First Burnouts in 17 Years!! (ABANDONED PROJECT REVIVAL!)

- This 1970 Cutlass hasn't been on the road since 2005. I don't know much about it besides it was a long term project, the owner passed away, and at some point it was torn apart for a paint job and never put back together. It's a basic Olds 350 V8 with an 80's 2004R behind it, and it's pretty mild but we've gotten it running pretty well. Last registration sticker was in 2005. We spent the week just putting parts back on, redoing frozen brakes, getting it running better and driving and then took it out for the first drive in 17 plus years! This thing is AWESOME! We worked super hard to get the Audio issues dialed and get good shots, and this one turned out killer!

Quality video Tony! You’re a machine, keep up the great work.
Thanks! We are having so much fun in the shop these days!
@@StayTunedTA what’s up with the 200r and the shifter? Is it just a stock shifter with 3 speeds so there’s no way to engage first? I don’t think you went past 3500 rpm lol
@@theeoddments960 So shiftworks makes a 4 speed insert that goes into the stock console, I'll grab it soon.
@@StayTunedTA do everything in your power to keep the red hawg tag for the love of god
Seriously? People complain about the production quality of something that costs them nothing? Tony clearly puts a lot of time and effort into running his UA-cam channel.
Hey if people are already mad I'll add some light constructive criticism, If tony can teach his bros about camera presence and the 4th wall im sure they'd appreciate it and it would make these videos look 10x cleaner. Not saying a youtube vid needs the production quality of a motor trend show, but its clear tony sees the camera and they p much dont
Not all constructive criticism is complaining. That's also free.
@@DC_ABC_123
dude, people complain about FREE PORN.. UA-cam videos dont stand a chance. Everyones a critic. Only a few of us actually try to make stuff. . .
More humor the better
Nothing like the fear and excitement of that first test drive..." Did you hear that?, Did you feel that?" Wondering if you put it back together correctly. All so worth it to get one back on the road. Nice job!
HA! Yes, it's like you are trying to hear and feel everything, all while looking at the temp gauge once every 2 seconds.
Don’t forget the frightening new smells.
THIS is the sort of content YT needs more of!
Great channel, Tony!
Can’t wait to see some guest appearances!
Working on it! Thanks for watching. Some familiar faces out soon!
@@StayTunedTA I hope than includes Lucky and Mike Finnegan.
You should meet up with Matt at Diesel Creek. He's in western Pennsylvania. Different machines, but same approach.
Im really happy more and more of you guys are coming over/back to youtube, since us Euros can't watch MT any more. The lower budgets makes it better, more genuine and pure, too, I feel like. More punkrock than big label backstreet boys. Keep it up homie!
Glad to be back! Thanks for watching. We spent prob under 500 bucks on this ep, and it was a blast.
What is MT?
@@marcusmobley7519 Motor Trend TV
Motor Trend failed to recognize that UA-cam has so much content that is essentially the same or better in many cases.
So they said to themselves. "Let's make folks pay for our content." I baled immediately.
I 100% agree. I'm down in New Zealand and can't watch MT anymore. Plenty of awesome channels on UA-cam to keep me happy though.
My guy is putting some serious work in. This channel is about to skyrocket 🚀
Hey Tony, thanks for not "Road Killing" the Red Hawg Olds. Thanks for actually caring about the car and not just hurriedly slapping it together and immediately absolutely beating the shit out of it. I'm really diggin' the car, buddy! It deserves the respect you're giving it👍👍👍
Yeah man, I really like this thing, and don't want to just trash it! Plus it was the PO's like long term project and I would feel weird treating it like a throwaway car.
You're doing great, Tony and crew...there's always growing pains starting something from scratch, plus you have to see what works and what doesn't. The fact that you guys are trying so hard to provide quality content speaks volumes.
Redhawg is very cool, and I'm sure extremely satisfying to "complete" more (they're never truly complete...). I know with my own projects (art and guitar related ones, in my case), having that nagging feeling of incomplete things can be aggravating and annoying to say the least.
Keep up the awesome job!
Thanks so much! Appreciate the support. We are definitely on a learning curve but having a ton of fun on the way.
Had a 1971 cutlass with a 455 out of a wagon in high school in 1982. Wow, what a throw back for me! Thanks Tony
-Huge burnout-......."Yeah, let's get the F outta here" I was dying!
Atta boy Tony Atta Boy! Good to see this thing back having fun and making the world smile again!
I think this episode takes no .1 for best one liners. Love it.
My first car was a 1970 Chevelle Malibu. This makes a sick old man smile. I love what you guys do. Thank you , Tony….
Man, I do not miss working on drum brakes. At least I've never owned a car with more than two, I can't imagine what a bummer it is finishing one and having THREE more to do :(
I am so glad you are doing an Olds on the show. We don't get much love. Thanks guys. PUT THE RIGHT BACK BUMPER ON IT!!!! LOL
I just found a cheap 70 that needs chrome, I'll grab it this week.
Hey Tony, you know you can use do a disc brake conversion using all stock parts cheap. I'm a old timer and I've done many of them over the years. 70 was a crossover year where some had drums and some had disc. The spindle is the same on both.Just get the stock caliper brackets off a cutlass ,lemans ,regal or monte from the junk yard . the rest right from the parts store.
Spindle is different with discs.
By the time you hunt down the proper spindles, buy new rotors, calipers, pads, bearings, seals you aren't really budget anymore. I've done it both ways and just going aftermarket like wilwood etc you get a much better product and the cost difference isn't much at all.
@@SlowCobra everything except the spindle is available at the local parts store at a reasonable price.
You CAN’T beat a finely adjusted set of drum brakes. Just not repeatedly. Well. Or in the rain. Better than none.
My 69 cutlass had 4 wheel manual drums when I first bought it 35 years ago. Properly cleaned and adjusted, they stopped well. The problem was the car always seemed slightly unpredictable, sometimes the brakes would slightly pull to the left, others drift to the right. It’s not like the car would change lanes under braking, it just felt strange. The front end was tight, no floppy steering components.
I did a disc brake conversion using a vista cruiser as my parts vehicle. I also got rid of the puny 14 tires at the same time. The brake pull was gone after that. I always wondered if the problem was the drum brakes,or the old tires.
I feel like I'm hangin out with you guys in the garage, sitn on my stool drinkin a beer.
This car is beautiful, glad to see it ripn up the streets in my home state!
That's the idea, just buddies in the shop spinning wrenches and cracking dumb jokes, and having a blast doing it.
This is real hot rodding, not those overly sponsored YT builds, I love it. Use what you what you got or can find for cheap on the internet.
Yeah, that's the idea here, at least for now, just get it rolling down the road.
Great video! Personally more of a fan of the longer more in depth stuff like this. I like how you show us what you are up to vs. the cut to commercial "while we were gone we threw in all new brakes" style of videos! Maybe it's not for everyone but it's a great way to learn from someone who knows what they are doing
I’m definitely a fan of the longer videos like this… keep them coming. Also the builds are so good
Thanks! Will do!
Awesome content man. Have driven 18k miles over 4 power tours on 4 wheel drums lol also rebuilt the rear wheel cylinder under a tornado warning on power tour in 2008 🤣
That is awesome! Thanks!
That was a great view of a closed course test facility in Mexico! 😀
Cool car, I had a '71 that I beat on for 12 years. Same 350 rocket motor, 4 drum brakes. I was growing up in the 70's, so I enjoy this content!
Cant stop picturing that car with a moderately narrowed rear end. An aluminum lung hangin out the hood and blacked out trim. Thats a fantastic red
Easy bro, this is a family channel!
It’s sounds good Tony. Thanks for doin this been watchin you since the show with Lucky Costa. Only thing I would say is get your guys in there more they seem cam’ra shy. Thanks for the cool shows!
Of course, they will get there, it took me a little while, I'm sure it will happen!
Love the part where you are cruising and smiling with your friends! Would love to see more segments like that in future vids. Keep up the good work!
I got no complaints on my end on the sound quality. Love the channel.
Thanks! I think we got this one dialed pretty good.
Tony... next time you assemble shoes put half together on the bench then stretch the shoe pack onto the backing plate! Doing this allows for the adjuster and the lower spring to be assembled while not under pressure. lay the set up on the backing plate and add the hold down pins, then all that's left to assemble is the 2 upper springs and the equalizer lever.
Ok, people read self-help books for therapy and such all the time. this is absolutely self-help therapy for gear heads! reminds me of stuff I did(and still do) with my car loving friends. That Olds 350 is a pretty good engine - got a buddy building one down in Texas for a 68 ragtop: if it was a low compression engine the pistons will have a ~20cc dish and sit way below deck. early heads have small chambers(64cc), later heads have upper70cc chambers. bigger 2.07 intakes and some port work, a small cam and a decent piston will wake that thing right up!
enjoy the videos, really good stuff.
I've got a Blue 1969 Cutlass with a 455 Olds, the beauty of these Olds engines are they fire right up and are hard to kill!
Well, we will see about all that! Really though, it seems pretty happy considering we just threw on a carb and set the timing.
@@StayTunedTA Either way it's good to see some Oldsmobiles get some love! Keep up the good work on the channel!
Excellent work Tony. The video's sound quality is burly and the build is beauty!
Thanks! We did our best to get it dialed on this one.
I bought an 81 cutlass when I was young. Built it and bought everything for under $600. First trip to town I damn near rear ended a dump truck! I was making $7.50/hour. I got me some food and went to the parts store and spent another $600 on brake components. Never ever slack on a car build. I was 20 and dumb as a rock. But I figured out brakes will stop a car if they work right lol. Love the channel and love your cars!!!
Yeah, I won't be able to wait too long on an upgrade if they don't get much better with adjustments, I don't want to crumple this thing up!
@@StayTunedTA it’s a beautiful car!!! I’ve got a friend with a 69 Chevrolet that absolutely refuses to at least convert the front end over to disk. The kits are pretty reasonable these days!
I just found this channel a few days ago and have become immediately obsessed with it and now I'm in a stay tuned wormhole whilst laid up sick in bed! Liked and subscribed and just loving every video I keep finding! I especially loved the test drives in this one. Reminds me of pretty much every big old car I've ever had. Complete with sketchy as sin brakes and questionable handling and road legality. All part of the fun of a dirt cheap bare bones rebuild. Always great to get an old girl out on the road again! Great work boys. Love the vibe. Love the channel. Keep up the great work.
REDHAWG, lol. I'm definitely digging this series of Cutlass videos. And I absolutely love that the Stay Tuned channel has both Oldsmobile AND Pontiac content. Us BOP folks don't get a lot of attention!
Absolutely one of the best videos on UA-cam, brought a tear to my 42yr old 220lb eye. Very cool , you've given that kid a life long addiction and passed down priceless knowledge. 🫡
That thing is going to fund so many cool future projects! Editing, sound, light, so much work, people expect it since you were on HRG for so long, keep it up!
Very cool Tony! It's great to see the Cutlass back on the road. Looks killer with the rear bumper back on. I'm looking forward to seeing more progress!
Yeah man, thanks! I can't wait to get it registered and start putting down some miles. Maybe even headlights!
Great job guys! Awesome progress!
Love it! No seat belts, sketchy brakes, living on the edge! Keep it up Tony!
If you don’t get those brakes done you’ll loose the farm! Grandma will have to live on the street!! Love the show!
They are gonna beat the dogs, we gotta get it done!
And another great video loved that it went an hour and enjoyed every minute
I have not done drums in 30 years. Brought back tons of good memories of my old Chevelle and doing brakes on all my buddies cars and working on cars with my dad in the driveway for his friends for sure extra cash. Love the channel Mr Tony. Would love to work on the Olds with y'all!!!
Audio sounds great! Cutlass looks great!
Good to hear! Thanks for watching!
So awesome! Love these old cars cant wait to see more updates on the firebird as well
Yes! We've been waiting on a scattershield for months but supposed to have it soon on the Pontiac. Might just get it on an engine dyno and let it rip. Motor is close!
The video quality is getting so much better, good work!
Always loved ya on hrg love to see ya on here!
Great work as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
Sound or no sound I'm still watching. Keep up the awesomeness Tony!
That car sounds so damn good! Also, if you don't pay full attention to a Tony Angelo video, you're missing so many one-liners and innuendos. Lol
It always made me nervous to drum brakes until I did them for the first time. Not hard at all, just different. Great video and ignore the negative comments. Some people are never happy!
Another awesome episode. The brake and suspension mods you described are exactly what I did to my 67. Can’t wait to do the ‘chirpy chirp’.
Awesome! So cool to watch you and your buddies succeed on UA-cam!
Thanks!
Loving the longer video. Keep up the good work. And as a die hard Olds guy that thing is sweet.
Thanks Tony I’m in Boston recovering from a spinal injury and your content it top of the line and even if you don’t believe it but you are a staple in today’s content industry. When your confidence breaks out you are truly in your element maybe a Modern Day Dolsitch I enjoy you shows because you don’t have the patience for the producers that don’t know the first thing about cars engines etc enjoy the reality of the show and proper narration. I own a sublimation company and if you ever need some next level products drop me a line I have over 6000 products that any image can go on
Thanks again if you need something for a special cause and I’ll cover costs and labor for free. Again thanks Tony for keeping it real
Gaeta
Thanks man! Definitely a bit of learning curve on YT compared to the TV stuff but we are having fun here! Hope you recover well, and soon!
Get well soon man!
My aunt had an Olds 442 and she said it was her favorite car. Years back she told me about how she would drag the local streets on Saturday nights showing the boys up in it. Glad this one is getting some love and looking forward to seeing it get the Angelo treatment.
Fantastic Tony! Such a great color and year!!! Nothing finer than your first cruise and burnout in your project olds!!!! Rock on 🤘 Can't wait for some crazy burnouts and drag racing in the psychedelic Pontiac to!!!!
Yes! Thanks for watching! Firebird stuff coming soon. I can't wait.
Had a 71 cutlass S brings back memories, no 442 emblems!! Good call
Sad to see you leave HRG. Glad I found this channel! Looking forward to every episode. 👍🏼👍🏼.
glad you are going to keep improving it can’t wait to see what’s next!
Great channel Tony! Love the Cutlass. I'm putting new front tubular control arms & suspension on a 72 Chevelle right now. I always learn new things watching your videos. Keep up the great work!
Maiden voyages, first fire on new engines you built, electrical systems that work, and a patch of laid rubber. Life, man.
This one has it all! Yeah, really was a great week.
Loved this one put me in a happy place for sure.
Love the Cutlass build, reminds me of a friend who bought a red 72 out of a junkyard back in 02 and turned into a daily driver, we had a blast in that thing. The best feeling is getting a project car out on the road for the first time, second best is getting it on the road safely, lol.
Audio is great on this video!!! And great content, keep up the great work brother!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Cheers Tony ! Thank you for sharing this journey
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
I love this chassis! Chevelle, cutlass and GS! So many ways of building them.
Yeah they are just perfect muscle cars!
Just starting a partial resto on a New Zealand made VG Valiant Safari. Master cylinder off last night disc front will rebuild brakes and suspension to get it legal again. Great video thanks
Very nice! Good luck!
These past 2 videos on getting this cutlass on the road, have been great. Yes watching drum brakes get new hardware is not ground breaking stuff. But I love that this is what you show. So glad you got that “REDHAWG” back on the road.
LOVE THIS BUILD😁👍👍
The test drive around 23 minutes has some serious trailer park boys vibes lol. Great video Tony!
Haha YES. I call Julian!
Wow, this brings me back! I used to help my dad with the drum brake jobs, I can't imagine doing it without all the special tools
Great to see an Oldsmobile Cutlass getting some proper Love. As a 442 owner I can attest to how great the Olds line up is. Good work Tony and crew. But, the chevy trunk stripes should go.
Love it, keep doing you!
Love it man!
That 70 Oldsmobile Cutless with the 350 Rocket V8is going to be a beast when its all done.
Love it. Love the name.
Awesome. I've got parts from my old 470hp/460tq small block Olds I'd donate to the project. Keep the content coming!
Nice work guys!!
Love the cutlass man. One of my favorite cars. We need to put big power in it now.
Yes! it's so good! Let me put some miles on it but it could use some juice! Maybe I can nitrous this thing into space first!
"Redhawg! Hell yeah, REDHAWG!!
...I think we are going to tip over.... I LIKE IT!"
Love the videos Tony, keep it up brother! 🍻
This is amazing. Thanks for doing the Cutty first. Also thanks for the Keaton!
Hi Tony I am glad you have your own thing going.
I really appreciate your videos and love the car it's BEAUTIFUL. In 1986 I had a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass had a 350 rocket I think it was one of my favorite car's. Keep up the great work. Thank you again
Thanks for watching! Yeah, I am really into this thing, want to get the front end together, which is proving to be problematic but we will sort it.
Great video Tony working on a shoestring budget just like most of us but the work is good and its safe, those break shoes have a lot of good miles left on them so as Jackie Gleason would say away we go lol
Very Cool!!! I drove one of these right after getting out of High School. A Gold and White Rallye 350. It was defiantly a torquey bastard. My unc bought it new when he came home from Vietnam and let me use it for the summer after my graduation in 1985. It would light um up from a 30 mph roll.
Audio sounds real good. Glad I found this channel
Awesome content Tony!!!!
I like the music. Tony is a Rocker!!!!!!
So happy to see you guys doing it the right way. As car guys go, DONT FALL INTO THE UA-camR STORY ARC and do over the top non-realistic projects, keep it real!!!!
Cell phones and bail money! Had me rolling! Love the channel, please keep them coming.
Thank you for improving the quality.
Really good work! Love it
Thanks!
I know I'm WAY late but just heard you left motortrend. HRG will never be the same. Glad you're still doin your thing man.👍
Very nice brother!!!! I always wanted a 69' or 70' Olds Cutlass with a 350 Rocket. 70' Chevelle and Cutlass are my all time favorite cars. Love the content brother. I prefer Barrymans fuel system cleaner. Works great!!!
Dude that’s getting rad👊🏻👊🏻
Sigue adelante Tony
Le pones mucho esfuerzo y dedicación y quien se quede de la calidad del vídeo no tiene idea de lo duro que es crear contenido decente y de calidad
Saludos desde Costa Rica
The old "choose-a-curb" drum brakes. She pulls left then she pulls to the right hand on tight. Good video Tony, thanks
Glad you're leaving the drums up front. Look into Musclecar Brakes for upgraded ceramic shoes and high performance drums. They work well.
Thanks, will do!
I put a 96-98 grand cherokee power steering box in my 72 chevelle, steers like a new car and was way cheaper than a "quick ratio performance" box. Love the channel keep it up!
