Was watching a different car channel and thought about how much I missed freiburgers vids being on yt and searched him up for the nostalgia. Uploaded 18 minutes ago. Didn’t even know he was back on yt. It’s a beautiful day.
Watching your channel. It feels scripted or something. But the truth is, you’re just a natural at what you do. So entertaining. Pure gold!! Keep them coming
This is automotive UA-cam gold! I like drag racing content and hooning around but these road trips in these classics with all this history and knowledge being dumped on us has changed the game for me. I’m loving it keep up the good work Dave!
Back in the early 80s, I helped build dome structures. We used dome skins and shot polyurethane foam on the INTERIOR then hung a rear grid followed by sprayed Crete. The concrete was 6 to 8" at the bottom to 4" at the top. Like an eggs shell, they were incredibly strong and energy efficient.
Yeah I was seriously considering having one of those built a few years back. Technically called an Air Form Dome. To make it, the skin was inflated like a giant balloon. Then you'd go inside the balloon via the airlock and do the whole foam/rebar/shotcrete treatment. Glad I didn't buy one, the exterior foam on the ones in this episode are totally shot. Maybe if they had concrete as the outer layer and foam inside they'd actually hold up to the sun/wind/sand etc. Cool idea but needs improvement.
Some people down the road from me built a concrete dome house after hurricane Katrina that's supposed to be hurricane proof. It's concrete on the outside
Derek, as a master plumber of 21 years here in Texas, I wish I could come over and help you bring this dream to life! I have watched you for many years and I love what you are doing. Keep up the good work!
These DF road trips is becoming one of my favorites. Wasn't even born here, but I love these old quirky American history. History that people overlook. Hope you road trip to New England for some content.

Dude, that Greyhound bus was super-cool! It almost looked bagged. I used to have an ‘86 Suburban I bought from a guy in Palmdale. It was an ex-Air Force vehicle. It was red also, w/Centerline wheels, 350ci carbureted, 4x4, with a 3 speed manual w/granny gear. That thing would climb a telephone pole. My kids and I went everywhere in it. 13mpg going 30mph, or 70mph.
There's a guy that has a UA-cam channel that restores and fixes these buses and does maintenance on some that have been converted to R/Vs and yes they had air bag suspension which he shows fixing them .
My good friend Rhonda Brew in Patagonia AZ hand painted thousands of those old fashioned signs and murals in and around that area. She is every kind of artist all in one. Amazing human being.

15:26 as a man raised in Tucson left when I was 13 and 1985. I really appreciate the way you’ve done this video. I love the beauty of the Arizona desert and the coolest small big town in the state. I left before stating that my youth was filled with sitting on Houghton Highway watching street cars do their thing right in front of what was then called the Tucson international dragway. Usually after we watched the ad hock car show that always took place down on Speedway Avenue Friday and Saturday night. I’m not even bringing up listening to AC/DC, Floyd, and what not on the roof of our house when they would come to play the TCC Arena. Or sneaking into the Davis Monson Air Force Base boneyard with my buddies camping out all night.
I'd totally watch a side channel of David exclusively reviewing roadside restaurants along the major current and former US highways. Sort of like diners/drive ins/dives but more authentic & automotive / history focused.
OMG! Freiberger, when you were by the Neon cactus, you were 5 minutes from my house! Further, I used to deliver welding supplies in the SE part of the state, so I knew exactly where you were the whole time. I sincerely hope that one day when you're in town, I get to meet you. I'm a serious Roadkill fan, and my wife LOVES Dulcich.

They're still building monolithic concrete domes in the Southeast U.S. over to Texas. Lots of videos on UA-cam. Featured on chemical company commercials in the early 70s. Have you ever toured Tucson Titan missile museum?
I just got me an 88 Chevy suburban it’s beautiful 70,000 miles original on the clock and yes, it is one older owner and she has paperwork to prove it for three grand no rust at all
Great episode. My daughter and myself love when we stumble on stuff like this. I really enjoy the fact that she appreciates the old stuff as much as I do.
Can confirm how they pronounce Casa Grande. My uncle bought one of those Dodge ambulances and used the running gear and frame to put his 2wd Dodge pick up on it. Great video David. Amazing narrator and always a fun watch.
Thank you David. I know that youtubers with large followings are called "influencers", but what you're doing makes you more of an inspirer. I interrupted my wife three times while watching this video to show her the history and scenery. We talked about taking trips like this. You know how you know someone is a photogrammetrist ? They'll tell you.....just kidding. This is probably the first and last time I get to use the word photogrammetrist. Thanks for new knowledge.
I would imagine that for an image containing a 2D array of these markers they could be used to correct (in digital form) for aberrations in the camera's optical system, and to quantify the perspective correction required when the camera is not directly over the target when the image is taken.
You can tell why your the GrandFather of the Power Tour, Drag and Drive, “roadkill” style drives that have become so popular… it’s not just something you did, it’s your passion and you gave us all a small taste of it. Now it’s up to us to keep that spark going !

The best story telling channel on UA-cam. I love the truck. Reminds me of the 1988 Suburban I owned when I was a SSgt stationed at Randolph AFB. I loved that truck! The clear coat was about as good.
This format is great. Simple, nothing showboaty, and easy to digest. I like it. I assume that with some care in shot placement & editing you can have family or friends along for the ride which it’s own win.
That military junkyard is amazing. Most of the "junk" vehicles there are in better condition than the few older vehicles currently on the road in the Northeast. It's sad that CJs are a rare sight and even YJs are getting less common around here. F**king road salt!
Ahh the mighty 350 TBI... 3rd ingition control module on its way out in the last 8 years in my '90 Suburban. A reliable truck though. Anyway, good to have you back Freiburger! The car guy of the car guys All the best cheers
I love your vacation footage. I do not live in the US and it's a lot of fun doing these nostalgia tours. Seeing old stuff on road trips. Hopefully some day soon I'll be able to see some of these things. As I find myself googling photogrammetry and looking around Casa Grande. And Gama Goats. Took me about an hour to watch 20 minutes for all the googling. Love it. Your narration is amazing. Such amazing stuff, thank you for letting us tag along on your holiday.
It's Amazing to see the creativity, these South West towns have done to preserve. I think it's Awesome that you can have the time to see and show us the Old America. Thanks for tha Vids, and keep'em coming.
Love this nostalgia-related content. Being a native Arizonan, I admit to taking some of these places for granted (our hot rod club runs down to Bisbee at least once per year) but sometimes we forget how many people in the US have never seen the Southwest "as it once was"; so videos like these are really entertaining. Thanks for taking the time to do these little chronicles, Freiburger. Much appreciated. The next time I have a lazy morning and jump in my old Corvette with no place to go, I think I'll be running down to Franks and Franciscos to try it out....
I absolutely love watching your channel, David! I really miss the lowkey adventures where who knows what will happen and where things will take you. Abandoned places like the motels, gas stations and dealerships really show how America was in a different time and it's amazing to see what is left of them. I love checking stuff out like that. It's not corporatized like unfortunately all of the Motor Trend shows became later in their life. This brings me back to when the magazine was running roadkill, just laid back simple fun adventures like this. Carry on David! I love these adventures!
65 year old AZ native and car guy here. Been to all those places many times. I actually have relatives living in Bisbee. I live in what used to be a farming community about 30 miles southeast of Phoenix called Queen Creek.
I live in Tucson. Its a great city with quite a bit of history. I never even knew about the military surplus yard. I'm going to check it out. Love the Suburban!
Hi from Europe. *Loving* the continued travels through Americana. Muffler Men/ Women are my favourite. Great that someone had the foresight to save the crazy golf creatures. And thank you for adding in all those interesting details ( like that Tuscon had a concentration of missile silos ). Nice to see some sun there too. Here in Central Europe, autumn has arrived. All the best and greetings from Prague
Cool trip, great production. We have a M37 former ambulance I think in my town, recently got a glossy olive paint. Camo shouldn't be glossy, but looks good and got saved.
I love this old stuff, and miss it, too much of it here in Canada and the USA just gets tossed or torn down, we were known for our old buildings and architecture, sadly it has changed drastically in the last 15 years, I need to get to California and grab my buddy near Fresno and do a 2 week road trip like this one, thx for the awesome video 👍
David, your videos are so so good. You can make so many different subjects relatable. Your editing is spot on. I am sold on these you tube videos more-so than Roadkill. Keep up your awesomeness!
As a Tucson native I appreciate your enthusiasm for southern AZ and Tucson. It's an amazing place to live. The Pima Air and Space Museum is about as legit as can be. The SR71 we have there is among the coolest planes ever and the way they used start carts is very interesting, unless you're trying to restore a Buick with a factory original Big Block engine... there's definitely a cool story there.
My father had a 41 Dodge weapons carrier back in the 60s. What a beast. Had an 8 ft blade on it and we used it to backfil around basements and carry all our construction stuff for framing houses.
I miss my 1966 CJ5. It had the dauntless V-6 as well and the T86AA transmission With a Dana model 27 up front and the Dana 44 out back. It was a great Jeep!!
I enjoy the americana very much. It's free and I am going to whine! These need to be longer. I get it. This is all on your dime. No underwriting by a corporate influence. No doubt the recording, editing and script narration take considerable time and effort. You are on the right track with this.
Back in 1989 I left Marine Corps and took a bus back from San Diego to Georgia. That bus stopped at several placed in New Mexico, Arizona etc etc. It was the first time i had been west of Illinois. I LOVED IT. I certainly would love to live out there. With my disability, the cold and humidity makes me hurt debilitatingly. So it would do me good. But, ultimately I am thinking central Texas. But I could change my mind if I can fulfill a bucket list and do some traveling out west. Thanks so much for showing this to me. It has ignited that yearning once again in me.
Tech companies and tech company names are a personal mecca for me, so thanks David for this awesome share! I've worked in tech for 34 years and I'm always fascinated by tech company names and buildings. 👍
Also... am I the only one that sees a strikingly similar appearance between the "Muffler Man" and the 100th anniversary Paul Bunyan's in Oregon (from the late 50's)? And to some degree... the Paul Bunyan from "The Tree's of Mystery" (also in Oregon).
Really Enjoyed the tour, and the small glimpse of Davis Mothan AFB where many an aircraft I worked on now rests. BTW your merch store needs some flannels!

I would have to agree. I used to own a 76 GMC Jimmy and that old beast had seats like a recliner. Comfort for days. Miss that ol girl...

Great trip, love all the old military vehicles. A man could spend a lifetime taking and reviving all those cool vehicles !
Love these roadtrip/travelogue videos. And as a not-American, I love seeing the "forgotten America" - it really is unique
Thank's you David, great trip to support our history of time and vehical of our chance to travel. :)
Super seedie is putting it nice, that motel burned down in summer of 24.
Loved seeing S.A.Z from a different perspective
I rode cross country in a 1987 suburban just like that as a kid! Great memories, wish we still had it
You are on to something great @david Freiburger with these autocentric adventuring/Americana videos. The west is a goldmine for this kinda stuff.
Grew up in Tucson and loved exploring the area with my family. Love seeing the history and familiar places!!!
I love the videos and the trips you take man! Keep them coming it gives me and my wife road trip ideas! Peace out Dave!
Love episodes of Drive Across America with David. Idk why this is so great to watch but it is
As a Tucson native I appreciate your enthusiasm for southern AZ and Tucson.
More Please! I hope you go many more places and take us with you. I truly enjoy these roadtrips. Thanks.
Love how enthusiastic you are about our country
