    Excellent review! For me, the best reviews come from riders who have put some 'hard' miles on their bikes. Yes, it's nice to see vids on the shiny new bikes ... but what most of us want to know ... will my bike, my road chariot, hold up to the weather, rough roads, the commutes, the long tours without breaking the bike or our pocketbooks? RedAng ... you've earned a faithful following. Thanks for your attention to detail and addressing what matters most.

    Regarding the more forward pegs that you mentioned, I have found that simply laying your legs over the pegs puts you into that laid back attitude that you’re after. Awesome when the cruise control is engaged… very relaxing.
    Thanks for your vid’s Angus, keep them coming. 🙂

      Hi Rick, its a pleasure, really glad you like the vids 👍. Yes I do do that quite a lot actually, rest my legs over the foot pegs! It's nice to stretch them out, I do feel a bit fragile doing it though! The cruise control is such a good edition to this bike, I probably use it too much haha1

    Great to hear you've had such good luck, looking forward to clocking more miles on mine. I'm jealous you get the opportunity to ride so much. I've had my speedmaster just a few days over a year now and have only managed to put on 3500 miles. Granted I did purchase a Interceptor back in December and have been riding it recently.

    10 thousand miles in 7 months is a great effort Angus, the speedmaster is an effortless bike to ride....like you I'm wrapped in mine, People say you can't tour on the SM, that's total BS....the slight wobble you are feeling through your bars could be steering head bearings need a slight adjustment.....But...I had the exact same problem, I posted about the wobble on the Triumph RAT forum and several people who had the same problem answered my question ...it is or in my case it was the front Avon Cobra AV71 tyre, they are grippy enough but tend to wander slightly when worn in....I first noticed the wobble around the 5,000 mile mark and by 7,000 miles I needed to fit a new rear tyre so I also fitted a new front, I changed to Shinko 777's front and rear and no more wobble.....I have done a tad over 2,000 miles on the shinko's and it is steady as a rock, it gets pushed some days, other people have fitted Michelin and also the Avon Cobra Chrome for example and the wobble has not returned for them either.....a set of hard lockable bags would be the go,I'm glad you mentioned it....Mate you're a good ambassador for the SM, it's a great bike and you obviously are loving it.....who said you can't tour on a speedmaster...lol....Ride Safe.....

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому

      Cheers Jeff 👍 I appreciate it. Absolutely no problem at all touring on the Speedmaster. Yes I think you maybe right, the head bearings may need replacing or adjusting etc... I have experienced it before. I don't think it is the tyres as they are the same as my previous set before the damaged sump, and I didn't have a problem with those.
      Taking her in for a service in a few days time so will find out then hopefully and fix the wobble. Yup lockable panniers would be very useful indeed!! I like the look of the Viking set.
      Haha I appreciate it, I try to be the best ambassador I can!! It kis not hard when riding such a great bike. Cheers and same to you 👍

    Another fine review Angus. Great mileage. Loving mine. The ‘footboard’ kit is a game changer for comfort and for me personally as a disabled rider. Whilst expensive the boards offer move flexibility for feet positioning, especially for touring. The ‘heel/toe’ shifter is excellent with positive gear changing. The kit may even provide a slightly better lean angle. Superb bike and agree with your comments about size. Easy to manouvre at a standstill. Well done.

    Hi Angus
    Looked back at this vid because Triumph have introduced a game changer for me. I have had forward pedals before but they kill my lower back. You can now get mid mounted pedals which now means this is a serious option for me. My garage would be T120 plus a Speedy, how cool would that be.
    By the way, I follow Mr Darcy and the Ol’man. OM reviewed the Speedy a couple of days ago (April 2023) and endorsed your channel. I have been following them a good three years or more and never known OM to endorse another channel. Take the piss, yes (TMF), but not outright endorsement. So, as I have said to you before, do not doubt yourself, people like and relate to you.
    Ride safe.

    Great review Angus! Having watched all your prior episodes (and owning a new model myself), one can only come away impressed with this bike. We’ve already talked about the Viking bags, but you can also get the rear seat backstay and pad with the luggage rack (I have mine on order) which would allow you to put a massive Viking sissy bar bag on the back, so you’ll not only have lockable hard bags, but tons of storage in their sissy bar bags. Is your rear suspension not adjustable? The newer bikes are adjustable with the simple turn of a supplied spinner. I also bought an adjustable Madstad windscreen that can move both up and out about 2 inches. And, it is super easy to change screens as well. I have both touring and fly screens and can switch them out in seconds. I know it’s a bit costly to add these things, but they make this motorcycles one of the most flexible bikes on the market today - like a touring and adventure bike in one. And your videos prove how well these Triumph Bonnevilles perform. Oh, and I ordered the floor boards as I hear they are super comfortable. I also have the engine crash (dresser) bars and have rested my feet on them while in cruise control. I wrapped simple pipe warmers around them and the bars are both protected and comfortable. Cheers!

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому +1

      Hey, cheers glad you liked it 👍 I like the sound of what you have done with your bike. Sounds like the perfect comfortable tourer! That is a great point, with the added luggage rack/sissy bar I could fit a large bag on the back. I have been tempted by the floor boards but really hope that they don't limit the lean angle too much.
      If I eventually find the luggage too much of a problem I will definitely look in to the viking solution. I like the idea of the engine crash bars 👍 added comfort for cruising. Will speak to my dealer about those. Cheers for the tips and long may you continue to enjoy your Speedmaster.

      I personally went for the Speedmaster because of its touring capabilities and the cruiser style. Also I think it is one of the best looking bikes around!

    I had the same problem with my mirrors on my 2018 street scrambler and 2019 Scrambler 1200 XE. Both used different mounts, and neither would stay in place if I moved them a bit by hand. I took to carrying the Allen key in my pocket because I used it so much. Definitely annoying and something they could probably re-engineer without too much fuss.

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому +1

    You know I'm biased too, but good review.
    I have some of the same critique. Not the rear, but I find the front suspension is too short, but then I weigh considerably more than you ;)
    Re. The luggage, yes, other bikes have more options. The Speedmaster is quite awkward. The subframe attachment points aren't level along the bike or horizontally and are too far forward.
    Vikingbags are American sales only and very hard to get over here. I got some imported via eBay, but couldn't make them fit! :(
    I ended up getting the Hepco and Becker C-Bow system and bags. The C-Bow thing works very well and the bags are semi-solid with ok-ish locks. Expensive! but they work.
    I also got the Triumph sissy bar/backrest and luggage rack. Small, but good enough to strap a luggage roll to.
    I'm off with the missus to Holland soon, so I'll tell you if they work out!
    Perhaps see you for a ride in the UK soon, Gus?

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому

      Thanks 👍 Yes the front suspension is not ideal over the bumps either! I believe the 2021 models onwards have slightly larger diameter front suspension?
      Ah no thats a shame about the viking luggage, that must have been annoying. Thanks I will take a look at the Hepco and Becker system. I have been meaning to order the triumph sissy bar and luggage rack. I originally wanted them but Triumph didn't have them in stock. I guess they do now.

    You might find that the fork head bearings might need some slight adjustment to take up any play that might have developed over the 10,000 miles. That might sort out that slight wobble. Either that, or you might have an imbalance in the front wheel/tyre. 👍

Prefer the exhaust on the T100 looks like stainless steel not a fan of the chrome look of the T120 chrome exhaust I guess I Could ask the dealer to change stuff and buy the T120 I also love the look of the Kawasaki z900rs but no cruise control and that radiator looks like an after thought. Hi, yes I definitely recommend riding all 3 before you make a decision. I would say if you want cruise control go for the T120, you can always customise the bike afterwards. There are lots of options for after market exhausts etc.... Good luck with your choice 👍

      To be completely honest, I would find it a squeeze with luggage for two people for one month! Especially if you plan on camping.

    I've not watched to the end of the video yet so wonder if you will raise the issue of suspension - over certain bumps the bike seems very hard, so I am looking at suspension upgrade options. Just wondered if you feel the same.

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому

      Yes if you watch until the end of the video I do mention the suspension. Especially the rear shock, it can be quite bad over large bumps etc...

    • @grahamtricker4103
      @grahamtricker4103 2 роки тому +1

      You should be able to do 120 - 150 miles on a tank. You would need to stop and take break at that distance anyway...

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому +1

      Yes I probably average about 135 miles on a tank. I do find my coffee consumption has gone up somewhat! It would be nice if it was a bit larger, but it is not a big problem.

  • @tonebonetones
    @tonebonetones 2 роки тому +1

    Yes, I'd much rather have this than a whale of a Harley or Indian cruiser. I'm not a fan of cruisers in general, however, as being somewhat mature, my back wouldn't take the punishment of that riding position, where any bad jolt - as you fairly point out - is transfered straight up your spine. I am wondering if a high end rear shock would eliminate this, though, say an Ohlins or similar? The slightly learnt forward position of a cafe racer - which is what I have - is better for me, although they are not good for long distance, anything over 2 hours and I am uncomfortable. For twisty country road enjoyment, though, they are perfect
    However, as a motorcycle, I think this looks marvelous and like my ducati, is very well finished and detailed. I would also much rather have this Triumph to tour, than a huge ADV bike like the BMW GS, aswell. I'm 6'-0" and find the GS and Africa Twins are far too big for 90% of riders. I don't like to be riding a barge, and it's interesting that most GS owners I know are pretty small fellows.......I suspect a Napoleon complex could also be a factor in its popularity lol.

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому

      Fair enough I can understand that! The shock of the bumps do go straight up your spine! Yes I am currently looking into an alternative rear shock, however it does not bother me too much. I love it for touring on, although it doesn't have all of the modern technology it is great fun. I used to have an Africa Twin and yes I definitely found it too tall.
      It did make me feel a bit taller though 😂. I hope you continue to enjoy your Ducati 👍

    Interesting, I think the Speedmaster is very suitable to me to long trips. My T120 even so, a joy to ride also on long stretches. Way better then ugly adventure bikes… 🙂

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому +1

      Absolutely has the adventure bikes on the ropes in the looks department!! 👍 Touring is one of the reasons I choose the Speedmaster, just that extra bit of comfort. I am sure the T120 is also comfortable, I just fancied the more cruiser style look.

      I would take a look at the Scrambler 1200, although does not have that cruiser style. It is very comfortable and great for bad/bumpy road conditions. Long travel suspension and larger wheels for those pot holes!

    Great review, I have a couple questions:
    1. How is it on the highway at around 80 mph? I'm looking at one for touring and will be on roads with an 80 mph speed limit so want to make sure it does alright.
    2. Did you find out what was causing the wobble in the bars?

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks 👍 I would say at 80mph it is ok but not ideal. 70/75mph is its sweet zone!
      Something to do with the steering head. Had worn out over time and miles. I have had it before on different bikes, so not specific to the Speedmaster.

    • @morningstoke
      @morningstoke 2 роки тому

      @@redangrevival That will work well, most of my riding will be in the 70mph range or less. Just test rode one yesterday but didn't take it on the highway. Absolutely loved the overall feel of the bike and seating position. Just waiting to hear about buying out the owners loan. 2nd bike and am getting it specifically for touring.
      That's no worry then, glad it wasn't anything serious. Thanks for the quick reply!

    Nice one do you think that the T120 would have been as good or no for what you have done on Speedy Angus . Or would you say the other Bonneville's would not have been as comfortable . : )

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому +1

      For reliability etc... I think the T120 would be the same as the Speedmaster. However when it comes to touring I think the Speedy would be a fair bit better. Just so comfortable and much better wind protection with the big screen.
      That is not to say you couldn't tour on a T120, I just don't think it would be as comfortable. Hope that helps!

    • @Disposalist
      @Disposalist 2 роки тому

      The SM can definitely do it (obviously, proved by Gus!), but I actually think the T120 would be better for touring for most people because of having more/easier options for luggage. I had a T100 before my Speedmaster.
      BUT the Speedmaster is more comfortable for some - definitely for me, as I have a duff knee that prefers being straighter.
      Not for everyone, I'm sure. Some don't like that you can't take some of the weight onto your legs easily. Some prefer being able to 'change' their seating by sliding around on a bench seat. The Speedmaster kinda has one position.

    Wow 10k in 7 months. That's a lot of riding. Yup she is a beauty, a real head turner. I just wish Triumph would give the bike at least 100bhp and a corresponding increase in grunt as at 80+mph on the motorway or accelerating full throttle up to it can be a little ragged, but this is just a small point as motorway high speed cruising is not really what the bike was designed for. Mind you, if Triumph can give the Speed Twin and Thruxton over 100bhp then I am sure they can give the SM the same treatment. But it's still a great bike. ACF50 is brilliant anti-corrosion protection.
    I thought you already had the feet forward controls??????

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 роки тому +1

      Yup I have certainly packed the miles in! So pleased with it, I almost feel bad for the bike I use it sooo much haha. Yes I agree, some more power would be nice, although of course not a deal breaker.
      There is a company up north called TEC Bike parts and they specialise in Triumph Bonnevilles. Apparently you can use the cam from the Thruxton in the Speedmaster, it is meant to give it a fair bit more power!! I am looking into it, once my warranty is up 👍
      I just have the standard foot pegs. Mid to forward I believe. They are very comfortable
