DUDE!!! You and Heidi just keep crushing it! I don't know what amazes me more: your insane flying skills, or Heidi's incredible work keeping up with small things darting about the sky! Seriously, great job by both. I'm not too much into this sort of plane, but I'll tell you what, if I were, you'd have sold me! I really enjoy the set-up page...great work there as I think that not many electric RC pilots today actually understand the old "watts per pound" rule. That said, over 100 watts per pound on 3s is really pretty insane! Anything over 100 easily puts it into the sport class, and it shows when you fly it! Back in the day, 3D was generally around 150 and up, and if this thing makes 223 on 4s, that's even crazier!!! Keep up the great work team, and all the best from your friend in the Mojave!
Hey Brother John! Thanks man we appreciate it! Yeah we thought we'd throw something out there some may not know about. Its funny now man...3D planes start at about 200 watts/lb and usually have a good bit more. My 85 EF Edge has 225 and my 75 3DHS Edge has 267! Ridiculous power. With the 75 I'm hovering at 45% throttle and can punch out at 55%...and at WOT accelerate to full speed vertically. This little RV is a pocket rocket!

Thanks for your video, I’m a 73 years young guy that all his life was passionate about aviation, but for reasons that I’m not going to expose, I just started the RC flying in 2020, so I’m practically new in the hobby. I like how you give some always-interesting history of the full scale airplane, upon which the model is based! And the signature smooth Scale takeoffs and landings; which IMO are the best indicator of a Pilot's skills. If I had other than Bush Plane takeoff and landing conditions, I'd like to fly that... And as Justwingit said, GREAT Camera work!!!

Thanks! Great flying little plane. It gets more sensitive as you move the cg back, but it still stays stable. Just adjust the expo to counter the extra sensitivity and you're golden.

@@ModelAV8RChannel well on a very selfish point -as you know my site only has grass - so seeing grass ops really does help.. but that is as I say a selfish view 🙄 I am taking a day off work on Friday 29th - going down to the post office to post the envelope...
Martyn that isn't a selfish view at all...that is what everybody watches reviews for. Many folks may have interest in the same plane, but not always for the same reasons. I think the hope for everybody when they watch a review is that their particular questions about the plane will be answered.
I put a small dab of synthetic brake caliper grease on the main landing gear axles and wheel hub holes and it completely eliminated that chatter it has when rolling.

Another nice one AV8R...and Heidi. I've thought about getting this as a good all around flyer. I'm just going to wait a bit to see what the "mini" Flex RV-8 review is like :). The prices are close enough to go either way.

Thanks AirHammer!! We really appreciate it! Its a great, capable plane...but the Flex will probably do the high performance stuff/3D better...its what they do. That said I have 3D/XA planes...I kind of like the scale possibilities of this one with really decent performance when I want to get crazy with it. More of a wolf in sheep's clothing.

I’ve had mine for a couple of months now and I’m finding that this is my go to plane over my viper 70mm. It’s just fun to fly. Fast or slow.... (and put some grease on those axles)

My LHS got a few of these in a week or two back. Been eyeballing it, but my garage says I have enough planes.
I've always loved the Vans birds. And at 1,1m it's perfect for my small car.
Maybe I was "lucky" but I made a bellylander of my timberX after a wing rocking attempt at a harrier too close to the ground yesterday. Got quite mushy in the front of the fuse too. After repairing I'm pretty sure I need a new fuse to get it to fly and land good again.
Got me thinking about the rv-7 again. Maybe it's time to do some sports/scale flying again?

could you do a video explaining how you do some of these manoeuvres please? I'm trying to advance into new one away from just your bog standard rolls, loops Cubans, inverted etc. your videos are good quality and your voice is nice and clear. think quite alot of us would appreciate a tutorial from you 👍🏾 cheers Mark 🇬🇧
Thanks for watching and thanks very much for the kind words Mark. The 3D stuff is really hard to teach. There is an old channel on YT called "bonedoc 1" . He goes in to great detail as to how to do all the advanced 3D maneuvers. So much of it is timing and comfort with rudder and throttle modulation. I learned mostly from watching the transmitter view videos Joe Smith did (he used to be a sponsored pilot for 3D Hobby Shop). He shows his transmitter inputs in sync with the plane doing the maneuver. I practiced the movements on my transmitter while visualizing a plane doing it, then started practicing on a simulator (Real Flight), and finally practiced with my plane. It takes a lot of time and practice. We plan on some tutorials in the future, but 3D is a tough one to tackle. Bonedoc's videos are old now, but to be honest they are still very relevant. I couldn't cover each maneuver any better than he did...its a long series of tutorials (one video for one or two maneuvers at a time)...check them out. Hope this helps you my friend!

Oil them thar wheels, makes a big difference. Just bought one ever so slightly used for half price, way to go. Currently fitting floats from a Timber, not too difficult, float flying next week. This plane is a natural for floats, pity HH didn't set it up for them from the factory. Love this plane so far. Cheers SEQ Australia.

@@ModelAV8RChannel Just found out that this plane is proly made by FMS with E-Flite electronics. Explains a lot as many features reminded me of some of my FMS jobbies. Flooding here now in South East Qld so maybe no dam flying next Tuesday. One was a 1.5 Timber in L4 USAF livery, an FMS Super EZ {a wonderful all round plane} and an FMS Cessna 182 custom fitted with Timber floats which is a bit boring and slow, bit like me haha. The RV7 is 99% complete now but our area is presently being ravaged by floods so it may not fly off the dam till next week now. Thanks for the reply. Wow AV8R; that was some awesome show of skill on that tiny aero-chine! I'm only now getting into elect pwr because of a buddy's insistence, have flown nitro since the 60s when I started in C/L combat. Started designing my own on 18" wide butcher paper in the 70s and have been a builder all these years. So that should give you some idea of my skillset lvl... I've watched many different RC'rs on youtube and until now have never seen such a grade and/or skillset in any other flyer that equals yours! You are some awesome flyer Adam! I could hear the wind in the video device as you took off the first time, awesome good skillset Adam, I cannot say that enough Sir, where are you located with such land/tree topography along with such wind along your flight-line Adam? I got to share with you Sir; you bring tears of joy to mine eyes and awesome warm feelings within my heart as I watched you put that little ace through its maneuvers, awesome flying Sir, just awesome!

Something else you should check out...look up Jace Dussia on youtube. As far as rc freestyle/aerobatics...he is the best rc pilot in the world...you will be amazed. As a pilot...I'm not on the same planet as that young man. I can't even comprehend some of the things he does.

Awesome video, I have 3 flights on my RV-7 so far. It is my first low wing and I am no where near the pilot you are but it is a fun plane. Did you have any problems getting the prop tight? The knurled area on the motor shaft is pretty smooth and the spinner base plate did not grab it well. I ended up getting a finger in each vent hole in the cowl front to pinch the motor can and hold the prop, and then had my son tighten the prop nut. No problems on 4s yet but the spinner does not grip the motor well like on my Maule M-7
That is a common problem with spinners. Fortunately it is easily fixed.
Cut a small disk of drywall sanding screen and put behind the spinner base plate.
Some people have used two…It has always worked with just one for me.
Way easier than…..ah….fingering the vent hole……..so to speak.

Thanks man for the kind words and supporting us! Michael's suggestion works...you can also sand the back of the spinner back plate to roughen it up and a lot of times that will do it. Remember these prop adapters are aluminum...so good and snug, but don't torque them to much. They can break or worse crack and fly apart during a run up. The rotation of the prop lends it self to keeping the nut tight.
Ditch that 3 blade and put a 10x10 APC and it will go faster than some EDF's.
I'll bet! Its a rocket stock as it is but with a speed prop...woah! Thanks for watching!
What did did you think of the AS3x gain setting as it came from Horizon? I plan to get the BNF version - take out the AR620 and sell it and replace it with an AR637 so I can have telemetry so will need to copy the gain setting to the new RX. Great video and like all the details.
Hey Ted thanks for watching and the kind words! Ted ours was the PNP...we installed the AR620...so not sure about the gain settings with a BNF...which will have an AS3X/SAFE rx already in it. That said I have seen a very good pilot flying the BNF...and it looked rock solid. Didn't appear to have too much gain...which to me is good. The only issue you may run into with a AS3X rx is some of them won't let you crank the servo travel up. They are set that way to avoid letting the throws get high enough to make the gain setting over correct (due to the extra throw/travel) which can cause oscillation at high speeds. This little bugger can move at full throttle on 4s. Of course if you are not trying to get the throws where we put them for the extreme set up this is a non issue. Its a great little bird...my bet is you'll love it right out of the box.

@@ModelAV8RChannel I have that issue with my T-28 I increased the Elevator throw on the horn and now at WOT it bobbles up and down. the AS3X onboard doesn't know what to do ha ha.. I enjoy the BNF planes just so Angela can fly them around in SAFE mode.

Just brought this one home yesterday. Got a question buddy. In your opinion, do you think this wing will have the tendency to tip stall while coming in slowly with flaps activated.
Thanks for watching! Congrats on getting one...awesome lil bird. It is pretty rock solid. In our testing it will drop a wing in a deep stall like a lot of planes, but the angle of attack is past the three point landing position when it does...so in theory you should be fine. That said a big enough screw up can make bad things happen with anything...lol. I would get it up high and test it yourself (any new plane really)...stall it a few times clean and with the flaps down so you can see and get a feel for what it is going to do. Recovers very easy...neutralize the controls, ease power in as you ease it out. You'll like this one...fun plane to fly. Happy flying!
@@ModelAV8RChannel I've had it out twice now. Incredible little civilian sports airplane. I have my 4s 2200mah hanging off the back of the battery board also. Better control there. I noticed even before the first flight that the plastic L/G mount was not glued in well. It was actually coming loose from the foam undercarage. After the first outing, I realized that it needed to be mounted correctly. I wiggled the entire plastic mounting bracket off the airplane and reglued it back in with 30 minute Epoxy, thickened up with cooking flour. Now I have bulletprof L/G. I also removed the hard factory wheels and installed 3" Du-Bro narrow foam wheels. Softens the landings and no longer sounds like a plastic Home Depot bucket full gravel dragging down the runway. I would have never messed with it if I didn't see so much potential in this airplane. Lots of fun. Lots of Power. Provided I don't get over confident with it and burry it into the ground, it should last me many years and hundreds of flights. Definitely a go to airplane. You have great videos Brother.

Adam, would you recommend a 4S 3200mAh 50C G2 for this plane? I have 6 of them and just wondering. New to electric and flew nitro since the mid seventy's. Just started with the electric with a 25 year Hiatus! Can't get on the ground to start up and fill nitro anymore. Thank you in advance! BTW really nice flying!!!! ;)

Might not slow down quite as well as with the lighter battery but still should get slow enough. Just make sure you get her up a ways and stall test it so you know what you're working with. @@ModelAV8RChannel I was wondering if I would burn up the ESC with the bigger battery pushing to much power Thur it. I bought 6 of the 4S 3200 G2’s and was planing on using them in the E-Flight Extra 300, but everybody seems to be using the 4S 2200, which I have 4 of them. It looks like I will have to buy more of 2200. I bought the E-Flight T-28 1.1m and that takes the 4S 2200 on the performance side. I’m hoping for longer flight times besides the performance. @@RichieRich980215 Richard it will make a bit more power, and thus pull a bit more amps, but not a significant amount. Usually the difference in power in a case like that is negated by the extra weight of the larger battery...so kind of a wash. Not talking about big numbers really and the amp draw unloads quite a bit in flight. It should handle any 4 cell regardless of milliamps. You should be fine with the 3200's. You will get a longer flight time with them.
Since you are getting into electrics I would consider buying a watt meter. We are going to do a video soon about the uses and benefits of them.

@@ModelAV8RChannel Thanks for your response. Because the RV-7 fly's so obediently, it gave me a since of false security. I felt like I could do anything with it. Until I hurried it nose first right into the dirt. I absolutely hated myself. Lucky for me I ran across a used one at the field for $60. Had to grab it. This time I'm going with the 3s 2200 batteries instead of the 4s. Should keep me more humble, and it'll come in a little slower. I compair the RV-7 to a Porsche with wings. Great video.

I just bought this plane. I am an advanced flyer. Can the 3 axis stabilization system be totally turned off or is it only the Safe Select or basic 3 axis stabilization. I want to fly it with no stabilization at all.
Hello John. I'm not sure in this case. Our RV-7 was the PNP so we used a regular sport rx with no gyro. On some BNF models you can turn it all off with a computer or your phone with the use of an app, but most of the BNF's you can't as they have a very basic AS3X/SAFE rx. There is no way to do it regardless of the rx with just the transmitter. You can always pull out the AS3X rx and put in a regular one, then sell the AS3X rx. I've done that several times.

I'm not certain of this, but I don't think it would fit. If it did I think it would affect flight performance quite a bit. It flies fine on a 3200, but better on a 2200. Hope this helps...happy flying!
