I tuned in with you flying around in the air and didn't know what airplane I was looking at from a distance I thought that was a spitfire wing... And by the way Megan's photography in this segment was excellent
@@BrianPhillipsRC Lucky maybe but that was experience coming into play at a split second. It's so good for our aging minds to do these things and I want to recognize it. For me , something as simple as this landing adds lifetime.
Hi Brian & Camera Crew! I have been enjoying your content for a long time now and wanted to thank both you for the amazing work you are doing! For a person who loves this hobby but can't fly as often as I would like, your videos are the way I wind down my days and keep in touch with latest and greatest in the RC world.
Brian I am 69 years and I love to watch your videos I tell my friends to watch your you are very smart when it comes to RC airplanes. PS your wife does a great job to
Just wanted to say that I flew mine yesterday for first time. 4 flights off moderately rough grass field with no problem. No hint of nose over using no flaps on takeoff and half flaps on landing. It lands like a dream. Can't wait to try some aerobatics. Love it. Andy in uk.
Man that thing looks like so much fun! One of my favorite things to do is to go into a high speed bank. Give it opposite rudder to keep it even in the turn. It just looks so dang gorgeous and awesome. Which you did a lot in this video haha. I was actually comparing this to the RV-7. I'm glad for this review (as I am with ALL of em) because I think I just made up my mind on which to get. Great flying, great tips, and just awesome. Thanks, Brian!
Sweet! Glad you enjoyed the flight, and yes, this would be a better pick but that's largely a preference issue...so don't want to talk you out of the RV7 - it too is very good, just not my style..
Everyone - @ about 0:02:04 - I accidentally said "...for now we're on 3S..." This was a total goof on my part, and I'm very sorry. I JUST caught my mistaken remarks thanks to @Johnny Maynard ...so to be totally transparent, I clipped out about 1/2 second from about 0:02:03:23 thru 0:02:03:40 to get rid of my MIS-SPEAK. I sometimes mix words while I'm flying and trying to call out maneuvers and what not, but this one was BAD! We try really hard not to misrepresent these planes, and don't want people to think we were ever doing it intentionally! This was just a mistake on my part. Thank you for understanding, and thanks again to Johnny Maynard for helping me figure out why so many of you were excited about the 3S performance, when we thought we had only flown on 4S...for BOTH flights. To be CLEAR, we only flew the Commander on 4S for these maiden flights. Very sorry for the confusion. Amazing plane. (The video will be "edited in place" so if you look for my goof, you will see a slight 1/2 second jump in the video footage)
Many thanks for your video!!!! I just got my Commander and it came with a broken flap servo horn. A very easy fix! now I am setting up the radio and your video will be of great help. Greetings from Guatemala!
You guys are totally growing on me so much. I love your sense of humor keep up the good videos.. you all make a great couple and a team love your videos. I love the husband and wife chemistry in this one you nailed it.
Thanks Dean! When everything is going well (and sometimes when it's not) we've been told we're interesting to watch...but I kinda think that makes me like an animal in the zoo - P.S. Don't feed the animals...he's supposed to be on a diet - LOL
Hey Brian! Just wanted to say I love your channel. I've been in the hobby since January 2021 and I've gotten a lot our of your videos in the last year and a half. Your video on the Commander sold me on the plane and I purchased it through your link. I just maidened it and man, what a great plane! This is truly an everyday flier! LOVE IT! My new favorite! I always look forward to your content, and your lovely wife is one of the top RC plane video people on UA-cam! Keep it coming guys!
That's awesome! Thanks Matt, and welcome to the addiction ;) We're glad you're here with us. Great plane here, for sure. She would make a great everyday flier for sure! We're getting a lot better planes these days, then just a few short years ago....prettier, faster, more powerful, lighter, and just better designed (unless you're talking about Dynam - they suck just as bad as they did 5 years ago - LOL)
Just noticed in the video - the Plastic where the control wires slip down is to minimize wear-n-tear over time as forces may cause the wires to push out or even bend (say it met resistance on a couch or in the back of a car) and PRO-TIP for any plastic or even carbon fiber rod either water or a very, very thin coat (on a rag) of furniture polish. The rod just zips in/out anytime you need it w/out collecting dust. LOVE THIS PLANE!! Thank you BOTH :)
It must be the selling color of the last few years. "HEY Blue Planes Sell - Let's Make Some!" The Commander, Valliant, Night Radian, Sport Cub, Ultrix, UMX Turbo Tiber.... What would absolutely be VERY Cool is multiple color options like RC Cars have! Blue, Orange, Yellow, Red, and try a Purple? How crazy is that! Thank you BOTH for the amazing videos
I think that would be very nice, but don't think the market conditions will offer a great shot at this any time soon. It takes these companies about 3-6 months (or longer) to get a shipment, then when they DO get one, it's a whole container. If they got a couple colors, that would be awesome, provided all colors were equally popular, and they all sold out, but you know what wold happen...one or two of the 8 colors would sell, then the rest would be in the warehouse. I agree it'd be nice to see some different liveries, but practically speaking, and in today's RC economy, I highly doubt we'll see it on any items this size or larger. Maybe on UMX planes, I could see a couple color offerings...since you can squeeze more opportunity into a single order, but these larger packages just take up a ton of space. Same is truER as you get bigger and bigger. That being said, I DO absolutely agree it would be cool to see a color choice at some point. Maybe they could make some of the finishing choices on a "Just in time" basis...meaning at time of ordering, you'd have a crew that does the final paint work, but this would lead to huge cost bumps, due to labor being all local, and then you'd have customers just go get the ones that are like 40% cheaper at the competitor. However, this would be a cool way to get MORE planes over in a tighter, manufacturing jig type pack. Shipping in full retail packaging is a big inefficiency too. Maybe some of these things could come together for a better customer experience, and more profit potential for the distributor/manufacturers in the USA. Would certainly lead to QA nightmares, but it would be cool to see this model tested. Not sure if you're aware or not, but I work in manufacturing, as a large part of my scale work, for my day job, and I see a lot of these situations in the large scale industrial plants. It is crazy what plants will do to save 1 screw from an assembly, and how difficult it is to keep from missing a washer from a bolt pack, or instruction manual from a box, let alone a whole process only know AFTER the point of sale. Anyway, this goes get my gears turning.
with Brian Phillips R/c you definitely get a variety of content that you wont see or hear on other R/c channels. and is one of the many reasons i enjoy them!!! Keep up with the silliness the world needs more of it... :) wing words wing words wing words
Hey Brian Love your videos. I have bought six plane because of you GREAT and very informative videos, which you don't get from other sites. As a 70 year old beginner thanks for all your work. P.S. This will be plane 7.
Hi guys at last I made a decision and just bought the commander through you site thanks for all you do ,your videos are a blessing for me [ us newbees]lol got the trojan 1.1 as my first plane ,flying without safe more and more was going with the Trojan 1.2 with retracts but saw this review and had to have it thanks to you and your family happy thanksgiving 🦃
A Great representation and introductions to this new Eflite line of planes. Your review has made me buy one as soon as I finished your review., Thank you again...
Great tip on adjusting the trim if you don't have a pair of the ball joint pliers. My Commander came out of the box with the rudder misaligned like yours. All is good now and ready for the field. BTW, I have a set of ball joint pliers on order now for future needs. Thanks again. Keep those videos and tips coming. Woo Hoo!
Alrighty...alrighty.....your freakin awesome video of this magnificent plane...Just had to order one. My kids are never gonna get to college if I keep watching your videos. Money well spent though.... keep up your videos. And thank you camera crew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Magnificent, as well!
You're welcome!!!! It was only interrupted since I mis-spoke in a way that might be misleading, and I wanted to take out the 0.25 seconds of this potentially misleading comment where I accidentally said 3S and I wanted to be above reproach...then UA-cam stopped most from watching it while it was editing (3 days!!!!!) Very Sorry for the confusion this might have caused!
While Horizon charges too much for parts, and electrical components, their plane prices are fine. Their planes are continually getting better, now 3 & 4 S compatible, metal geared servos, ball links, very quick and easy to assemble, AS3X with SAFE, etc. I have seen another UA-camr fly this plane in high winds, it flew amazing. This year we have had a lot of wind so this plane is now on my wish list.
We have some people "on the inside" working to make the pricing slightly better for replacement parts, but it's an uphill battle. Most of these companies HATE spare parts. It's a loss leader, but everyone thinks they're getting rich off the spare parts... I just wish I didn't need them from time to time ;) LOL Love this plane - it is REALLY good!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Its not the price of the spare parts but the ESC's Motors, servos, etc. Their prices are so much higher than others for similar stuff. But I will continue to buy BNF planes from them including this one though not for awhile.
Man that baby screams and on three s that's awesome ! Love your reviews Brian ! I make my decisions on these produces from them and you don't let us down. Keep on keeping on my friend. Camera crew you are the Best also !
Johnny - help me out here. Did I fly this thing on 3S??? OR am I reading something into yours, and others comments??? Did I ACCIDENTALLY say 3S - I thought we did BOTH flights on 4S packs? If I did say this, or allude to it, I'm really sorry! Please help me out; I don't want to be deceptive to you guys!
@@BrianPhillipsRC The first part of the video you said You said " This thing flys on 3's or 4's but for now we are on 3's. " Awesome any way you flew it or put it my friend. Your video show's it's a great plane.
I had to visit this video, but I was wondering hadn't you guys put sprinklers in your front lawn to keep it growing nicely and keep it trim for those grass ops, I too live in AG country my front lawn is well maintained with a mix of different grasses that can handle cold winters and hot summers, I dont have city water.
We don't have any irrigation system, but might invest in that once we get all the grading done. If or when we do it, I'd like to put it on the dam runway too, and along the apron on the dam gift shop too. It'll be a pretty big system, but now that we have the pond, I might use that water for the irrigation system, and possibly power it from the dam gift shop, since I HOPE to put up solar over there too, and battery system, to hold down the cost of getting infrastructure over there. Loads of hard decisions coming, and just at the tip of the iceberg.
@BrianPhillipsRC WOW, you're not kidding It's going to be very impressive when you have everything finished . It's cool your a industrial automation tech, I'm a retired industrial utility tech I've worked on natural gas-fired industrial equipment for many years.
The power lines are making you fly better and you obviously know how to fly all of your obstacles without thinking about it. When I took this up the first time today I had a hard time bringing it down because I didn't use flaps at first and I actually clipped a power line on final because I can't see as good as you and it was a new place that I never flew at before (no damage since it just grazed it). I now know to stay well away from that area in the future. Every field has a certain perfect zone for making the landing and it took me a while to figure out what it was at the new field I was at. I can't wait to put this plane through it's paces in a more wide open area. I didn't have to put any trim in at all on mine so not sure why you had to put all that up trim in. Also, my rudder didn't look offset like yours did but worked great with it perfectly straight. I also will mostly fly off of grass that is not well manicured so I just removed the wheel pants to avoid issues there. The plane fly's so good though. It can do all the IMAC maneuvers really well. I'll need to find a better flying field though to be able to do all the fun stuff without any stress. A small but useful change to what you did with that cabinet liner in the battery tray is to simply pull off the existing Velcro and simply glue down the piece of liner onto the tray with some CA glue. I actually used that liner stuff to keep a new bed from sliding off of the top of my vehicle coming home from the mattress factory so I can attest how well it works along with some tie downs. The only thing I was disappointed with was the elevator haves didn't not fit as nicely into the fuse as yours did on the video. Mine had some crushing to get it in there and the final alignment of the whole elevator was a little off from the main wing. This will probably throw the precision loop performance off a bit but I'll just do some mixing to cancel it out.
Yeah, I've hit the power lines a few times ;) As for your elevator issue, have you tried just twisting it all? (The fuse?) Sometimes you can get some of the worst stuff fixed, and you won't even believe it...not saying you'll have this luck, but I've been lucky on a few and NOT so lucky on others.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I'm not going to even try that on this one. I'm quite happy with the performance after having flown it about 7 times now the loops require very little adjustment. What I'm having trouble with is getting it down on the ground. Even with full flaps this thing just keeps going. On my particular field, I have to make a very short down and base leg to get to a good shallow height to bring it in. I'm starting to think about in-flight thrust reverse to get it to slow down more. Yes, I know that is on the dangerous side but I could practice up at altitude to get a feel for going back and forth between forward/reverse/forward as required. This plane doesn't' descend very well when the power is cut like on many other planes that I had in the past. Pushing the nose down just makes it speed up and over shoot the intended landing area. With that said, when there is enough of a head wind like today, it isn't a problem. Only on those dead calm days, which are my favorite.
Hi Brian just a word to the wise,I also thought that the prop was pre installed like you ,on my maiden the whole prop with all its nuts and spacers and spinner extra came as I was taking off luckily it wasn’t off the ground ,so I guess that is a major newbie mistake I will be double checking every time I fly ,glad it didn’t do it in the air phew
Much appreciated! It was a pleasure to fly, and build! love the plane. Complaints level are getting so low on these new planes, maybe I need to do a Dynam soon, so I can remember how terrible they go - LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL ;) JK - Megan just threw a pillow at me from across the room - LOL!
Glad you came back! sorry about that too!!!! the video editor say "Content will still be available to watch as the changes take place" - but evidently UA-cam just doesn't really care ;(
FYI -- great video, but to clarify your "DANCE" is beeping the "number of cells" in your LiPo ex: 4-beeps=4S, 3-beeps=3S, continuous beeps=No binding. Love your videos, always very informative!
Awesome Demo. Wish I had a smooth surface to fly planes like that. Rough tightly mowed field is what I fly off of. Or I fly off the road but it's crowned so much it's a challenge. I'm jealous 😫
Our road is crowned so much too. I was just working with a concrete finisher, and he said it's only supposed to be 2% on the road and 4% on the shoulder, but I think ours is quite a bit more! Have you thought about geotextile fabric? That was what I was going to do before we decided to use the money toward the driveway (...and by the way, Megan and I agree - one of the best choices we made on this property, paving the driveway!!!!)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I only have a parking area up close to the road. No drive way . The field I use Is my brother's across the road. I do mean road " not street " . Country bumpy hillbilly paved crap. Dusty in the summer, Muddy in the spring. Anyway. ... I'm looking around for a place to fly within a close travel since gas is off the hook now. Still jealous ....LOL
Just my experience, but I fly mine off a moderately rough grass field with no problem, and I am not a great pilot. A bit of up elevator and it has never nosed over on takeoff with no flaps. Lands with flaps on rough grass like a dream. Andy in uk.
Nice to see you having so much fun Brian and Camera Crew. Great review of the Commander. Always wanted one. This is my NEXT purchase in a month. Hope it's still in stock. 🤓 The only thing I would change is nylon hinges. AirHammer out!!
Cool review. Hey side note...Real Flight should add your field/house to the next version. All the obstacles would be fun to fly? Telephone poles and all! 😉
Tough call. The P-51 is a strange nuance, since I've had like 4 in that size and loved them all. This is my only Commander, so if I had to pick right now, I'd say, P-51 DOES have retracts...so if you want grass ops, the Commander is for you ;) Commander bit.ly/3KNppHu P51 bit.ly/3bU5icI
Seems like the RV-7 has becoming the whipping boy on this channel lately lol! I love mine, but I agree about the landings, took about 10 flights before I could really grease it in consistently. This seems like a cool and beautiful plane, but I agree about the need for lights. Having the front and rear facing lights on the RV has really spoiled me.
LOL - I hope I'm not beating it down that bad - LOL - it's a GREAT plane...seriously good...just not my cup of tea ;) Sorry if I can't get past this difference. It's getting hard finding "issues" to report...they are doing a great job on the newer planes. There's hardly anything to gripe about!!!! Love this plane, btw, if it weren't obvious ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I hear ya buddy! When comparing beautiful planes with smart features, unlimited vertical, easy assembly and no bad flying habits it must be hard to find find faults. This is a GOOD problem for the hobby!
First time I flew the RV7 did an absolute greaser of a landing so much so that one of our experienced guys said it was landing of the season so far, nice plane to fly
Love the new livery it is GORGEOUS!!! My OG Commander is still going strong. You should put Bush wheels on it Brian. I put Timber wheels on mine and what a difference it made for me. I dont have a nice paved or cement runway instead grass or dirt. Now my commander is kinda a bush bird. Also the plane IMO looks better without the wheel pants. The bigger wheels sets the plane off. I also added Nav lights as well. Happy Flyin Sir from Butler Pa The Birth Place of the Jeep.
Hi Brian got my commander today I ordered through your links very easy to put together radio set up easy ,and with the help of your video trust reverse was easy along with channel a sign ,I have a quick question am I right in thinking if I bought an 80amp avian esc and put it in my Trojan. 1.1 and program thrust reverse it would be and work ok ,i land on a smooth landing strip and it rolls out a lot so this would slow it down nicely thnks in advance
That's a HUGE ESC for that plane, but should be fine! You can basically always make a larger ESC run a smaller motor (within reason), but not the other way around. Go for it! Thanks for your support!!!
Thanks not sure the ratio of motor to esc ?how does a guy work that out ?that’s why I thought 80 amp but may get a smaller one ,I love the thrust reverse just for taxing on the runway so may get a pitts 1400 pnp and put in a avain esc and a smart receiver with safe I like the safe option as I keep making mistakes guess this is doable too ? Thanks again for your videos helped me so much as a newbie 👍🏻
Great looking airplane good video funny you mentioned starlink I've been on the waiting list for over a year hopefully by July or August I should have starlink LOL
You will LOVE it. So much faster, and only occasional blackouts which are shorter in duration than any other system we've had....but they are more frequent. Latency is the biggest advantage, and it's a LOT better than ViaSat, which was in the 600-700mS, whereas now we're into the 30-40mS range - NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE!
That looks like a no fuss, uncomplicated great all-round flyer , I suspect a second, third and fourth thoughts will appear in rapid succession as you will want to keep flying it for a while.
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Cirrus sr22t 1.5M when it's released. Will you be doing a new video on this updated version when it's released?
I agree, it looks nice. Very nice color scheme, and the design looks cool. But I think I’d rather get the Corsair. Can’t wait for you to review that one!
A bit late to the party, but that was not a Bobcat. It was a Cat Mobile Track Loader Just like Puffs are not Kleenex. I love your videos. Very educational on setup and flight characteristics.
I don't think we had too...but if you follow our link, there's a spot down below where you can click on the manual for a PDF for the plane... Commander bit.ly/3OqIJw2
Great video Brian! You mentioned adding "5-6 clicks of trim"... was that down elevator trim? I maidened mine today and, man, the nose wanted to go up in the air every time I applied the least bit of power. The CG appears to be right, maybe a touch nose heavy, so I'm trying to figure out if I need to get aggressive with down elevator trim.
I had to undo the mechanical trim I put into the rudder, as it was right OUT OF THE BOX - LOL ;) As for climb with throttle...I think there was only a very slight tendency. Might want to scoot the lipo forward a bit and see if that helps. Might "soften" your pitchiness.
Totally different feel. I love the Commander, but I'm way more inclined to a "pylon racer" over an all out 3D plane. I'm not a huge fan of 3D flying, so I would very subjectively choose this one over the Extra 300.
Hey Brian Phillips another entertaining and super informative video. And thanks camera crew, great shots!! One thing I wondered is can you bind this with the new DXs that comes with the aeroscout?? What are the pros and cons??
You should be able to bind to it, but you won't have control of all the stuff. If you're going to get this and any other planes, please let me talk you into an NX8 or even an NX10 - you will thank me later ;) Tx bit.ly/3f4JhZl
hello brian, and first congratulations, your youtube channel is fantastic, etc... I bought it to order and I have very big problems getting it to take off on grass. the wheels lock up and the nose pitches down. and landing is also a nightmare. I removed the blue wheel guards, it's a little better and it's not great. now I'm trying to change the wheels and put on toundra wheel but I don't know the model or the references of a compatible toundra wheel. Hi, if anyone has had the same problem... here in belgium we unfortunately don't have asphalt or concrete tracks. we take off from full campaign on a lawn/grass...
Fortunately you CAN actually hand launch this beauty! Have you considered some GEO TEXTILE FABRIC for a runway??? This is a GREAT option, and since it's used in civil engineering, it's available almost everywhere, but it's NOT cheap. Here's an example... amzn.to/3P2mv4a ...you essentially lay it out right OVER the grass, and make a landing strip. This is a way to layout a seasonal runway, if you wish.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian! I value your perspective. Regretfully they are still unavailable. And I already have a challenging 3D plane in the Addiction V2 so this seems a better counterpoint. Your view helps confirmation. Camera crew is still the best in the RC world!
Hey Brian, I hope you and CC are well. I just ordered the Commander. I noticed the prop was pre installed. Are you going to take it off and balance it? I also just upgraded from the NX 10 to the IX 14 awsome trans!!!! I hope you and the fam have a safe and blessed New Year!
We already have it filmed, and it's just waiting for the date HH will let us release it...yes, one of the few drawbacks of working with HH, but very good plane!!! F4U Corsair bit.ly/30TcMX3
Ive stayed away from commenting. Now is the time. Great plane, (for me) after swapping out the safe rx for an ar620, adjusting ALL the linkages out (more throw. Im not about speed, love aerobatics & 3D.). I received mine Friday a week ago. Both the brown shipping box and plane boxes were perfect. Inside ALL the sealed plastic, CF wing spar was 5mm too long. Had to dremel it to get the wings together (after an hour of trouble shooting), i had a destroyed right Aileron servo horn, no screw in servo. BOTH rudder and elevator servos, no screws, & horns were way too big. 🤷. I emailed HH with pictures. Robert replied with 'how are the boxes'. REALLY? I included 6+ pix of everything, including the boxes! Never another response (surprise surprise). I told Robert i didn't expect anything to come of my situation, but 'reviewers' think im full of it. I don't care, i sent pix, to HH & EVERYONE i fly with weekly. Great video as always Brian! I hope im the only buyer with the 'friday or monday' garbage i recieved. Mine should have NEVER been shipped!
Sorry you had such a bad experience. Ours was about the opposite. What's your plan? Are you gonna have them replace it, or what are you trying to work out with HH?
I'm having trouble with the AS3X and SAFE setup. I want AS3X on all the time and three levels of SAFE. Full, Intermediate, and Off. Problem is, when I switch to Intermediate or Off, I lose AS3X. Did you do the AS3X test in AS3X Mode??
After a crash, i need to command a new fuselage and i dont know how work the connection to the receiver regarding the Smart ESC module. How should I plug it in the receiver? This module includes 2 sockets. A) 1 black/red/white socket B) 1 yellow plug According to the description of the receiver, you must put the plug on channel 1 of the receiver. But what is the socket that goes to 1 (the A?) and the other where should it be plugged in?
@BrianPhillipsRC hey, what happened to you doing a Cessna 150 video with the oh so wanted nose wheel? that's what im getting tomorrow and it reminded me of you :)))
Hi, could you explain gains, wobble and how you adjust on the fly? I notice you doing that alot and was wondering how. I notice my AS3X wobble in my t28 and would love to know how to adjust. Thanx in advance!
Gains and wobbles...on a PNF - sure, but on a BNF, I don't adjust the AS3X gains... You need to probably watch a video where I play with the gain adjustments, like maybe the Hangar 9 P-47...or the Ultra Stick (Also hangar 9). Since these BNF's come pre-programmed and gains are pretty much "SET", I don't play with them at all. AS for WOBBLE...this is something we don't have to deal with much anymore, with AS3X since they come setup so dang good, but before this era of well adjusted planes, we used to have to adjust the GAINS down if the plane would OSCILATE, usually at high(er) speeds OR we would have to slow down to regain control. If the plane is oscilating, there's another way to stop it...you can also reduce the control output of the servo to the control surface...if the control rod is going to the INNERMOST hole, you could move it out one, or more, which would reduce the output to the surface, thus lowering both the HUMAN control, and the stabilizer control, which usually fixes a wobble.
I don't understand what you're saying, or asking.... Are you saying you ONLY want AS3X? - You'll get both AS3X (stabilization) and SAFE (Auto-leveling + Limited Angles + Stabilization), but you don't have to use SAFE - it's optional, AS3X is not in the BNF. OR Are you saying you ALSO want SAFE? - You get SAFE with any current AS3X equipped plane - but you don't have to use it. You can also make it turn on and off with the flip of a switch, which is what we show how to do, even if you would just skip that part. Did you already buy it, or are you considering buying it? "I'm going to return it???" - I don't get it Not sure if this answers, but if you got what you needed, here's the link - Commander bit.ly/3OqIJw2
I'm working my way through this radio setup and after binding, there is no control surface movement while moving the plane around indicating that AS3X mode is not active. I don't want safe mode at all so I bound it normally and checked in Forward Programming that the AS3X is on but still no control surface movement. I thought maybe I should re-bind it but no idea how to do that. Maybe the bind plug has to be used. Is there a way to unbind and then re-bind? Also, why isn't AS3X working? BTW, I did not have any issue with the CF wing tube being too long as some have reported, mine worked perfectly without modification. EDIT: OK, I see now that the throttle must be advanced more than a 1/4 throttle to activate AS3X which you did in the video, but did not explain why you did it so I had no idea that it was necessary to do for testing.
Hey Brian - I just finished assembling my Commander and was wondering if you end up pushing the ESC around when installing a 3200 4s battery? I have it angled in and sort of stuck down now - hopefully it won't be an issue? Looks to be a very nice plane!
You are the only person who has explained setting up reverse thrust. Horizon Hobby told me it did not exist unless I upgraded the ESC! So - how do I purchase from Horizon but give you credit?
For me, the Commander is the better choice, but for some the RV-7 might be better. I'd say use these couple of considerations to help you decide.... 1) Are you after a more SCALE looking and feeling flight performance? If so, Go with the COMMANDER 2) Are you needing a SMALLER plane? If so (Needing smaller), Go with the RV-7 3) Do you LOVE the looks of the RV-7 - Go with the RV-7 4) Do you LOVE the looks of the Commander - Go with the COMMANDER 5) Both? Can you afford them BOTH? Do you want them BOTH? 6) Which one is in stock (Check links below for stock)? - Choose the one that's available Otherwise, they are super similar in battery size used, and fun factor, but I think the Commander is a better flying plane. Hope these thoughts help you pick. Good luck! Commander bit.ly/3OqIJw2 RV7 bit.ly/3z1VuI2
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you Brian for your analysis. I'm a intermediate level skill, i have Conscendo Evolution, HK Excalibur and EFX Racer (like Eflite v900). And no plane with wheels for landing. I think Commander is better for slow approach to landing because it's has flaps. About Lipo i have only 4s type. The commander is little more expensive ! The blue color is V2 and Red is V1 ?
@@BrianPhillipsRC I think the style of the RV7 is rather similar to the Eflite extra 300 model so these two models are rather intended for the type of aerobatic and 3D flight. It is not totally comparable with the Commander. You're ok with me ?
I tuned in with you flying around in the air and didn't know what airplane I was looking at from a distance I thought that was a spitfire wing...

The full power at 6:37 to prevent the stall and land pretty nicely was an epic maneuver. This one throttle slam will save your plane. Excellent!
Thanks! We all get lucky once in a while ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Lucky maybe but that was experience coming into play at a split second.
Thanks Amol! Glad we're able to help you get the most of our the limited time you get to fly!
Love it. Andy in uk.
AWESOME!!! So glad you're loving it - I was more than impressed with this plane!
NICE! I'll give that a try. Good idea!
We really appreciate that!
Hey Brian
Love your videos. I have bought six plane because of you GREAT and very informative
videos, which you don't get from other sites. As a 70 year old beginner thanks for all your
work. P.S. This will be plane 7.
I think that was some of the nicest flying I've seen you do on your videos. That thing is just so smooth.
Thanks David! This plane is an absolute joy to fly!
Great video! I'm so glad I got in on this one can't wait to maiden it this weekend!!! :)
Have fun! Good luck Rob!
Thank you guys. I have been looking at this for a long time. Maybe time to pull the trigger.
Do it ;) Great plane. Flies more like the Cherokee / T-28 than the RV7. I feared it would be a slightly bigger RV7, but not so ;)
A Great representation and introductions to this new Eflite line of planes. Your review has made me buy one as soon as I finished your review., Thank you again...
Thanks Michael! Glad you're here with us, and Eflite makes a great plane!
Woo Hoo!
Awesome! Glad we could help!!!! Good luck on your maiden!
Beautiful flying and set up. I liked seeing camera crew for a change.🤗
Thank you very much!
Many of us didn't know if she was rear OR a robot! 😁
Right on! LOL - Who needs college anyway - LOL
Beautiful plane and flight. I'm with you Brian, we need a percentage reading right on top of the battery meter to make telemetry perfect!
100% - see how I did that HH ;) LOL
Thanks for reposting. Can watch this beauty now
You're welcome!!!! It was only interrupted since I mis-spoke in a way that might be misleading, and I wanted to take out the 0.25 seconds of this potentially misleading comment where I accidentally said 3S and I wanted to be above reproach...then UA-cam stopped most from watching it while it was editing (3 days!!!!!)
Very Sorry for the confusion this might have caused!
Summer is finally here!!
Finnnnnalllly!!!!
Hi Brian, the beauty of this beautiful canal is that every day I see a new plane🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝😁😁😁😁
Interesting!
Brian covers all these wonderful planes because he knows I have a problem. 🤪
Yes, exactly!!!! This plane is good too Krag!
I just wish I didn't need them from time to time ;) LOL
Love this plane - it is REALLY good!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Its not the price of the spare parts but the ESC's Motors, servos, etc. Their prices are so much higher than others for similar stuff. But I will continue to buy BNF planes from them including this one though not for awhile.
+ broken parts inside the sealed bags, wrong servi horns, missing screws for the wrong horns, etc.
(Yes im still pissed.)
Thus may be funny but Incredible pantry!! I'm guessing camera crew organized it, it is perfect!!!
Sure is ;) The Pantry is a labor of love for the camera crew :) If you're real curious, we have a "build series" for this house too ;)
Wow, this looks awesome!
It is! You need one!
I had to visit this video, but I was wondering hadn't you guys put sprinklers in your front lawn to keep it growing nicely and keep it trim for those grass ops,
I too live in AG country my front lawn is well maintained with a mix of different grasses that can handle cold winters and hot summers, I dont have city water.
@BrianPhillipsRC
WOW, you're not kidding
It's going to be very impressive
when you have everything finished .
It's cool your a industrial automation tech, I'm a retired industrial utility tech
I've worked on natural gas-fired industrial equipment for many years.
Good job camera crew and brian
Thanks ;)
Flyin Brian, another great video you two, ty!
Thanks again!
I've never heard of that yet!!! Sorry that happened to you!
Nice flying man, nice model
Sure is, thanks ;)
Kinda new to RC Aeros and have been looking up some models, your reviews are amazing!
that was a great climb out !!!!!!
Oh yeah!
Man she Cooks with speed!!
Oh yeah!!!!
Another great flick. You made it look good and EZ.
Much appreciated! It was a pleasure to fly, and build! love the plane. Complaints level are getting so low on these new planes, maybe I need to do a Dynam soon, so I can remember how terrible they go - LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL ;)

Hey, it's back. alright, now I can finish it. Thanks.
Glad you came back! sorry about that too!!!! the video editor say "Content will still be available to watch as the changes take place" - but evidently UA-cam just doesn't really care ;(
Can you just bind the command also- BNF?
Right on! Great choice!
Cool review. Hey side note...Real Flight should add your field/house to the next version. All the obstacles would be fun to fly? Telephone poles and all! 😉
I need to talk with HH about this.
Thanks for the video
Which would you say is funner to fly?
P51 June night or commander?
For those of you that have flown both, what's your take?
Tough call. The P-51 is a strange nuance, since I've had like 4 in that size and loved them all. This is my only Commander, so if I had to pick right now, I'd say, P-51 DOES have retracts...so if you want grass ops, the Commander is for you ;)

LOL - I hope I'm not beating it down that bad - LOL - it's a GREAT plane...seriously good...just not my cup of tea ;)
Sorry if I can't get past this difference.
Great piloting n filming 👍🏽
Thank you!
Cool!
Where do you put all your airplanes?
In the basement, kitchen, office, office closet, etc ;)
I miss mine! Should have kept it, was the original RED /white Color!
Loved it, but needed the Money at the time lol
It's back just for you!!!!!
YES!!! That's how this plane feels. You will just burn the whole evening flying it. It just makes you want more and more!
O ya camera crew is the bomb
She is soooo good ;)
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Cirrus sr22t 1.5M when it's released. Will you be doing a new video on this updated version when it's released?
yes, 100%. We have one on the way now, but just haven't gotten it yet. I think we'll have it in a few days.
Bro You really lucked out with your camera crew...good team work !
To take the canopy off, I slide it laterally a bit and then it is much easier to lift.
Know i want this Plain😍
yes ;)
Nice, I may order one.
You should!
i think the plug in there is to keep the control rods from bowing and losing precise throws Brian
Yes, I think so too.
Great flight Brian, excellent filming camera crew
Many thanks! Megan is very good!!!!
Hell ya man
agreed!
I agree, it looks nice. Very nice color scheme, and the design looks cool. But I think I’d rather get the Corsair. Can’t wait for you to review that one!
F4U is gonna be nice ;) Can't wait to do that one. I still have my V1 and it's in very good condition still!
@@BrianPhillipsRC That’s awesome! What I like about V2 is that it is customizable like the 80mm F-16
A bit late to the party, but that was not a Bobcat. It was a Cat Mobile Track Loader Just like Puffs are not Kleenex. I love your videos. Very educational on setup and flight characteristics.
What hole did you put the Aileron
I don't think we had too...but if you follow our link, there's a spot down below where you can click on the manual for a PDF for the plane...
Commander bit.ly/3OqIJw2
Great video Brian! You mentioned adding "5-6 clicks of trim"... was that down elevator trim? I maidened mine today and, man, the nose wanted to go up in the air every time I applied the least bit of power. The CG appears to be right, maybe a touch nose heavy, so I'm trying to figure out if I need to get aggressive with down elevator trim.
I had to undo the mechanical trim I put into the rudder, as it was right OUT OF THE BOX - LOL ;)
As for climb with throttle...I think there was only a very slight tendency. Might want to scoot the lipo forward a bit and see if that helps. Might "soften" your pitchiness.
LOVE IT! How does it compare to the eflite Extra 300? Great Job!
If you're going to get this and any other planes, please let me talk you into an NX8 or even an NX10 - you will thank me later ;)
Tx bit.ly/3f4JhZl
hello brian, and first congratulations, your youtube channel is fantastic, etc...
Why is the video no longer available?
Seems to be working again! So sorry for the inconvenience!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you so much! I really enjoy your videos!
U crack me up guys
Thanks Shane!
Would you choose this over the extra bnf? Thanks
I would 100%, BUT I'm not really a 3D pilot, so I'm admittedly, bit biased
Which do you like better - the Commander or the Ultimate?
I like the Commander a lot better, but it's more up my alley.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian! I value your perspective. Regretfully they are still unavailable. And I already have a challenging 3D plane in the Addiction V2 so this seems a better counterpoint. Your view helps confirmation. Camera crew is still the best in the RC world!
This or Timber Evolution for an "everyday foamie"? I loved my Pulse back in the day and the commander kinda reminds me of it
Thanks!
I was in the middle of asking how this compares to the rv7, and you answered my question lol
Are you gonna review the new e flite f-4u?
We already have it filmed, and it's just waiting for the date HH will let us release it...yes, one of the few drawbacks of working with HH, but very good plane!!!

Absolutely ridiculous they dont LOOK inside their boxes anymore. B4 HH bought Great Planes/tower, they cared. Those days are loooooooooooong gone.
Sorry you had such a bad experience. Ours was about the opposite.
What's your plan? Are you gonna have them replace it, or what are you trying to work out with HH?

Going to call 'Nate Kennedy' Monday & see. That left me NOT ever wanting another one for sure!
Brian I forgot to ask. Turbo timber or commander? Thanks for your advice
If you don't have the Turbo Timber - get that one! Turbo Timber 1.5m bit.ly/3cEjplB
A) 1 black/red/white socket
B) 1 yellow plug
According to the description of the receiver, you must put the plug on channel 1 of the receiver.
But what is the socket that goes to 1 (the A?) and the other where should it be plugged in?
vidio not available on this device !!! why ??? all your vids have played on this pc before ????
Seems to be working again! So sorry for the inconvenience!
2200 - 4 cell or the 3200 -4 cell on the commander? You preference ?
@BrianPhillipsRC
hey, what happened to you doing a Cessna 150 video with the oh so wanted nose wheel? that's what im getting tomorrow and it reminded me of you :)))
I wound up LOVING the "T" and never had a chance to do the Tri-Cycle. I still want to make a STOL off road Tri-Cycle with big pneumatic tires
I followed your video on the commander and it'll only buy it on a s3x but not safe so I'm going to return it
I don't understand what you're saying, or asking....
Are you saying you ONLY want AS3X? - You'll get both AS3X (stabilization) and SAFE (Auto-leveling + Limited Angles + Stabilization), but you don't have to use SAFE - it's optional, AS3X is not in the BNF.
OR
Are you saying you ALSO want SAFE? - You get SAFE with any current AS3X equipped plane - but you don't have to use it. You can also make it turn on and off with the flip of a switch, which is what we show how to do, even if you would just skip that part.
Did you already buy it, or are you considering buying it? "I'm going to return it???" - I don't get it
Not sure if this answers, but if you got what you needed, here's the link - Commander bit.ly/3OqIJw2
Would this be a good beginner plane? Im currently flying the aeroscout 2.1 and am a beginner
Curious about this video, I can't watch it on my phone or laptop, it says this video is unavailable on this device
Seems to be working again! So sorry for the inconvenience!
@@BrianPhillipsRC fantastic, maiden mine yesterday and love it, did not think I would
Hey Brian could you make a video on how to make it do reverse thrust
We have that already - you're watching it!
Hey Brian - I just finished assembling my Commander and was wondering if you end up pushing the ESC around when installing a 3200 4s battery? I have it angled in and sort of stuck down now - hopefully it won't be an issue? Looks to be a very nice plane!
In your opinion, what do you think would be a better second plane, the commander or the habu ss 50?
You are the only person who has explained setting up reverse thrust. Horizon Hobby told me it did not exist unless I upgraded the ESC!
So - how do I purchase from Horizon but give you credit?

Hi Brian, the choice is dificult for me between Commander Mpd and the Eflite RV-7 1.1M, could you help for choice please ? thank you
For me, the Commander is the better choice, but for some the RV-7 might be better. I'd say use these couple of considerations to help you decide....
1) Are you after a more SCALE looking and feeling flight performance? If so, Go with the COMMANDER
2) Are you needing a SMALLER plane? If so (Needing smaller), Go with the RV-7
3) Do you LOVE the looks of the RV-7 - Go with the RV-7
4) Do you LOVE the looks of the Commander - Go with the COMMANDER
5) Both? Can you afford them BOTH? Do you want them BOTH?
6) Which one is in stock (Check links below for stock)? - Choose the one that's available
Otherwise, they are super similar in battery size used, and fun factor, but I think the Commander is a better flying plane.
Hope these thoughts help you pick. Good luck!

@@BrianPhillipsRC Hi Brian, in 18:27 of this video, after your landing, the motor can spin reverse for helping stop the plane ? how do you do it ?
Oops! You didn’t show how to install the ball link to the elevator pushrod.
Did we clip it out???
