I've been doing this type of cheesedog for so long, but you throwing it upside-down on the griddle like that just helped me out 10-fold. I never knew about scoring the hotdog like that when you "fry" them, either. I've always done a long slit down the middle, if I do it at all. I didnt have regular buns, so I used New England style buns and grilled the sides after the cheese 'set', added crunch is always welcome. Thanks for sharing a kicker recipe!
I use a crank cheese shredder, kinda like the old school meat grinders. That eliminates having to put the cheese in The freezer previously to shredding it. That’s a great tip as well, but here I’m using it only when making Juicy Lucys. . I also use a press griddle with a flat surface. If u really want to avoid the mess, use baking sheet paper on the griddle. If you absolutely must use the outdoors to cook this on a griddle: I’ve a long cast iron tray, which I usually use to sear meat straight on the charcoals, which I heat it up, then use it to press the buns. That eliminates having to flip them halfway. Just because flipping makes me nervous😁
I also watch Mandy in the Making video. She has a grater linked on her Amazon link that I bought to shred cheese. Saves so much time and shreds cheese, carrots, slices as well. Can’t wait to get mine out, gonna make these hot dogs this weekend.
I happen to have some Nathan's Angus dogs, Tillamook Medium cheddar, & Monterey Jack in the frig. Gonna get some nice buns and try this! Thanks for the video. 🙏🏼🌭🧀
I'm 48 yrs of age. I am a chef, 28 yrs professionaly. I started cooking on my own around my 9th birthday. I came up with this when I was around 10. His turned out well. I'm also an OCD perfectionist, as most of us are that successful life-long careers are. He said he had the pickled jalapeño slices were "on house', either "on hand' or "IN house" would be the correct expression. There are a couple other things I would critique him on, but I don't want anyone who reads this to think im a total dick, so I'll refrain. I also agree with a few of the comments I read about adding the diced onions, preferably raw, to give more contrast to the overall combination of multiple textures in this dish, however sautéed would be good as well. And some nice diced up chewy, smoked sweetness of thick slice candied bacon!!! OMFG!!! Bacon IS King!!! Shout out to all my fellow bacon lovers out there!! You know what all can be done with bacon, the possibilities are endless!! I love to experiment and create with that beautiful slab of meat!!! I'm sure I'll get some negative feedback on this post, but it's ok, we're not all the same. I hope I get at least some positive responses, but ill read them all, good or bad. I wish you all the happiest life possible!!
Hey thanks for the comment! Yes - I had a grammar slip up with the jalapeños. I do make mistakes. I appreciate the engagement and ideas about onions and bacon, which I totally agree with. I tried to keep the recipe as a template for people to go crazy with their combinations of toppings. Cheers chef 🍻

I have always cross cut hot dogs for the frill or flat top. I don't even remember where I got the idea from back 60 years ago. I will try your recipe and I may just cover a couple with spicy chili
I fry up some bologna and add it to a regular grilled cheese sandwich which is basically the same but less expensive. Potato bread is what I make at home. Toppings are what makes it amazing
Throw your cheese block in the freezer for a few minutes before you start shredding . It makes it so much easier. Also you can use a Mandolin in the Julian mode.
That looked as easy to make as it looked delicious! Excellent video. This my first time here and I have to admit that I was distracted with that gorgeous cutting board. What can you tell us about that? Art from Ohio
I think some mustard on the bottom would help bring out the flavor of the cheese and give them a nice bite. I know you used mustard to dip it but some in the sandwich would work i think.

Plus griddles are just more fun
I also watch Mandy in the Making video. She has a grater linked on her Amazon link that I bought to shred cheese. Saves so much time and shreds cheese, carrots, slices as well. Can’t wait to get mine out, gonna make these hot dogs this weekend.
Have to look!
that looks good i subscribed
Same 😆
Thank you!!
Thanks for subbing!
Bro you were one can of wolf brand chili away from the most top tier chilicheese dog thats ever existed.
I’m not doubting you
They have that brand at my local Kroger. I'd have to mortgage my house to buy a can. 😂
hormel chill
@@Redridge07 you misspelled “homemade”
@@johnbgood52 It's $2.97 at Walmart.
I happen to have some Nathan's Angus dogs, Tillamook Medium cheddar, & Monterey Jack in the frig.
Gonna get some nice buns and try this!
Thanks for the video. 🙏🏼🌭🧀
That’s perfect!!
I didn't even think this was something you could make... but now I want to try it.
Let me know!
6:00 “You double dipped… That’s like putting your whole mouth right in the dip!” 😂
Thankfully the dip was all mine! 🤣
@@ChilesandSmoke Kudos! I am following recipe but using dill pickles and hot jalapenos. Any cooking video should only be used as a framework for your own tastes!
😮wow! ❤ hotdog 🌭🌭🌭😋
😋
Dude.
Love your use of butter.
Keep it coming.
More to come!
Wow! This looks amazing and so easy. I never thought about scoring the hotdogs! Game changer - Thank you! ❤
Heck yeah!
Am I wrong: When any American chef says 'something special' I instantly think its gonna be jalepeno based or horseradish based? lol
let me be clear, I would do anything to try one of these hot dogs. They look incredible.
Well I love to kick up almost any recipe with chiles! Horseradish is a great one too though, haha
Blog recipe right here if you're a nerd and like to read: www.chilesandsmoke.com/grilled-cheese-hot-dogs/
Looks like a mess but it’s probably delicious….add some bacon in there
Yes 🥓
@@ChilesandSmoke this is such a great idea to elevate a basic boring hotdog…
Wow Thanks ! Imma gonna make these for the family tomorrow , this chilean dog salutes you from Caracas , Venezuela.
Oh my goodness thank you 🙏
Holy moly guacamole! The ideas are endless thanks!🔥🔥🔥
Hope you enjoy!
Needs some onions
Yup!
you are missing bacon bro !
😅😂
1:50 - skip butter, use Mayonaise!
That works too!
Mayonnaise on a grill cheese are a hotdog that is just wrong in some many ways
@@Redneckofgaming ??
Saw your video this morning. For myself I’m a not a hotdog fan, but my wife is. So I made one for supper tonight. She loved it.
Thank you for the tip.
That is awesome! Happy wife happy life
I have always cross cut hot dogs for the frill or flat top. I don't even remember where I got the idea from back 60 years ago. I will try your recipe and I may just cover a couple with spicy chili
however, at least use some decent sausages with a little bit of quality
👍
And there go your old time ball park flavors.
I fry up some bologna and add it to a regular grilled cheese sandwich which is basically the same but less expensive. Potato bread is what I make at home. Toppings are what makes it amazing
Sounds delicious
Throw your cheese block in the freezer for a few minutes before you start shredding . It makes it so much easier. Also you can use a Mandolin in the Julian mode.
Totally agree
One of the best recipes on u tube.cheap and easy to make
Thanks a lot
That looked as easy to make as it looked delicious! Excellent video. This my first time here and I have to admit that I was distracted with that gorgeous cutting board. What can you tell us about that?
Art from Ohio
Thanks! It's a teak cutting board that I actually picked up at Costco. Totally a sporatic purchase, but I really enjoy using it.
I think some mustard on the bottom would help bring out the flavor of the cheese and give them a nice bite. I know you used mustard to dip it but some in the sandwich would work i think.
That’s a great idea!
Food Lion started selling the Nathan's big dogs that Sam's club sells at their food court. A decade ago i found shrimp boudin dogs when i went through Louisiana. Those both would be my first two picks for this recipe.
Ohhhh that sounds delicious
I'm making this but with home made keto bread rolls! Oh, man! 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 Best part about having a beard is, we get to enjoy the flavor and taste hours after eating it. 😂
Haha it’s so true
I'd chop red pepper really small and add as well would give it a nice crunch and pepper taste certainly gonna try this
Sounds tasty!
I'm a health food addict. But, this recipe just looks so delicious 😋 😍
Check out the latest video, it's a bit more on the healthy side
My UA-cam algorithm recommended me this video and as soon as I saw the thumbnail and read the description "grilled cheese hot dogs" I automatically subbed. We must spread the word because these guys are true heroes. 🌭
Haha thank you!!!
The amount of butter used on the flat top was diabolical
😈
this will be the only way i make my dogs for chili dogs from here on out. Thanks for sharing !!
Heck yeah!
Tried these yesterday, and they are extremely good. A lot better than the simple recipe would make you think.
It’s crazy how good they are! Thanks for the feedback
Did you use his seasoning ? Because thats the purpose of his video is to sell you his product.
@@Q_Dawg1950-jb4fu It’s definitely not the purpose. It’s just a fun recipe that can be customized in any way. I do own a small business and appreciate your attention and support.
I have been trying to figure out a way to take hotdogs to the next level. THANK YOU!!
Happy to help!
I was so confused seeing hotdog and grilled cheese in the same sentence lol then I saw the dip and cheese melting out of the bun and I was sold 😂 This looks so yummy! I'm going to have to try it for my own well being because I'll be sad if I don't lol this is brilliant!
Definitely try it!
Dude, that looks amazingly good! Definitely gonna chow down on this very soon. Thanks for the ideas. Have probably cooked hundreds of hot dogs on the grill but have never scored them but I definitely will next time.
Hope you enjoy!!
Going to try with a twist of Onions, bacon, spiced pickles and a chili dip 😍😍
Sounds great!
😮1st time here, My goodness look at that grill. I've been eating whole foods going on 5 years. I thought I was going to pass out after that first bite😮 Excellent video. I have nothing holding me back from this. I'm just afraid I'll get hooked. "Whew" I'm still dizzy after that bite. Thank You.
Welcome aboard! It's addictive, I get it haha
We put Hormel chunky chili under the dawgs then the cheese along with banana peppers. some southwest dipping sauce on the side. soo delicious. liked and subbed.
That sounds amazing
