We hope you enjoyed this and you are looking forward to part 2 - Coming later this weekend! Let us know what other Star Wars Legion models you would love us to work on below.
I used your tutorial for a commission. I made some adjustments to my taste. Turned out beautifully! And I have a very happy customer. Thank you! Excellent tutorial!
Thanks so much! We love airbrushing, but want to show people what can be done without one 😊. At some point in the future, we’ll combine the two techniques!
I am finding your painting techniques very interesting and I nave learned a thing or two. Love how you mix & blend so many colors into your work. I wish I could master this technique but I doubt it; however, it still improves my overall painting. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! Don't doubt yourself, dude! Grab a piece of terrain and try something new, it's really helpful to try it on it as it stops you from worrying so much and can be easy to learn from 😊🤞
OMG Please more star wars legion vids! these are so good. (with a bit less time lapse - look at how sorastro uses editing instead of time lapse) The TX 130, barc speeders, LOVE to see you do the AT-ST, great possibilities there. B2's would be fascinating, Dewback could be awesome, Tauntaun, the airspeeder, the rebel laser cannon, STAP when it comes out, how about the barricades? definitely not enough interesting guides on painting barricades, or the upgraded bases, crashed escape pod, awesome, crashed AT-ST, and the bunker. I may actually splurge on a bunker with an awesome video...
We actually painted some of the AT-ST and had a blast ^_^ We'll return to them at some point in the future, once we've painted Indomitus. Thanks so much for the suggestions!
Just bought these brushes the other day and really looking forward to try them ! I have been painting steadily for the past 6 years and was looking for the perfect alternative to an airbrush system. It seems like these brushes are the thing indeed ! Thank you for the fantastic tutorials. 🤘🏻 Cheers from Denmark 🇩🇰
That's incredible. Congratulations. I would like to see how yoy paint more models of Star Wars or realistic combat tanks, please. Thanks for those videos.
Amazing tutorials with a great effect! I'm going to be picking up a set of D brushes next payday and getting to work on my unpainted vehicles and terrain.
I’ve bought the tank, I’ve ordered your set of dry brushes, I’m happy with the first half of the video. Trouble is, I am way out of my depth when it comes to using the bright blue, orange and pink to highlight which I am really keen on doing. Please, please submit a slow video on how to achieve this with these specific colours on this specific tank.
Hey buddy, it's all about mixing little amounts in. If you want to make it more simple you could stick with one of the additional 'crazy' colours as I don't think the variety that I use is needed in retrospect. Just pick whether you like the top or bottom half of the miniature that I did the most and either go cool or warm😊 Thanks so much for your support! Hope you're enjoying the brushes!
Hi, could I make a request for a non-sped up version of this if you have it. You do some stuff during the time lapse I'd love to zoom in on and watch some of your technique....
Sorry for the delay dude. We've taken this feedback on board and started giving more in-depth instructions in our latest videos. With the highlights, we just cover less area each step and a brighter colour 😊If you have any additional questions/suggestions/tips don't hesitate to share, we're here to help!
Hey! I love the way that tank looks, but I am new to painting and I am on a tight budget. What combination of yellow and other colors would be optimal to achieve that classic aat tan, without any of the purple/green detailing? Thanks!
You can use whatever you like, especially as they're so many stages going on top of it. If you use something light though, that'll obviously affect your first paint coat as it's gonna behave very differently than it did over black, the stronger the colour the less it'll be affected. 😊🤞
@@ArtisOpus thanks so much! Got your paint set through Element Games for this build but didn't have the black primer in stock anywhere; will fall back on trusty Standard Mechanicus Grey!
I'm gonna have a go at doing a death Guard Plague Burst Crawler with these brushes. I'm hoping I can get something nice going on with the greens and the rust colours.
Hey dude, sorry for the delay! I am using our XL brush from series D, can find it here: store.artis-opus.com/collections/frontpage/products/series-d-xl-brush-not-included-in-series-d-brush-set
I know this is a bit late, but could you please give an alternative to scale color's Huldra Blue? I can't get it in stock anywhere currently. Preferably from citadel. Just picked up your brush set D because I'd love to try this as opposed to messing around with the airbrush. Thank you so much!
Absolutely Noah: elementgames.co.uk/search?q=deep%20blue Element also regularly restock huldra :) Citadel have some lovely blues, but IMO there isn't quite one with the depth of either of these.
@@ArtisOpus Thanks so much!! You guys are the best. That prep step seems so important (the initial drybrush after prime) and you mix a lot so I wanted to be as accurate as possible before trying myself :)
You can actually take the technique used in our recent ‘Ghost Wall’ tutorial and use them on a smaller scale for this type of stuff quite easily, you just have to take care and use slightly smaller brushes.
Hey Artis, I'm having a lot of trouble mixing the paints right. I keep getting a greenish colour instead of the brown, and whenever I apply more purple and yellow the green is still there. What could I be doing wrong?
Incredible... This was amazing... Why did you use that deep blue as underpainting if the colors above are not transparent?? I mean, you could have keep the black primer as undercoat, right?
Hi Carnat, it is our dampening pad, it allows you to involve a small, reliable amount of moisture in the painting process, which helps paint exit, care for your brushes, and avoid caking/ 'thick/dry' drybrushing :). It is available from our store, and comes as part of the Series D set.
Awesome tutorial! :) I've been meaning to reproduce your result on my AAT although I seem to be missing something. I am using cheap makeup brush so it might be that. Also I am using my standard wet palette which probably doesn't make much sense with dry brush technique (both stippling and classic). The effect is that my color transition is much less smooth than yours - there is this speckle pattern which is quite clearly visible. I have tried a classic, plastic palette as an alternative to wet palette but my paint tends to dry very quickly. In your case it seems like you can use your paint forever ;) Is it somehow related to the palette type you are using? Or to the fact that you always mix in some water, because you dip your brush in the sponge?
Hey dude, I'd skip a wet palette entirely, it doesn't fit with the technique, and you're probably using paint that's too wet, I take my moisture from the brush (in tiny amounts) using the dampening pad, it's more predictable, and doesn't lead to 'clagging' which sounds like your issue. I'd definitely consider picking up a set of Series D, they're designed for this technique (by me :)) and suit it perfectly, they also last incredibly long, so you'll get your money's worth!
It's our Dampening Pad, check out our ultimate drybrushing guide, or/and airbrush blends video for in depth info. It's an important part of keeping things smooth!
Im just wondering why its the trade federation color scheme being used while this one should be a part of the seperatist army which would mean its having that blue colouration
Not a worry dude, just go for the closest match you can find and it’ll work out fine, we’re mixing paint a fair bit here anyway, so it isn’t a fine-art at all! If there’s any specific questions just let me know.
The result is very good but the video is way too fast, particularly when you apply the pink and blue. Hard to use it as a tutorial. Would it be possible to add a slower version?
Absolutely dude, we've taken this feedback on board! Check out our latest videos for more in-depth instructions. With the highlights, we just cover less area each step and a brighter colour 😊
Thanks Ian, hopefully if you check out our most recent tutorials (this weekend we have some more SW Legion!) you'll prefer the levels, we've learned a lot in the last 6 months :)
I love the painting technique very cool video. Please slow down the timelapse your video is only 13 min I can sit through a 15 min painting video easy.
Hi Dylan, thanks so much for the feedback, this has been noted, we're going to do more talking before time-lapses in the future to ensure people have enough time to understand, we're always looking to improve: thanks for your help!
Hey, just some feedback; I really don't like those timelapse shots, they're too quick to follow what is happening. I think it would be better if you showed the effect you are trying to achieve each time you brought in a new colour, and how you decided where to apply it, before then showing a couple of seconds of you applying it. Then cut to the after shot, and rinse and repeat. That said, i love the end effect, i'll be trying this on my new Astra Militarum Vakyrie this week!
Thanks so much for the tip dude. 😊We've taken this feedback on board. You should see the difference in our more recent videos. As a general rule of thumb, you simply shrink the area of your first area with each consecutive step. I hope your army turns out well! Let us know if you have any more questions.
Sorry for the delay mate! I don't think so, it's an important part of the technique if you're going for this effect. The transition from cool to warm is essential for the final result 😊 . Of course, you can skip it if you want a warm version though.
You need to slow the timelapse parts down. Double the time they take so we can actually see what you are doing. This video felt like "So just stipple this yellow on, and then finish the rest of the model". I really have no idea how you achieved that nice blue orange and pink effect. Seems like a critical component of this result.
Even on playback speed 0.25 your going too fast to see what you're doing and how you are mixing. I've never painted miniatures before and am trying to understand the process.
