    Just ordered this via your amazon link. I appreciate your thorough videos guys; from the building, flying, binding, and explaining the details, it helps a lot to make a decision. This is my third plane purchase in about 10 days using your link because you both do such an awesome job here.

    Ok Brian, I have said in other postings I was finally getting back into the hobby. I am down loading manuals and UA-cam reviews of all of the planes I own. Here's another one! This makes 5 straight reviews in a row. Amazing thanks for the great reviews and help.

    Just want to send out a big thanks to you Brian and camera crew (Megan) for being such great ambassadors for this hobby. I started watching your channel about 2 months ago and have learned so much from your videos. Every purchase I have made comes from your recommendations and in two months time I have added 3 Planes, 4 Helis and an NX6 Transmitter to my new fleet. No where near your numbers I'm sure, but give me time... My only concern is that my friends and family may be planning an intervention!!! Appreciate all you do and thanks again! Happy Flying!

    You talked about this plane not having flaps but in truth it really doesn't need em because it's so light, I bet the battery weighs more than the plane. I love playing with flaps so I added em just because and I used YOUR -- FMS Ranger -- video and explanation to make it happen. If any of you guys want to add flaps to whatever plane you have just watch the -- FMS Ranger -- video and you can see the end result of what he did and you can take it from there. Mine turned out really good and I'm not a craftsman at all.
    It just adds another dimension to your flying experience to do something like the flap addition and it's fun and easy too. And I know you're thinking - ~HELL~ I'm not cutting a chunk outta the wing of the plane I just bought, but measure twice and cut once.
    Brian, thanks for adding so much to the RC hobby.

    Could not have done it without this video!! One thing I missed was that the rates have to be set to high/100% to get the safe mode switch assignment to work...I tried toggling the switch a bunch of times when I was in low rates and it didn’t work until I switched it to high rates.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому

      Good point...make sure you're in HI RATES
      Not 100% sure if you got it yet....
      You CAN, and will after you follow these steps - I've had this comment from probably 50 or more, just as adamant as you, and they got theirs working ;)
      Step 1) Make sure you're BOUND with SAFE SELECT ON. If you're NOT 100% sure - DO IT AGAIN, and make sure the surfaces "Dance" through the mix TWICE at power up...NOT ONCE...Once means you're in AS3X only mode.
      Step 2) Go to MONITOR MODE, and watch the switch change the condition of the channel you THINK is assigned to the SWITCH YOU WANT TO USE - If it doesn't change state, go to System Setup and make the Channel Assignment to that switch. Now exit the menu and verify the changes took in Monitor Mode.
      Step 3) Now that you're 100% sure you're BOUND in SAFE Select, and you have an operational switch for channel (I think 5-8) assigned, go ahead and pull both sticks DOWN and IN, and then toggle the switch to a count to 10 (NOT 5)....most people don't count a FULL CYCLE of the switch...so they never get to 5 full back and forth cycles... On step 9 of 10, you'll see the surfaces twitch, and on 10 of 10 they'll "recenter" again.
      Here's PROBABLY what you're doing wrong...it's a super easy mistake to make, and you'll immediately get it if you are doing this wrong...
      Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
      Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
      Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
      Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
      Switch Up to Switch Down = 5
      Switch Down to Switch Up = 6
      Switch Up to Switch Down = 7
      Switch Down to Switch Up = 8
      Switch Up to Switch Down = 9
      Switch Down to Switch Up = 10
      When Horizon Hobby wrote those instructions they said 5 times, so this is what they meant, but it's confusing if not elaborated upon...
      Switch Up to Switch Down = 0
      Switch Down to Switch Up = 1
      Switch Up to Switch Down = 1
      Switch Down to Switch Up = 2
      Switch Up to Switch Down = 2
      Switch Down to Switch Up = 3
      Switch Up to Switch Down = 3
      Switch Down to Switch Up = 4
      Switch Up to Switch Down = 4
      Switch Down to Switch Up = 5
      ...pretty confusing, right??!?!?
      Step 4) The ONLY issue that might prevent this all from working is that your sticks are WAY out of calibration... if so, the Tx might not realize you're in the Lower Left or Lower Right position, thus preventing the designation when you hit flip 10... so if this ends up being the case, which I highly doubt, then you need to calibrate your sticks and then follow back from step 2 maybe.
      Good luck - you can do it!

      I will be flying my 1.1m soon. About what throttle speed you recommend on this at landing if wind is calm? I don’t want come in too fast and bounce, but also not stall. I been flying the 1.1m exact model like this one on Realflight Evo and little small warbirds in 400mm like Eachine but I can’t land those for much training. 😂

    Late to this vid, but the Grey USAF Parkzone 1.1m T-28 was my first larger aircraft, coming from the Parkzone UM T-28. I got it second hand, it was already 7-8 years old when I got it. It flies like a dream and was a perfect step up for me. I still fly it today, plane is 12 years old...still performs like new. I can only imagine the newer e-flite versions of this aircraft can only be better, especially with AS3X and SAFE (Although mine is super stable without it)

    I used reinforcing tape for the horizontal stab; stronger and easier and it will not show in the air. I too prefer screws for the t took off the cowl to install the front gear as the angle of the screw driver thru the cowl was off. This made it easy to ensure the flat spot was located properly. Now listening to NX6 set up.

    Can't wait to see this thing fly in a small space. With retracts and such, the 1.2m didn't really feel like a park flyer. As you mentioned in the view, this does look the part of a park flyer. At 1.1m it's similar in size to the AeroScout. Too bad you haven't flown that yet!
    The Forward Programming makes so much possible. As soon as I get it, I'm going to run through the settings and record them so I can unlock that 631 and reprogram Flaperons using the original setting. I know I don't need Flaperons, but they'll be fun as all get out when I speed through on 4S. Plus, it'll some drag to land at my short runway as that thing looks like it wants to lift. Might even help it settle better with speed and avoid that nose wheel bounce.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому

      I think this plane would LOVE some flaps ;) Retracts would be sweet if you could use a single servo to run them all....simple and light, but might be a bit of an "ask"...
      As for flapperons, if you fly this plane with pretty good amount of dihedral and outboard flapperons, I bet it would be really hokey....BUT if you use spoilerons, She's loose lift and fly good with deployment.

    I align the horizontal stab/elevator by measuring from a fixed point on the horz stab to the tip of the corresponding wing tip - horizontal stab end to wingtip.. Adjust the horizontal stab until both the diagonal measurements are equal on left & right and you know you have it square with the wings - and then tape it down.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      How do you keep them in position?

    • @thunker4603
      @thunker4603 2 роки тому

      @@BrianPhillipsRC I just have a piece of tape stuck to my hand ready to go. When the stab is aligned, just don't breath on it and slap down the piece of tape to lock it down. Check the measurements again and if still good put on the rest of the tape. Once the tape is all on I've never had any trouble with the stab shifting/moving.
      That's just how I do it. I learned it from the old GWS park flyer kits.... ParkZone uses the same method on their Radian powered sailplane as well if I recall correctly.
      P.S. - just got the T-28 myself, but haven't had a chance to maiden it yet.

    I have the substantially larger FMS 1.4 T-28D V4. Although it flies gloriously, frankly, I wish I'd bought something more like this, as the retracts on my FMS model have been less than forgiving of the rather imperfect landings that mark a relative newbie like myself. Frankly, it's just about sworn me off of planes with retracts altogether.

    I have heard you use the term/phrase " tractor the propeller" and have never heard that used before. I assumed you meant " windmill the propeller" Windmilling the prop causes the prop to provide drag and thus slow the aircraft. For the heck of it I searched on tractoring propeller. Turns out the term tractor is used in regard to propellers. A tractor propeller is a propeller mounted on the front of the aircraft and ' pulls' the aircraft through the air. The other choice would be a rear mounted propeller which is a pusher prop and pushes the aircraft through the air. I don't remember ever knowing about the tractor prop in 50 years of flying. Although I am old and have forgotten lots of things. Learn something new all the time. Regarding this video you are making it tough for me. Just when I think I have picked out my next plane another great one like this pops up and gets me thinking. The videos continue to be fantastic and I enjoy watching them. My compliments to you and the Camera Crew.

      I heard the terminology from a guy we make fun of on the channel from time to time ("pesky elevators" - he's the guy who says you don't need an elevator on a properly built sailplane). He was extremely smart, and EXTREME into the hobby, to the point of militant... He was absolutely no poser...he KNEW what he was talking about. I heard the term "tractoring" the prop from him. I too understand the "pusher" prop VS "tractor" prop in relation to the placement on the fuse, but this "windmill" terminology I hadn't heard until you mentioned it ;)
      You have a few more years of experience than I, but I'm ALWAYS learning new and interesting terminology. Sometimes I fear I'll use the wrong terminology and embarrass myself - Oh well - too late ;) LOL

    Did numerous flights with my UMX Timber Turbo and the Timber X and decided to maiden my maiden with my T-28 yesterday on a 3S. No wind no clouds in the sky but a BLINDING low in the sky directly in my face, I had fit over sunglasses on. Tried to fly past the sun with the T-T28 to make a loop around the field and instantly got completely blinded with my old eyes and saw big blue lines where I was looking directly at the sun. Could not see the plane at all with it's smaller wingspan and yellow color scheme against the sun. I thought I was flying straight past it and could see it on the other side once I regained my vision but nope, straight down and I didn't even see that. Asked my buddy and he said I had inverted the plane and when I pulled back on the stick to climb I went straight down. I was fortunate that the soft grass padded the crash completely, zero damage to wings and fuselage, not even a dent, but the prop cracked and the plastic nose cowl cracked. Motor mount, landing gear, prop shaft all good. I have another prop and could glue and tape the cowl but I just ordered an new one so I could re-maiden it. Learned a valuable lesson with that sun though, I won't be flying with it direct in my eyes and will wait till it's higher up when it's that bright! Had a perfect day other than that little mishap which was kind of a bummer, I was like really... brand new plane Rob... *ugg*. I will say it was way to slow on 3S and felt super floaty in the air, plus with the battery all the way forward sill had to trim it to keep it from climbing...

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому +1

      Gotta fly like the Pirates - Close one eye as you pass the sun...SERIOUSLY...that's a good tip I've shared on this channel a number of times, and I too fly with the sun in my eyes, but will TRY to put my back to the sun when possible.
      Glad you got off easy ;) Prop is no biggie, compared to what could have been - Keep at it. You'll be an expert in no time Rob!

So they use a helicopter 30 minutes they have both pumps in place and ready to be installed, they also use the helicopters to cut brush back on the main high power lines,If you have never seen it done it is pretty wild the helicopter picks up a cable with a half dozen rotating blades and runs it down the edge of the power line. A lot of the guys at my club have put a slightly larger dubro wheel on the front to help with cg and against prop strikes. For your first few flights give yourself a lot of runway. Go ahead and order a few props. My gf ordered mine as a b-day present (I helped pick it out) during the same sale. I flew it last weekend in 8mph wind w/ gusts. It flew like a dream. The Receiver is different than previously used.
      AS3X is the stabilizer system that's used int the Receiver. It runs on the software inside the Receiver. Not sure if the AS3X is really any different, but the interface is much improved and shows forward programming data...which is really cool. I'll show more about that in Second Thoughts for this plane.
