I don't even have this model yet but I just enjoy watching this content so much I instantly clicked it as soon as the notification showed up. Learned so many great techniques from you Sorastro! Keep up the great work.
I got this model a long time ago, but with the Black Sun coming out, I decided it would be a fun list to have them ride around in this thing. I lost the instruction book but this gave me enough to assemble the whole thing while painting it in stages. Thanks :3
Whenever Sorastro talks super high level art stuff I always find myself nodding like I have any idea what that means “Ah yes the tonal range. Yeah yeah for sure.”
Making yourself familiar with some colour theory can really boost your painting. Marco over at Not Just Mecha has some excellent videos on that, for example.
I watched Crabbok’s unboxing video for this model this morning and thought to myself, “I wonder when Sorastro might blow our minds with a painting tutorial for it?” So much for the wait! And so glad to watch and learn from the master!
Really like the style you're using here and on the Sanctum Sanctorum, where you basically do the highlights before the painting. The way you're using the contrast paints and other translucent colors is amazing. The persuader almost appears to be painted in metallic colors.
Just saying. I've been a sub for a long time. I didn't get this notification. Or see it in my feed. Why, I don't know. But I'm here because I just wanted your content. I got the new terrain video at least!
Your Star Wars Legion content is amazing. I love the choice of colours you use. I was wondering if you were going to make a Captain Rex painting tutorial? That would be awesome and very helpful.
I absolutely love the way you painted this model. I'll be buying the paints as soon as I'm ready to start. Thanks also for including instructions for people without air brushes. Love what you do and I can't wait to see what you paint next.
Wauw this looks great! Tempting me to even get droids since droids are cool and this presuader really makes this army. Hope you do a fluttercraft aswell, really curious how you would paint it :)
Hi, first of all sobre for me language, i speak english a little beat... i hace a question, do u think paint mansions of madness some Day in the future? greetings friend
Thanks a lot Dennis! I'm continuing to cover some of the older models as PDF guides at sorastro.com/, and I've got some new videos coming out later in the year for the next wave of minis.. 😀
Wonderful! The design looks H.R.Giger inspired, I'm getting a very biomechanoid feel about it, although that could be down to the excellent paint job. Anyway, another brilliant painting guide from Sorastro - thanks for sharing.
This is simply amazing. Would you recommended this technique for smaller vehicles? Like the Speeder Bikes or the BARC Speeder, etc? I really enjoy the way you organize your videos. The paintjobs are incredible, and on top of that: watching you paint i actually think i can give it a shot. Thanks for the inspiration!
This technique works well for vehicles and buildings. Just make sure you go from light to dark smoothly and thinly when sponging, it's easy to clog up detail. For the bark speeder specifically you could prime dark grey and work up to white and then use apothecary white contrast paint to smooth out the blend and bring out detail.
Thank you very much! I think you could use the technique for smaller vehicles, if you’re after quite a metallic look of course. I’m not sure I’d use this approach for say the Speeder Bikes as they really have more of an opaque brown layer of paint on them.. 😀
Another great videos from the master, as usual ! And I don't even play/own any minis from this game :D Genuine question: wouldn't the scratches remove the priming aswell ?
Thanks guys! I actually produced a PDF guide for the AAT some time back: www.google.com/amp/s/sorastro.com/2020/09/21/aat-battle-tank-pdf-painting-guide/amp/ 🙂
@@Sorastro I was wondering if that was the case. I guess there's no point making a video for the same exact techniques just on a different model. At least now I can feel better about buying the paints knowing I'll be using them for 2 spiders and as well as the snail. Great tutorial as always!
Really hate to say. I’m not a fan of this kit. The paint job from Sorastro(I have not been paid to say this, other less worthy model, miniature painters are available) is it’s only saving grace. We are so far away now from a war/skirmish game, realms of model making now. We need more characters with their ships etc. ghost + Crew etc. AT-AT….I can dream. But now it’s 28mm scale Astro droid in 57 small, tiny, model kits. Plus this new faction coming in 2022 does look like Atomic mass are moving away from what came before. Marvel Crisis proves one miniature can be to small/damn near impossible to build with big hands. Anyway ranting at 5.59am in morning instead of sleeping.. isn’t productive. Thinking about opening the Christmas chocolates now maybe.
Ha ha, hey man! I personally think the model captures the look from the movies perfectly, but if you don't enjoy vehicles etc then I get why you don't like it. Regarding the next wave I'd only like to point out that it was already planned by the team at FFG before the switch over to AMG.. Enjoy those chocolates! 😁
I love this tutorial!! I have already seen it many times and I will never get tired of seeing it... now I have a new commission and the client wants it similar... my clients liked your video a lot💪😍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks a lot Marko! I guess it would; the AT-STs in the movies aren't so heavily textured/weathered, but if you're not shooting for "screen accuracy" you could totally have some fun with them using this method! :)

Hey Sorastro, bought some expansions for legion and was looking to you as usual for guidance. Do you have any recommendations for Death troopers and Rebel pathfinders? Can i use a previous video or from imperial assault? Thanks for your hard work!
Hey, thanks! I've not painted the Pathfinders yet but I did produce a PDF guide for the Death Troopers some time back that you might find helpful: sorastro.com/2019/05/01/death-troopers-pdf-guide/ 🙂

You’re a mini painting genius…this was a unique and effective way to paint o never would have thought of. Do you do a tester first or are all these Star Wars videos your first attempts?
Thank you so much! It's funny you should ask; I usually do colour tests before filming, but on this occasion I felt I had a good enough understanding of the paint's properties to just go for it! 😁
Another masterpiece, and another model that I will have to buy now thanks to this tutorial. Fantasy flight games need to start paying you as the amount of money they must make when you release a tutorial must be incredible haha. Keep the tutorials coming.
How do deal with the possible cross contamination with those contrast pots? I cringed every time I saw the brush go into different pots, but I have to say the end result is fricken amazing, Are those just extra pots you don't worry about?
Sometimes the colors are close enough that cleaning the brush with a paper towel is sufficient, but if you want to be extra careful to keep your paints pure, then using a plastic watercolor mixing tray would be perfect. The only drawback is you will be going through paint quicker, as you will likely put more paint on the tray than you need and won't be able to reuse it.
