      That's why we do it, but it's gotta be annoying when I break off into a tangent that you may have already heard, so for that reason, accept my future apologies for your future frustration ;) It's for the "new" pilots out there. I suspect you GET IT NOW, but might forget in a few years ;)

    Can't wait until i receive my pre-order. So glad you gave it such a nice review Brian. For marking CG I take a piece of black electrical tape stuck to wax paper and make a bunch of dots with a whole punch. Whenever I have a new plane to mark, I grab a couple of dots and stick them to the spot. Easy to feel with my fingers, nice and clean and no bad karma digging dents into my new plane.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      Cool idea! I think they sell these dots at the office supply store, but how do you feel them? I used to make a drip of hot glue on clear tape, but I found that they were tough to see (kinda the point too) but you could really get the plane to balance on your finger nicely ;)

    I've had this RV-7 for 1.5 yrs now and already put 25 flights on it without incident. So I just decided to enable reverse thrust on this. And while testing reverse, my prop nut and spinner blew off. I'm so glad that this didn't happen while in the air!

  • @SunriseRCAviator

    I figured you already had one to review Brian! It's a sweet one and you make it look good as always. I wasn't aware that they put a reversing ESC inside so that was a bonus.

      Yeah, we've had this one done for some time, but the shipping delays lead HH to wisely hold off on the release date ;) Good call - for once, we could share a plane people could ACTUALLY ORDER! I know pre-order is such a bummer!

    I built an RV7A QB tip up in 2500hours - one of the best experiences of my life! I had the previous RV9 from E-flite but have been waiting for ages for a decent 7 in a park flyer size and finally, it's here. I was always partial to the 7A configuration (tricycle) so mine will be converted for sure and it is very strange to me to see an RV making any other noise than the Wetterman exhaust makes so a sound module is a must for me. The only other thing is obviously a repaint in my aircraft's colors - can't wait!

    Great video and instructions, Bryan. Thanks to your inputs on the Eflite T28 and the Turbo Timber Evolution, I was able to program the RV7 for thrust reversing. The RV7 came with an Avian Smart Lite ESC and no instructions in the manual on how to do that. Apparently only kits with the regular Avian Smart ESC includes instructions in the manual. Works great now. Thanks again. Paul Z.

    I have the Commander and the RV-7, Both incredible airplanes. Commander needs 4s. RV-7 fly's and lands better on 3s. I removed the wheel covers on both airplanes and put on Du-Bro 3" slim, light weight, low bounce, wheels. Big improvement. Factory wheels are horrible. RV-7 fly's and lands fantastic in strong raggedy wind. Both airplanes are very versatile.

    Brian, I always love your reviews, you are my new top favorite RC pilot for reviews. You helped me a lot with my E-Flite Cherokee, it was way to floaty on landings like yours was also. I saw you push your LiPo forward about an inch or so then it settled in for landings much better. Mine was way to tail heavy too, it was like trying to (comically) land a hot air balloon. I ended up changing my CG from 120mm. to 115mm and now with little to no power coming in for landings it slowly settles down and just a touch of up ELE for gentle flares, but will float back up with more than just a touch of up ELE, thank you! And I notice with your RV flaps, it seems you have a 2 to 3 second delay? On all my flaps planes I had a 2 second delay, but have changed them all to a 3 second delay, less immediate flaps effect, and eases more into the new flaps settings. Again, I love your reviews, much appreciated, thank you!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks, and yeah, I'll sometimes throw in a 3 second or longer (rarely) to allow the plane to keep from ballooning with LESS elevator correction. This is usually best on planes that I don't plan to fly in full flaps...some I DO, meaning, I only really put down the landing flaps for landings...I know sounds a bit obvious, but I fly the whole flight envelope of most planes, meaning I LOVE to use flaps, both takeoff and landing flaps to get the plane to do exactly what I want, while flying, not just while landing ;)
      P.S. I love flaps ;) They're so much more than just aids for landing.

    Good advice. Coordinated flight is critical when slow in turns. Not using rudder is why many full scale pilots die going slow and nose high. Ya stall a wing and it spins in.

    Hey Brian, Just ordered the RV-7. Do you have a video, or would you consider making a dedicated video where you discuss transmitter switch logic for the Spektrum DX/NX series? Not looking for "how" to set up the switches, but rather the "why" of which switch, switch direction for on/off - up/down, etc. Something like a Best Practices video. I've never seen good instruction on this aspect of RC flying and would like to see the logic behind the selections from a trusted source. Thanks to you and Megan for your good effort, and excellent videos. BTW, the step-by-step narrative while flying/taxiing is super helpful.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому +4

      I understand what you want, and don't have one...we just have hundreds of step by step videos that show how I do stuff...but most of this is somewhat subjective. There isn't a "Right way" (best practice) unless you want to ascribe me the arbiter of "best practice" :) While that would be flattering, it would not be very fair to those who've been at this hobby for many more decades than I...
      We'll see about working some of this into our footage.

    Brian, I just received mine today via FedEx, and did most of assembly. I'm watching your video again for the transmitter set up on my NX8 Radio. One thing I noticed that all these E-Flight models the wheels are very noisy because of the tolerance's are not good. IE wheel hubs holes are drilled to big for the fit on the axles and there is no keepers to keep the wheels from moving side to side to much. The planes I use to make, I used Dubro Wheels and Collars on both sides of the wheel. Obviously there tolerance's where really good back in the day. If you had a 3/32 axel the hub was drilled just a tiny bit larger. I don't know how there wheels are made now. I'm hoping they are as good as they use to be. My plan is to change all of them to them or maybe insert a brass bushing into these wheels and put collars on them. But all this new merchandise is all in metric. We will see. I purchased 5 E-Flight planes via your links. This model, T28 1.1m, Night Timber 1.2m, Extra 300 1.3m and the Ultrix. The only plane I wasn't able to buy from your links is the FMS P-47 Radzorback 1500mm, so you guys could get the commission on all of them. But the wheels on that plane are ball bearing and they are really scale. The retracts on that plane you would love. I asked you in the past on one of other videos if you would be building it, because I would have used your link for that model also! And I do watch your video's all the way thru. Keep them coming! I really like all the little innuendos you guys do. There are very entertaining. Your wife giggles crack me up. LOL ;) One question, would you ever put a Specktrum G2 4S 3300mAh 50C in the RV-7?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      3300mah 4S in the RV7 would be a bit large, but you can probably get the CG okay.
      As for the wheel play....have you considered some grease? I don't know how you could keep it IN there, but maybe some white lithium grease would work??? I too wish the tolerances were tighter in this regard, but more than that, I want softer foam tires ;)
      As for buying from the links....Thank you Richard! We're very pleased you're going out of your way to help support us!

Fortunately I had some 3-blade propeller though they were 9 inches in diameter instead of the 11-inch of the original propeller. But even on a 3S it flew well and didn´t seem to be underpowered, but I knew acrobatics were out of question.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому +1

      No China Glue is like rubber cement that we used to make "boogers" out of in school ;) It's actually MUCILAGE, which is a plant based glue, from what I understand.
      White glue is like WOOD glue, and it would work TERRIBLE for foam to foam, but it MIGHT possibly work for a decal to foam, or canopy....but probably not...WAY too stiff when dry. My Formula 560 works great for canopies, and it LOOKS EXACTLY like elmers, but it drys like RUBBER...weird!
      When it comes to RC planes... you will waste a lot of money on glue...I hate to admit it. If you get a single tube of Foam2Foam (Horizon Hobby), it will last a LONG time. It doesn't dry out like Mucilage (hobbyking)...

      Put the rubber bands in a sealed jar with baby powder to keep them from drying out...then just don't let them be too stretched out...and hopefully you catch them before they break in 2 from dying out - I'd be lying if I suggested any more expertise than this. I'm from a younger generation of RC pilots, but do remember using and have some planes that use rubber bands to hold on the wings. I find that redundancy is key, if you make a mistake, you'll save a plane, but you can only have so many on those pegs.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому +1

      Make sure they're 100% SYMMETRICAL. If they're off by just a TOUCH the plane will ROLL. Landing Flaps will EXAGGERATE this effect, while it may be less noticeable with takeoff flaps.
      Get this answered, and if the problem persists...get your AOA worked out. You need to keep the plane flying - NOSE DOWN - even a few degrees is fine, but the AOA will shift with landing flaps.
      If this still doesn't help...move the battery forward, and see if that helps...you're going to be slower with landing flaps, so you might need to get the CG a bit more toward nose heavy to make her fly on rails slower.

      That's a SMART lead. I don't even know what we do with it yet.

    Brian. At the 57 minute point in your video, Two Mountain Lions came onto your back porch. Got a question. Can those wheel covers be removed perminantly so I can put larger diameter wheels on for more prop, ground clearance. Let me know Please. THANKS.

      Yes, they can be removed, but as for adding something else, I suppose that's up to your creativity.

    Great show Brian! Quick question: I use a Taranis X9D+ transmitter and a Fr-Sky SR8 Pro Receiver. Will reverse thrust work/be programmed in my equipment? Many thanks for any insight!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      I don't think so. You would first need a DSMX transmitter to access the menu structure for the Avian ESC....I THINK...
      ...BUT, so long as you're connected to the plane via the Rx in the plane where the Avian ESC is being used, you might be able do it, but you may not have feedback (like the screens we see) - this could lead to a dangerous condition, so I'd encourage you to NOT do it...but also, have you considered getting an Avian ESC Programmer???

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian, I just bought this plane based on your video demo. This seems nice and easy to fly with reasonable acrobatic agility for new flyers such as myself. I will use my Taranis X9D+ TX and FrSky SR8 Pro Rx that also provides a "SAFE" feature. I will look/ask around how to potentially "unlock" the reverse thrust in addition to your generous feedback. I will provide any insight for the wider community benefit in your channel. Be well.

    Brian do you have on the plans to do a rundown on the 1.5 FMS P-47 ? Or not on your radar

    Hello,
    question reg. thrust reverse:
    i've bought this plane in BNF basic version with Spektrum Avian 45A Brushless Smart Lite controller and Spektrum AR631 receiver.
    Is it possible to program thrust reverse with these installed components?
    Which ESC do you have installed in your plane in this video?
    Thanks in advance for your reply

      When you get the BNF plane, it's all set...just watch through the video...we show how to do it in the RADIO SETUP PART, near the end, since it's just the order that things go ;)

    How good is it for grass take-offs and landings (on 3S)?

      Fine, other than the prop clearance, and who wants to get their wing all covered in grass ;)

    If you had to choose one plane between the RV-7 & the Eflite Air tractor. What would you pick?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

      Tough call...
      Gun to my head, even though the RV7 is superior...I'd go for the Air Tractor b/c I love that plane!

    Nice plane, great video. One question. Instead of trying to be a contortionist why not just use the bind plug? Is there an advantage to use the bind button on the receiver?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      Just depends on how the build goes, but no advantage one way over the other. Whatever you prefer is good.
