In 2019 I had a massive occipital lobe stroke that horribly effected my vision I had made 3 quilts before the stroke hit. My vision is mostly out of focus but I think I could try this one thank you for explaining what you are doing instead of music thank you again
Fantastic video. You got right to the point without all the unnecessary extra chit-chat. The fabric choices are lovely, and the finished quilt is beautiful! Thank you ❤
I’ve done this before, too, and love it! Instead of stitching in the ditch, I like to use some of the decorative stitches on my sewing machine and sew on top of each seam. It makes it look like I worked so much harder on it!😉
@alandacraft im going to have to give that a try myself. I love my new machine and want to use it to it's fullest extent. And I believe using decorative stitches will make it sing
Simple and lovely! This is the same method I use for making charity lap quilts. One difference is that I find stitch in the ditch too frustrating to stay close to the seam, so I use a serpentine stitch (which I lengthen and widen a bit). The result is the same, but it doesn't matter if I stray from the seam line.
Thank you Pam 😊. I really must become more adventurous and try some other stitches. When I'm doing the tutorials I just seem to automatically go with the ditch stitching.
Thanks for showing this simple quilt. I love the blend of pastel pinks and blues together. This is a great beginner quilt or when you're short on time. If you're like me and have trouble staying "in the ditch" then stitch a ¼" either side of the seam. Use a variegated thread to add a little bling to the stitching. This is also the perfect quilt to use all of those fancy stitches you never use on your machine. Set them to a moderately large size and sew them down the center of your seam lines. You'll add interest to the quilt top and you're reinforcing the seams at the same time...great for kids quilts or those that will get heavy use and frequent washing.
I'm in love with this process!! Just an easier yet beautiful way especially for a baby or crib size quilt. I look forward to all of your videos as you do so well at explaning what & how you are doing something and you help us beginners to sew something awesome! Thanks so very much!
Hello from Georgia in the US. Just found you; so glad I did. I love this easy quilt; the fabric is so beautiful. I am a beginning quilter and I'm going to make this quilt of yours. Thank you; take care - I'll be back.
Perfect and then you can actually practice free motion inside these strips, skip stressing about binding and practice free motion. 😊🎉. Thank you for all your content and inspiration.
I made a quilt many years ago and didn't do the ditch stitch because i didn't know about it. I might have to go back and it now that i know about the ditch stitch😊
I love this method! It’s been many years since I made any kind of quilt at all, but I know I could do this because of your great video. Just one question, when stitching in the ditch on each row did you say you turn the quilt after finishing one row and go in the other direction for the next row? Thank you for the great tutorial 😊
I love your video clear concise, and you really give it that wonderful extra tip at the end where you say when you’re stitching in the ditch turn it around so it doesn’t punch up and you’re right it does if you don’t do that thanks❤😊
Thank you for sharing this video. Your quilt looks beautiful. I have been looking for a video. On how to sew on the batting. You made it looks so easy. I will give it a try.
This is a very cute quilt that can be made quickly. To make the quilting easier and quicker, instead of using in the ditch - try lengthening your zig zag stitch to make a curved line. It looks great and you don’t have to worry about staying in the ditch.
I like this quick and easy quilt technique! I am thinking that it may be nice to sample some of my decorative machine stitches for the in-the-ditch quilting. If I set the stitch longer it may work out nicely. Contrasting thread and a different decorative stitch for each channel. TFS!
Thank you 😊. The pattern is called Peony Princess but the selvedge has no brand name. We purchased it quite some time ago from our local Spotlight store here in OZ. Sorry I can't be more helpful
I forgot there is another technique that I saw somebody do where when you are sewing the top to the bottom and the batting if your seam allowance is half inch then you actually start perpendicular and sew in from the edge 1/2 inch at the start and then you do the same when you are finished The fabric does line up better when you are trying to close the opening
I haven't ever thought of that, but it sounds like a great idea, and I will certainly give it a go next time I make one of these quilts. Thank you for sharing that tip 😊
Thank you Petra 😊. We have a video on machine binding that might you might find helpful. Here is the link www.alandacraft.com/2015/09/16/how-to-machine-bind-a-quilt/
I m wondering if I could hand quilt instead of stitching in the ditch? Do you think it would " bunch up" , maybe use a small hoop? I've been wanting to attempt hand quilting, but it seems so daunting.
It probably would be okay, but I've never hand stitched a quilt, so I am not really in a position to give you advice on this. Lot's of people hand stitch their quilts. I'm sure there are videos on UA-cam that can help. When I don't want to stitch in the ditch I will sew a line a quarter of an inch on either side of the seam line and that looks fine.
I’m surprised you didn’t use the temporary adhesive on the final step instead of pinning through all of those layers And someone somewhere said you’re not supposed to back stitch when using the walking foot but I’ve done it so far so good 😂
I'm a bit of pin freak although I do like to use spray between the layers as well. I like to make sure the layers are not going to move much. Especially with these types of quilts. I'm not so concerned when I am doing a quilt with binding. I have also heard about not back stitching with a walking foot, oops 😂. But I've always done it.
@@alandacraft I am having issues quilting with my Juki, TL 18 which is bizarre because that’s the whole reason I got the machine and I’m wondering if the adhesive is causing the problems. Although I think using the ruler foot is a much better idea and then I have those nonstick needles.
It's called Peony Princess, but there is no brand name on the material. I got it at our local Spotlight store here in OZ. It doesn't look like it's available anymore although you may find some on ebay or etsy.

I'm glad you are enthusiastic to try this one.
I'm sure you will do fine. Good luck and enjoy the journey!
I've made many quilts without a pattern. It's actually my preferred method for making them.
mine too!
I love quilts without a pattern! Totally my style.,

@alandacraft im going to have to give that a try myself. I love my new machine and want to use it to it's fullest extent. And I believe using decorative stitches will make it sing

Same, or I do a straight stitch 1/8" or 1/4" on both sides of "the ditch".

Yes that's exactly what we did. We turn the quilt around on each row and that helps to stop the quilt from bunching up on one side.
