My first motorbike was bought November 21, 1964.... and yes, I do remember that date! It was a 1965 Suzuki "Hillbilly" 80cc ring-dinger 2 stroke with two sprockets and an extra length of chain for when I wanted to go off-road. I was 15 1/2 years old and the differences with my mental outlook on life changed immediately! Motorcycling has been a part of my life for 58 years now and I have great memories of rides I've taken for all those years. I am now motorcyless, unfortunately, as a few years ago, after my last back surgery, I didn't think I could ever ride again. I gave my Yamaha FJR 1300 away and I have regretted it ever since. It turns out that I am more than physically able to ride again, but do not have the financial ability to buy another bike. Money is tight, but I still continue to hold out hope on being able to get another one. Last week I believed I might be able to purchase a "new" 2017 Moto Guzzi MG21 Flying Fortress. But... there's always a but... things have come up and I won't be able to do that. I will continue to hold out hope on getting another motorcycle as there is no other alternative for me. I need a job, is what I need! But at 73 soon to be 74 years old those things are hard to come by. Still, hope is what will get me through. Thank you, RedAng, I enjoy your videos and will share them with others when I can!
👍 A sterling career of motorcycling you have had 💪 I suppose life throws curve balls at us all. On the positive side great that you are physically able to ride again. Money is always a factor with these things, keep your hopes up and I am sure something will pop up for you. It is my pleasure and thank you, really glad you enjoy the videos. All the best to you with a happy 2023.
You had ++more out of that bike in 18 months than most bikers do over the course of a typical 3 yr ownership. Really enjoyed seeing your speedy trips. Ride on!
I kind of knew the answer before watching the video! I'm the same as you, I love my Speedy and she is the first bike I've owned in 40 years of motorcycling that is a keeper. There may be other bikes alongside the Trumpet Strumpet in the future, but me and her are together for good! On the battery issue, check the earth cable from the negative battery terminal to where it bolts to the bike. I had similar issues recently. There is enough continuity to allow the bike to turn on and run, but not to start as the amp draw when starting is way more. If the connection has loosened there may not be enough of a pathway for the many "wiggly amps" to complete the circuit when starting. Also, what you did was Bump Starting. Jump starting is when you use a power pack or jump leads from another vehicle. Looming forward to watching your further adventures.
Haha I thought it may be a bit obvious!! It is such a loveable bike, despite maybe not being perfect for touring etc... Thanks I will take a look, perhaps a new battery maybe in order as well. Ah yes, that sounds correct, cheers was more of a bump start. Glad I got her going. Cheers
For me motorcycling is pure therapy. Two days ago I was on my 2023 Goldwing and just lowered the screen pushed the modular helmet up and slowed down to 40mph. Totally different and relaxing experiance. Today I went to look at this bike so I can do that on every sunny day. What price your happiness or mental health.
Costs are balanced by the enjoyment you get from riding the bike It has been a major benefit to you in many ways, so worth every penny ! It has also given many people enjoyment with your videos, so thank you
Exactly 👍 For the experience and enjoyment it has given me it is so worth it. It has been a great year and a bit and look forward to many more miles with the Speedmaster. It is my pleasure and thank you for watching
The battery on my Speedy died around 12000 miles , 20000 miles is very very good battery life i think .I also had a strange thing with my left wing mirror , unloosed itself but easy sorted when i got home lol . And same for me regarding money spent , the joy and freedom and especially the positive effects on my mental health that this fantastic bike has given me is priceless , getting into riding motorbikes has been one of my greatest decisions in life hands down , we tread a similar path it seems , hats off mate 👍
👍 That is a good point! Think it maybe time for a new battery. The current one has done a solid job 💪 Pesky left wing mirrors haha think it is due to the thread direction. Absolutely so worth the money, so good to hear that biking has helped you so much as well. Such a great form of therapy and relaxation. All the best and ride happy for 2023. Cheers
Much respect to British brothers who seem to mostly be riding on wet pavement. I live in NW Nevada, we have relatively short winters with modest snow, outside of winter, even rain is a bit of a stranger. I'm retired. I never take the bike out in other than clear, and 40+ degrees F. The conditions you guys ride in routinely would have me in my truck. We do have a lot of storm gutters that cross our streets, and it makes the traction control trigger on occasion but nothing like riding on wet streets all the time. Chops to you guys. And you are correct about the Street Scrambler (what I have). It's a great jet around town bike. If your home is a 1/4 mile up a dirt road off the pavement, it can do that also. But it's not for open road touring IMO. After about 50 miles on a highway, I've had enough for a while.
🤙 Thanks brother, it is not ideal riding conditions over here, but we have to work with what we have! Give me a sunny day all day long. I agree, that is the reason I sold me Street Scrambler. Just not ideal for longer distance rides on the highway/motorway. Still regret selling it though. Thanks and happy riding
I loved my Speedmaster when I had it, the only thing I wasn’t thrilled with was the gas tank not being larger. I rode often and long, filling the tank was always on my mind ! Absolutely beautiful bike to own and ride 👍 , I do miss it.
I agree with you on that, when touring it would be really nice to have a larger tank! Spend a lot of time in the garage fuelling up 🥴 All worth it to me though
Linking that Motorcycling to mental health awareness has been a big game changer for me. I find a lot of freedom out there with your mind focusing on the road - you can think, but you can't dwell. I don't have a speed master - I have a Shadow 750 - but very similar style of bike. Whenever I think I might have the wrong bike, I take it out on the road and just loved it. I am pleased people are finding the mental health benefits of engaging and moving on a bike.
I was at a Triumph store earlier today and leisurely browsing for my 5th bike in the stable and this Speedmaster jumped at me at the dealer! Of all the bikes, this one stood out! The beautiful color and aesthetics! I started searching for reviews and your videos are popping up! Great videos! From the USA!
What a great video! I have to agree with RedAng on your good and bad points of the Speedy. I too have a Bonneville Speedmaster and know exactly what you speak of. I love my 2018 Speedy and I do remember the good times on the bike and yes, even the the not so good, but all in all, I don't regret my buying it. My Bonnie is such an enjoyable ride and she absolutely takes me there in style!
My guy…I can’t tell you how much your words resonate with me. Buying a motorcycle (2000 Triumph Adventurer 900) a few months ago has helped me cope with my depression and anxiety. It keeps me in the moment! No time and energy for sadness about the past or fretting about the future when I’m cruising. My ultimate goal is to buy a Speedmaster and drive all over America with it, but will see how far I can get on my Adventurer in the meantime. Thanks for your reviews and passion for the Speedmaster, and motorcycles in general. Big love from Johns Creek, Georgia 🇺🇸
🙌 Thanks for sharing and so good to hear that your bike is helping you so much. Exactly right, I also find it just puts me in the moment so much and all worries dissipate. Throttle therapy 😁 That is also a dream of mine and I really hope to do it some day, cruiser all over America. It is my pleasure and really glad you enjoy the reviews. All the best to you
Love your info and content. Keep it up. Question about your parking vs. rust or other issues. Do you see any problems with paint and rust as you store your bike outside?
Thanks so much I appreciate it and really glad you are enjoying the content 👍 I treat my bike with ACF-50 so it is in pretty good condition. However I am starting to notice some small signs of corrosion on certain parts of the bike.
Wow! You truly ride hard, 20k miles since August 21' is a lot! I bought my speedy in October of 21' with about 500 miles, I've only put an additional 8k since then. I got it for the same reasons, I like cruisers and the look of this one with that British touch to it with the Bonnie engine made it my number 1 choice. I've loved it, and I found your channel because of it which I'm glad for. As much as I love it I'm probably going to trade her in later this year for a HD Lowrider ST, I can only have 1 bike lol
Yup I have made the most of it thats for sure! 😁 8K is still good going. Thanks so glad you found the channel through the Speedmaster, I am sure there are other bikes on the horizon for me in the future, but for now Speedy is great. Nice I LOVE the Low Rider ST 👌 you will have a blast with that
Glad to hear you're enjoying it , whenever you get on a bike it's always a bit of an adventure and a challenge to ride well. It's totally absorbing and friendly, so less time to think or overthink. Just getting over the doorstep is usually the biggest challenge. Good luck.
Thank you for an enjoyable and informative video which helps a great deal with making up my mind about which bike to buy to re enter motorcycling, it’s been a number of years since I last owned a bike and instead of doing what I did as a teenager getting on the road at 4:30 in the morning on my 16th birthday riding a 250cc BSA Barracuda then graduating to a variety of 500 and 650cc machines before settling on 650cc Bonnie I’ve signed up for a motorcycling open road training programme which by all accounts is very worthwhile. I’m on the island of Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean where sadly my late wife came from and know very well what it is to an enter a difficult time in life. Now that we’ve an authorised Triumph dealership once again on the island I feel more confident about buying a Triumph and the Speedmaster in particular, there’s plenty of places here to explore here from the beautiful coastline to the forested mountains, winter which can be both sunny and very cold lasts for around three months and rain once winter has passed is virtually non existent that coupled with some now excellent roads make returning to a bike very attractive. Thank you again.
It is my pleasure 🙌 Really glad you enjoyed the video and found it informative. I hope you enjoy your riding even more than you used to! Happy riding and all the best
It’s worth mentioning that the reason I initially subscribed to your channel, was because I was searching Speedmaster videos. I think I was subscriber #346. I’ve bumped into you and said hello at the past 2 motorcycle shows too! Hehe… Anyway, I think your Bonnie is excellent - I have enjoyed your style of vlogging too. Let’s face it, there are dozens of You Tubers doing similar stuff, but yours is very down to earth and enjoyable to watch. Sadly, I think I have struggled with mental health issues, but typically I have never felt that I could discuss it with anyone. I’ve not been able to admit it - which seems really odd thinking about it as I am writing this! Ironically, I work in healthcare, (the NHS) and it is extremely stressful. Just like you, my bike is my escape from the torment. In 2021, I wanted to buy a Speedmaster, but ended up with an Interceptor - which actually I really enjoy owning. I’m looking forward to you doing more camping/ travel vids when the weather improves. Keep up the good work Gus! Thanks for helping me escape! The pennies don’t really matter. Motorcycling is a wonderful place to be!
Hi John, yes I remember bumping into you 👍 Thanks for subscribing and following along with the journey for the year, great to have you along. Cheers I appreciate it. We each deal with our problems differently, I used to find it very hard to talk about my mental health but have found the more I manage to be open about it the better I can deal with it. Thanks I cannot wait for another trip somewhere nice and sunny 😁 It is my pleasure and all the best to you for 2023
Brilliant review enjoyed your video. Abd fantastic you said the price ive got a 10K buget for a bike so definitely will look and test ride one if these. Safe rideing abd thanks again for great review
Been doing lots of riding of many types of bikes, but for some reasons I always get drawn to old school looking bikes, and I’ve eyeballed the Speedmaster now as my next steed … glad I’m finding good reviews on the subject ! Ride safe 🤙🏽
Cool detailed video. I got 12,500 miles on my 2021 Rebel 1100cc DCT and absolutely no problems yet. I really enjoy it here on the Jersey shore even in the cold weather. I wish they would make an all black edition of the Speedmaster because I cannot stand chrome and then I would probably consider it for my next bike. PS. I hope you got a good waterproof cover for that bike.
Thanks so much I appreciate it 👍 Great going, that is some serious mileage! Classic Honda reliability, they really are great. Fair enough we all have our different tastes, perhaps you could swap out some of the parts for the Bobber Black parts? I do, must must say it does not go on every night!
Totally agree with your opinion on the speedmaster, love mine, getting ready to head out moto camping on the bike, but in a few weeks time, it's going to be around 36 to 38 C for the next week, the only sort of complaint I have with the bike is the fuel tank could be 14/15 litres but fuel economy is pretty good so I'm just really having a sOOk, use a multi meter on the battery if it is below 12.6V with motor not running I'd say the battery is the problem, Cheers and I hope you had a good christmas and new year....Ride safe :))
👍 awesome hope you have a great time camping. Very jealous 😁 Yes the fuel tank is problem when touring, can get a bit frustrating. Thanks yup I have a tracker fitted to the bike so can check the battery V. Think a new battery maybe in order. Thanks and you
I feel you man, I had some rough times as well lately. Many things coming at the same time, trying to knock you down, mixed in with work and personal problems..it can cause havoc. Thankfully I can jump on my guzzi on a nice day and just enjoy & forget.
Great vid ! I am a fan of trickle chargers (battery maintainers), and I carry Teflon coated Phillips head tire repair screws available online. Used them on a bike and car tire successfully. I envy anyone who can ride in winter as is impossible in Canada. Looking forward to next post, Cheers
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video 👍 Yes I think after 20k miles I may need a new battery! Have to make the most of the good weather days over winter time. Cheers
Nice and honest video! Would’ve liked to see you bump start the thing though. 😅 The room with the blue wall provides a much better sound quality than the white room, much less echo!👌🏻 Thank you for your videos! Cheers!
Thank so much 👍 haha yes shame the camera wasn't on!! 😉 O nice thanks, that is good to know. Think I should invest in a better microphone sometime soon. It is my pleasure, really glad you are enjoying them. Cheers
Hi ,beautiful bike a testament to triumphs build quality well done 👏 you for doing what you did ,didn’t let anything stop you know matter what! Well worth the money good mental health is priceless 😊respect to you sir 👍
Thanks so much I appreciate it 👍 It has been a great journey since buying the bike and look forward to many miles more. Absolutely, you can't put a price on your health. Cheers
Didn't need to watch to know it was worth it haha. I hope you have some fun adventures once the weather allows, I was lucky to get my Bonnie ('19 gold line speedy) out yesterday here in the US, I don't want to put her up for the winter 😅
@@redangrevival Absolutely! like 6° C Monday, I'll be out! BTW, mine has heated grips from Triumph integrated into the system, which shows heat level on the dash, I do recommend getting, or maybe swapping for the colder months since I do like your grips.
Enjoy your videos very much. I am currently narrowing down my list for a new bike. What’s your opinion of the handling of the Speedmaster? Have you scrapped the pegs often. I enjoy cornering while riding. Not sport bike levels but somewhat briskly. Thanks!
Thanks I appreciate it and glad you enjoy the reviews 👍 It is a great handling bike for a cruiser, probably on of the best. Yes I have scrapped the pegs on a few occasions! However this happens on almost all cruiser bike imo. Great fun bike through the corners. Cheers
Good report on the bike and a good video as usual. Sounds like it's just the battery, if the alternator wasn't charging and the battery was flat the engine wouldn't run or bump start. Enjoy the next 20,000 miles.
I’ve had my Speedmaster 15 months now. Love almost everything. Only complaint is the seat. Just watched an Ol’ Man video and he liked the seat and he’s 6’2”. I’m 5’11” and I find it too far forward for me. 1” further back would make it great. Could also use firmer padding.
They are such great bikes, I just love the whole package. I am pleased with the seat, but as the Ol' Man said, I think the suspension could have some more travel. I have bottomed out the rear shock quite a few times!
Great video again. Sorry about the dead battery. You mentioned you keep Speedy outdoors. Have you looked into motorcycle tents? You put it together, like IKEA and it really does a great job protecting the bike. So easy to put away the bike when you arrive at home. No more putting the cover on at night. I fastened mine onto a plank of wood, the bike rests on the wooden board which further secures the tent. Wind isn't an issue that way as well. Ciao Bella
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed the video 👍 That sounds like a good piece oF kit. I have a normal cover but is a right pain to take on and off. Cheers
If you have to bump start your bike again put it in 4th gear wait till you get up a bit momentum then release the clutch it makes it easy to start and less chance of your back wheel skidding,I have also suffered from depression but riding a motore cycle is the best thing in the world for to help you fight it .
👍 Thanks so much I appreciate that advice. The wheel did skid a bit actually, caught me off guard! Absolutely it is such a great form of therapy. All the best to you
Hey RedAng, Love the content. Bought a Speedmaster back in November and you helped influence that decision. Absolutely love the bike. I am curious, what windshield do you use?
Hi, Thanks so much, really glad you enjoy the videos 👍Congrats on your Speedmaster, great to hear I could be of some influence! I got the windshield from Triumph as an official accessory. Believe it is called the Highway screen.
Cool. I think you could have had all the adventures that you did in the last 18 months on your SM on any adv bike such as a Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro. However I think what stands out for your Speedie is the style and charm that you experience riding and looking at it. It is a beautiful bike, a beauty that no adv bike is ever going to have. long may your relationship with your Speedmaster continue.
I agree completely, there is just something so special and different about the Speedmaster. Maybe more comfortable/practical and faster touring on an adventure bike, however just not as unique as doing it on the Speedmaster. Many thanks I appreciate it and look forward to many more adventures in 2023
Have a great new year on Speedy Angus!... if you can afford it, spend and enjoy... Getting Speedmaster withdraw symptoms pretty bad now. Wohc Alleb ;-))
As a Speedmaster owner myself, I can say that it is a wonderful bike. I've had a couple of issues with the bike leaking oil through some electrical parts, the stator I believe. It is at the shop right now having the stator replaced for the second time, under warranty. The rear suspension could be improved. Other than that, yes, it is a great bike.
Yup the rear suspension is lacking, definitely not enough to put me off the bike though. I suppose it really is down to a bit of luck when we have problems with our bikes. Each bike has their own niggles! Hope you get yours sorted out soon
@@redangrevivalI set the preload up one notch and it greatly improved the ride. The lowest setting is really only for smooth pavement. Give it a go if you haven’t yet.
I am a new subscriber, just heard your testimony it was very moving. I’m very sorry you had to go through that dark time in your life. I think we all will have to be subjected to these times on our lives. Mine was drugs very heavy drugs. I should have died, but thank God I’m now 69 years young. I found peace in Jesus Christ now going on 35 years I believe 🤔 anyway my prayers will be with you please always remember this Jesus paid the cost for us all. In Him we can find that peace. And yes I still ride I have a Harley dyna wide glide, but checking in to buying a Triump Speed master that’s how I found your video and it really touched my heart please continue YouTubing people need to hear your story. I hope that I haven’t bored you with my testimony. Thanks Dave
Hi Dave, welcome to the channel and thank you so much for your kind words I really do appreciate it. Perhaps one day I will find that path, anything that helps I am open to. May you continue to enjoy your riding and all the best to you.
Thank you for getting back to me it really does mean a lot. If you ever have questions please feel free to text me. Oh yeah just got back home from a beautiful day of riding it makes me feel young again cheers. Dave👍🏻
@@davesmith3379 It is my pleasure, thanks so much I appreciate that and the same with you 👍 That is great to hear thats what biking is all about. Enjoy your riding
Getting old and want some better comfort for the long rides. The speedmaster is beatyfull, but i have a few questions. Do you have problems with your handwrists ? Many years ago i had an yamaha xj750 seca and it looks like your hands are placed the same way as i did on the seca. On long trips it gave me problems and hurt a little. Right now im riding a yamaha yzf 1000r thunderace and im use to go far down in corners, can you show in a video how far down it can go ? Thx for good videos and sry for my bad english 😃
Hi, overall the Speedmaster is a very comfortable ride. The rear suspension can lack a bit, but not a deal breaker for me. As for the handle bars I have never had any problems with my wrists etc... The lean angle is not great!! Scrape the pegs every now and then, but I suppose the bike is not designed for sporty riding. Hope that helps
Great to see you are using and enjoying Speedy , I recently sold my Tiger due to not using it ( I do regret it) looking forward to more bike reviews from you 👍👍
How many tires and how many chain components did you use up in 20,000 MI? The cost of having tires and mounting them as well as the expenses for the chain drive also need to be considered.
Dear Angus, Many thanks for your videos - I really do enjoy watching them. Could you possibly help me? I'm looking at purchasing a 'nearly new' Bonneville Speedmaster around September (something with about 5-7,000 miles on the clock - and preferably from a Triumph dealership). If I do, I want the bike to be a 'keeper' - I'll have no intention of selling it, or swapping it for something else. Now, I would very much like to take it over to the Continent on the ferry, or the EuroTunnel, and perhaps, once or twice a year, do tour of France, Holland, Germany, Austria etc.. I'd love to go to Leipzig and Dresden in Eastern Germany, and even down into Krakow, Poland. I'm a big bloke - 6ft 4" tall, and 92kg - but have sat on the Speedmaster, and fell in love with it. What a comfortable machine! The question is this - while you were on your tours of France, Italy, and travelling through the Alps and Pyrenees, what did you do in terms of maintenance? When the bike got dirty, did you keep on top of it - or did you wait until you returned to England, and then give it a thorough going-over? Its easy to keep the bike in pristine condition, and wash it properly, if you're in the UK - but when you're travelling away from home, it's a different matter. I'm coming from a sports-tourer background, and those bikes, with their full fairing, are comparatively easy to keep clean (and rust free - which is what really concerns me). I would be very grateful for any advice you could give me, from a long-distance-touring perspective. Many thanks Angus for your time in advance. All the best, Neil (Meriden, near Coventry).
Hi Neil, it is my pleasure and really glad you enjoy the videos 👍 I used a product called ACF-50 to treat my bike before the trips. Check out allyearbiker.co.uk/ I did wash my bike a few times on tour. But not to a great standard. Must say it handled the dirt fine and I gave it a great clean up when I got back. Highly recommend ACF-50 Cheers
I bought the speedmaster based on your videos and love it! Id just add an issue - ground clearance is quite low so if you live in a part of the world where roads are bad and speed bumps are high, this may be an issue.
Hi. To be honest, I don't understand some things. My first motorcycle was Intruder 800, bought new in 2015. In 5 years I ran more than 100000km. Without any problem (except caused by me). Original battery worked till I parked it to the garage. In summer 2022 i bought Rocket 3GT. After year and 3 months I have 33000km. Absolutely without any problem (except bags made by Givi - I think). For me is normal that motorcycle is reliable and without problems. Quality of production is much higher than years ago. So speaking that expensive thing lasts until end of warranty is strange. It must last 5-10 times more. Then, I was surprised when you said that 10000L is lot of money. I don't say that not, but I (from Middle-East Europe) expect that for Englishman cannot be problem to pay 3 months salary for the motorcycle. Last thing, I'm always freaked out if I see you driving in the opposite direction! ;) Good luck and enjoy riding!
Thats fair enough, and sounds like you have had some great bikes. I regards to salary I definitely do not save enough money in 3 months to buy this bike! Thanks and all the best to you
Seems like a decent price. And I agree: it always irritates me when someone asks me what I paid for a bike. It's for the owner to disclose, not others to ask. Basic manners. Proper rider if you're out on a bike in winter with a cold. Getting a hole in your sump is dreadful, but why the new tyres after that? I had a Suzuki B-King for 40,000 km/25,000 miles. Absolutely nothing went wrong with it. Ditto a Honda XRV750 over the same mileage. I'm glad you're happy with the Triumph.
Yup just basic manners I suppose 👍 Feels distasteful disclosing it, but I suppose everyone pays something for their bike! Yea can't let the weather get you down 💪 The oil from the sump went all over the rear tyre and contaminated it. All on insurance though. So great when you get a bike so reliable. Many thanks
I enjoyed your video but i cringed when you talked about experiencing a flat tire as I have not had a flat tire on a tube type wheel since 1965 and I don;t want to experience that again. The feeling of the loss of control at speed when the tire blew made me want to give up biking though, of course, i did not. Ride safe, and I hope your battery issue is sorted soon.😎
Thanks glad you enjoyed the video 👍 Yes that can be scary when it blows! Luckily it was slower than that and was also the rear tyre. I am thankful it was not worse. These things happen. Cheers and you
Very well said and correct! I was happy to pay the price and am so pleased with it, so worth the cost to me 👍 Thanks, I think a new battery may be needed soon.
I like the Speedmaster but not the bars ! strange as that's part of the look so I would change those . Lookin for another to add to my garage this year at some point and have looked at some used speedmaster's online but not sure yet so much out there it ain't easy to make a choice , well done on bumping her she surely isn't light . 😉👍
Fair enough, perhaps you would prefer the mini ape hangers! Haha it can be a problem, just so many great bikes out there. New Indian Chief looks great. Good luck
Afternoon RedAng - I have exactly the same problem with the battery not charging. It's waiting at the dealership in Taunton as we speak (they can't look at it until next Friday. Aaarghh!). What makes you think it's the alternator? My bike is only six months old, with 5000 miles - and it's spent nearly two months at the doctor's already. If it is the alternator too, I imagine it'll be (another) warranty repair, but I can't say, like you, it's been no trouble 'cos it's been a real pain! Though I do love it, when it behaves... Cheers, Chris
Hi Chris, that is annoying! To be honest I don't know why I think it is the alternator 😂 Actually think I may just need a new battery, it has done 20k miles which is pretty good. I suppose it really is just luck of the draw with individual bikes and how they perform. Hope you get yours sorted soon and get back out on the road for Spring time 👍
Morning RedAng - yes, 'annoying' is one word for it... 🤐 Is your's a 2020 bike? If so, even with 20k miles, I would expect a battery (& alternator!) to last longer than two years-ish. Maybe I'm just naive? (I see you mention corrosion below - it's another bugbear of mine 'cos bikes rot so much more than cars.) I haven't heard from the dealer so I still don't know what the issue is for mine. I'm obviously interested to hear what the problem is with yours! Cheers, Chris
@@chrisoftheot6272 Morning 👍 It is a 2019 model. Yes without a garage to store the bike in corrosion can be a problem! Hope you get your bike back soon
Morning RedAng - well, my news is not so good. I got a phone call from Taunton yesterday; they have not looked at the charging issue yet but have had the battery itself on charge. They also said the bike was out of oil and that I must have 'caused damaged to the engine'. 😠 The bike was in Exeter in August for a whole month because of an oil leak - they changed all the engine casings under warranty. I assume they re-filled the oil at the time, which begs the question, how can a bike lose ALL it's oil in four months? (I've done about 2000 miles in that time.) The oil light never came on, except on start-up when all the lights come on, but once the engine spins, there's oil pressure. Now, I have no idea what's going on - and I don't have much confidence in Taunton at the moment! Needless to say, I'm nowhere near getting the bike back yet. I'm waiting on another phone call today... I too have dodgey mental health (and Anna has had dreadful physcial health for years, which is especially bad this week), all of which impacts very negatively on both of us, although I am obviously particularly susceptible psychologically. Difficult times! Cheers, Chris
@@chrisoftheot6272 Hi Chris, So sorry to hear about that, especially your hard times at home. Sounds very strange with the oil for your bike, sounds like Exeter may not have solved the problem! Hopefully the call today will be good news 🤞 Most importantly take care of yourself and your mental health. All the best
It's been quite a journey with Speedy. She's a beautiful bike and your customizations have made her a real head turner. I too suffer from anxiety, lack of self confidence and am borderline agoraphobic. You and Speedy have been such an inspiration, I have started my own journey on two wheels. It has been quite a challenge and its early days yet but if it was easy, it wouldn't be such an achievement. I am enjoying learning to trust my scooter and be as confident as I was during the training. Bluebottle, which is what I have called her, is as heavy as a 125 bike, so when I can handle her happily, I can handle a bike. A Speedmaster may be a little heavy for me 😂 but so worth it for you.😊
Ha ha yes! I remember when I started, my instructor said, Now drop your shoulders, unclench your hands on the grips and don't forget to breathe 😂 Good advice, thank you😘
🙌 What a great adventure this last year has been and it has been so good to have you along with me. We can all grow together on this wonderful journey called life. So glad you have progressed and have started learning to ride, you have so many good times ahead. There is a bike out there for everyone, and you will find yours. Great name as well 👍 All the best for 2023
My 2013 Speedmaster was a joy untill 12'000 miles. Over 600 dollars for valve adjustment, new shims, etc.OUCH. Since then that is'nt required untill 20,000 miles. Your lucky there
Cost wise, look at where yuve been and have a look at holiday brochures. I'm sure yude have paid more to go on a coach trip or fly and drive trip, especially as a single traveller. You still own the bike as you say and have many more miles to put on the clock.
What happened to your jeans 👖, Bike looks good considering the conditions you ride in , and it's left out , My SX kawasaki is out side I use 2 Oxford stormex covers + a cheaper one over the top, clean it regularly but don't use it in the wet or daily use ,if I'm out and it rains just clean ASAP, No the feeling wasn't suffering with depression, but got divorced , tooka long time to get my head around life on my own after 28 brilliant years ,, sold the family home finished work with a few health issues knees ,breathing and heart issues , had the bike from new 2017 love it makes me smile every time I ride ,
It is from kneeling down the whole time speaking to the camera haha! Yes not ideal to be kept outside but I would rather have it outside than not at all. I treat the bike with ACF-50 and wash her regularly. So sorry to hear about your divorce and mental health problems, so great that the bike can bring you joy and happiness 👍 Throttle therapy. All the best and enjoy the ride
More like your battery died, if it was your alternator or regulator rectifier it would go till the battery was flat then No. If Alternator dies and battery flat it wouldn't do anything. What was it? Make me look stupid now. 🥴😁
I think you are right. The bike is fine now and starting ok, but I have done 20k miles on this battery so probably time for a new one. I have service coming up soon, so will take a good look at it
The only reason i will not buy the Speedmaster, although i like it, is the expensive price it costs to get it. Too much money from a motorcycle that made it in Asia.
I live in Europe & the starting price is around 16.000 euro. If you add colour option or any accessories you could easily reach 19.000 euro. I could buy a car with that money !! I prefer to get the Interceptor or the Meteor at 1/3 of the price & install a big bore kit later.
Any experience without something going wrong is not an experiance . All the things that go wrong are the talking point, if nothing went wrong what would you talk about and as you say when folk get involved to help, you make new real friends. "those that care" Back to the bike whilst 10K is a lot of money the type of riding you do it is not !!!! And by what you say re your mental health etc its a very very cheap cure is it not ?? Ride safe Ride well and as always watch out for those 4 wheeled things they can hurt you !
👌 hear hear, very well said and thank you! Absolutely it is often the bad points that make the journey and are always remembered. So far it has been worth every penny and I have loved it, can't put a price on happiness 😄 Cheers and the same to you, all the best
👍 A sterling career of motorcycling you have had 💪
I suppose life throws curve balls at us all.
Ride on!
👌👌 have loved every mile and looking forward to many more!
Cheers
Hear hear 🙌
Costs are balanced by the enjoyment you get from riding the bike
It has been a major benefit to you in many ways, so worth every penny !
The current one has done a solid job 💪
Pesky left wing mirrors haha think it is due to the thread direction.
Thanks
Thanks so much, that really is greatly appreciated. All the best 👌
Spend a lot of time in the garage fuelling up 🥴
All worth it to me though
Linking that Motorcycling to mental health awareness has been a big game changer for me. I find a lot of freedom out there with your mind focusing on the road - you can think, but you can't dwell. I don't have a speed master - I have a Shadow 750 - but very similar style of bike. Whenever I think I might have the wrong bike, I take it out on the road and just loved it. I am pleased people are finding the mental health benefits of engaging and moving on a bike.
🙌 Hear hear, motorcycling is so good for our mental health. Being in the elements and such a mindful activity. Take care
Hi, thanks so much really glad you enjoy the videos 👍 Yup definitely a bike worth having in the collection. Enjoy it
I am a brit living in Connecticut and I went to look at one today. I'm having it I think. Very excited to explore the lanes around here on it.
Thanks I appreciate it 👍 Absolutely, they are not perfect but just so loveable and cool 😎 Enjoy the ride
Love your open and honest approach keep the vlogs coming!
Thanks so much I appreciate it and really glad you enjoy the videos 👍 All the best, cheers
Thank you for your sincere honesty. Well done, sir. BTW, I love the bike as I owned a deep burgundy red one. My wife loved it as well. Good on ya!!!
It is my pleasure and thank you so much I appreciate it 🙌 A stunning bike and one I will keep for a long time. All the best to you. Cheers
Good luck.
Thanks so much I really appreciate that 👍 Absolutely everything about riding a motorbike just makes me feel great! A new adventure everyday. Cheers
Thanks I cannot wait for another trip somewhere nice and sunny 😁
It is my pleasure and all the best to you for 2023
Great review. btw "Jump start" is when you connect your dead battery to another vehicles battery. !! You bump started your bike, well done !!!
Thanks 👍 Ah yes, that’s what I meant haha!
Brilliant review enjoyed your video. Abd fantastic you said the price ive got a 10K buget for a bike so definitely will look and test ride one if these. Safe rideing abd thanks again for great review
Thanks really glad you enjoyed the video 👍 100% recommend considering one of these bikes! I have loved every minute in mine
Couldn’t agree more Brother! Every point well proven! My 2022 GLE is a lifetime keeper no matter what other bike I might get.
💪 So great to find the bike we love and to stick with it for some good miles. Cheers
Been doing lots of riding of many types of bikes, but for some reasons I always get drawn to old school looking bikes, and I’ve eyeballed the Speedmaster now as my next steed … glad I’m finding good reviews on the subject !
Ride safe 🤙🏽
Such a great bike I highly recommend it 👍 Thanks and you
Cool detailed video.
Thanks so much I appreciate it 👍
Great going, that is some serious mileage!
Very jealous 😁
Yes the fuel tank is problem when touring, can get a bit frustrating.
🤙 Take care of your self and enjoy the ride
A sump guard and a pyramid front fender extender is what your bike needs imho , another great video enjoyed in rainy California, Mike
I really should get a sump guard! I quite like the look of the front fender as is, does get a bit dirty but its a trade off I suppose. Cheers
The room with the blue wall provides a much better sound quality than the white room, much less echo!👌🏻
Thank you for your videos!
Cheers!
Thank so much 👍 haha yes shame the camera wasn't on!! 😉
O nice thanks, that is good to know. Think I should invest in a better microphone sometime soon.
It is my pleasure, really glad you are enjoying them.
Cheers
Enjoyed the video keep on my friend
Thanks so much I appreciate it and glad you enjoyed the video 🙌
Hi ,beautiful bike a testament to triumphs build quality well done 👏 you for doing what you did ,didn’t let anything stop you know matter what! Well worth the money good mental health is priceless 😊respect to you sir 👍
Thanks so much I appreciate it 👍 It has been a great journey since buying the bike and look forward to many miles more. Absolutely, you can't put a price on your health.
Cheers
Cold weather and run starts, kinda sounds like your batteries on the way out, have a trumpy americano, good for my head too! 👍
Yes it was well due a change! Have since changed the battery and all good 👍 Cheers
Didn't need to watch to know it was worth it haha. I hope you have some fun adventures once the weather allows, I was lucky to get my Bonnie ('19 gold line speedy) out yesterday here in the US, I don't want to put her up for the winter 😅
haha 👍 Well worth the money!
Worth getting the bike out at any opportunity, a nice crisp winters day can be a great ride. Cheers and all the best
@@redangrevival Absolutely! like 6° C Monday, I'll be out! BTW, mine has heated grips from Triumph integrated into the system, which shows heat level on the dash, I do recommend getting, or maybe swapping for the colder months since I do like your grips.
I am getting one for exactly the same reasons. Regards from Lisboa.
Thanks 👍 Yup I think a new battery maybe in order. Cheers
check the cables to the battery. may need replacing as its not the best copper used to make them.
Thanks I will take a look at that
I’ve had my Speedmaster 15 months now.
Cheers
Nice review, beautiful bike.
Thanks 👍
If you have to bump start your bike again put it in 4th gear wait till you get up a bit momentum then release the clutch it makes it easy to start and less chance of your back wheel skidding,I have also suffered from depression but riding a motore cycle is the best thing in the world for to help you fight it .
👍 Thanks so much I appreciate that advice. The wheel did skid a bit actually, caught me off guard!
Absolutely it is such a great form of therapy. All the best to you
Nice content cheers. Everyone seems have colds/flu hope get well soon.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video 👍 Yup, nasty bugs going around!
Hey RedAng,
Love the content. Bought a Speedmaster back in November and you helped influence that decision. Absolutely love the bike. I am curious, what windshield do you use?
Hi,
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoy the videos 👍Congrats on your Speedmaster, great to hear I could be of some influence! I got the windshield from Triumph as an official accessory. Believe it is called the Highway screen.
@@redangrevival Sounds good, I'll look into it! And no problem, looking forward to more of your vids!
Thanks so much, and thanks for your support over the last year 😎 What happened to your Speedmaster?
@@redangrevival yeah, I still have her undercover... just waiting for the right moment.
Once a biker always a biker!
Cheers Angus

@@LionTheHeart haha nice one! Was trying to work that out
@@LionTheHeart Few!!
nice mileage my man, i ll hit you up when i cross over to the UK in spring, similar mileage here
👌 Thanks man
Thx for your sharing experience
It is my pleasure 👍
Did you change the front tire size? It looks a bit slimmer than the standard stock tires
No should be the same size tyre. They have been changed but still the same size. Trick of the camera perhaps!
Thanks I'll give that a try 👍@@doglickgreelick

Great to see you are using and enjoying Speedy , I recently sold my Tiger due to not using it ( I do regret it) looking forward to more bike reviews from you 👍👍
Hi Paul, thanks I appreciate it 👍 Still enjoying her despite the weather
Very helpful. Thank you sir.
It is my pleasure
How many tires and how many chain components did you use up in 20,000 MI? The cost of having tires and mounting them as well as the expenses for the chain drive also need to be considered.
Two sets of tyres and two chains. Puncture on front tyre for one change though
Dear Angus,
Many thanks for your videos - I really do enjoy watching them.
All the best,
Neil (Meriden, near Coventry).
Hi Neil, it is my pleasure and really glad you enjoy the videos 👍
I used a product called ACF-50 to treat my bike before the trips. Check out allyearbiker.co.uk/
I did wash my bike a few times on tour. But not to a great standard. Must say it handled the dirt fine and I gave it a great clean up when I got back. Highly recommend ACF-50
Cheers
I bought the speedmaster based on your videos and love it!
Id just add an issue - ground clearance is quite low so if you live in a part of the world where roads are bad and speed bumps are high, this may be an issue.
So good to hear you are loving your Speedmaster 👍 Yes that is a potential down side, it is very low ground clearance
Last thing, I'm always freaked out if I see you driving in the opposite direction! ;)
Good luck and enjoy riding!
Many thanks
@@redangrevival Good to hear it didn't cosdt you.
Cheers and you
Am looking had getting one in next month my only concern is about the fuel range what is the real world fuel range many thanks
It is a great bike but yes the fuel range is limited. I get about 150 miles from a tank!
@@redangrevival I’ve seen online I can buy aftermarket one just for this bike bit deer bit am thinking long term thanks for quick reply 👍
It doesn't really matter what the cost is, as long as YOU are happy to pay it. I hope you have managed to get the battery/charging issue sorted!
Very well said and correct! I was happy to pay the price and am so pleased with it, so worth the cost to me 👍
Thanks, I think a new battery may be needed soon.
Cheers,
Chris
Hi Chris, that is annoying! To be honest I don't know why I think it is the alternator 😂
Actually think I may just need a new battery, it has done 20k miles which is pretty good.
I suppose it really is just luck of the draw with individual bikes and how they perform. Hope you get yours sorted soon and get back out on the road for Spring time 👍
Morning RedAng - yes, 'annoying' is one word for it... 🤐
Is your's a 2020 bike? If so, even with 20k miles, I would expect a battery (& alternator!) to last longer than two years-ish. Maybe I'm just naive? (I see you mention corrosion below - it's another bugbear of mine 'cos bikes rot so much more than cars.)
I haven't heard from the dealer so I still don't know what the issue is for mine. I'm obviously interested to hear what the problem is with yours!
Cheers,
Chris
Cheers,
Chris
@@chrisoftheot6272 Hi Chris,
So sorry to hear about that, especially your hard times at home. Sounds very strange with the oil for your bike, sounds like Exeter may not have solved the problem!
Hopefully the call today will be good news 🤞
Most importantly take care of yourself and your mental health. All the best
Brutal on my back, even after changing to the mid-controls.
Thats a shame to hear
A Speedmaster may be a little heavy for me 😂 but so worth it for you.😊
New Year, new start Lily.. deep breaths are important.
Shine on!
Ha ha yes! I remember when I started, my instructor said, Now drop your shoulders, unclench your hands on the grips and don't forget to breathe 😂
Good advice, thank you😘
Lol 😃
🙌 What a great adventure this last year has been and it has been so good to have you along with me. We can all grow together on this wonderful journey called life.
So glad you have progressed and have started learning to ride, you have so many good times ahead.
There is a bike out there for everyone, and you will find yours. Great name as well 👍 All the best for 2023
😘
That wasn't Great Malvern was it?
No, it was just outside of Bath
@@redangrevival Oh, OK. I only went there once to visit a friend and it looked similar
You own a beautiful and stylish motorcycle.
Thanks so much 👍
Could just be the battery's has reached its used by date, or the regulator/rectifier.
Thanks, think it maybe the battery use by date. Time for a new one 👍
Pitty you dont have at least a carport to keep her under,do you have something to cover the bike with?
I have a cover for it! But not ideal
A 20 litre tank this is my idea of a perfect bike! Rides off into the sunset😃
Haha yup would be great to have a larger tank! 👌
My 2013 Speedmaster was a joy untill 12'000 miles. Over 600 dollars for valve adjustment, new shims, etc.OUCH. Since then that is'nt required untill 20,000 miles. Your lucky there
I suppose the servicing is a necessary cost that is part of the owner ship experience. I am bracing myself for the 20k service!!
@@redangrevival With a micrometer and a little math(also the correct replacement shims), you can do the job yourself.
@@jeromebreeding3302 🥴😂 Would love to learn that one day
@@redangrevival Learn how courtesy of a Chilton repair manual . Raising the back of the bike to turn the engine over makes the job much easier.
Cost wise, look at where yuve been and have a look at holiday brochures. I'm sure yude have paid more to go on a coach trip or fly and drive trip, especially as a single traveller. You still own the bike as you say and have many more miles to put on the clock.
👍 Absolutely, and have had so much more fun on the bike. Has the be the best way to travel
What happened to your jeans 👖,
Bike looks good considering the conditions you ride in , and it's left out ,
My SX kawasaki is out side I use 2 Oxford stormex covers + a cheaper one over the top, clean it regularly but don't use it in the wet or daily use ,if I'm out and it rains just clean ASAP,
No the feeling wasn't suffering with depression, but got divorced , tooka long time to get my head around life on my own after 28 brilliant years ,, sold the family home finished work with a few health issues knees ,breathing and heart issues , had the bike from new 2017 love it makes me smile every time I ride ,
It is from kneeling down the whole time speaking to the camera haha!
I suspect you mean bump start, not jump start. Isn't it annoying when somebody sneaks in and swaps the letters around on the keyboard in your head?
😂 Yup, bump start is the one!
😎👍👍👍😎
👍👌👍
why bikes are called "she" in English?
To be honest I do not know!! I just like using the term haha
I have service coming up soon, so will take a good look at it
modern batteries are shite ;;
It did 20k miles so i'm not too disappointed! Have changed it now though
The only reason i will not buy the Speedmaster, although i like it, is the expensive price it costs to get it.
Too much money from a motorcycle that made it in Asia.
Where do you live…and what are the dealerships asking for cost?
I live in Europe & the starting price is around 16.000 euro.
If you add colour option or any accessories you could easily reach 19.000 euro.
I could buy a car with that money !!
I prefer to get the Interceptor or the Meteor at 1/3 of the price & install a big bore kit later.
19k that is a lot for the Speedmaster. Could you take a look at the second hand market perhaps?
All good info thanks!
My pleasure, really glad you enjoyed it 👍
Any experience without something going wrong is not an experiance .
