Oddly enough, yesterday was pay day and I stocked up on Daler Rowney FW inks. When I was at Blick throwing bottle after bottle into my little reusable basket thingy I let out an audible Homer Simpson type, drooly satisfied noise as I visibly shook. And as I was in an art supply store everyone who caught me understood completely.🤣
🤣 I can picture you now Amy! And I totally get it - i went into the tiny art shop in town and I saw this ultramarine bottle of Indian ink!!! 🤣😅 no one batted an eyelid x

I’ve wanted to try acrylic inks since I watched one of your earlier videos. It looks like a fun and beautiful medium! 🤩👍
You NEED to play with it! You can play with it like a watercolor or use it in a dip pen full strength. That being said you can then use it wherever you would use watercolor/gouache/acrylic, dip pens, calligraphy brushes.....you get the point!
Honestly they are delightful to work with! I strongly recommend just getting a couple of bottles to play with 🥳♥️
They're definitely the best drawing inks. They flow better than shellac-based Indian ink and because they're pigmented they're fully permanent which not all coloured drawing inks are.
Love your final piece and the fact it started life as a swatch even more 👏

LOVE the transformation from simple swatcherooni to finished, fabulous, ginger-ific art! I've not worked with my inks in a while, so of course after watching you play, they must make more appearances in my process. My problem with the inks is that the bottles should be twice the size. When I use ink, I USE ink. Looking forward to upcoming vids and events. smooch smooch smoocherooni! OH...and removing border tape is THE most satisfying thing EVER!

I just love watching you swatch and paint! Hear me out, I don’t usually like swatching videos or I should say, I don’t usually enjoy OTHER people’s swatch and art hauls, but that is never the case with you. I always feel like I’m right there swatching and getting overly excited about every new bit😂because I am such a lunatic about new art supplies and get way too excited. @@lazyredhead They're pricey (just checked the price of the Bombay ink set I have and it averages around £64 which is OUCH) but I say they're definitely worth it!

I've been specifically avoiding acrylic inks cos I know I'll open a massive can of worms and end up buying a million of them and those tiny bottles don't look like they'll last - but since I love working on textured surface it's starting to sound like a hell of a good idea... And it's my birthday on the 28th so now I'm having bad thoughts about dragging my husband to an art supply store 🤣 AGAIN 🤣 🤣 🤣 even though I was considering breaking the pattern and asking for non art supply gifts for a change 🤪 or maybe I can get away with both 😆

And get him to get both gifts for sure! 😅 the bottles are small - but you can add water to them to make them go further. You may think it with dilute the pigment but a small amount does very little.
ALSO Liquitex do great translucents whereas FW & systems 3 do great creamy pigments.
Defo go to an art shop and have a test of some. I LOVE doing that!
I will do my best to avoid sharing art supplies we don’t already have - I will try and reinvent the ones we have already 🤣😬 ♥️
That antelope brown is dribblish....now I have an even longer wishlist than I had before, and it was already getting wildly out of control. I love acrylic inks...I love everything...I possibly have a problem. As ever, you're a chuffing delight and I'm so excited about the upcoming workshops. When I first started painting, I used to paint big and loved it.....but then I went small and kind of stayed there. I'm sure there's a gripping metaphor in there. Nevertheless....onwards we go! the tape pull is my fave part too! how do you get your tape not to tear your paper?? I've been using masking tape and it rips the mess out of the watercolor paper I've been using...
I use artist tape Elizabeth - it comes in all sorts of fab colours too. I get mine off Amazon for £4.99 really cheap and realisable ❤️

@@lazyredhead nice! ok I will check that out, thank you! I've been using my hair dryer to try to gently heat the tape and loosen the adhesive so it doesn't tear, which is about 90% successful haha. hoping you are well, too!
Love the final piece, so beautiful and I love the lines you added with the pencil. Now I want to go play with my acrylic inks! Haha sometging I have done that fun is to drip random blobs on the paper and then going in with pen or pencil when it dries and drawing in a flower over the splotch of color. Also doesnt painting over swatches give the work the best texture?! Love it

I know you dislike the pearlescent colors, but I have an iridescent calligraphy ink from Dr. Ph. Martin's - black sparkle, I absolutely love it. No idea what to do with it, so i just make random marks on paper, but it always reminds me of you. They have a whole iridescent line and I am slowly buying all the colors. They might go well with your glitter experiments.

If I don’t mix the bottle I get the pigment without the pearly stuff. I just feel it’s a distraction - maybe I’m using it wrong 😅 but as promised I will do some experiments 🥰
@@lazyredhead oh man, so much pressure! 😳 I hope you like it. I don't care for pearlescents much either, I think I tend to be disappointed with pearlescents as I always think they should be MORE, not sure more what, but more something.
I will say I bought the white iridescent as my second iridescent, and I don't like it nearly as much as the black. It is more pearly, where as the black ends up silverly. It might work with a color, but I would definitely start with the black.

Hi. I just discovered you. Happily. What kind of paper did you use for this.? I haven’t used acrylic ink yet but I’m very curious and it will probably be the next medium. I begin to work with. I really learned a lot from this video.
Welcome Tara to my crazy 🤪 ♥️ I will watch the video back to see as I have jumped onto so much since then. However sketchbook I use for ink are - moleskine watercolour 200GSM, Molskine drawing 165GAM, Ranger sketchbooks, Fabriano and art creation by Royal Talens. Paper I use cartridge paper as it is cheap, hardwearing and plentiful. You can use Fabriano sheets or form the roll - I would say don’t go lower than 200GSM for sheets. I hope this made sense 🤣♥️
what kind of paper and weight are you painting on for this one? Is it for mixed media or is it watercolour paper?
