Seriously, I have been building and flying since 1986. I was taught by a B-17 gunner and a P-40 pilot that flew in WW2. I flew with stuff people can't imagine today. 72 ghz. You just never knew when someone would turn on without checking for the channel and your hard work would die a horrible death. Best we had was duel rates and later some mixing but you flew by the seat of your pants. You had to be good to stay airborne. But here I am 70 years old and still flying but we have all this cool tech. Tech that you and your great instruction( and the entertaining funny stuff that makes me crack up) has helped me become a good setup person with a DX radio, this plane, and many others you have covered. Your flying is good too. You're darn good and you have big ones. But you have the humility to show when you screw up. Like the F-15(I also have, mine is still cherry) hitting the tree. I like the way you repaired it and got back on the horse and flew her socks off. I'm a veteran of the movie industry. You'd be amazed of where I've been. You just never know who's watching. Yes I have a channel too full of weird shit and RC airplanes, Slot cars, RC cars, and even RC submarines. The not so weird shit. Ok I'll shut the hell up but I just wanted to say thankyou to you and your wife for the entertaining, super helpful videos. You two rock! Steve Neill
Thanks Steve! Glad you're here with us. Sounds like you had to learn to fly "the hard way" :) I would have been so pissed if some guy powered up and started controlling my plane, but I heard stories of people with CB's just crashing models for FUN!?!??! What kind of psychopath does these things?!??!? Anyway, glad you're in our audience, and cool that you're into movie magic! Glad you enjoy our modest footage here, and you certainly "GET IT" when it comes to all the hard work and energy that goes into making even the simplest videos. Thanks for the comment, and glad you're enjoying our stuff too. P.S. As for being "humble enough to share" - I know that the knock to my pride will be far outweighed by the help I can share with some kid who just had his or her dreams shattered after hitting a light pole. Plus, fixing this crap is just PART of it...if you can't fix it, you won't be flying too long ;) Thanks for noticing this, and for the mention ;) There are some trolls out there who think I'm the most self serving human that's ever lived...which is very disappointing...but also humorous all at the same time ;) Gotta love arriving at a level where you can claim to have "haters" - amazing!!! Anyway, now that you got a laugh at my expense (again) I'll leave you back to your own devices...yes, your RC planes and movie props ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRCBrian we had a guy that used to come to our field and sit in his car with radios on different channels. He would talk to you first, comment on your plane (you had just built from a box of wood) and see what channel you were on. He'd go back to the car and wait for you to maiden. He'd let you get one lap around the field, turn on his radio and send you straight down. It took time for us to figure this out but we did and he was arrested. He was a flyer too. Probably now one of your hater trolls and mine. They are the type. But 2.4 put a stop to that for good. People seem to hate you more if you're successful and know your shit. They hate that. And you certainly know your shit! ;) Your attention to details is outstanding and helpful.
@@SteveNeill Had the same thing happen at one of my fields many years ago, too. But, this was with a "dial a crash" PCM synthesized radio that was new at the time where you could select a channel right on the TX. He used the Futaba version and he got caught and arrested, too. He crashed enough dollar value to get charged with felony destruction of property. He should have gotten reckless endangerment, too, since those planes went out of control and could crash anywhere.
I started in 1984 when I was 12 years old. We built models - with control lines only for many years (F2B class). Everything was very expensive. Now it is better, we have big possibilities. It is true, Brian's films are awesome as well and his tricks and tips are invaluable. Thank you Brian and your wife. GOOD JOB ! Best regards Peter from Poland
I also have been a real flight instructor since I was 19 years old. I love aviation. I just sold my Cessna 421 last year. I have flown it all over the US for the past 20 years no crashes!!. I am looking forward to all your RC stuff.
@BrianPhillipsRC the hard work shows brother! Best rc channel on the tube..Hey i want this plane bad and im gonna buy through your link..but i have a Flysky fs-st8 that i use for ground cars..will it work with this plane and the safe/As3x technology if i put a flysky receiver in it? Or do i have to buy a spektrum radio? 🤔
I usually don't watch long videos because I have gotten bored with some that's been even 45 long. I really enjoyed watching my first long video from Brian. Narration, information and build of this excellent model was the best I have ever seen on UA-cam. My ultimate goal is to some day order this Piper Cherokee after I improve my skills on the Park Flyer I have. Back in the 60's I flew glow engine control line. I thought they were awesome. I love and enjoy you're videos, so keep up the great work. Dennis
Awesome! Thank you! Very glad you're considering this plane, but to be honest, you could do it now, if you can fly a park flyer. This beauty is such an amazing and just fantastic flying machine. You will love it. Good luck as you work out your time frame, and enjoy the progression! If you can fly glow, you can fly these ;)
Hello Brian, another great video with all you need to know! Just put my Cherokee together following your video. Only confusion I have is the proper final adjusted position of the horizonal stab. Difficult to see exactly where you set it while you were out on the runway. Couldn't find anything on the subject in the manual that came with the plane or the manual on Horizon. Thanks for all you guys do for the hobby!
You mean at ua-cam.com/video/IivQrH8dn6E/v-deo.htmlsi=CsS6UPakcZOcaEYS It looks like we put ours right between the BLACK PIN STRIPE and the RED PAINT. BUT, there's no telling if that'll be EXACTLY the same on your model.
1:08:20 Thank you for showing the collet and how it holds the prop on. Being new, I didn't know that or how to loosen it if it was too tight. Worth the price of admission right there. Also the nose wheel... already done and nice to know that there were un-needed instructions. The stabilizer was easy after watching your build. And one last thing. I wanted the antennae even though it wasn't really necessary. Thanks for showing that. I love you guys. It's a beautiful day but there's just too much wind for a maiden. Probably tomorrow. 🤞♥
Thanks Wayne, and glad you're here with us. Good luck on the maiden - this is a great flying plane, but just make sure you get a pretty sunset, so you can really enjoy it like we did in this video ;)
I watched your video before I put mine together. It went great and flies great. I also had to adjust the elevator also, used full down trim to fly level. Manual did not help with the adjustment. It flies like a dream. Thanks for your help, Great camera work.
@@BrianPhillipsRC hahahahahaha!!! I'm honored. In all seriousness you have helped me so so much with this hobby. On my 10th plane and flying them all 6 months deep. Keep it weird!
I’ve been flying for years! Probably have over 60 planes. Recently I just picked up a brand new arma felony ( won it in a raffle) and good god miss molly! Rc in general is just so addictive! I would love to see Brian have this on his channel
You WON an Arrma Felony in a raffle.!! You luck, lucky ba#tard.!! Well done & congratulations to you, enjoy it.! I can at least be petty when I think about all those expensive Dboots Hoons you're going to have to buy.! 😂 lol.,,
It’s crazy you just put a review of this plane!! I was going up pacific coast highway around Half moon bay on an evening drive for my anniversary with my girlfriend and we saw these older gents flying their RC planes off a cliff in half moon bay! I looked at her and she said “go ahead pull over” and I did and they had this very same plane!
I purchased this a few months ago. As a Cherokee pilot it flies surprisingly realistic. Just has a little bit more power than you’d expect from a real one on 3s.
You're doing a great job! Thanks to your video, I chose this E-flite Cherokee 1.3m BNF Basic aircraft. And I'm moving from helicopter to plane. I support you and greet you from the Czech Republic from Europe :-)
I watched your assembly video of the Eflight Piper cherokee Being a general aviation pilot and a certified FAA Powerplant and airframe mechanic for years I have a couple of comments. First of all when you were guessing who was the manufacturer Piper was correct FYI all pipers are low wing A/C and Cessna's are high wing Low or high wing A/C have their advantages and disadvantages Secondly, I worked for a FAA licensed propeller repair facility After smoothing the propeller surfaces we would balance the prop just like you did our balancing room was completely free of any air drafts I noticed in your video that you had a ceiling fan on. That causes air currents that affect the prop. Eventually you just end up chasing your tail Loved your video Im a new RC pilot and love the flaps and lights as well as the performance. However, unlike you, I probably wont wait 2 years LOL Gary
I loved that plane thats the plane i used for my private pilots license I have looked everwhere but that plane is discontinued and it's replacement airplane as well Got any suggestions? all this technology is overwhelming 50 years ago when i was flying planes, they only came in gas powered and were controlled via a handle with strings tethered to the wing you could only fly in circles LOL
Nice video, very helpful as always. Just want to highlight to viewers that HH moved the location and orientation of the AR631 receiver. If you watch old build videos for prior version, the receiver used to be mounted on the ledge of the fuselage with the antennae facing forward, as shown on page 11 of the manual. Do not remount the receiver to match the manual unless you want to maiden nose first into a corn field 😩
Thanks, LOL!!!! I totally crashed a plane into the corn field the other day....it was Esteban's plane - LOL, and ZERO...I mean NO DAMAGE - I was pushing his lipo too far, and lost power to the motor as I was flying under the power lines - Great move Brian - LOL!!!!
Big fan of your channel. The nose wheel linkage is easy to break. Mine broke on a less than ideal landing. I didn't want to pay for replacement, so I tightened the top collar and works, down side is that no shock absorbing. One of my favorites planes.
I turned mine into a Seneca - I think it's the only one in the world. It was and still is easily one of the most reliable, stable, and rugged birds in my hangar. I added extreme-scale detail which you can do to this without worrying about it being too fragile or affecting flight performance - so much do I love it that although I designed the Seneca mod to be removable and the original nose goes back on, I am going to get another stock Cherokee and keep it stock.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Negative, I just made two nacelles from Grand Cruiser nose bowls and depron which screw to the wing with hardpoiunts (removable) and cut the nose off at the cowl line and replaced it with a shaped nose - I used two smaller motors and ESCs from HK with 2 blade props and removed the spats, I added a dummy window to the cabin and extended the rudder chord slightly, it's actually a very convincing Seneca but can be returned to a Cherokee easily
Glad you finally got one. My friend has one and I enjoy watching it fly. I love it when he does a high speed low level passes along the runway. Total drug runner passes lol
Hey Brian I use to flight RC airplanes and helicopters 24 years ago. They were all nitro then. What a change in technology.I love it. I have been watching your videos all week. Have a Habu STS coming this week. Then I will order the F16 thunderbird, F16 Viper, F16 Falcon, Cherokee 1.5 , helicopters and boats too. I retired in July this year. Looks like fun, fun, fun and more fun. Your runway in font of your house is too short!!!!!!!!!
Hello Brian, First. I really appreciate your very long and detailed video builds. I have been doing RC for decades, but have been inactive for several years. I have picked up several great building tips from you on the foam models and setting up the new computer radios. I especially liked your detailed explanation of forward programming. Thank You! Apparently I missed in this video, where you set the neutral stabilator position when setting up your radio to the model. I could not find how to do this in the manual, so I guess, and guessed wrong! My maiden flight did not go well, as I fly off of narrow rocky dirt roads here in the high desert. The nose wheel hit a rock and stripped the rudder servo, and I did not have the stabilator correctly aligned. I had to do a full slip approach to keep the plane level, but doing so, I fell short of my runway, landing in a creosote bush. I replaced the servo and installed a Dubro servo saver. In another UA-cam video, they showed where a dent is located on both sides in the rear of the fuselage where you are suppose to align the leading edge of the stabilator. I could not find this in the manual. This is where I set mine, but would you verify this is correct before I attempt a second flight? Again, thank you for doing such long and detailed videos! Regards.
I understand your question, and NO, I don't think we talked about it, mostly because we left it right were it was. I just looked at mine...there is a straight line pressed into the foam where the stabilator should point neutrally. It's on BOTH sides, and had a CIRCLE just in front of it. You might need to press the decals down HARD to see it. Get it in the middle, after confirming OUT OF SAFE, that your servo is centered....then here's my tips... 1) Make sure you're 100% sure you're centered in the CG range. This will allow you TONS of flexibility with elevator authority. 2) Make sure you're setup so you can be OUT of SAFE, even if you still use it from time to time. This will help with MORE throw when you're landing and taking off. 3) Don't bother with servo savers in the future...they won't save your servos in a plane applicaiton, in my experience. They will HELP on cars and trucks, but that's a much different application. 4) You might need a plane with BIGGER tires or you might need to modify this beauty to accommodate your road. Good luck! You know how hard it was years ago, and now it's just a matter of working back through the learning curve to get back in the saddle, then you'll be a better pilot than me, for sure!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you sir for taking the time to reply! I will double check my CG, and verify the stabilator is centered with the radio out of safe (mostly never use it) with the controls and trims centered. I generally only fly tail dragger's with large soft wheels or little UMX planes at this flying site, but thought the Cherokee could handle it. Always look forward to your videos! Regards.
Awesome! This plane is amazing, and we were bummed to find that it was back ordered, since we were going to film a second thoughts on this the day we did the F-15 the other day....not sure if you "caught" that blurb about stuff that's out of stock, well we were talking about this plane ;)
Brian, I saw in the air tractor video that the skeeters where bugging you and Carmera crew.pun intended lol. We use those Therma cells to keep em away. My boys and I love watching your videos. Thanks for being sooo thorough! Can't wait to hear HELLOOO YOU TUUUUBE again!
Glad to hear that ;) We have a few who have gotten way pissed about it (totally hilarious too, since Megan and I have always thought it an inside joke, and she obviously doesn't take any offense by it)
Good morning Brian, I tried buying the plane from your link but they were on back order so I found a hobby shop by my house that had one so I went and purchased it from them I usually purchased things from your link. “ sorry about that” but anyhow I went through the building exactly the way you did but in the radio set up did everything exactly right except for I can’t get my plane out of safe mode I have an NX8. I need help. p/s. I even purchased a prop balancer very cool so now I’m going to balance all the props and all my planes. 😉
Template replay, forgive me... You CAN, and will after you follow these steps - I've had this comment from probably 50 or more, just as adamant as you, and they got theirs working ;) Step 1) Make sure you're BOUND with SAFE SELECT ON. If you're NOT 100% sure - DO IT AGAIN, and make sure the surfaces "Dance" through the mix TWICE at power up...NOT ONCE...Once means you're in AS3X only mode. Step 2) Go to MONITOR MODE, and watch the switch change the condition of the channel you THINK is assigned to the SWITCH YOU WANT TO USE - If it doesn't change state, go to System Setup and make the Channel Assignment to that switch. Now exit the menu and verify the changes took in Monitor Mode. Step 3) Now that you're 100% sure you're BOUND in SAFE Select, and you have an operational switch for channel (I think 5-8) assigned, go ahead and pull both sticks DOWN and IN, and then toggle the switch to a count to 10 (NOT 5)....most people don't count a FULL CYCLE of the switch...so they never get to 5 full back and forth cycles... On step 9 of 10, you'll see the surfaces twitch, and on 10 of 10 they'll "recenter" again. Here's PROBABLY what you're doing wrong...it's a super easy mistake to make, and you'll immediately get it if you are doing this wrong... Switch Up to Switch Down = 1 Switch Down to Switch Up = 2 Switch Up to Switch Down = 3 Switch Down to Switch Up = 4 Switch Up to Switch Down = 5 Switch Down to Switch Up = 6 Switch Up to Switch Down = 7 Switch Down to Switch Up = 8 Switch Up to Switch Down = 9 Switch Down to Switch Up = 10 When Horizon Hobby wrote those instructions they said 5 times, so this is what they meant, but it's confusing if not elaborated upon... Switch Up to Switch Down = 0 Switch Down to Switch Up = 1 Switch Up to Switch Down = 1 Switch Down to Switch Up = 2 Switch Up to Switch Down = 2 Switch Down to Switch Up = 3 Switch Up to Switch Down = 3 Switch Down to Switch Up = 4 Switch Up to Switch Down = 4 Switch Down to Switch Up = 5 ...pretty confusing, right??!?!? Step 4) The ONLY issue that might prevent this all from working is that your sticks are WAY out of calibration... if so, the Tx might not realize you're in the Lower Left or Lower Right position, thus preventing the designation when you hit flip 10... so if this ends up being the case, which I highly doubt, then you need to calibrate your sticks and then follow back from step 2 maybe. Good luck - you can do it!
I have a dumb question. This is my second plane. First was the carbon Cub S2. 1.3. Question is this. When I bind in SAFE then assign a switch (3 position like on Carbon Cub), when I select SAFE off am I still in AS3X? I don’t see the control surfaces moving when I rock the plane. Great channel and awesome videos.
Great quesiton, NOT DUMB - AS3X is the basis of SAFE, and you can actually CHOOSE now, but it's as a rule, ON if you're in SAFE....so it's SAFE (and AS3X), OFF, and AS3X only, as I have configured many PNP's, BUT with BNF you don't have such flexibility...so you're likely seeing AS3X, AS3X, and SAFE (not-withstanding switch positions)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you so much for the timely reply. I know you are very busy. Just got back into the hobby after many years And discovered you and wife’s channel. Awesome informative and done very well. I will be using your links for my future purchases. Ray.
I've been culling the herd and was wondering when you'all gunna show us how your hanger is looking I just bought the Cherokee and was suprised by the size of rudder servo.
Cool vid as always. I have wanted one of those Cherokees since I first saw one. It looks great in the twilight with the lights, looks great in the air in general.
Thx for sharing, although I'm still a beginner pilot I love watching your videos. Respect for the camera crew and great to see how passionate you both are. Greetings from the Netherlands. 🛩
If you have an aircraft with a AR631 receiver and you want full pack telemetry you do not have to change the receiver just put in a Avian ECS which is also simpler and cheaper then replacing the receiver. Thank you for all of y'alls times and hard work and for entertaining me so well! Just thought this information might be useful to you or someone else.
Another great video,I always enjoy them.I really like this plane and your review sold me. But when I tried to order one it shows backorder. Then I saw discontinued. So today while buying props at Hobbytown there sits an E flight Cherokee BNF for $229. Sorry I couldn't go thru your link. Next time
I get it. Gotta do what you gotta do to get your fix ;) Maybe someday you can order another one, but no hard feelings. This is a volume thing, anyway...so one here and there doesn't make or break us, but we do appreciate the thought. Some that have a strong loyalty to their LHS decided easier to do a few bucks on Patreon or Paypal, which gives them their warm fuzzy - and me too ;) I'm glad people are trying to help us out! We're very blessed to have such a great audience! Thank you Kurt!
Meghan: “You’re well over the timer and I have a battery tester in my pocket.” Brian: “Taking off!” LOL! Great commentary and great entertainment, as usual!
I've been waiting for you to fly the Cherokee man. It was my first scale plane I got last year and it doesn't disappoint. 4s 2200 and it will do whatever you want. Like the perfect women. Great video as always
@@BrianPhillipsRC I'm hoping your next plane will be the fms Nanchang c-39. Cuz I want it and I'll get it thru you. I love the scale planes man with the retracts. Thanks for the reply
This is my favorite plane to fly. If you want to kick the sound of the plane up a notch, put an APC prop on it. This plane flies great on 4S 3000 to 4000 also. Best behaved plane available.
Hey Brian what’s up, hope you’ and your sidekick are well, you might want to grab a beer before reading this as it’s somewhat verbose 😉Really enjoy your channel, be nice to to live near you, grab a beer and learn from you while enjoying RC. Man II was bitten with the RC bug bad a few years ago at the begging of the pandemic and my addiction has led me to become immortal ( given your wit I thought you’d enjoy that). Anyway I’ve been mostly trying to master helis (y’a I know I’m somewhat of a masochist) and thought why not enjoy a plane and actually be able to relax, it’s been awhile . Different world right , you can actually get a relaxing effect from the hobby and with my basic acrobatics I can fake being halfway good, I think flying a plane came a bit easy for me from the start ,used to be a daredevil with my kites and the UMX Ultrix is my favourite of all time and dollar for dollar given the most enjoyment vs sorrow and expense. So I got the Cherokee, very largely as a result of this video. Kudos man, Horizon and Eflite owe you one. So Il preface this by saying that my by lack of experience “building ” these things, I was able to make an adventure of it. Wrong screws for landing gear and wings, horizontal stabilizer put on the wrong way (thanks a ton for clearing that up, I knew it just felt way wrong but as you said it’s ridiculously ambiguous). So I’m down to two issues. One is I don’t find the radio set up instructions that good being used to helis and I can’t for the life of me assign a safe switch despite toggling my B switch forever. Am I missing something? Do you have to assign a channel or something before hand, flight modes? Lastly, I’m definitely sure you understand, it’s a sad night in my rc life. After all of this I brought her out to the field today at dusk only to have the prop fly off before she even left the ground. I’ve watched the prop part of the video more than once and I’m puzzled by what I could have went wrong. Could it it just wasn’t tight enough? It doesn’t look like I put it on wrong? Sure seemed tight for the maiden yesterday. Do you have to tighten it every time? The part the assembly that tightens around the shaft (the one you tried to bend ) are well bent , I fooled around pliers trying to get the spaces right but I’m not sure if I I need a new assembly or is it good if I can tightening it again (tomorrow, it’s outside in the trunk tonight). Finally regarding the mechanical elevator trim , you loosened the screw but the trim buttons still move the elevator? Do you return the trims to center after tightening the screw? Would you do the same after any mechanical adjustment, clevis, plliers on small planes etc? Lot of questions I know but I’d really appreciate your thoughts on each. Thanks ahead of time and thanks for your channel, it’s a great and entertaining resource. Cheers 🍻
You have to use FORWARD PROGRAMMING now for SAFE Select Switch Designations. Sorry, that changed since we got this one...hence your confusion (not you, it was a legit change). Jump over to the Commander mPd 1.3m and it'll show you how to do that par (or the Cirrus SR22T, same thing). Sometimes when I'm building, I'll start to torque down the prop and get side-tracked. I had the prop come off my Carbon Z Cub SS 2.1m - that was an exciting all of a sudden dead stick landing, but it was mostly uneventful. I would just get it tighter on your second go-around. The Aluminum CAN be marred to the point where it won't move...it almost feels like it welded together!!! I've done it before...but usually can get them to pry off...but always with some damage!!! You can make a Mechanical trim AFTER you've flown it once, and only if you see something like 1/4 or better off center...but YEAH, it'll work even with trim all the way down OR up...but don't get yourself hemmed into a corner by doing that. Just when you land, make the adjustment.... ALSO, if you find you're making a huge elevator trim...check the CG again...did your battery shift? ....did your elevator feel WEEK (nose heavy) or super touchy (tail heavy) ....was it right in the first place? ...do you need a bigger battery? ....add nose weight / tail weight??? Answer these IF you have a ton of trim. So much to ask and answer so I'll leave it at this, since it's real late here, and just waiting for some food to get prepared (1:33 AM Monday morning...life of an RC influencer - it's not all fun and game (There is that though)...it's actually loads of work). Thanks for being here with us, and hope I didn't miss anything for you.
Not much class in dissing the RC Salylors, or your competition in general. It’s never a good look and this fact is well known by anyone in business or even among many who aren’t. As far as having real jobs, it must be nice to get your RC products for free and looking at your house and property it doesn’t look like you worry too much about the end of the month, like some of your viewers likely do. Also I don’t know who has the proclivity to watch three hour videos, many of which are largely comprised of nonsensical blabber. You didn’t answer my last simple question, maybe this one will get your attention. Finally you’re not nearly as funny as you think you are. Unsubscribed. Cheers.
There is an e-flight f4u that I purchased after watching your video. Comparing the f4u and the Cherokee, which one is better in flight speed or flight performance?
Not really super close in comparison. Also, they offered a 1.1m F4U forever ago, and now the 1.2m is WAY better. The Cherokee is way simpler to fly, and less fast, but the F4U is a warbird with lots of p-factor, and if you have the NEWEST one, it'll come equipped with Thrust Reverse, should you decide to activate it....Cherokee, not so much, but won't need it, since it's a slower plane, in general, but a WONDER to fly, especially low and slow. I LOVE BOTH!
@@w.j.bendellr.c.flying.1037 I did I went from this to the 1.2 mustang but tail dragger’s have The tendency to torque steer to the left just be ready for that with right rudder and ease into the throttle. The 1.5 mustang is know for that.
Thanks William - so many things could be said, and it's hard to tell what parts will be just boring to listen too, and what parts will be necessary for a newer pilot. Glad you think we're striking the balance for now ;)
Hey BP I really love the Cherokee I had a 60 size nitro with a Saito 80 4stroke engine man it was killer. I want to get this plane I'm just wondering if I can upgrade the tires by removing the wheel pants? I have to fly off of a dirt strip in a corn field lol. What are your thoughts?
Damn I love that plane . Had one in Nitro many years ago. Stick built with White and cared mono coat. It was a .40cc I put a .50cc on it . Oh year .Power !, I can see by the end of Next fall I’ll have around 4 new planes. I can’t find reloading supplies to shoot my guns. Time to rate invest in my RC hobby
I stripped out my rudder/nose wheel servo, on my first outing. Also broke the scissor assembly between the fuse and the wheel. Landing on a grass field but it seems like the nose wheel assembly is pretty darn delicate. It's no Twin Timber! Lol I ordered another servo because I think the plastic gears inside stripped. And I also think the servo is crap, so I have a metal gear servo on the way. Also that scissor assembly on the nose gear is really vulnerable and has broken. I don't know why, but what seems like the most fragile parts of the plane is not available for replacement. I'm not spending $35 for the entire landing gear set just to get a 75 cent part. I would trade away the spring part of the nose gear for something with a traditional solid purchase point.
I hear you - Good call replacing your plastic geared servo with metal gear. As for the nose gear assembly, it's definitely not heavy, and DEFINITELY not the timber, like you said. Love the plane, even with this "weakness" you've found.
Brian, I purchased this model online and it arrived in good condition. After assembly I noticed the elevator seemed a bit loose, I checked the proper technique for installing the elevator and secured the 2 screws internally and the 3 to secure tail cap. The elevator moves a little, I've flown the plane and it flies fine just a loose elevator. Is this normal???
There can be a little bit of play, but mine didn't make me think twice...wonder if you had a special issue? I LOVE this plane! I can fly it for hours and not even give it a second thought.
love this video as all your vidz, I am a long time fan of your videos. I am thinking of this as my next purchase an upgrade from the Turbo Timber UMX. Greetings from Indiana!
I have this one and it is a sweet flying model; easy takeoffs and landings. Flying on 3S is more than sufficient; I fly mine on 3S 3300mah. I didn't care for 4S.
I think it's good on 3S for sure. My plans with 3&4S planes is to typically go to the highest cell count, but on this plane, and the Cessna Citation Longitude UMX, I actually PREFER the lower power setup!!!
Man Brian, I learn so much from your channel, got me up and flying solo after 3yrs. buddy box. Love the audio,as well as camera crew...off to Muncie for a week 😉 see if i can fly my jets now 😀😎👍 Timber X helped alot
You guys are more entertaining than most TV shows. That is a beautiful plane! Looks so smooth in the air. Might have to be my second plane. How does it compare to the Twin Otter?
Easier to fly. Lighter on it's feet. Flies slower, if you want, but about as fast on top end. LED's included. Better flaps, and nose gear, horizontal stab...but the TWIN OTTER does include floats, and TWIN, which is so cool! Tough Call - Both!!! Cherokee bit.ly/3vyjdNi Twin Otter bit.ly/2OnOuBQ
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks for the feedback. You always answer my questions and I appreciate it as a newer rc pilot. And thank you for all the videos you do, I have learned an incredible amount about this hobby from you. Keep up the good work! Do you have any plans to do any Arrows warbirds from HZ?
This plane is very slow and easy flying...very easy takeoff and landing. The RV-7 is great flying, but it's a FIRE-CRACKER!!! The difference is excitement. Both are very true to form flying planes...so I love them both! RV7 bit.ly/3DqNqSd Cherokee bit.ly/3vyjdNi
I purchased the RV-7. When it finally arrives off backorder, I'll be using my 3S Carbon Cub batteries to tame it. I'm thinking the RV-7 will hopefully be a bit better on grass.
Brian, do you recommend changing that EC3 connecter to a female IC3, and if so would you on solder it and re solder the IC3 on the ESC? Great Video Guy's watched the whole thing! Thanks in advance Brian! 👋👍😃
Nope, definatelly don't change it from EC3 to IC3 unless you get a smart ESC upgrade...then it'll come equipped already from what I understand... IC3 and EC3 are ACTUALLY compatible, even though the IC3 had the SMART Data Pin (gray wire and flat pin in the middle), while the EC3 allows space for it to be "floating". XT60 (at device/aircraft end) is NOT technically compatible with IC3/EC3 (at battery end), but they DO work together with some effort, since the pins and sockets are the correct size...and ironically enough, the SMART Data Pin also misses in the middle too ;)
Decided to upgrade servos from the 330R to the 332R. When I tested the 332R they were not reverse rotation but were marked 332R on all 6 and they were all wrong. Have you had this issue?
Hi Brian, Which one would you recommend cheroke or the new timber. I know these are 2 diff models and completely flies different as well but if you can only choose 1 which one would you choose?
I love the Timber, but the Cherokee is so much more of a "scale" plane. The trouble is, the Timber is such a great value, and the Cherokee is so beautiful... Can't I just say BOTH?!?!?! Sorry - I know you want an answer, but I like them both for such different reasons!!!
I have a question🤔 I can bind my plane in safe mode and it stays in safe mode. And then when I bind it again I can bind it without safe but I can’t get safe mode the work. 🤯😂 it’s either one or the other. I want to use the (A) for safe just like you did I flip the switch 20 times and held the sticks down and in. And still nothing.
Okay, here's my "two" ideas... A) You might need to go into FORWARD PROGRAMMING And make the assignment...we had to do this ONCE, and only ONCE (then also in the Blade 230S heli as well...but only once in a plane) OR B) My stock answer for this, and it usually works for people...
Hey Brian I know this video is 7months old but I have bin flying for two years started out with mini apprentice then jumped to a jet 🙉 lord knows it don’t leave the hanger but I absolutely love this plane and I have bin waiting for HH to restock so I am getting this plane I can’t wait. My question is could give me suggestions as to how big of a battery I could go up for this plane thanks Ps I am a new channel subscriber love your videos keep up the great work
Thanks, and welcome! As for HOW big a battery. Probably 4000mAh would be about as big as I'd squeeze into this bird....but I'd rather fly her light and still have suitably long flight times.
I followed this whole video as I unboxed it, put it together, set up my nx6 transmitter, binded it and went to maiden it. Took off made on turn, plane started to climb and refused to descend. It would turn left and right and would pull up but refused to fly straight and wouldn’t descend. Needless to say the plane flew away out of my control and now it’s gone. Any ideas what could have happened or what I could do to react in that situation?
Very sorry to hear you had this happen! Were you in SAFE? If so, and with a fair amount of throttle, the plane will climb...so you have to counter this with down elevator, but you also have to turn off SAFE if you don't have enough authority to bring it down. SAFE limits the down angle, and I suspect this, at least in part, responsible for your fly-away. Did you 100% double, triple check that SAFE and AS3X was toggling on and off? This is crucial, which is why we go over it in such great detail in our Radio Setup. Was this your first plane?
Yes I did check!! Everything was good to go! It seems like once it was in the air it started doing its own thing. It was my third plane. Live and learn. I bought another one so I’m gonna go through the video again and double and triple check everything. Thank you for your incredible channel and help! I may have had my transmitter set up improperly causing something to happen.
It really does...the Cirrus flies good, but way less forgiving, and have to fly it faster and more careful on turns with the long, narrow wing chord. This plane is wonderful. LOVING IT!
Hey Brian I know this video is 9 months old but I had a look at Tower hobbies and it says they do not offer international shipping 😔. Any other suggestions to get stuff down to New Zealand at an affordable price? Cheers
Call Horizon Hobby - see if they can "find" one for you. With aluminum parts, you can't get too crazy, or they will snap, but I've never snapped one, I HAVE over tightened them to the point I can't back them off...that's pretty terrible too. If you MUST fly (And I WOULD) you can try to get another size prop adapter, but you'll probably have ot get another prop that'll work well for it. MEASURE THE OUTPUT SHAFT, then look for a prop adapter that way. If you get one that's the right length, you MIGHT be able to use it as though it were stock. When I was first flying, I would spend DAYS making orders at HobbyKing....for small crap and then I'd get bags and bags of parts I "Needed"....much of it I still have - LOL - and I wasn't exaggerating, it was 3-4 hours searching a couple to three days in a row, making my orders, and trying to bounce the price up and down to hit shipping break points - what a huge waste of time that was. BUT I learned a lot, and learned that Hobbyking is not all bad, just mostly - LOL ;) I still have wires, ends, connectors, esc's, motors, props, wheels, bushings, glue, screws, stuff like this...sitting there taking up space. It's been good to have something to help me get out of a pinch, but it took so much out of me at the time...
you can, but you'll have no elevator to flap correction...therefore, please if you plan to stay in the hobby for 3-4 planes at least...get the NX8, and you can thank me later ;) NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB
Plus, fixing this crap is just PART of it...if you can't fix it, you won't be flying too long ;)
Thanks for noticing this, and for the mention ;) There are some trolls out there who think I'm the most self serving human that's ever lived...which is very disappointing...but also humorous all at the same time ;) Gotta love arriving at a level where you can claim to have "haters" - amazing!!!
GOOD JOB !
Best regards

I also have been a real flight instructor since I was 19 years old. I love aviation. I just sold my Cessna 421 last year. I have flown it all over the US for the past 20 years no crashes!!. I am looking forward to all your RC stuff.
Excellent! Glad you're here with us Dennis!
You give such a detailed review i dont even watch other channels for plane info anymore..keep up the great work Brother
Awesome! Thank you! We work really hard to do it, and very glad you're here with us!
You mean at ua-cam.com/video/IivQrH8dn6E/v-deo.htmlsi=CsS6UPakcZOcaEYS
It looks like we put ours right between the BLACK PIN STRIPE and the RED PAINT.
Can't tell you how much I appreciate your explanations on Radio set up. Would've been overwhelmed without Brian Phillips RC.
I watched your video before I put mine together. It went great and flies great. I also had to adjust the elevator also, used full down trim to fly level. Manual did not help with the adjustment. It flies like a dream. Thanks for your help, Great camera work.
I've said it a few times already but dude......those intros kill me every time!!!! Legend.
Glad you enjoy them. I try to make them extra weird because I know you get a kick out of it!
@@BrianPhillipsRC hahahahahaha!!! I'm honored. In all seriousness you have helped me so so much with this hobby. On my 10th plane and flying them all 6 months deep. Keep it weird!
Dude, just put my Cherokee together today based on watching this video. Thank you very much for such a detailed build video.
😂 lol.,,
I would be glad to cover them, but my contact at Horizon is not "over" those product lines ;( Oh well, soon ;)
AWESOME!!! So cool!
I purchased this a few months ago. As a Cherokee pilot it flies surprisingly realistic. Just has a little bit more power than you’d expect from a real one on 3s.
Cool! Do you own it, or part of a club???

You're doing a great job! Thanks to your video, I chose this E-flite Cherokee 1.3m BNF Basic aircraft. And I'm moving from helicopter to plane. I support you and greet you from the Czech Republic from Europe :-)
NICE! Thanks!
Brian Phillips, you are not right! Which is one of the reasons I enjoy your channel.
LOL ;)
Thanks Gary! Cool details, and very true about the ceiling fan!!! I'll try to remember that next time!
I love my Cherokee, such a great plane. Landings are awesome too with how nice it floats in!
We need to make a pond.........so bad
@@BrianPhillipsRC sacrifice the bowl?
Got the Cherokee, balanced the prop tightened the mount screws and still have some vibration noise.
Check your spinner / Check the prop adapter
Love your videos guys! Y'all crack me up! Think this plane is gonna go in the hanger soon as i make room. Keep up the great work
Good call! It is such a great flyer!
Bryan you have so much experience with different planes. I think it is about time for some my favorite videos!!!!
Thanks!
10:43, I think it's the best pass ... ;-)
Just bought ... after watching this video.
Best regards
Peter
It is amazing looking in the air! That slight slip was beautiful!
Big fan of your channel. The nose wheel linkage is easy to break. Mine broke on a less than ideal landing. I didn't want to pay for replacement, so I tightened the top collar and works, down side is that no shock absorbing. One of my favorites planes.
I see... Thanks for the tip!
SWEET!!! Did you get TWO and make it that way???
It looks so good, and love the way she handles. Maybe you need one for a formation flight with your buddy???
Awesome vid, I’m loving mine so far. By far the best RC reviewer out there
Wow, thanks! Glad you're here with us, and YES, this plane is a favorite!!! bprc.me/Cherokee
As it got darker the lights look great!
Totally!!!
Oh boy, you're in for a lot of fun! Glad you're here with us, and hope to help get you back up to speed in no time! Congrats on the retirement!!!
Just purchased this through your link Brian. It's on backorder, but I won't be flying it until spring
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO But at least in spring, you will find out just how awesome she really is!
Thanks Craig!
Regards.
Bout Time you experienced the beauty of the Cherokee! one of my all time favorite night flyers

Yes. I am loving this plane.
It is a GREAT plane!!!!
I’ve learned so much from this video, I was gonna buy this but it’s on backorder. This exactly why I like your channel, because you learn me good 👍
Awesome! This plane is amazing, and we were bummed to find that it was back ordered, since we were going to film a second thoughts on this the day we did the F-15 the other day....not sure if you "caught" that blurb about stuff that's out of stock, well we were talking about this plane ;)
Still waiting for my Draco that will ship in Sept. September is about over. 😭😭😭
Thanks!
Very nice, I'll have to put this one on my list. I like the clear canopy and top loading battery and scale detail.
Me too - so long as it's strong enough, I love clear windscreens.
i love the way he calls Megan "The Camera Crew"
Glad to hear that ;) We have a few who have gotten way pissed about it (totally hilarious too, since Megan and I have always thought it an inside joke, and she obviously doesn't take any offense by it)
BOSCH Dishwashers are awesome... and quiet too.
Interesting!
You CAN, and will after you follow these steps - I've had this comment from probably 50 or more, just as adamant as you, and they got theirs working ;)
Step 1) Make sure you're BOUND with SAFE SELECT ON.
Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
Switch Up to Switch Down = 5
Switch Down to Switch Up = 6
Switch Up to Switch Down = 7
Switch Down to Switch Up = 8
Switch Up to Switch Down = 9
Switch Down to Switch Up = 10
When Horizon Hobby wrote those instructions they said 5 times, so this is what they meant, but it's confusing if not elaborated upon...
Switch Up to Switch Down = 0
Switch Down to Switch Up = 1
Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
Switch Up to Switch Down = 2
Switch Down to Switch Up = 3
Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
Switch Up to Switch Down = 4
Switch Down to Switch Up = 5
...pretty confusing, right??!?!?
Step 4) The ONLY issue that might prevent this all from working is that your sticks are WAY out of calibration... if so, the Tx might not realize you're in the Lower Left or Lower Right position, thus preventing the designation when you hit flip 10... so if this ends up being the case, which I highly doubt, then you need to calibrate your sticks and then follow back from step 2 maybe.
Good luck - you can do it!
Brian thanks A million for all the information, you’re the best. Now it looks like I’ve got some work to do, thank you very much. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love this guy's energy!
Thanks Jean!
Silliest build video ever! Loved it!! You two make the best RC videos. Especially love the radio set up information. Cornholes away!
Ray.
I've been waiting for you to review this. A real looker!
Totally! I have been wanting to do this plane for literally YEARS, and it lived up to all my expectations!!!
I've been culling the herd and was wondering when you'all gunna show us how your hanger is looking I just bought the Cherokee and was suprised by the size of rudder servo.
it's coming in a few days...video is done.
One of the best looking plane ... Love it.
It really is!
OUTSTANDING Review! You two are the best!
Thank you kindly!
Cool vid as always. I have wanted one of those Cherokees since I first saw one. It looks great in the twilight with the lights, looks great in the air in general.
Right on - Agreed!
Thx for sharing, although I'm still a beginner pilot I love watching your videos. Respect for the camera crew and great to see how passionate you both are. Greetings from the Netherlands. 🛩
Awesome, thank you!
I need this plane I love the slow flight since I’m new. And I learned in a Cherokee.
Cherokee is amazing - you DO need it! Cherokee bit.ly/3vyjdNi
Nice plane just got one just be careful tightening the prop on the adapter will break if you over tighten it
I suspect it might. I accidentally broke the spinner on my Edge 540 when I over tightened the screw in the middle ;(
@@BrianPhillipsRC yeah just a bit weak but the plane looks great

LOL
Brian Phillips you also can get the Flybear FX 802 it cost around 40 it is so fun to fly.
We've done some of these Flybear videos :)
Best intro ever!
Thanks!!!
I bought a older balsa kit, running a os .46 want to run a os 4cyc .61 for the sound of the motor
Cool!
Depends on what Avian ESC you're talking about, just FYI - The smaller ones, YES, but on the HUGE ONES, like in the NEW Viper, not so much ;)
Another great video,I always enjoy them.I really like this plane and your review sold me.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks Spike ;)
I love Your long videos i watch them over and over again Big Thanks from Sweden //Pär
I'm very glad you do!!!!!!! Now can you train the rest of our audience to watch them over and over again ;)
Thanks for being here with us parsside!
I've been waiting for you to fly the Cherokee man. It was my first scale plane I got last year and it doesn't disappoint. 4s 2200 and it will do whatever you want. Like the perfect women. Great video as always
YES ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I'm hoping your next plane will be the fms Nanchang c-39. Cuz I want it and I'll get it thru you. I love the scale planes man with the retracts. Thanks for the reply
It's the c-6 my bad
I'm going to take a good look. Compared to the Eflight sr22, which one is faster and has better flight characteristics?
This is my favorite plane to fly. If you want to kick the sound of the plane up a notch, put an APC prop on it. This plane flies great on 4S 3000 to 4000 also. Best behaved plane available.
I love the way she flies, and makes the pilot look like a superstar rc pilot!!!
Realy nice plane. love your videos. P.S. You have so sweet cats😍
Thanks! The cats are amazing ;)
Love this plane such a solid flyer!!! And very easy to build and fly this was one of my fist low wings flown
totally!
Yeah this is my first low wing flyer to. So now maybe I can get into some warbirds. 🤔
@@w.j.bendellr.c.flying.1037 I did I went from this to the 1.2 mustang but tail dragger’s have The tendency to torque steer to the left just be ready for that with right rudder and ease into the throttle. The 1.5 mustang is know for that.
Brian i run my 4s 3300s all the way to the canopy front keyway notch and it flys spectacular there!
Thanks James - Love this plane!!!
This plane is awesome and as always you do a good job at explaining everything and a great flight
You can do anything you set your mind to, but I know that dirt strip might be tough...can you roll a section to make her real smooth?
Audio is very much improved.
So glad to hear!!! We've been real happy with the Rode Mics!
Yeah, plus that stuff has gone up "TO THE MOON" even worse than RC stuff!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Holy crap , I should have read what my phone spelled out. 😳 Good translation. 👍
When I was a kid we had a Piper aircraft plant not far from where I live. It closed many, many years ago though.
Cool, but too bad they closed
Hey Brian. What other prop can you recommend since the factory one is still on back order? Any 12x8?
1) amzn.to/3OhKGw4
2) amzn.to/37VTW8m
3) amzn.to/3uXM9QJ
I'd go with the FIRST one, if you like it ;)
Beautiful. Just beautiful!
Thank you very much! What a sweet plane!!!
I stripped out my rudder/nose wheel servo, on my first outing. Also broke the scissor assembly between the fuse and the wheel.
Landing on a grass field but it seems like the nose wheel assembly is pretty darn delicate. It's no Twin Timber! Lol
I ordered another servo because I think the plastic gears inside stripped.
I always wanted this one, thinking I would add a 3 blade prop for more clearance to the ground
Not a bad call with 3 blade prop. I like the idea!
Now if I did want to go to a three blade prop! How would I go about it to get it right? Troubleshoot🤔
This plane is sweet. It's so dang good on a calm evening at sunset!!!!
How is the nose gear on this plane? For grass landings?
You can land it slow, so you should be able to land on the mains and then let it plop down.
Man Brian,
I learn so much from your channel, got me up and flying solo after 3yrs. buddy box.
Love the audio,as well as camera crew...off to Muncie for a week 😉 see if i can fly my jets now 😀😎👍
Timber X helped alot
Good luck Crazy Aces!!!! Good luck out there!!!

What's the difference in flying characteristics between this plane and the RV-7 1.1m?
This plane is very slow and easy flying...very easy takeoff and landing. The RV-7 is great flying, but it's a FIRE-CRACKER!!!
The difference is excitement. Both are very true to form flying planes...so I love them both!
RV7 bit.ly/3DqNqSd
Cherokee bit.ly/3vyjdNi
XT60 (at device/aircraft end) is NOT technically compatible with IC3/EC3 (at battery end), but they DO work together with some effort, since the pins and sockets are the correct size...and ironically enough, the SMART Data Pin also misses in the middle too ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you Brian!👍😃
There's been many reviews about hearing vibration noise during flight with 4S. Does the prop need balancing or is the sound from the nose gear/wheel?
Might be the spinner too, but usually the prop.
A) You might need to go into FORWARD PROGRAMMING And make the assignment...we had to do this ONCE, and only ONCE (then also in the Blade 230S heli as well...but only once in a plane)
OR
B) My stock answer for this, and it usually works for people...
You CAN, and will after you follow these steps - I've had this comment from probably 50 or more, just as adamant as you, and they got theirs working ;)
Step 1) Make sure you're BOUND with SAFE SELECT ON.
Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
Switch Up to Switch Down = 5
Switch Down to Switch Up = 6
Switch Up to Switch Down = 7
Switch Down to Switch Up = 8
Switch Up to Switch Down = 9
Switch Down to Switch Up = 10
When Horizon Hobby wrote those instructions they said 5 times, so this is what they meant, but it's confusing if not elaborated upon...
Switch Up to Switch Down = 0
Switch Down to Switch Up = 1
Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
Switch Up to Switch Down = 2
Switch Down to Switch Up = 3
Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
Switch Up to Switch Down = 4
Switch Down to Switch Up = 5
...pretty confusing, right??!?!?
Step 4) The ONLY issue that might prevent this all from working is that your sticks are WAY out of calibration... if so, the Tx might not realize you're in the Lower Left or Lower Right position, thus preventing the designation when you hit flip 10... so if this ends up being the case, which I highly doubt, then you need to calibrate your sticks and then follow back from step 2 maybe.
Good luck - you can do it!
Brian, love this plane! it's on my list, Thanks
It is great! Get it ;)
Hey Brian, would you recommend this Cherokee or the 1.1m Trojan as a second/third plane? I learnt on the Sport Cub S and then the older Delta Ray.
Just replied to your other question ;) Both - LOL
Hey Brian I know this video is 7months old but I have bin flying for two years started out with mini apprentice then jumped to a jet 🙉 lord knows it don’t leave the hanger but I absolutely love this plane and I have bin waiting for HH to restock so I am getting this plane I can’t wait. My question is could give me suggestions as to how big of a battery I could go up for this plane thanks
Ps I am a new channel subscriber love your videos keep up the great work
Thanks, and welcome!
Brian, could you do a video on this plane, and putting a Smart ESC in it?
Also, will you do a review of the new Cirrus SR22?
I don't have any SMART ESC's - I wonder if we'll get a V2 on this beauty!!??!?
@@BrianPhillipsRC (hint, hint 🤔🤔)

I loved that video ;) Watched it all from 7:00 time stamp - LOL
Reminds me of the blades on my old tractor
The wings?
The Cherokee rocks. Flys better than the cirrus in my opinion! But I still love the cirrus. It’s a cool plane.
Cheers
Really sorry to hear. I was told differently ;(
How tight did you apply the nut on prop?
My prop adapter snapped , now on back order😒
BUT I learned a lot, and learned that Hobbyking is not all bad, just mostly - LOL ;)
I still have wires, ends, connectors, esc's, motors, props, wheels, bushings, glue, screws, stuff like this...sitting there taking up space. It's been good to have something to help me get out of a pinch, but it took so much out of me at the time...
Thanks!

Nice!!! I will wear them in the winter.
Why this plane discontinue producing?
It's not discontinued, just back order. It's out of stock.
