I love muslin/gauze fabric quilts for both adults and babies! Always prewash the fabric first as it will shrink the first time it is washed/dried. I have made 2 gauze quilts and also rounded the corners which makes putting the binding on even easier! One other thing I always do because I have a serger is once it is squared off I run all the edges through the serger with a 4 thread stitch. This compresses the edge and makes adding binding so much easier. I use my serger with all of my quilts before binding. I've seen this striped gauze fabric at Joann's and have been thinking about using it to make myself a really soft/comfortable quilt.
Yes, you made it yourself!!! I am new to quilting and want so badly to make something beautyful and useful at the same time! Thank you for your videos.
Excellent use for these double gauze fabrics. I would use cotton or bamboo/silk or wool batting for a baby. No synthetics around little ones. The rounded corners are awesome. Bias binding with the same fabric would also work well too. I would bind it by hand. Thank you!
I love the quilt that you made. I've made a few muslin swaddle wraps for my new grandson, which my son & daughter-in-law love. They have a specific colour scheme for baby, and I was able to choose the right colour. I now feel inspired to make a muslin quilt with a nice print on one side. Thank you so much for sharing. 😁
Thank You this is exactly what I needed. My little boy is obsessed with these but I wanted to make him a bigger one then the ones he has now that he is 3 and I just picked everything I needed up. Can’t wait.
@@ElenaMarieSewing can you tell me what type of batting or share a link to the batting used. New to using batting and I feel so lost. I got batting but it’s not what I feel like I need after looking at it it’s thick. So now I want to get what would be better
@CarlyW Of course! You want to aim for a low loft batting. For this video I used Poly-Fil Low Loft batting ( www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BDLWIO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) but you could also use a thin cotton batting ( www.joann.com/pellon-natural-cotton-crib-pkg-batting/11632882.html ) . The cotton batting will be thinner but slightly more dense. The poly-fil will be slightly more fluffy feeling
I am a novice quilter and determined to make this, just wondering if you needed to join strips of the biased tape before binding and if so what method did did you use. Thank you
Making a quilt like this soon! So glad I found your video!! ❤ can you tell me what size double bias tape you used? I’m finding multiple sizes, 1 inch, 1/2, 1/4, 5/8, etc.
After using and washing this blanket, did you find that the materials moved too much/loosened in between your quilted lines?? I'm in the process of making something very similar using muslin but am having a really hard time with the amount of movement! Thanks!
I have washed mine a few times and so far it hasn’t been an issue. I think after a long time it may start getting lumpy but mine has held up to this point. You could always add a few more lines of quilting, or using a thinner cotton batting may help too. Good luck!
Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been trying to find a tutorial for something like this. How has the batting held up with washing? My son has a Bebé au Lait blanket but it doesn’t have batting inside. Is it as cozy as 4 layers of muslin?
So so glad this was helpful ☺️ I have washed this maybe 5 times so far and it is still in perfect condition! Maybe overtime it will breakdown, but so far so good. You could absolutely do 4 layers of muslin! May not had as much loft (fluffiness) as mine, but would still be very nice. You could also choose a different cotton batting that has less loft, but may hold up better with washing. Let me know what you choose and how it turns out!
@@ElenaMarieSewing They are not the same at all. Gauze, and most of what we see available right now is actually double gauze, is a much looser weave than muslin. They would make up a very different type of blanket.
@@ElenaMarieSewing Your blanket is beautiful and I can't wait to try one. When I put muslin or gauze in Joann's search engine, it showed like 5 items. When I typed in swaddle fabric, it showed a lot more choices. Thank you so much for your video.

I think people would understand better because everyone doesn’t know what muslin is or heard of it ya know. I personally love the gauze. I make a lot of baby stuff out of it it’s great. I love linen too

Thank you! And I love that! Nothing is cuter than a baby all cuddled up in a blanket :). I’m sure your friend loved it!

Did you wash and dry the fabric before you started the blanket?
Yes!! Makes a huge difference
Looks great!! Very inspiring ❤
Thank you! I appreciate it :)
Love this tutorial. Did you wash the fabric first?
Yes I did!
Love this quilt and really want to make one (or more!). Where did you find your colored muslin??
Joann’s!

Can you tell us where you got the material?
Thank you so much! I actually found the fabric at my local Joann’s. I don’t have many options near me so most of my fabric comes from there 🙂

What kind of fabric is this? Muslin isn't normally like this, it looks more like gauze.
Good point! Muslin and double gauze are pretty similar - either will work.

What type of batting is best to use for baby blanket. Thanks for the video
This is a high loft poly batting. It’s a bit more fluffy. But if you want a thinner blanket you can use a cotton batting
Beautiful project.
This fabric appears to be double gauze. I've never heard it called muslin.
Yes! Thank you!
Love it!😍👌🏻
Thank you so much!
Can you please tell us what is the padding in between called?
Batting 💕
where would you recommend buying the muslin from?
I bought my muslin from my local Joann’s. www.joann.com/simple-life-blue-multi-stripe-bubble-gauze/18510826.html

I think it’s technically bubble type gauze, but a thin soft muslin is great. You can also buy swaddles and use that

I find a walking foot works best for gauze also. You should try it
I haven’t seen striped gauze I love it
Double gauze
My daughter just hd a baby and she has muslin everything for him
It’s really nice for babies and children!
I have never seen muslin in color. Just white or beige
It’s cool right! Seems like a muslin/gauge mix
We call that double gauze or bubble gauze, not muslin.
We also call them double gauze or crinkle muslin
