with the high angle boot already on them. $250/axle....
I love listening to the "Tony" stream of conciousness talk while working. lol
tony you're not the only one. I have to remind myself I'm in a 99 buick lesabre not my 4th gen firebird haha.
Rumor has it that the Eaton supercharger used on the Ford Lightening bolts on that Lexus/Toyota motor to make more power
Gonna miss you man on the show. Hot Rod Garage doesn't have a Rusty Lex lol
that intro song is sick. i think i may have heard it on a colin furze video years ago but its great. could have guessed tony has good taste.
Tony run em hard!! You need a LS400 or LS430 spray NOS lol
the edits get me every time 😆
Ya need to drop in a LS to solve the low end grunt issue😁. Thanks for sharing your life's adventures,!!?
Tony love the what your doing to the Rusty Lex
I think you have have done the right think but you need new seal dif for that axle
That 4.7 should be able to be tuned like crazy.
Love this content bro
I literally was doing this on my LX 2 weeks ago. Those rears shocks are a PIA.
my OEM ones were seized on there really bad. I had to cut them off of the eye bolt.
Really enjoyed your recent 2004 Willow Springs Mustang. Read eMail for how much I liked. Thanks and keep up the well planned and well executed builds. Really great stuff!!
I'm so glad you bought OME stuff, I told you in the video you wheeled this in to check out OME and you 100% bought the best for this thing, you're going to love it but the only thing I'll say is you should have bought SPC upper control arms, you might run into caster/camber issues in the future especially with a 3 inch lift.
Tony's drinking game word of the week is?
Essentially....... Drink!
“Let’s get started.” Drink every time he says it. 😀
Thoughts on off-roading with the wife and kids? I want to get them into motorsports but not looking to bolt carseats into the track car yet. And something big enough to fit 3 car seats wide.
September 17th you should head up to Rausch creek and check out the competition crawling
Sup Tony? Get those Pontiac parts in, I need to see the street freak on the road!
The Lakewood bellhousing shipped TODAY! one of the last big pieces of the puzzle!
@@StayTunedTA My man! Now we're talking. I need to find a way to get you a picture of my street freak Camaro. Mostly yellow, with three shades of blue, orange and and hot pink. Ya it is! Kept if in storage from 1988-2021, it's back now.
Don't feel too bad. Seems like the AHC gives out on every single one of these at some point.
How about the FLEXus since it has all new suspension components?
Such a cool truck!!!
I find myself driving it ALL the time.
Lucky is the man!
Old man emu has the best springs ive ever used. Wouldnt buy anything else!
And chance of being able to regear it for those 33’s?
Is a re-gear in the future? Seems like that transmission really was wanting to hunt, even just during the road test. I think that would drive me crazy after about an hour.
Nooooo!!! Number 1 rule of off-road is NO SWAY BAR!! Flex is your friend!! 🙌🏻💪🏻 And I don't see any rust. 🤔 Come wrench with me in VT and I'll show you rust that'll give you nightmares!! 😳💀🤣🤣🤣
Yes
First! Wait, that's your line.
@@StayTunedTA First!!!
The cut always get me
Maybe Old Man Emu is a take on OEM parts...OME instead of OEM. They are an Australian company owned by ARB, and they have Emus there.
Old Man Emu was named after a song, and Emu is pronounced ee-mew not E-moo.
Great episode.
He got it right about I
80% of the time

Just curious why you didn't just delete the torsion bars and do coil overs in the front?
15:59 🤣 I done the math……it checks out
Hey Tony, have you considered giving your Lexus LX470 daily driver some boost? It has the same 4.7L i-Force as my '06 Tundra & I've been wondering if a Turbo or Supercharger would make more power in this engine.
I have been thinking about it, but the superchargers are really hard to find. TRD made a setup for a short while and they worked pretty well.
@@StayTunedTA
BTW are you planning to meet up with the MTOD boys for public events like Ductape drags? You're the last one I haven't met. 😢
i think i have seen some 2uz-fe superchargers, altough i don't know if the proper fix would be to regear the axles for the bigger tires
Yup, but they won't work on 2005+ because those are variable valve timing engines and the factory computer can't handle the additional air. Probably would work on this rig though!
You should call it Lexington Wheel!
Weird. I'm running a 2010 Tacoma with probably close to 3" in the front, no drop stuff, 35's and no problems either. I'm surprised yours complained with just 1.5" Probably should have grabbed a couple new axles or cv's.
21:43 Just that easy! :D
rusty lex is pretty fitting for a name ,you are going to beat the ass out of it 🤣
What caster degrees do you like?
No check engine light with the removal of the self leveling suspension?
Tony, what do you think the best rust encapsulating paint is? I've tried a few with less than stellar results.
Old Man Emu is a cool name regardless.
Is that a vintage VW/Audi Snowflake wheel leaned against the wall?
Do you get a bunch of dash lights or errors with removing the hydraulic suspension stuff?
Oh, c'mon man!! Long Travel!! Only around $8 - 10k, 2.5" bypass, adjustable shocks, +2, 3 arms. Great for mall crawling! Lol!
Haha, maybe when i retire it from hauling babies around.
Digging the channel T
Thanks! We are having a blast over here.
Someone should make a drinking game with how many times Tony says essentially.
The Bland Cruiser.
Laxus is right, that thing is squatting lol
I used to work with a gal named Lexus, she was definitely curvy. Young lady, and very nice. She drove a base model Mercedes. 230
So when are you swapping in the 12 cylinder 1gz Nissan engine ?
m.ua-cam.com/video/3_Q4RJAYiw4/v-deo.html
i feel like i am all about getting a 100 series, even a 250k car.
