    It blows my mind how many artists on UA-cam are left handed :)

    • @marabethquinart

      I know, I've noticed that a lot of people in creative fields are lefties.

      I've noticed that too, because I'm also lefty. Left hand = right side of the brain...

    One of the obstacles I find with layering even more is the fear of ruining what I have created…..you are so brave…inspiring.

      I know, that’s one of the hardest things for me too. Covering over things and taking that risk is something that is good to practice-it’s like strengthening a muscle

    It is an absolutely wonderful piece. I love layering, whether it is paper or paint. As you said, it is important to be aware of what you're drawn to. Layering in a painting is crucial to gain the depth of what I'm after. It's like life and people. There is so much more to all of us than what we see. I just had an epiphany about my artwork. Wow!!! Thank you for sharing this video.

      Love that and yes, it IS just like life and people!! It’s nice to make that correlation between what we love in life and what we love in our work. It makes it so much more meaningful.

    I have only found you on you tube this week and i jave to say that you have saved my sanity as an artist
    Thank you for getting me out of an
    Artists mental block.
    You are an inspiration to all

    This is where I find myself. I’ve made hundreds of quilts. Quilted even more for others, professionally. Hand and machine. I’ve mastered the art and I want to explore. 35+ years of quilts. I love what you do. Betty Franks has been my inspiration so far. I’m looking for my new expression.
    I feel a little overwhelmed with a wide open gate. Not sure where to go first.

    • @marabethquinart
      @marabethquinart  Місяць тому

      My advice is to just choose one thing and explore that for a little bit. I find it overwhelming with so many choices and my brain is always wanting to do it all, try it all-this is good for an explorer, but it can also serve as a distraction for me, so I have to notice which it is in the moment. Have fun exploring!

    Can the shiny magazine papers be used in mixed media collage? Is there any prep that needs to be done?

    • @marabethquinart
      @marabethquinart  22 дні тому +1

      I see people use them but don’t really do much of that myself. I like to make all of my own papers so I know exactly what they’ll do, but I would google it because I’ve seen others use them.

    6:51 And now I can see intricate faces on either side - one on the RHS that’s lighter & more colourful, one on the left that’s darker & more shadowed. Interesting. I wonder if your stages where you felt you could have stopped coincided with those different directions your painting could have taken 🤔

    Great work! 😍 Are all the collage papers made with watercolour? How does the watercolour stick on the glazing liquid when you paint over the collage pieces with watercolour?

    • @marabethquinart
      @marabethquinart  6 місяців тому

      The papers are tinted with acrylic, then botanical figures are painted with either acrylic or watercolor, depending. The glazing liquid doesn’t seem to deter the watercolor from adhering to the surface, so when I’m done, I spray varnish to lock it in place and then brush varnish it.

    5:28 This could have gone in a beautiful fishy direction here. I can see multiple fish developing that would have created a gorgeous colourful water scene 🤔 A goldfish up the top right, a beautiful purple Betta fish on the LHS middle & a less obvious fish on the lower right, with even a turtle head poking in from the RHS there
